What The Celebrities Didn’t Expect To Learn On DWTS, What They’ve Taught The Pros, And More

George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet is back and this time he asks the couples what they didn’t expect to learn or know dancing a second time on Dancing With The Stars up to this point. He also asks the pros what their celebrities have taught them this season. Good questions!! He also gets their reactions on learning about next week’s dances.

Let’s start out with Cheryl and Emmitt! Emmitt says he didn’t know there would be so much “emotional charge” when one of the couples were eliminated. There is a “gut wrenching” feeling and he didn’t prepare for it. Cheryl says Emmitt has taught her about “life”, “growing” and “maturing”. For next weeks dances, they have to buckle down, tighten up, and just get better.

Apolo says (in an overwhelming way) he wasn’t expecting to know about “Karina Smirnoff” and how she makes you give it your all ….160%!!! Karina says Apolo has taught her to always have a positive outlook…even in the worst of conditions such as when they are in the elimination spot or if they have a fight. “It’s all good”! At the end, they get silly talking of next week’s dances, she has lots of really good ideas, and Karina calls him her “baby elephant”.

Val says Kelly has taught him composure, how to be a professional, to be honest, to have good timing, and how to carry yourself better. As for not know what she’d be in for, Kelly didn’t realize she’d love dancing again so much, the work, and being around Val for long hours and that they’d click. On their next dances, Val gets nervous when first learning what they have and the song, but, he believes in Kelly and they can do it.

Tony and Melissa! Tony can’t believe he and Melissa have made it this far. It’s been a “dream come true”. They have no idea what will happen for next week’s “Caveman Hustle”. On Melissa, Tony says she has this way of teaching him ‘to enjoy every second’, to ‘savor every moment’, and that ‘their families are the most important part’. On what she didn’t think she’d learn by dancing a second time, Melissa says she has learned to savor the experience more (the “small things”). They also didn’t expect to get this far. The eliminations have also been difficult.

For a media round-up on Derek and Shawn visit Pure Derek Hough as our Miss Heidi will have everything on them up as soon as she can.

So, here’s to next week, Everyone!!! Anything can happen! Are you ready? Being a huge Michael Jackson fan, I am going to love this upcoming week the most I think. 🙂

Saying Good-Bye To Kirstie Alley And Gilles Marini On Dancing With The Stars (Interviews)

Has there ever been two more gracious, classy exits on Dancing With The Stars than with Kirstie Alley and Gilles Marini? There have been many. I know. But, wow, Gilles really touched on me last night when he thanked not only the show, but, his wife and then there were the kind words he said about Peta too. This is from the ET Online interview for an example….

“This woman was in my life 24/7 and she never gave up anything, and she always wanted me to look amazing and she pushed me to places that I never knew I would go when it comes down to these performances,” he retold ET of his talk with his partner.

“I felt safe at all times,” he praised. “I was always worried because this is my personality [and] I wanted to do so much more, but I always felt safe with her. I had the best time.”

Another thing I loved about Gilles was his love for this Country and being a new citizen! He made a statement through out the season to never take our freedoms for granted.

Kirstie!! Once again (as she did before in the first season she danced), she reminded me of how important it is to stay positive, not to take life so seriously, and to LAUGH!! She also reminded me that growing old doesn’t have to be and that we can dance until we die. I will forever be a fan of this woman and her beautiful, young, passionate, energetic, fun spirit and I hope we see her entertaining the world forever.

With all that said, here are their interviews after they were eliminated last night. Lots of laughs and some tears too…

Stay tuned! We’ll add their Good Morning America interview as soon as we can!

UPDATE: And HERE is their Good Morning America interview. It’s ‘too early in the morning’ for them, but, note how George tries to ask Maks about his movie career, but, Maks doesn’t reveal anything except to say he’s looking forward to the opportunities.

DWTS All Stars, Week 8 – Dancing by the Numbers

If you want to look at the numbers from last week before they added in two more dances, take a look at DBTN Week 7.

