DWTS at The Dizzy Feet Foundation Benefit – Fan Blogs!

Many thanks to Kristina and Katie for their blogs about the Dizzy Feet Foundation Benefit from the other night. I’ve only put some excerpts that pertain to DWTS here – you can find Katie’s in it’s entirety at PureSYTYCD. Kristina’s can be found at her personal blog.

Kristina –

So, I found out a few days ago that Katie got tickets for the Dizzy Feet Gala (thanks Dona and Dee), and I could barely contain myself mainly because that meant we’d be seeing Derek Hough. Also, it meant that I didn’t have to go to that other concert next week because I can write my paper on this gala.

We arrived at Hollywood & Highland with about 30 minutes to spare. So we hurried on up to the Kodak Theater. They were doing the red carpet on the 1st level so we got a peek at some of the people arriving like Glee’s Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester), SYTYCD Judge Mary Murphy, and DWTS’ Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts. Sadly enough I couldn’t get my camera out quick enough before the guards made us leave. So we went into the Kodak Theater, and to our seats. Our seats were REALLY good – 4th row, balcony and on the left side. It was definitely a full house at the Kodak Theater, which by the way is ridiculously beautiful.

The show started and Derek Hough and Cheryl Burke were like the second performance. I wasn’t ready for it, no camera or anything (they were really strict about cameras, btw). They were amazing! I found out later that he and Cheryl just came up with it this morning. I never realized how great of a pair those two made till tonight. They definitely do the facials to Latin dances that I love to see. Hands down, a smoking hot performance. It’s a shame that it probably lasted a minute and half, 2 minutes to top.

As for the DWTS people, aside from Cheryl and Derek’s number, Lacey Schwimmer and Lance Bass (LOVE) came out. Anna Trebunskaya and her hubby, Jonathan Roberts did a beautiful dance to Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me”. Cheryl came back out to dance with her partner from Season 8, Gilles Marini. AND Mark Ballas did the “Rip It Up” Jive with Kristi Yamaguchi! She is so cute. It was a breath of fresh air watching them have so much fun.

Katie –

From memorable dances from the So You think You Can Dance seasons, to the all so entertaining routines from Dancing With The Stars, a collective group of people came together today to celebrate its first Dizzy Feet Foundation gala.

My friend and I were privileged enough to see the works of some brilliant choreographers tonight!! And the seats were amazing! I think you couldn’t go wrong with sitting anywhere really. The structure of the place is done so thoughtfully that wherever you were, you would have a great view!

Derek and Cheryl from DWTS danced a great Cha Cha Cha, getting the audience excited with a great opening number, and making the audience want more. Derek and Cheryl definitely seemed like they were enjoying their night; however later we found out that the dance was put together earlier this morning. I say fantastic job for a time crunch. You wouldn’t have even thought for a second otherwise.
Lacey Schwimmer and Lance Bass also graced the dance floor tonight. Being such huge fans of both Dancing With The Stars, as well as So You Think You Can Dance, we were thrilled to bits when a Travis Wall routine was picked for the night. Jason and Jeanine’s Necklace routine had the room applauding, it was an exact replica of the performance piece shown on the show only a billion times better watching it live.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Pros and Celebs at the Dizzy Feet Foundation Benefit

Dizzy Feet Foundation is:

Dizzy Feet Foundation was founded in 2009 by producer Nigel Lythgoe, director Adam Shankman, “Dancing with the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba and actress Katie Holmes to help underprivileged young people realize their dream of becoming professional dancers and to support, improve, and increase access to dance education in the Unites States.

They had a huge benefit tonight at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. From DWTS, Mark, Derek, Cheryl, Jonathan, Anna T., Lacey, Gilles, Kristi Y., Lance Bass and Ballas Hough Band all performed, along with many people from So You Think You Can Dance. Socialite Life has quite a few pictures, a few of which I’ve posted below. Please visit their site for more pictures – I did NOT post them all here. I’ve posted LOTS of pictures of Derek and Cheryl dancing together on PureDerekHough.

Lots more pictures at the Wall Street Journal.

