PureDWTS Season 22 Week 2 Media And Interviews After Dance Night

My, where do we start today? First off, can I say just a few words on Geraldo? I loved how he just laughed at himself and had a great time with his last dance. I loved his message to “get off the couch” and dance no matter what age you are or what injuries and surgeries you’ve had. Those are great words to live by and always remember. Thank you to Geraldo for dancing and bringing back our sweet Edyta Sliwinksa as well to the ballroom. More with Geraldo and Edyta below.

Ok, the scores from the official site….

Paige VanZant & Mark Ballas (sub Alan Bersten) (Salsa) 8-8-8 for a Total of 24
Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold (Salsa) 8-8-8 for a Total of 24
Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe (Samba) 7-7-7 for a Total of 21
Ginger Zee & Valentin Chmerkovskiy (Samba) 7-7-7 for a Total of 21
Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd (Rumba) 7-6-7 for a Total of 20
Von Miller & Witney Carson (Cha Cha) 7-6-7 for a Total of 20
Doug Flutie & Karina Smirnoff (Paso Doblé) 7-6-7 for a Total of 20
Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess (Rumba) 6-6-7 for a Total of 19
Kim Fields & Sasha Farber (Salsa) 7-6-6 for a Total of 19
Mischa Barton & Artem Chigvintsev (Cha Cha) 5-5-5 for a Total of 15
Geraldo Rivera & Edyta Sliwinska (Salsa) 5-4-4 for a Total of 13

And now for some Media. First off, don’t miss seeing ABC7 for some beautiful photos. Afterwards, see Stormy’s Tumbler page for all the DWTS All Access coverage. People talked with some of the contestants here and here (be watching those links as they may post more). Next, read Glamour for their complete report from the show. I loved what Tony Dovolani said on Geraldo.

Geraldo Rivera might have been in the top five of the worst contestants to ever compete on DWTS, but he was also one of the most beloved cast members. “I really enjoyed Geraldo,” said Tony Dovolani backstage. “He’s so friendly. He knew all of us, [all of] our names. He knew everything about us!” Echoed Sharna Burgess: “He’s so much fun, so down to earth, so sweet to everybody. It’s going to be a shame to see someone leave that really wants to be here.”

And let’s hope and pray Mark Ballas is going to be ok and bounce back….

Although UFC fighter Paige VanZant is tied for first place, it was a bittersweet victory following Mark Ballas’ back injury. “He’s going to have some more tests tomorrow,” revealed Paige. “It’s so up in the air. I didn’t find out I was doing the dance with Alan until two hours before the show.” Because Mark had to bow out, Paige had to quickly learn an alternate ending with new partner, Alan Bersten. “Mark [and I] had one trick where I kind of lift him [because] Mark’s a little closer to my size. Alan’s much bigger, [so] it just wouldn’t have worked. I didn’t even want to chance it.”

Dancing with the Stars Season 22, Week 2 – Live Blog!! (Spoilers)

Okay, what I’m going to be looking for this week is Jodie and Ginger – will their pros do a better job for them this week in terms of choreo and content? I’m also looking for that typical fall from grace that often happens in week 2 when there is less time to rehearse – who will fall victim to this pseudo curse? 🙂

I suppose that was a Mandy Moore special? Tiny bit better than anything she’s done recently.

WTF Geraldo??

Oh dear, Jodie. Deep breath. It’s only week 2 and you have a shot. Come on Keo, show us what you’re made of.

Okay, I liked Jodie – better choreo this week but she’s moving a little delicately at times. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Week 2 Doug Flutie And Geraldo Rivera Not Going Out Without A Fight

Geraldo Rivera and Doug Flutie may have been in the bottom half of the leader board on Dancing With The Stars week one, but, neither of them are going out tonight without a fight. Below is more from ABC.

Geraldo Rivera received the lowest score on last week’s premiere. His goal for Monday night is to advance and last longer than another journalist who competed on the show a decade ago.

“I would be extremely disappointed that I didn’t beat Tucker Carlson, who went home in the first week,” Rivera tells ABC Radio. “I’d be extremely disappointed. But, you know, someone’s gotta go. But we’re going to really try.”

Former football star Doug Flutie was also in the bottom half of the leader board last week, but his pro partner, Karina Smirnoff, is maintaining a positive attitude.

“We’re not going to concentrate on the scores, we’re going to concentrate on the fact that we had the whole ballroom screaming ‘Flutie,'” she explained. “We need to come back and hit it out of the ballpark week two.”

See ABC to read more.