I’m not even going to discuss the judging tonight – it was awful from the opening dance all the way to the end. Len and his horrible comment to Shawn – I think maybe he heard Derek say “f#$k you” with his choreo or something.  People who got perfect scores shouldn’t have while others were excessively punished.  I feel bad for Apolo’s trio going after Shawn cuz he seemed pretty tame after.  I love Emmitt, but a 30 on his trio?? No way. Len’s treatment of Gilles (aka Good) is inexplicable.  And that V. Waltz from Kelly?? WHAT?? Crack is wack, ya’ll. Ridiculous. Oh, look, I talked all about the judging after I said I wouldn’t. 🙂   That’s cuz it’s taking the enjoyment out of the show for me.  Anyway, on with the show:

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Bye Bye Kirstie. I don’t think there’s any way she beats that spread. She was in the bottom two previously, when the spread was much smaller.  Since it’s a double elimination, she needs TWO of the following to happen, to avoid going home:

–          Kirstie needs 19,550 more votes per million votes cast than Apolo, OR;

–          Kirstie needs 20,320 more votes per million votes cast than Gilles, OR;

–          Kirstie needs 21,100 more votes per million votes cast than Emmitt or Kelly, OR;

–          Kirstie needs 22,670 more votes per million votes cast than Shawn, OR;

–          Kirstie needs 31,250 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa.

I’m sorry, Kirstie fans. I do wish I could say I thought she was staying. Unfortunately, I think she’s the only sure thing of the night. I would much rather Gilles and Kelly leave before her, but I don’t see that happening. Read more..

PureDWTS 15 Week 8 – The Couples Reactions After Monday Night’s Dance (Interviews)

What a fun night, but, I am NOT looking forward to TWO eliminations tonight…especially if there is a “surprise” elimination, but, more on that in depth later with Heidi in her new Number’s Post. For now, let’s see what the couples had to say on their dances last night with On The Red Carpet.

First up, Tony and Melissa. Their big smiles say it all. Tony says last night was “insane”. Melissa’s goal was just to soak it all up and have the time of her life. Tony praises how hard Melissa has worked. He also speaks of how he doesn’t like to break the rules. The energy with the Veterans at the show helped them to fly.

Emmitt was so honored to dance with two top notch dancers in Kym and Cheryl. He talks of the Veterans and what the show is all about. The Veterans are the true role models so they can be there to entertain. Cheryl says Emmitt worked so hard. Emmitt says he loved how Kym and Cheryl showcased him and who he is. If they get to come back, they will keep working hard.

Kirstie says she’s a “crazy optimist”. At the same time, she’s learned you “have to move on” when you have to. Maks talks of how he let Kirstie decide on the choreography with the Trio dance with Tristan. A little girl named “Tori” joins them for the interview and rates them with a “10”. So cute.

Karina talks of her injuries this past week, but, she’s much better and a “warrior”. If they make it to next week for Michael Jackson’s “Bad” Tribute, they have ideas that are “beyond spectacular”. Apolo says they will “freeze” the dance floor. Karina loves Apolo’s “Grease” look (so, did I! 😀 ).

DWTS 15, Week 8 – Power Rankings

Not a whole lot to say about tonight, other than that everything felt incredibly frantic as they rush, rush, rushed to fit 14 routines into 2 hours (which was no bueno, considering the ballroom round was drastically cut short and the danced seemed to be over before they even started), and that the judges did their usual wacky scoring (which really means nothing, considering how close the margins are).  Literally, guys, this is an even bigger battle of the fanbases this time, as there are even MORE points and even SMALLER margins than the week Sabrina got sent packing.  So if somebody’s not getting the votes – methinks they’re pretty much doomed.

