Judge Bruno Tonioli Assesses And Advises The Final 5 On Dancing With The Stars

USA Today has a new interview up with Dancing With The Stars judge Bruno Tonioli. He discusses the Final 5’s weaknesses and strengths. He also gives each couple some advice which you can read below. See if you agree?? I think he pretty much nails it.

For Ingo….

tighten up. Don’t make any mistakes. Really smooth out the Latin.”

For Jacoby….

Bruno’s advice: “He has to clean up the footwork and make it much more exact, because he has the performance value and energy” to go all the way. Bruno notes that past football stars have done well, including Emmitt Smith, who was crowned DWTS champ in 2006, and Hines Ward, who won in 2011. “The sportsmen, in a way, they comes to the final and they deliver in an unexpected turn. I think the margin is going to be very, very small whoever gets to the finals. It often comes down to the freestyle dance. Jacoby has that explosive energy that could bring the house down.”

For Aly….

Bruno’s advice: “Add the softness to the strength.”

For Zendaya…..

Bruno’s advice: “If she took three or four ballet classes, she would learn to sustain the long times. I think that’s what, if anything, she needs to work on: elongating the lines in the slow, lyrical dances.”

For Kellie….

Bruno’s advice: “Kellie, throw yourself into it with gay abandon!” He adds, “She has to believe in herself. Don’t show doubt in her face. Ever. At all.”

To read this interview in full, see USA Today. It’s a good one.

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 9 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Well, are we lacking a twitter vote this week? Praise the lord. But I’m sure a new gimmick will be announced in 5…4…3…

So it seems we are missing Jacoby’s first dance…could he be doing the same dance as Kellie for the third week in a row and be doing Argentine Tango?? And why are they the only ones mimicking each other in dances at this late stage?? Anyway, where’s Courtney? She’s the expert in who has what dances left. I *think* Jacoby has AT, Contemporary, Tango and Samba of the dances that have been danced this season. No one has done Waltz – fine by me. I think we only need Viennese Waltz. If they’re looking to get rid of him, he’s likely doing AT. If it’s Ingo headed out the door, he probably has Samba.

In no particular order….
ETA: Great. Kellie going first. That’s a great sign. Only not really.

Kellie and Derek
Dancing 1st
Dance 1: Argentine Tango
Dance 2: Flamenco

The Odds Makers Switch DWTS Jacoby Jones And Aly Raisman, New Odds For Week 9

“Success is not measured by what you accomplish but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.” ~Orison Swett Mardenon on beating the odds

Sports Bovada has posted their new odds for Dancing With The Stars. What do the odds makers think this week? Well, take a look below. Note: for the first time this season, they have placed Jacoby behind Aly. I don’t agree and I hope Jacoby makes a strong showing this week. I still think he is just as much of a force in this competition as Kellie and Zendaya? Don’t get me wrong, I like Aly as a person, but, why is Aly so over-rated and will the judges continue to overlook her and Zendaya’s faults while crucifying Kellie’s, Jacoby’s, and Ingo’s? Sad, and I’m not sure I’m ready for another week of this? ❓ 😕

So, below are the new odds:

Zendaya Coleman 2/3
Kellie Pickler 13/10
Aly Raisman 12/1
Jacoby Jones 18/1
Ingo Rademacher 150/1

Here are last week’s Las Vegas Odds to compare.

Zendaya Coleman 10/11
Kellie Pickler 1/1
Jacoby Jones 10/1
Aly Raisman 12/1
Ingo Rademacher 100/1
Sean Lowe 100/1

Let’s see what Miss Heidi and Court think. Be sure you let us know your thoughts and predictions too in the comments section.

Courtney: *shrug* Maybe it’s the fact that Andy is gone, maybe it’s the fact that voting (either to keep someone in the competition, or in the various Twitter contests) seems to be an exercise in futility, but I just find myself altogether apathetic about the odds (and really, the show in general) now.  It doesn’t seem to matter how well any of the couples dance anymore – the praise/ridicule they get will have little to do with how they actually dance, and at the end of the day, the person that TPTB have a vested interest in winning, will win…and right now, it seems pretty clear to me that that’s Zendaya.  And oddly enough, I’m beginning to wonder if they’re setting it up to be a close finish between Zendaya and Aly as the last two standing – double-whammy with the youngin’s, maybe? Lord knows…I just find myself puzzled by the gushing over Aly, considering that Kellie & Jacoby have far bigger personalities and Aly tends to come across rather bland.  As for Kellie & Jacoby – if the Zendaya & Aly lovefest continues, I worry that they may not be able to hope for any better than 3rd & 4th place, respectively.  I think Jacoby may unfortunately get picked apart for subpar technique, and Kellie may be collateral damage as a result of Len’s “there wasn’t enough content!” tirades.  Ingo? He’ll be gone this week, unless they really lay into Jacoby…which is possible.  I’m hoping that TPTB realize that they’re going to be better off having a good entertainer (Jacoby) in the finale, than another ABC family member who’s pretty marginal (Ingo).  But as I said, I’m fully preparing myself to be let down by the finale, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost a fun contestant like Jacoby to make room for another ABC pimpee like Ingo.  Just…blah.

