PureDWTS Season 24 Court Rants: I Don’t Care How “Rabid” Your Fanbase Is, You Won’t Win Without the General Audience Vote!

For the regulars, you probably have witnessed what prompted this rant 😛 For the non-regulars, bear with me: it seems like every season, there is at least one fanbase that just bugs the ever-loving sh*t out of me – and it’s usually because said fanbase decides to obnoxiously remind the entire online DWTS fandom how awesome their favorite is, and how they’re going to win, and how they’re sooooo much better than other contestants, and how much harder they’re gonna vote than all the other fans, how rabid & supportive the fanbase is, etc.  Basically – if they can think of something to boast about, they will.  Loudly, frequently, and obnoxiously…and the rest of the fans just have to grit their teeth and bear it until the season ends or that particular contestant gets eliminated.

But here’s the funny part: for all the boasting these fanbases do, very seldom do their contestants actually win DWTS.  Why? To quote one of my Twitter followers, “If you have to tell us how big it is…it’s probably not that big.” 😉 But seriously, though – there’s a bit more to it than that.  You have to take viewing demographics into account, and whether or not that fanbase aligns well with the main viewing demographic; you also have to consider if there’s another contestant on a particular season who perhaps aligns better with the main viewing demographic.  The bottom line is this:

You cannot win DWTS if you don’t have the main viewing demographic of the show on your side.

And right now, I can hear the defiant protests of hoards of Harmonizers 😛 Go ahead – you guys can tell us all till you’re blue in the face how “rabid” you are, how “organized” you are, how “passionate & committed” you are.  It comes across as a tad insecure, but go ahead.  But I’m gonna warn you right now, unless Normani can get demographics on her side (or the show tries to pull off a pimping of never-before-seen proportions), I can almost guarantee she will not win. Let me explain why, using historical data from the show…

Dancing With The Stars Winners And Where They Put Their Trophies

OMG Yahoo has posted a new article about where the winners of Dancing With The Stars have put their trophies. J.R. Martinez joked that he’d put his trophy in bed or on the hood of his car. However, his partner, Karina Smirnoff, had more traditional plans. Shawn Johnson’s trophy is at her parents’ house. Apparently, they show off her Dancing With The Stars trophy more than they do her Olympic medals. So cute. Here is more in detail….

Season 13 winner J.R. Martinez joked about his plans for his trophy in 2011. He told Us Weekly, “Right now I’m going to tuck mine into my bed and it’s going to roll around with me. And then after that, once we’ve kind of grown apart, I’m going to glue it on the hood of my car and drive around Los Angeles and honk my horn, and I’ll be my own parade!”

But J.R.’s is pro partner, Karina Smirnoff, had more traditional plans: “I’ll put my trophy in my studio in Woodland Hills,” she said. “I have a space with spotlights and I’m going to polish it every morning!”

Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson (her season 8 partner was Mark Ballas) told the Des Moines Register her trophy is home sweet home — at her parents’ place. “It’s at my parents’ house (in West Des Moines), actually,” she said. “It’s not on display, but my parents seem to show it off more than my (Olympic) medals.”

You can more about where the other winners of Dancing With The Stars have put their trophies at OMG Yahoo.

J.R. Martinez And Chelsie Hightower Spend Valentine’s Day Giving back

Chelise Hightower and J.R. Martinez have such big hearts which was apparent again this week when they attended the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital Trueheart Events’ 1st Annual All You Need Is Love Valentine’s Day Party. They showered the kids and their familues with their light, love, and fun. Below is more from Look To The Stars.

Chelsie Hightower of “Dancing With The Stars” traveled all the way from Utah to spend Valentine’s Day at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and the kids loved spending time with her. Chelsie said while she is not particularly romantic herself, she would much prefer to spend the day giving back and making a difference in the lives of children. Chelsie was also catching up with her friend, and “Dancing With The Stars” champion JR Martinez at the party, who said how excited he is to become a father when he welcomes his daughter this year. J.R. gave the patients his undivided attention as he listened intently to their stories. He was overheard sharing words of encouragement with the children and telling them how much they inspired him.

You can read more on the event at Look To The Stars. New pictures of Chelsie and J.R. at the event can be seen at Ghetty Images here and here. So cute!!

DWTS 13 Champ J.R. Martinez Talks With Tim Tebow And Sherri Shepherd About Dancing

Celebuzz is reporting J.R. Martinez was in Indianapolis over the weekend for the Super Bowl. He got to mingle with some celebrities some of which included Denver Bronco Tim Tebow. He talked to Tim as well as The View’s Sherri Shepherd while in New York City recently ….both rumored contenders to dance on Dancing With The Stars. Here’s a quote for what they told him about dancing on the show….

…J.R. revealed, “I actually did come across Tim Tebow, and we chatted about [Dancing With the Stars] for a second. I thought he’d do pretty well on the show!”

But does that mean Tim is actually up for the task? Not so fast, according to J.R.

“He said, ‘Maybe in a year’ … That’s pretty much what he said.”

As for who J.R. would personally like to see on the show, the military vet, who recently teamed with The Phoenix Society to help raise awareness for burn victims, has his sights set on one of daytime’s most popular ladies.

“I think Sherri Shepherd from ‘The View’ would be good,” he said. “We talked about it a couple times when I was still in New York. I think she’d do good on it.”

You can read the full story at Celebuzz.

Very interesting! Once again, I would not be surprised if Sherri dances for Season 14.

DWTS Season 13 Champs Karina Smirnoff And J.R. Martinez Light Up Mohegan Sun

What a weekend it was for a bunch of lucky fans and spectators at the Mohegan Sun. Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Champs Karina Smirnoff and J.R. Martinez took to the stage one more time to dance. Emcee Gary Craig of WTIC-FM said “it was the largest crowd ever” for the “Reality Check” series that comes to the Mohegan Sun four times a year and Karina and J.R. danced for free. More below and he sure to read the full article at TheDay.com for how Karina and J.R. answered questions and signed autographs. There is also a stunning gallery of “must see” pictures here (the first picture is precious as can be. I’ll let you look to see why!).

Martinez and Smirnoff greeted fans with hand slaps and smiles before launching into fast-paced dance that took them to every inch of the small stage, ending with a dramatic dip, Smirnoff’s head just inches from the stage floor.

The crowd erupted.

“You are so loud and so marvelous,” professional dancer Smirnoff said grabbing the microphone, “and we are very, very, very appreciative.”

She then darted off the stage to change outfits for the next number, leaving Martinez with the microphone. It was a comfortable spot for the wounded Iraq War veteran, motivational speaker, actor-turned-celebrity dancer. He declared himself a “microphone hog” and answered questions from the audience while waiting for his dance partner to return for one more number.

ADDING: Thanks to the Mohegan Sun You Tube Channel, below is a video of Karina and J.R. dancing, signing autographs, and being interviewed. Thanks to PureDWTS reader and Karina fan @Jimmbboe for the heads up!!
