DWTS Season 13 – Pro Watch!!

ETA: Updates are in red.

Note: John taught us a new trick – we can now “stickie” a post to the top of the page and add new posts below it. Which is what I’m going to do with this post, so don’t miss anything down below. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย ETA: You can tell a stickied post by the lovely blue color. ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, so the pros supposedly find out if they are competing on Monday, but in seasons past they actually start getting confirmed this weekend. ย If you believe @DWTSGossip on Twitter, 8 have been confirmed and 4 are waiting to find out. She also says there will be three “new faces” on the dance floor with partners. Which means only ONE of the currently unconfirmed pros will be getting a partner, according to what she wrote about it. I’m still wondering if it just means 3 new Troupe members, but she implies three new faces competing with celebs (which means they don’t necessarily have to be Troupe, since those aren’t technically “new”). Wow. I just made my own brain ache. I hope you all followed that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve noted all those called “confirmed” by @DWTSGossip, below. All that said, a word of caution: I do think that @DWTSGossip has a source that is reliable. I say that’s likely because I’ve had them before and @DWTSGossip has been on target in the past. HOWEVER, as with anything you read on the net, it is not “for sure” until it comes from the Pros themselves, Tom Bergeron or DWTS producers via GMA. We’ve seen a previously reliable source (TMZ) go down in flames this season and they were right the last two seasons. ย Just be cautious before you start throwing parties…or go into mourning. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I think she’s (?) probably right…but that’s what I said about TMZ as well. ๐Ÿ˜‰ย ย ETA: Please note that nothing is certain until we hear it from the Pros or the show. Don’t yell at me if something turns out to be incorrect. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Read more..

DWTS Season 13 – Pro Watch!! August 3, 2011

Did someone say Pro Watch?? Why yes, Courtney did. ๐Ÿ™‚ Every season we do a post that keeps a running update on which pros appear to be confirmed for Season 13. Keep in mind that we post it how we hear it – unless a Pro says “Yes, I am on DWTS Season 13”, the rest is all conjecture and guessing and hoping and inference and gossip. We try very hard to label guesses and hopes as just that – guesses and hope. ๐Ÿ™‚ Ain’t nothing wrong with a good bit of hope – we just try to call it straight up.

I’m not going to continually update this particular post – when it’s time to do a bit of live updating, I will let you know. I think it’s a bit too soon. My boy Tommy B tweeted today that the cast announcement will be August 29th (which Court was “psychic” about), which means we are getting down to the wire and the rumors and pro confirmations will start flying fast and furious. ๐Ÿ™‚ But the “for sure” pro cast list (aka “leaks”) is probably still two weeks out. At least. ๐Ÿ™‚

The MEN
Derek Hough – YES, per Deena Katz on Ryan Seacrest’s Radio Show
Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Most likely, per Maks’ twitter
Mark Ballas – Unknown
Louis Van Amstel – Unknown
Tony Dovolani – Unknown, but a recent interview could be taken as an affirmative – but just a guess, IMO
Dmitry Chaplin – Unknown
Corky Ballas – Unknown

The WOMEN
Cheryl Burke – I’d be shocked if not
Kym Johnson – unknown
Chelsie Hightower – strong possibility
Lacey Schwimmer – unknown
Karina Smirnoff – unknown
Anna Trebunskaya – unknown

Ballroom Battlers – confirmed by Louis
Lacey Schwimmer
Mark Ballas
Tony Dovolani
Louis Van Amstel
Cheryl Burke
Karina Smirnoff

For the record, I do NOT believe that taking part in the Ballroom Battle is indicative of the pros’ participation in DWTS with a celebrity one way or another. I’ve also heard that BB is NOT going to be that time consuming, to the point that it would preclude those pros from competing.

The Troupe
Oksana Dmyrenko
Tristan MacManus – Yes
Peta Murgatroyd
Kiki Nyemchek
Nicole Volynets
Ted Volynets

I assume all the same troupe members will be back – but I will update them as required. As always, give me the heads up if you hear anything that I’ve missed – I’m not stingey with credit. ๐Ÿ™‚

DWTS Who Wore it Better? Part XI – Season 12 Thus Far Edition

With a mere 4 weeks of competition complete, we’ve already seen a slew of costume dittos from the pros and also the troupe this season.ย  Let’s haveย a look, shall we? It’ll give Heidi & I some time to come up with this week’s cheesecake…and I’m sure it will be a doozy, after suffering through “American Night”-mare. ๐Ÿ™‚

Battle of the lime green, jeweled & feathered Latin costume: Peta in the “On the Floor” pro/troupe dance this season vs. Kym’s pro dance with Tony to Santana in season 11

Courtney: Hmmm.ย  Tough one for me.ย  I like Petra’s hair better, but I think the color looks better with Kym’s skin.ย  Although I’m not wild about that thing they’ve got going across the midriff on Kym…glad they omitted it for Peta.