Heidi: Read Derek’s blog and tell me what you think of what he says Len said to him when he and Kellie were in jeopardy. It does NOT give me faith that this ending won’t be totally manipulated, as opposed to just a bit manipulated as it’s been in the past.  It would be funny if Zendaya and Aly split the vote, though, and either Kellie or Jacoby slipped in there. I just don’t get the Aly love fest either. I don’t think she touches either Kellie or Zendaya in talent nor Jacoby in FUN.  The fact that I can barely bring myself to think about The Cheesecake should tell you how I feel about this season right now.  They just have it SO set up to pimp Zendaya every step of the way. On Facebook, Kellie is wondering why she and Derek haven’t gotten an encore yet – good f*%king question, Kel.  Aly’s had two and Zendaya’s had 2 or 3- if you count Team Paso. If that doesn’t tell you about the outcome of this show, nothing does.  Lots of visual and audible cues that Zendaya and Aly are supposed to be winners. Some visual cues that Kellie is a winner, but then they hide her completely for a results show and then smack the crap out of Derek the week – giving the audience the BIG cue that Derek’s doing it wrong. Gotcha ABC. Congratulations, you’ve completely shredded ANY faith I had in you NOT fixing the actual outcome. I’ve been backing you up for years, saying you don’t care who wins. Guess Disney got you this season, eh??

Past Pros Returning For 300th Episode Of Dancing With The Stars, The Wanted And Avril Lavigne To Perform

Get ready for the 300th episode of Dancing With The Stars on this coming Tuesday night! The Wanted and Avril Lavigne are set to perform. There will also be a “spectacular opening number” choreographed by Jason Gilkison with 22 pros and returning favorites, including Chelsie Hightower, Dmitry Chaplin, Louis Van Amstel and Anna Trebunskaya (Does anyone know why Maks has been excluded? Does he have a previous engagement?). Below are more details from ABC MediaNet including details for Monday night’s dances as well.

“Episode 1609 & 1609A” – Five remaining couples take to the ballroom floor during the Semi-Finals on MONDAY, MAY 13 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). Each couple perform two routines, inching their way one step closer to the coveted mirror ball trophy. Last week viewers were asked to vote via twitter on a new style of dance for each couple to perform; this week the couples perform their chosen style, including the Flamenco, Charleston, Afro Jazz, Lindy Hop and Hip Hop. Each couple will also be challenged to take on a ballroom or Latin style dance they have yet to perform this season.

On TUESDAY, MAY 14, “Dancing with the Stars” celebrates its 300th episode (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature music by The Wanted, who will perform their hit, “Fill A Heart,” and Avril Lavigne will perform her new single, “Here’s to Never Growing Up.” The 300th show celebration will feature a spectacular opening number choreographed by Jason Gilkison with 22 pro and returning favorites, including Chelsie Hightower, Dmitry Chaplin, Louis VanAmstel and Anna Trebunskaya. In addition, “AT&T Spotlight Performance” returns for its final installment of the season featuring Sophia Lucia, an incredible 10-year-old dancer who recently set the Guinness World Record for consecutive pirouettes. One couple will be eliminated at the end of the night.

PureDWTS Season 16 Week 8 Interviews After The Elimination, Dances Revealed For Week 9

So, let’s go straight to the On The Red Carpet interviews to see the couples reactions to last night’s elimination and see what they have to say about next week’s dances. First, who needs a repeat of this phenomenal and unforgettable moment on Dancing With The Stars last night? Please, nominate this dance for an EMMY PTB!! While watching this last night, all I could think about was Michael Jackson and how he was trying to defy gravity before he died in his “This Is It” tour. I think he would have been so “awwwed” and proud of this dance….

Ok, with that said, let’s see what George could find out for us for next week. Note first that Jacoby and Karina must have skipped the after show interviews. Maybe they went straight to rehearsals instead?

First up, Derek and Kellie talk of having the Flamenco. Derek hasn’t heard the music yet, but, it will be about “keeping the devil down”. Their other dance is the Argentine Tango! Next week, is all about being intense. George also asks Derek about having 4 couples in the finale. Derek isn’t sure how he feels, but, more routines means more entertainment, so it will be ok. Kellie also talks a little of her new single coming out.

