Derek Hough Tapped To Judge “World Of Dance”, Hairspray Live Coming Up Soon

A lot is going on in the world of Derek Hough. Not only is he getting ready to dance in “Hairspray Live” on December 7th, he has been tapped to judge Jennifer Lopez’s new dance series “World Of Dance”. Here is more from Variety….

The judges’ table is filling out on broadcast’s next reality competition show, “World of Dance” on NBC.

Derek Hough and Ne-Yo have been tapped as judges on the dance series, joining previously announced judge Jennifer Lopez, Variety has learned.

“World of Dance,” which was picked up this summer with a 10-episode order is described as an unparalleled dance competition that will feature solo artists competing against duos and crews in all genres of dance, including hip hop, krumping, popping, locking, tap, ballet, break dancing, ballroom, clogging, stomping and more. The winner will receive a grand prize of $1 million.

Like we were talking on at twitter and Pure Derek Hough…this might be it for Derek and Dancing With The Stars and I can’t say I blame him. Can you? More at Variety. For more on Derek including a bunch of new “Hairspray Live” interviews and more, see Pure Derek Hough.

PureDWTS Season 18 End-of-Season Awards – Which Song Choice Was the Worst?

So you’ve seen the results for the best guest judge voting – now onto the results for the crappiest song of the season!!!
worstsongchoice

Write-in votes:

“All of Me” by John Legend (Meryl’s foxtrot) – 2

“Girl” by Pharrell (Amy & Mark’s salsa) – 1

“Can’t Remember to Forget You” by Shakira feat. Rihanna (Nene’s Argentine tango) – 1

“Dare You” by Hardwell (Amy’s freestyle) – 1

“Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers (James’ rumba) – 1

Votes omitted due to failure to follow the format – 2

Courtney: The two songs I thought would garner the most votes, did – and while “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems” probably didn’t do Charlie any favors…it actually started to grow on me after a second viewing 😛 Maybe it was just the enthusiasm with which he attacked it, but he made the most of a crummy song.  The same cannot be said for “I Luh Ya Papi” – which the two couples dancing to clearly disliked as much as we did.  It drives me nuts when J. Lo does songs like these – they just make her sound downright unintelligent, and make it seem like she’s trying to remind everyone that she’s hip and has chola street cred because she talks like this.  The song is bad, no doubt – but I also don’t think Val or Maks really put their all into choreographing that duel, and thus the end result was even more lackluster.  I have to roll my eyes a bit at “I Wan’na Be Like You”, because I really only added that because I saw so many Meryl fans griping about how “terrible a samba song” it was. Boo hoo, poor Princess Meryl gets saddled with one mediocre individual song the entire season – go ask Charlie how it feels to get screwed over every other week, with “Sail”, “Mo’ Money, Mo Problems”, “Wildest Moments”, etc.  And James has more to gripe about with that gadawful “Gasolina” than Meryl dancing to a song from The Jungle Book.  As for the write-ins? Once again hard for me to say that Meryl got screwed with her foxtrot song, because even though it wasn’t really a foxtrot, it was still one of the top 10 songs in the country at the time and the shippers (and judges) ate it right up.  And anyone wanna make a bet that whoever wrote in “Dare You” was an insecure Meryl fan? 😛

Heidi: I ain’t takin’ that bet, Courtney. Same kinda idiot who haunts Amy’s instagram to scream “Meryl and Maks!!” on every single photo that Amy posts. :::rolls eyes:::  Must protect Princess Meryl at all costs!!  My nickname is an inside joke…wish I could say the same for Meryl’s. But no…the pedestal is still very, very high. Meryl overcame so many obstacles on her path to victory…horrendous song choices…mean judges picking on the stellar choreography…oh, wait. 😀  ANYway, JLo was getting  a lot of crap on the radio this morning for pretending to be “Jennie from the block” while staying in Manhattan. Apparently she gave 25k tickets to people in Brooklyn for her concert and half of them didn’t show up? With songs like “I luh Ya Papi” can anyone really blame them??  Yes, the song was bad (it got my vote)…but the choreographers did not help at ALL. Lord what a whimpy assed dance. The difference between “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and the “I Wan’na Be Like You” is also totally in the choreographer, IMO.  Neither song is a REALLY terrible song choice (but Charlie definitely got the short end of the stick in this instance), but Sharna made the best of it while Maks couldn’t get past it.  I can’t help thinking that if Derek or Mark had been handed Maks’ samba song (or JLo’s song), we would have seen some pretty creative choreography. Ah well.