Heidi: Peta is certainly beautiful, and looks good in the dress, but I don’t think the Awesome Boobage of Kym can’t be beaten – by anyone. ๐Ÿ™‚ Add in that her darker tan compliments the dress and there you go. I do see something resembling a crotch doilie though and it’s giving me flashbacks. ๐Ÿ™‚

Courtney: I was thinking more “feather loincloth”, but crotch doily works too ๐Ÿ™‚

The winner: The Awesome Boobage prevails once more ๐Ÿ˜€

Battle of the beaded black mesh Latin dress with plunging neckline, redux: Karina’s pro dance with Louis to Jennifer Hudson this season vs. Anna’s pre-season photo shoot with Sugar Ray this season vs. Kym’s cha-cha with the Hoff in season 11

Heidi: Again, I have to go with Kym for reasons previously stated. ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, I think Anna is too pale in her photo and with the red hair it just washes her out. Karina looks amazing, but I would go with Kym.

Courtney: The problem with this dress is that it’s not a typical “Anna” dress – she seems to tend more towards the conservative, less va-va-va-voom Latin costumes these days, so she’s out.ย  I loved the way the dress looked on Karina while she was movingย – quite quickly, I might add, which is why it was hard for Heidi to get a clear screen cap – but alas, Kym reigns supreme once more with her sex kitten hair, smoky eye makeup, and perpetual Awesome Boobage ๐Ÿ™‚

The winner: You don’t mess with the Awesome Boobage.

Battle of the hot pink fringed Latin dress, redux: Chelsea’s pre-season photo shoot with Mark this season vs. Lacey’s Team Kristi cha-cha with Kyle in season 11 vs. Anna in the “On the Floor” pro/troupe dance this season

Courtney: Poor Anna always seems to get stuck with the 3 & 4-peat costumes ๐Ÿ˜› God love her…she’s cute, but I’m not wild about the hot pink paired with her red hair.ย  Sticking withย cute-as-a-button Chelsea on this one…ย

Heidi: Ummm….not Lacey? ๐Ÿ™‚ I think I lean toward Chelsea, as I think her hair style compliments the “cute” of the dress.

The winner: Chelsea’s still pretty in pink.

Battle of the red & gold paso doble dress: Karina’s paso doble with Mario in season 6 vs. Oksana’s paso doble demo with Kiki this season

Heidi: I’m going to go with Karina based on skin tone and, even though it’s not a fair comparison since we’re looking at stills, the movement she achieved with this dress. Although that could also be due to what appears to be a different cut to the bottom portion – did they remove a slit and the gold trim for Oksana?

Courtney: Oksana keeps reminding us of how she’s a “powerhouse in a small package”, so I’m guessing they probably had to hem this dress for her – hence, the disappearance of the gold trim at the bottom of the dress.ย  Looks like they also omitted the gold belt (likely to makeย her torso appear longer) and may have sewn up a few of the slits & jeweled the bodice to balance the look.ย  A good example of how some minor tweaking can really change the look of a costume ๐Ÿ™‚ But I agree – I like the look better on Karina.ย  Just works better with her skin tone and her build.

The winner: Oksana the powerhouse-in-a-small-package is no match for powerhouse-in-any-package Karina!

Battle of the pink & red ruffled Latin dress: Oksana in the “On the Floor” pro/troupe dance this season vs. Cheryl’s samba with Gilles in season 8

Courtney: I feel like a lot of Cheryl’s costumes in season 8 were similar to this – ruffly, midriff-y, and brightly-colored.ย  I guess she was maybe celebrating her weight loss (and departure from the frumpy costumes she wore in season 7 to cover up her weight gain) with all of these loud dresses…but it just doesn’t feel like something that really fits her personality well.ย  For that reason, I’m gonna go with Oksana…seems like something she’d actually pick out for herself.

Heidi: Hmmmm….I think I have to go with Oksana and I’m not really sure why I like it better on her. Overall, I don’t much care for the dress at all, but Oksana wears it well.

The winner: Everyone’s favorite pint-sized mail-order bride – Oksana ๐Ÿ™‚

Battle of the red & orange fringed Latin dress: Melissa’s would-be jive with Tony in season 8 vs. Lacey in the “On the Floor” pro/troupe dance this season

Heidi: Again, a dress that I don’t care for much – but believe it or not I’m going to go with Lacey. Again, not a fairย comparisonย because Lacey isย benefitingย from movement whereas Melissa is stationary. That said, Lacey’s hair is gawdawful. ย But then, Melissa looks like a school marm posing as a hotย Latinย momma and failing miserably. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย So, it’s really a double fail, but less on Lacey. This time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Courtney: Poor Melissa – she didn’t even have a chance to show us this dress in motion (this was the week that she injured herself and was unable to do her jive, so they showed us the footage of theย camera blockingย instead).ย  She just wore it on the results show for the sake of consistency.ย  Not that I’m too disappointed – this dress reminds me of a Muppet.ย  Or rather, the leftover trimmings of a Muppet on the cutting room floor of Jim Henson studios ๐Ÿ™‚ But weird &ย Muppet-y fits right in Lacey’s wheelhouse, so I’m gonna go with her asย well.

The winner: Lacey rocks the “leftover Muppet” look well.