The Local ABC Affiliate covered the event tonight:

Twittering with the Stars – DWTS 9 and Beyond

While waiting on the breakfast to be ready (Champagne Brunch – Yay!!), I took a stroll around twitter and found the celebs and pros have been tweeting fools. Enjoying their time off. I won’t post all their tweets, but some of them and their twit pics were fun. If you want to follow them and see what they have to say, you can find all their twitter accounts on a previous post!

Natalie – word to the wise, never talk about how good traffic is, because then it WON’T be. 🙂 Derek being a good uncle, taking the kids to Miley Cyrus with Julianne and his sisters. They apparently hit a local honky tonk after – I assume someone took the children home. 🙂

USA Today Article on DWTS

DWTS behind the scenes

USAToday.com article called “‘Dancing’ Stars find new fans and more opportunities”.  The focus of this article is mainly on Gilles, but it’s a pretty interesting read all the way around. Here are a few excerpts and the picture they used:

LOS ANGELES — Hours after actor Gilles Marini and dance partner Cheryl Burke wrapped up a rumba that drew a standing ovation from the Dancing With the Stars studio audience, he needs a body tuneup.
Soft New Age music and a soothing tabletop waterfall in chiropractor Tom Rudenko’s office are a quiet contrast to the boisterous theatrics at ABC’s hit ballroom competition. But they’re just the tonic for weary Marini.

The potential payoff is far bigger than bragging rights and the cheesy mirror-ball trophy awaiting Dancing‘s winners on the May 19 finale. Yes, the actors, athletes, singers, models and reality stars who have appeared since its 2005 debut have risked injury and humiliation on live TV. But Dancing also has jump-started careers, polished tarnished reputations and generated opportunities in ways most of them couldn’t imagine.

Lil’ Kim, the pint-sized rapper best known for R-rated lyrics, breast pasties and prison time for perjury, was ousted last week. But during her stint, viewers saw the sweet demeanor and feisty spirit of a hip-hop artist shaking her booty to the cha-cha. “I think I’ve already won,” she says. “This has shown another side of me. I’ve got new fans. Acting makes sense; I could see doing a kids’ show. Definitely, the music will be different.”

For Johnson, 17, who may aim for the 2012 Olympics, Dancing provides more options. “It’s really given me the opportunity to see what else is out there. I never thought about acting. Now? Maybe,” she says, giggling.

Even show regulars have managed to parlay Dancing into opportunity. Co-host Samantha Harris is subbing as host of syndicated game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Burke, who opens her third dance studio this week, also has an apparel line and endorsement deals. Pro dancer Julianne Hough is leaving to focus on a promising singing career.

Dancing with the Stars on InFANity

InFANity is a show on the TV Guide channel that I’d never heard of before – but this week they delve into Dancing with the Stars. The video is in five parts, each part covering different aspects of the show. Every part has a lot of clips of dances and interviews, past and present. Stars from every season are interviewed, as are the judges and the hosts. The only people we see, but don’t hear a lot from, are my favorites – The Pros.

Part 1 – About the Show and the Judges

Dancing with the Stars Live Tour Experience – Rosemont, IL

I’ve had a ton of interest in my post about the Dancing with the Stars tour. There only about half way through the tour, so you can still get tickets to see some of the best Dancing with the Stars dancers live.

Recently I had someone post a comment about how much they enjoyed the Dancing with the Stars tour visit to Rosemont, IL and I asked her to write a guest post about the experience. Here’s Mary’s description of the Dancing with the Stars tour.

Hello everyone!

I am Mary and I attended the Dancing with the Stars Live Tour at the Allstate Arena on January 9th, 2009. When I got to the Allstate Arena, I was wearing my ” Maksim” outfit made up of a grey sweat shirt and black sweatpants with Maksim written all over it. I saw one girl with a hot pink poster that said I Love Lance!

My mom, sister, and I went to the tour. My mom bought my sister and I a shirt that cost $30 and my sisters cost $35. We found our section, which was 210. Our tickets were $50 each, which wasn’t bad. I thought that the seats would be ok, but they were pretty good. We saw everything.

The stage was really cool and it was smaller than I thought. The show started 20 minutes late and I was kind of mad. There were commercials and a local dance competition between Chicago couples. That was kind of cool.