1.) Shawn & Derek – They’ve got the 2nd highest point total from the past two weeks, and in perhaps an even bigger advantage – a bunch of pissed off fans.  Ok, so maybe there wasn’t a ton of samba in their trio – I still think there was enough there to warrant at least an 8, and it was still a wildly entertaining routine that actually evoked more of the excitment of a pro dance to me than just a regular dance with a celeb.  The way Len was acting, it was as if Derek & Mark had walked center stage and defecated or something…while Shawn watched.  And the whole “If you go home tomorrow night, don’t blame me, blame them!” comment? Was that REALLY necessary? Just felt like a low blow and not any sort of constructive criticism.  I really think Derek probably knew they were taking a risk and choreographed more of a crowd/audience-pleasing routine than a judge-pleasing routine, intentionally – it was a calculated risk, maybe to jump-start the fans into voting.  But I don’t think he was expecting Len to take it so personally.  As for their Viennese waltz – despite it being awfully short, I thought it was quite pretty and very fluid, and Shawn had some butter-smooth turns and showed a lot of emotion.  I think they’re probably the safest from the double elim tomorrow…seems like they’re getting a lot of votes and still pretty decent scores, in the great scheme of things.

2.) Emmitt & Cheryl – I find myself drawing a bit of a blank on his Viennese waltz, despite the fact that I have several notes written about it – “smooth & fluid, didn’t see the alleged mistake, not very high level of difficulty”.  I daresay that it probably left me lukewarm: no big problems, and pleasant to watch, but nothing particularly impactful or impressive.  Just as I said last week, I think the biggest problem I have with Emmitt at this point is just that he seems to have plateaued in terms of difficulty, and Cheryl really isn’t pushing him as hard as she should choreographically at this phase of the competition.  Most of the other couples are pulling out all the stops – but Emmitt & Cheryl seem to be sticking primarily to the “Do easy choreo and just charm everyone’s pants off!” method.  Their trio – ok, very cute, and I definitely enjoyed it more than I did Gilles’ trio….but 30? Really? I saw an awful lot of backleading & stationary ass-shaking going on…I think many other couples had much more difficult steps in their dances, and they did them with much more impressive execution.  I guess the judges were maybe judging more on entertainment value than level of difficulty and content (unless your name is Shawn, in which case it’s ALL about content).  I guess I’ve just kind of given up on trying to understand the judges’ motives at this point 😛 Regardless, I think he’s likely safe tomorrow, but things could get dicey next week… Read more..

Emmitt Smith On Dancing With The Stars: “The quality of the show has elevated” (Videos)

Emmitt Smith is so humble and a class act as always. In this new interview wth KTLA, he relates football with Dancing With The Stars. He “recognizes” the competition and tries to challenge himself every week (just like when he played football)…but, not without “soreness” including his toe (lol). The crew at KTLA try to break down the competition by saying Shawn and Gilles are his biggest, but, Emmitt won’t have it. He says THEY (his cast mates) ARE ALL of his competition and that they are all so good. He talks on Cheryl and how much their relationship has grown too. Great interview and one of my favorites now of the season. See why…. Read more..

DWTS Season 15 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 8: Are they wrong or right?

The odds makers at Sports Bovada are convinced Kristie Alley is going home from Dancing With The Stars …and more than ever this upcoming week. Don’t worry though! They’ve been wrong in the past with 100/1 odds, but, unfortunately, they’ve also been right. They also have more faith in Gilles Marini and Emmitt Smith than many fans do.

Shawn Johnson 5/7
Emmitt Smith 7/2
Gilles Marini 11/2
Apolo Anton Ohno 9/1
Kelly Monaco 9/1
Melissa Rycroft 40/1
Kirstie Alley 100/1

Last week’s Las Vegas Odds going into Week 7 to compare:

Shawn Johnson 10/11
Emmitt Smith 13/4
Gilles Marini 7/2
Apolo Anton Ohno 9/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 40/1
Kirstie Alley 66/1

I don’t know what to think, but, I’m pretty sold on the idea that “fan base” is going to determine who wins this competition this time especially after Sabrina was eliminated. If that’s the case, I think Kelly and Melissa (even though I like them) are history this upcoming week….or possibly, and hopefully, my dream elimination GILLES!!! I think Shawn should be first, Apolo should be second, Emmitt should be third, and Kirstie should be fourth.