ETA: To read Karina’s Smirnoff’s new blog, visit People. Below is a take on her dance tonight with partner Doug Flutie. Note how their dance is dedicated to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.

It’s Latin night and we’re doing the a paso doble, which is a fighting dance. I’d say he’s just identifying with it because it’s such a strong dance, but it’s really in general that he’s becoming a better and better dancer.

Doug was upset about the scores last week, but he’s looking at each week as a clean slate, and I really do think we can go out there and improve our standing significantly.

Doug is also excited to do this routine tonight in honor of his family. He’s dedicating our paso doble to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. Doug loves his family and that passion is bringing an extra special element to our performance.

Doug spent his entire NFL career fighting to prove himself, and now he’s ready to go out there and do the same thing on the dance floor.

More at People.

Geraldo Rivera And Edyta Sliwinksa Talk to KTLA About Their Last Dance, Their New Dance, And More

Geraldo Rivera And Edyta Sliwinksa talked to KTLA today. Geraldo says he’s been through a lot (like reporting from Afghanistan and Iraq, had bombs explode around him, etc.), but, nothing quite prepared him for taking that first step on Dancing With The Stars last Monday. They also talk on their rehearsals and their new dance. You can also see some shots of them in rehearsals. I love Geraldo’s attitude and Edyta looks stunning. Thanks to @Idolxfactor1 for recording.

WANYA MORRIS 943
KIM FIELDS 2049
DOUG FLUTIE 2830
GERALDO RIVERA 3967
MARLA MAPLES 4030

Below are last weeks odds:

JODIE SWEETIN 410
ANTONIO BROWN 550
PAIGE VANZANT 560
GINGER ZEE 570
NYLE DIMARCO 645
WANYA MORRIS 715
MISCHA BARTON 834
VON MILLER 889
KIM FIELDS 1230
DOUG FLUTIE 1600
MARLA MAPLES 2700
GERALDO RIVERA 3962

Vogue: I’m really disagreeing with the odds makers at BM this week. Why is Marla last? I fear it’s because some can’t get past that she was once Donald Trump’s wife which is sad. I was also surprised to see Kim so low as well. She and Sasha are so fun and they came out like firecrackers for their first dance. I would think both of them would be in the middle of the pack somewhere. Also, Jodi Sweetin is too high and Wanya is wayyyyy too low. Nyle should be more at the top as well. And what about Mischa? She should be at the bottom. What a goofy week in odds. Be sure to tell us what you think in comments. Heidi and Court what do you think?

Courtney: Whatever the oddsmakers are on – I want some 😛 It’s almost as if they’re a week behind – as if these odds are based more on the preseason hype we heard and not what we actually saw on Monday night.  Heck, it almost seems like they were lurking here – several of us were talking about both Marla & Geraldo as early outs, and how we thought Antonio was a lock for the finale.  Then Monday happened, and things kinda got shaken up – right now, rather than seeing a clear front-runner or a clear order, I’m more seeing tiers of skill/fanbase. I would argue that, based on Monday’s show, Wanya & Nyle should be about neck-and-neck for the top spot.  The next tier would be some combination of Ginger, Antonio, & Von – not sure what order I’d really put them in; right below them should be Paige, Jodie, & Kim (not necessarily in that order); Marla & Doug slightly below that (again, not sure who I’d put higher); and then Mischa & Geraldo in the basement.  I fully expect this could change come Monday, as I think Antonio could potentially surge, Ginger will likely get lavished with praise again, and Wanya and/or Nyle could get nitpicked a bit. Part of me kinda hopes it’s Mischa going home instead of Geraldo, because I’m getting the impression more and more that the former is not having much fun and at least the latter seems to be enjoying himself.

Heidi: As per usual, they have things all screwed up. It does make me wonder though…are they getting their odds based on actual betting? Because, when you look at their odds that way it puts a new spin on things.  Only not really, because you have the Steeler and the MMA girl at the top and there’s tons of sports betting all the time so to people who gamble, those two are really familiar.  🙂 It does make the rest of their lineup interesting. Sort of. You would think, though, that they would TRY to inject some reality into their odds because they’re likely going to get hosed on finale night unless Antonio does pull out a win – and that is NOT a sure thing anymore. I have to agree with Courtney’s tiers – ole Antonio has some serious competition from Wanya and Nyle and some of the other competitors are no slouches either. We’ll know more after this week, since they have far less time to prepare – but if  Sharna and Val don’t step up the choreo, they could find themselves seriously outclassed. And, therefore, on the losing end of this season.