George is having a hard time reading Val and his feelings about having the Hip Hop next week. Val has a lot of research to do. The Quickstep is their other dance. Val is going to try and relax and enjoy the ride for whatever happens. When asked about having 4 couples in the finals, Val is tongue tied, but, mentions how more people would get paid. He hopes just to move and inspire the audience no matter who and how many are in the finals.

Aly and Mark are excited about having the Afro Jazz next week. Mark says it will be very tribal and punk (Mark, a bit of advise… don’t go with any “monkey” moves or monkey costumes). They are also happy with the idea of having 4 couples in the finals. They don’t admit to having a Rumba, but, it’s mentioned at the end. So, I think they do? Read more..

DWTS Season 16, Week 8 – Who Got the Boot? (SPOILERS)

So, DWTS Producers, if you’re keeping track, here’s how much of your show we predicted well before it went on the air:

– That Zendaya would get the encore.

– That you would put Jacoby or Kellie in Jeopardy.

– That you would deviate from the “Bottom two” formula and revert to the “not necessarily the bottom two” formula so that you could not reveal that Ingo is also bottom two.

– That Derek’s new dance would be more incredible than anything he’s done so far.

– That Sean would be eliminated.

And we were correct on ALL counts. Aren’t you embarrassed?? Aren’t you embarrassed to so blatantly pimp an ABC employee? Aren’t you embarrassed by making a fool out of yourselves for the tweens who aren’t even watching the show?? The very best choreographer you have gets treated like crap by an OTT judge (and he’s just the latest in a long line to get OTT treatment) has not gotten ONE encore this season (while the Disney employee is on number 3). Not to mention that week after week you find a way to show NO behind the scenes footage of certain couples, but drool all over others.  Heads up – *I* am a regular viewer (soon to be former regular viewer) and you’re only listening to the squeaky, childish wheels.  I hope Derek wins an Emmy and tells you to shove it up your….

Anyway….how did we do? Well, Courtney and I barely made it through the first half of the show without falling asleep from boredom.

Heidi: Said Sean was going home and Ingo was in the bottom two OR there would be no bottom two and either Jacoby or Kellie would be there with Sean.

Courtney: Said Sean was going home with Ingo in position number two.

Vogue: Said Sean and Ingo in the bottom two with Sean leaving.

Winners?? Derek Hough for managing to always come out smelling like a rose with amazing f@#king talent, Zendaya for winning this show whether people vote for her or NOT, and Peanut for future super stardom – much deserved.

DWTS Season 16, Week 8 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, I have to say, I’m about over this show. Sooo predictable. Zendaya not at the top for a couple weeks, so we better make sure she’s there tonight. Kellie was at the top for a couple weeks, we better make sure she has a fall. Derek starts talking creatively, prepare for the stupid from Len. Oh, and now Sean has to be the new Andy. Did he dance great? No. But neither did Ingo. Certainly not worthy of the points separating them.

It makes me sad, actually. I nearly forgot to turn the TV on tonight.  I can’t work up too much indignation over Kellie’s Paso because I knew in advance that that was how it was going to go. It’s Zendaya’s turn to be at the top of the leaderboard. Did she have the best dances of the night? I don’t actually REMEMBER.

I’m bored. Heads up DWTS – you’re losing me.

Numbers week 8

Anyway, Sean is pretty much toast and I don’t see any way around it. Yes, Ingo has been in the bottom two before, but Sean is significantly below him in score and he’s been in the bottom two also. What would it take for Sean to be safe?? He needs ONE of the following:

–        Sean needs 19,300 more votes per million votes cast than Ingo, OR;

–        Sean needs 32,200 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

–        Sean needs 41,800 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie, OR;

–        Sean needs 45,100 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;

–        Sean needs 51,500 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya.

Yeah, I don’t see that happening either. Now, his one hope, I think, is Ingo.  What does Ingo need to be safe tomorrow night? He needs ONE of the following things to happen:

–        Ingo needs for Sean to NOT get the 19,300 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;

–        Ingo needs 12,900 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

–        Ingo needs 22,600 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie, OR;

–        Ingo needs 25,800 more votes per millon votes cast than Aly, OR;

–        Ingo needs 32,200 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya.

I would go on, but I’m bored. If I turn out to be wrong, I’ll do a follow up post. In a nutshell, I predict Ingo and Sean in the bottom two with Sean going home. If not Sean, then Ingo.  If Ingo avoids the bottom two, then Jacoby will be there, but I kind of doubt it.  We’re about at that time in the season where they stop doing a “bottom 2” and start reverting to the “in no particular order” spiel. I would not be at all surprised to see a Jeopardy final two standing. For example, them saying Sean, you’re in jeopardy….then saying the same thing to Jacoby or Kellie and Ingo. No mention of bottom two, but putting Sean against someone other than Ingo….for the sake of Drama.

And then Sean goes home. Or Ingo, if Sean is lucky.