Let’s see what my collaborators think and be sure you let us know in comments too….

Courtney: At this point, I’m just shrugging & shaking my head when it comes to these odds, because it just seems to me like these oddsmakers are chucking darts at a dartboard to determine their odds.  😛 It still baffles me that they’re so convinced that Emmitt & Gilles have chances that good – Emmitt may have the fanbase, but the judges have shown that they’re not afraid to drop the hammer if his dancing’s not up to snuff; and Gilles may be getting the scores, but now I’m not convinced that he’s getting the votes…we’ve seen very few Gilles trolls leaping to his defense here this season, and I’ve had several fans (some from Gilles’ native France, even) reach out to me on Twitter to tell me just how much they can’t stand his behavior this season.  Literally, I’m baffled as to who is actually voting for Gilles…and who knows, maybe he was the other half of the bottom 2 with Sabrina a few weeks back.  I’m just getting the gut feeling that his number could be up this week, from what I’ve been hearing from fans and from behind the scenes. Or it could be wishful thinking 😛 Unfortunately for Kirstie, I’m also getting the feeling she could be leaving us this week – she’s got some tough dances and some not-so-stellar scores from last week to contend with, and she’s still the only one left that we know for sure has been in the bottom 2 before.  As for Apolo – I’m just not sure what to think.  I go back and forth between thinking he’s barely hanging on by a thread, to thinking he’s so safe that the judges feel the need to handicap him a bit.  Kelly & Melissa? Huge question marks for me.  I’m inclined to think that Kelly is getting more votes than Melissa, but I’m also hearing that the fauxmance is wearing thin on some fans and that Melissa may have a bigger fanbase than we think, due to her show on CMT.  Guess we’ll have a better picture after the axe drops twice on Tuesday…

Heidi: I think if they switch Gilles and Apolo they might have it about right – in terms of “top 3”, not necessarily the actual order.  I think Emmitt is going to blow people’s minds this week and get back in the game. At least for his Trio – he has Kym Johnson working with him who I’m giving a lot of credit to – she can choreograph some great stuff for the big guys. Will it be enough to get him to the final three? Well, we are awfully close.  Once you switch Gilles and Apolo – well, I think that’s a rough approximation of who’s ranked where. If they continue to treat Apolo like a second class citizen, he could be in trouble. I’m like Courtney on Apolo at this point – one minute I think he’s going to win it all and the next I think the judges are going to nitpick him right out of the game.  I WISH we could see the backside of Gilles this week, but I kinda doubt it. I do wish Kirstie could stay over him, but I fear her time is running out. But Kirstie and Melissa? I think the odds dudes might have that one wrong. I LOVE Melissa and would love to see her in the final three – but it seems a bit clear that she’s getting some pimpage from the judges, and she’s apparently last in the running order this week which, while not a huge deal any more, is a sign of them giving her some love. I think she’ll survive this week, thanks to the scores, but I’m afraid she won’t make it to the end. Unless the judges get REALLY serious.  Of course, the odds makers aren’t really saying who is going to leave next, they are giving odds to win it all – so I guess in that respect they’re more right than wrong. Although I don’t really know which of the people who I think are going to be top three is actually going to win. Which is kind of a nice change of pace. 🙂

Veteran’s Day Homage, Kylie Minogue, Ne-Yo, And More On Dancing With The Stars

Oh, I am one happy camper as one of my favorite female artists, Kylie Minogue, is set to perform on Tuesday night’s Dancing With The Stars Results show. As previously reported, R & B singer Ne-Yo will also be performing. Below are more details on both nights of Dancing With The Stars Week 8 from ABC MediaNet. Get ready, it’s going to be a special week as the show is also paying tribute to our Veterans.