Battle of the pink ruffled mesh rumba dress & the jeweled & ruffled black mesh samba dress: Lacey’s rumba & samba with Kyle in season 11 vs. 2 wardrobe assistants futzing around backstage this season ๐Ÿ™‚

Courtney: Two of Lacey’s weirder costumes from last season, fo sho…but these boys are fearlessly rocking them.ย  The Asian guy dominates in this one – he’s even got the artsy Latin hand gesture down cold! Other guy gets points for trying, but the socks, dude? As for Lacey…she never stood a chance against either of these fashion plates ๐Ÿ™‚

Heidi: Theย Asianย guy, definitely. The other guy would be doing well if not for the white ankle socks. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The winner: Lacey never stood a chance against the fabulosity of these two ๐Ÿ™‚

DWTS12 – Introducing The Dancers Of The Dancing With The Stars Dance Troupe (Photos)

From what we can gather from Facebook and Twitter, below are some of the new professional dancers that are all part of the new “Dancing With The Stars Dance Troupe”. Elena Grinenko of Grinya’s Entertainment, retired and famed Russian World Champion Ballroom Dancer, is in charge of the new troupe. As reported earlier, the new dance troupe will be choreographing and performing demonstration dances every Tuesday night during the Results show. I’m really looking forward to seeing what this new dance troupe is all about, are you? Now to introduce some of the new dancers….

Kiki Nyemchek & Magda Fialek:

Oleksandr (Sasha) Altukhov and Oksana Dmytrenko:

Nicole Volynets:

Ted Volynets:

And last but, not least Peta Murgatroyd who many of you are already familiar with. According to Peta, Damian Whitewood isn’t part of the dance troupe, but, will still be dancing in the pro numbers. Peta is also helping to choreograph the dance troupe according to her twitter.

As soon as we find out more on the new Dance Troupe and more of the dancers, we’ll be sure to let you know. Stop back here after Tuesday night’s show and let us know what you think. ๐Ÿ˜‰

EDIT TO ADD: Thanks to PureDWTS reader Ryan, here is even more on the Dance Troupe from ABC.

Tomorrow, TUESDAY, MARCH 29 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET), on the 12th season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” (“Episode 1202A”), the first couple will be eliminated from the competition, an all-new pro dance troupe of six world renowned performers will make its debut, and top-selling recording artist Chris Brown will perform two numbers.

This week, an all-new troupe of six world-renowned, award-winning dancers joins the series for the first of several spectacular “Results Show” performances this season. On Tuesday, the troupe will perform an opening number alongside six “Dancing with the Stars” pros and do a second, stand alone routine choreographed by Jason Gilkison. The Season 12 “Dancing with the Stars” troupe is:

* Oksana Dmyrenko is a premiere performer in Ballroom and Latin dance around the world. Having studied in her home of Ukraine and around the world, she won the 2010 International World Masters Championship, placed 2nd in the 2009 U.S. National Championships, and was recently among the Top 30 of 500 of the world’s best couples in the prestigious Blackpool Dance Festival.

* Tristan MacMahon began dancing in his home of Dublin, Ireland before moving on to compete around Europe, eventually winning numerous Juvenile, Junior and Amateur competitions. After appearing in “Ella Enchanted,” he performed in theatre productions throughout Europe, including Bryan Flynn’s production of “Oliver!” and “Aladdin,” among others. He joined the U.K. tour of “Simply Ballroom” and, after a successful tour in London and Las Vegas, toured as a featured dancer with several successful shows in the U.S. After numerous world tours and a year teaching Ballroom and Latin dancing in the U.S., he returned to Europe to join the cast of “Dirty Dancing” as Dance Captain. He then went on to do a second stint on The West End stage in London

* Peta Murgatroyd was born in Auckland, New Zealand and raised in Perth, Western Australia. She studied Classical Ballet from age 4 and trained for 12 years under former principal dancer of the Kirov Ballet Madame Lubov Nikonorenko. After becoming the Australian State Champion within three months of beginning Ballroom training, she competed around the world, placing 2nd in the Great World City Championships, was a semi-finalist in the Lion City Championships in Singapore, a finalist in the Australian Open Championships, and placed 3rd in the world at the British Youth Latin Championships in Blackpool 2006. After achieving her lifelong goal of dancing on Broadway, she moved to the U.S. to pursue a career in film and television in Los Angeles.

* 19-year-old Christopher “Kiki” Nyemchek began Ballroom and Latin dancing at age 4. Along with his dance partners, he has represented the U.S. at the World Championships three times, and competed in Europe and Asia. * Nicole Volynets began Ballroom training at age 14 with coach Maksim Chmerkovskiy. With her brother Ted by her side, Nicole has traveled the world in competition, placing as a top three national finalist for seven consecutive years and in the top eight at the 2007 U.S. National DanceSport Challenge. She performed at The Wynn, Las Vegas and in Macau, China for the opening of The Wynn – Macau.

* Ted Volynets began Ballroom dancing at age 11, following in older sister Nicole’s footsteps. While training with coaches Maksim and Val Chmerkovkiy, he has traveled the world representing his country, placing Top 15 at the National DanceSport Championships 2010. His television credits include appearances on MTV’s “MADE” and “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” Outside the studio, Ted is a senior at New York University, studying Economics.