Vogue: It’s so funny as when I first heard Charlie had “Sail” for a Paso Doble, I didn’t think it would work, but, it actually didn’t bother me. Give it up to Charlie and Sharna making the best of it….again as they did through out the season. Another song that just annoys me to no end anyway is “I Love Ya Pai”. I cringed through out Danica and Meryl’s Samba duel with that song. However, another song I didn’t like was “I Wanna Be Like You” for Meryl’s Samba. Awful song with a lack luster dance too. In the end, I voted for “I Wanna Be Like You” for the worst song.

Gleb Savchenko, Elena Samodanova, Sharna Burgess, Paul Kirkland Attend OK Magazine Event, American Idol Talk

Aren’t these some fun new photos below? Last night, Gleb Savchenko, Elena Samodanova, Sharna Burgess, and Paul Kirkland attended OK Magazine’s So Sexy L.A. Event at the LURE in Los Angeles, California. So cute….and what I’d give to see all four of these pros do Dancing With The Stars next season. 😀 Be sure to see more pics of them at the Getty Links in the pictures. There could be other pros who attended too. If so, let us know in comments.

And hey, what’s up with Gleb and Jennifer Lopez? I don’t know, but, this tweet sure is a fun teaser of them working together. Speaking of Jennifer, did you see her dance on American Idol last night? Wow is all I will say. Girl had some strong and powerful moves. Plus, the ending song with Keith Urban, Harry Connick. Jr, and Randy Jackson was the ultimate.

So, as you know from a previous posting, former Dancing With The Stars pro and recent guest judge, Maks Chmerkovskiy, performed at the 2013 American Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California Sunday night. More New Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Cast Rehearsal Interviews

Leah Remini tells Shaun Robertson of Access Hollywood how hard it’s been to stand up straight for a Fox Trot. Tony Dovolani explains and says they are going to have the “best growing pattern”. Leah jokes about her dancing experience saying she was kicked out of tap dancing when she was 3 or 4. Shaun Robertson also asks Leah about her friend Jennifer Lopez who plans to be in the audience for support. More below.

Also, below are new Access Hollywood dance rehearsals interviews with Bill Nye & Tyne Stecklein (hmmm uhhhh), Bill Engvall & Emma Slater(wow, not bad), and Peta Murgatroyd & Brant Daugherty(he looks good too) as they ready for the show. Check them out and let us know what you think.

PureDWTS William Levy On Growing Up In A Communist Country, Being Bullied, And More

This is the best interview I’ve seen with William Levy this season. It’s touching as he walks Nightline through what his life was like as a child growing up in communist Cuba for what he experienced to the point of deprivation, being hungry, and being bullied. Living in Cuba was a “do or die” situation. He was ready to risk his life to come to the States. Also, it might surprise you to learn William’s reaction to visiting a grocery store in America for the first time since he had never seen an apple before. Also, check out how he doesn’t think he has a pretty face and why (which I found humbling). See if you don’t agree and lots more below…

“A Cinderella Christmas” Opens For Second Year, DWTS Mark Ballas Choreographs

Back by popular demand this Christmas season in North Hollywood, CA is the stage show “Cinderella Christmas”. The Bonnie Lithgoe production features Baron HardUp as Willard, recording artist “Bean” as the fairy godmother, American Idol’s David Hernandez as Dandini, and more fun stars. Even more cool is that Dancing With The Stars pro Mark Ballas updated and choreographed the dancing. I would so like to see what he came up with for the songs below….

The production is helmed by Bonnie Lythgoe from So You Think You Can Dance (Australia) and choreographed by Dancing With the Stars’ Mark Ballas, with American Idol’s Michael Orland serving as Musical Director. Bonnie Lythgoe, Kris Lythgoe, and Becky Baeling are producers. An updated version of the classic tale, “A Cinderella Christmas” features family-friendly updates, a comedic twist and modern music, including “Let’s Get Loud” by Jennifer Lopez, “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga, Michael Buble’s “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” and Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway.”

You can read more on the show here as well as on information on how you can obtain tickets. “Cinderella Christmas” will run from December 22 to January 8 at the El Portal. Also, if interested, follow and watch this Facebook page closely as they may post coverage of the show and production as it unfolds more in the coming days.