“Episode 1508 & 1508A” – Monday night’s performance show on “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” will include two rounds of competition for the seven remaining couples, a Ballroom and Latin Trio round. In honor of Veterans Day, the first round will feature performances to songs that pay homage to servicemen and women. During the Latin Trio round, each couple will be joined by an eliminated pro or Troupe dancer, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The audience will also be joined by members of several branches of the Armed Forces, including two former Marines, William Franco Vasquez and Nick Jones Jr., who will be special guests on an episode of ABC’s hit comedy “The Middle” on November 14.

“Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars the Results Show” will feature outstanding musical performances from Kylie Minogue and Ne-Yo, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET). Global pop icon Minogue will perform “Locomotion” alongside the renowned “DWTS” band, accompanied by pro dancers Kym Johnson and Tristan MacManus. She has just released her latest album, “The Abbey Road Sessions,” which debuted at No. 2 in the UK. The album, which was recorded in London’s legendary Abby Road Studios with Minogue’s band and a full orchestra, features 16 classic tracks, all reworked. Also taking the stage is three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Ne-Yo, who will perform his current hit single, “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself),” from his newest album, “R.E.D,” in stores now. “R.E.D,” an acronym for Realizing Every Dream, is Ne-Yo’s fifth studio album, through which he continues to embrace dance-pop while maintaining his connection to R&B. Before two couples are eliminated from the show, there will also be a special performance from pro dancers Anna Trebunskaya and Valentin Chmerkovisky, alongside special guests Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild, principal dancers with the New York Ballet.

The 4th “Macy’s Stars of Dance” performance of the season comes from the amazing cast of Disney’s smash new Broadway musical, “Newsies,” which is breaking box office records and winning Tony Awards for the best songs and best dancing on Broadway. Eighteen of some of the most talented performers audiences have ever seen will be joining the ballroom on Tuesday night, performing the thrilling “Seize the Day” in yet another must-see “Macy’s Stars of Dance” performance.

DWTS All Stars, Week 8 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Wild and crazy week ahead!!  Karina’s hurt now, according to her facebook, Derek’s back, it’s a double elimination week and I’ve got random gossip that will have a whole bunch of people probably pissed off before I’m done. 🙂  Yay!!

But first!!  Who’s dancing what??

ETA1: This may surprise some of you, but apparently Sasha was Karina’s #1 choice for their 3rd trio member – she thinks he’s a great dancer & athlete and actually has Apolo watch videos of Sasha dancing in order to understand technique.  She’s even letting him have input on the choreography of their jive, so she must see some sort of advantage in him.  Fingers crossed! -Court-

ETA2: I think we’re a bit unsure about Gilles song – we know they’re using it, but it could be someone else’s song.  We’re pretty sure it’s Gilles. Speaking of Gilles…the Douche lord strikes again. He apparently  claims that “The Hispanic community is going to love my song!” because it’s sung by “The greatest salsa singer of all-time!” He also googled salsa and was explaining to Peta that “since there are no rules in salsa, the judges can’t judge me on my weird hands”.  Apparently Peta just nodded her head and said “Mmmhmmm” and then proceeded to chug some bleach. That part may have been Courtney’s wishful thinking. 🙂  Supposedly they also were asking him how he was faring with the trio dance, since he’d never done it before, and he kept insisting “Oh, I’ve had a threesome before.” Perv.  The very worst thing about Gilles and what makes him so annoying is that he thinks he’s funny and charming and sexy, when he’s really just a douche lord. I think he has the original douche lord (Scott Disick) beat by a mile.