Then the show started and each dancer was introduced and all I heard was screaming. I love Maksim and when he was introduced, I screamed so loud! lol The dances were really upbeat and the different kinds of music was amazing. Serious, aggressive, and romantic music. The crowd favored Cheryl Burke, Lance Bass, and Maksim C.

Toni Braxton sang two of her songs and the dancers danced to them. There was a 20 minute break. We walked around and talked to a couple of coppers who we know. The show started again and the dances got even better. The focus was on everyone more than individuals. The final group dance was everything I expected and then I was sad to see it end.

I would definitely rate the DWTS Live Tour a 10, because the dancers were so energetic and the crowd truly enjoyed the experience of seeing them dance live. Afterwords, my mom, sister, and I went downstairs and waited in the back for the dancers and celebities to come out and sign autographs. I thought I recognized Lacey Schwimmer with out her tall heels and her colorful hair extensions, and I said Lacey and she gave me a hug. I asked her to sign an autograph and she said sure, sweetie. Then she took a picture with my sister and I. I said thank you and she gave me another hug. She was so nice and approachable. She was the nicest one! lol

We also saw Lance Bass, Maurice Green, Eytda S. with a robe and boots on, and Alec Mazo. We were waiting to see if Maksim would come out ,but the cops said you guys have to go home. I was so mad, because we paid for tickets and I think that we have a right to wait for the dancer to come out and sign a couple of autographs. It wasn’t worth fighting with cops, so we just left. The tour was amazing and If Maksim is on the next season of DWTS, we will for sure attend the tour again. Amazing show! Great job to all of the dancers and the band was amazing.

Thanks for the writeup Mary. If anyone else has attended the Dancing with the Stars tour, I’d love to have you do a writeup of your experience as well.

Dancing with the Stars Winner (My Prediction)

In preparation for the finals of Dancing with the Stars next week, I decided I’d make a little prediction on who is going to be the Dancing with the Stars 2008 Winner. Let me make it easy for everyone:

BROOKE BURKE and DEREK HOUGH

Not only do Brooke and Derek deserve to win Dancing with the Stars, but Derek has a fan base as large or larger than any of the stars. Add in Brooke’s ability to use social media (See Brooke’s Blog) and you have a couple that will be unbeatable in the finals.

The reality of the Dancing with the Stars finals is that the judges scores are almost exactly the same for each couple. In the finals, America’s vote is what truly decides the winner. This year they have added a small twist having a Samba Face-Off (each dance set to the same song). Dancing to the same song will offer a little more differentiation to the couples as opposed to each couple just re-dancing one of their previous dances. However, it’s always been almost scripted that the final show is a celebration of the last 3 couples talent.

My only concern is that I think that Lacey and Lance will do a really great Freestyle. Lacey’s experience on So You Think You Can Dance should allow her to create what I think could be the best Dancing with the Stars freestyle of all time. Plus, Lacey and Lance do have a pretty nice following too. However, my theory is that more women vote for their favorites and more women will like Derek and Brooke, the mom, than those women that will like the rebellious Lacey and Lance.

Warren and Kym are a wonderful couple. Kym is one of the most beautiful and creative dancers on the show. Warren is hilarious and I’ve loved him since I first saw him blow up an offensive line. However, I just don’t think they have the fan following that will get them the win. Plus, I’m almost certain that they’ll be at least a couple points behind the other 2 couples. Warren is amazing for a 300 pounder, but not anywhere near as refined as the other 2. I will love to see what type of lifts Warren does in the freestyle. Considering his strength and Kym’s slight frame, they could do some really amazing lifts. I expect Warren will throw her around like a little rag-a-doll.

Still don’t believe me. Then, look at the numbers from this season.
Couple – Average Score
Brooke & Derek – 26.5
Warren & Kym – 24.4
Lance & Lacey – 23.9

If you’re still not sure, just remember one final reason. Brooke choking last week is the biggest reason she’s going to win. Previously, her fans would have been lackadaisical and many wouldn’t have worried about voting. Her poor performance last week will inspire her fans to vote in enormous fashion.