ETA3: Geez, Kelly’s song doesn’t play into the faux-mance AT ALL (cue end sarcasm).  I wonder how much drooling all over each other they will do this week – while Val is in uniform and there’s fog (just a guess, not intel).  And OMG – Gilles referenced Top Gun in one of his tweets this morning.  Dude, youse getting way to easy to predict. Bad sign. He says it’s going to be a “great homage” to all the Veterans.  I guess that means we were right about his quickstep song.   Hint: Both of Melissa’s songs, one of Gilles songs, one of Kirstie’s and one of Emmitt’s  have all been used on the show before – for a combined total of 7 other times. Gilles’ song “Danger Zone” was Kurt & Anna’s jive in season 11. A virtual pat on the back who can guess the song that Melissa is dancing to when I say….Marie Osmond also danced to it. 🙂

ETA4: Okay, it appears we mixed a couple things up. Kelly is doing Viennese Waltz, not plain waltz and Emmitt is the one with Love Letters. Courtney told me to blame her. 🙂 But seriously, we often know the songs but sometimes have to guess at who has what. And what dance style they put with a given song. Yes, there are apparently FOUR V. Waltzs. We’ve heard that Gilles is boring as hell and that his trio is going, AGAIN, for the trashy. We’ve also heard that Emmitt’s trio is hilarious and fun, full of spins and tricks (and he’s managing to LEAD both ladies) – and he’ll likely upstage Gilles. Hope that’s not wishful thinking on all our parts. 🙂  Laila gets the virtual high 5 for guessing Melissa’s song FIRST. 🙂

ETA5: So, apparently Kelly’s Trio is cute, but Apolo’s has better choreo and crazy tricks. Whereas Shawn and Derek’s Trio is “trick free” this week, although the choreo might still give them trouble with Len – which is a surprise to exactly NO ONE, I suppose, after hearing the song. We’re GUESSING the “surprise” Shirley alluded to on Facebook might be the actual artist performing their song.  We don’t actually know this, we’re just guessing. I reiterate again *guessing* – just so we’re clear. 🙂  As a teaser for later, I will tell you that Courtney is “shocked and dismayed” by the song they gave to Kirstie for her Trio. BTW, I put in a “read more” tag cuz this post is getting WAY too long, since I added the picture of my future former husband. 😉

ETA6: So the douche lord is going 5th. For those of you obsessed with the running order, that’s really not so good when everyone is doing two dances. Kinda middle of the pack. NOT THAT IT MATTERS ANYWAY at this point in the season.  Just sayin’. Tired of saying that. People are either voting for a given couple now or they aren’t.

ETA7: I’ve seen claims that Kirstie is going third, which would automatically put Shawn first. Any links??

DWTS Season 15, Week 7 – Dancing by the Numbers

As everyone knows by now, no one went home this week. But in case you want to know how the judges scores are going to affect who ultimately goes home, I thought I would run the numbers for the week. After the Week 8 dances, I’ll run the numbers again and you can compare.

Here are the Week 7 scores and percentages:

As you can see, Melissa appears to be safely at the top of the leader board. So was Sabrina. The difference this week is that there is a MUCH larger spread between the top and the bottom. Unfortunately for Melissa (and others) there are two more dance scores to be added to each celeb before anyone is eliminated, which will tighten the margins and make it easier for someone to go home.  When Sabrina went home, there was only 6.5 points between the top and the bottom. Right now there are 10 points between Kirstie and Melissa – but that is likely to change.

I think it likely that Shawn and Apolo are safe – of course we can’t be sure, but that’s what my instincts are saying. I’m also inclined to believe that Emmitt is safe. But, this is where predicting who goes home gets extremely difficult…almost impossible…to call.

Looking at the list of the celebrities that are left, I’m inclined to think that Melissa is the one in most danger when you aren’t looking at the scores and the margins. Just looking at the list, she seems (all other things being equal) like the one most likely to get the boot. But she’s at the top of the leader board. So, what would it take for her to actually leave??  ALL of the following would have to happen for Melissa to be eliminated:

–          Kirstie would have to get 45,500 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

–          Apolo would have to get 24,800 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

–          Gilles would have to get 22,800 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

–          Emmitt would have to get 18,600 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

–          Kelly would have to get 12,400 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

–          Shawn would have to get 4,200 more votes per million votes cast.
