DWTS Karina Smirnoff, Sasha Farber, Anna Trebunskaya, And More To Dance In “Agent Carter” Season 2

Stay tuned for Episode 8 of “Agent Carter”. Entertainment Weekly is reporting Louis Van Amstel has choreographed a dance that will be featured. Not only that, several pros from Dancing With The Stars and other dancers will be performing. Read on for details. I don’t watch this show, but, I may have to watch this episode.

Here’s the deal: “Episode 8 ends with a cliffhanger where Peggy and Jarvis [James D’Arcy] get in big trouble and are knocked out,” executive producer Michele Fazekas tells EW. “Episode 9 begins with a dream sequence that starts in black and white — by the way, [Atwell] was made for black and white. She looks like Rita Hayworth. She looks spectacular.”

Then, in true Wizard of Oz fashion, everything goes into color, leading into a full-on Broadway musical dance number that features an original song from lyricist David Zippel and composer Christopher Lennertz, in conjuction with executive producers Tara Butters and Fazekas.

Choreographed by Dancing with the Stars’ Louis van Amstel, the sequence features a number of pros from DWTS, including van Amstel, Dmitry Chaplin, Karina Smirnoff, Anna Trebunskaya, Sasha Farber and Damian Whitewood. Dancers Robert Roldan, Malene Ostergaard, Amanda Balen, Serge Onik, Jenya Shatilova, Lacey Escabar, Alla Kocherga and Paul Kirkland also join them.

Dancing with the Stars Season 21, Week 7 – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Time for the long awaited team dances!! Whoo Hoo…kinda. Hoping it’s not too predictable. I mean, Val’s team has the dark, edgy song. How unique…only not. At all.

Who am I looking forward to? I’m hoping Bindi can pull of an AT with a bit of edge. I’m curious to see how an oft-used-for-a-Paso song fits with Nick and Sharna’s AT. Praying that Alexa does well with Mark’s Paso and that she’s safe this week…but at the same time, don’t really want to see Hayes go either. VERY curious to see if Val has fixed Tamar’s partnering problem in their foxtrot – that should have a lot of in-hold work and she tends to stiffen up when in hold. Now that they’re back to doing ballroom, I’m very curious to see if Andy’s streak of decent dancing holds up. NOT looking forward to Louis on All Access – way too b*tchy to most other than Val. Anyway…

T-minus 30 minutes…

Team dance started well and went rapidly downhill. Meh.

People won’t give Nick the “real”?? Hmmm…calm the ego, son.

Nick started kinda wonky but he got it together fairly quickly….they were hard on him for a reason though. He has a bit of a stiffness about him. Not bad though.

Up yer game, Hayes. You can do it!! Read more..

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 6 – Power Rankings

*slow clap* Great job on a completely un-fishy, totally coherent evening of scores and critiques, judges. No really, you really did well. *eye roll* This had to be one of the most ridiculous, incongruent, completely-out-of-left-field nights the judges have had in a LONG time.  I can think of two routines that were grossly overscored, and two or three that were underscored; I also feel like some couples got picked apart with a fine-toothed comb while others just got glossed over with praise and any mistakes completely disregarded. Only explanation I’ve got? Certain “chosen ones” are not getting the votes they need to stick around, and they need a boost; while some of the have-nots that shouldn’t be so popular (in their eyes) are just raking in the votes. Resist the urge to meddle, PTB – karma is a heinous bitch, and as we’ve seen…your actions can often have unintended consequences.

I kinda felt like something was amiss when they made a point of having Carrie Ann  spell out what the judges were looking for at the beginning of the show – it was almost as if they had been lurking in the comments here at Pure and saw what issues we had been discussing with regard to “Iconic Dance” week…y’know, the whole “where are they going to draw the line between staying faithful to a dance and actually doing the assigned dance style” issue. *waves* Keep lurkin’, guys – I’ve got so much more to say 😉 Also odd? Leah felt really clunky and awkward tonight – nothing like the smooth, at-ease Leah who cohosted a year ago when Erin had to cover the World Series. She was hilarious then – she was painful tonight. Bring back the Leah that was bopping Derek in the face with a microphone, PLEASE 😀

On a more positive note, I loved the opening number – hard to beat Karina channeling Flashdance, Derek channeling Singin’ in the Rain, and Keo doing his best MC Hammer – dare I say it’s a rather fitting role? Kind of a minor sensation, probably outlived his 15 minutes of fame, ridiculous outfits… Read more..

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Team Dances and Halloween….this seems verrrry familiar. Keep an eye out for Courtney announcing the teams later tonight. I expect she’ll stick a link in here when/if she finds out. I’m getting sicker by the minute so I’m going to bed shortly.

Very happy with Bindi’s dance – will be interesting to see if she can pull it off. Could be a challenge.

ETA: Teams for team dances are here. Can I sleep now? -Court-

ETA2: Got the other song for the team dance, and one of the team names.  A few other bits of intel over on the team dance post. Also hearing that there may be more than one Argentine tango this week…-Court-

ETA3: Scroll down for Team names and photos – guess who’s already in charge. 🙂 Also, according to their Afterbuzz interview, Val and Tamar have foxtrot but that may change, which could well be code for “They pick on Tamar when in hold so Imma change our dance.” ~Heidi

ETA4: Linday and Alek say they are dancing their V.Waltz to Haunted by Beyonce which is apparently a new song (from the 50 Shades soundtrack – Court). Oh, and Emma may not be available, although Alek has a crush on her. Hmmm… 🙂 Thanks to Jen for the heads up.

ETA5: Got Tamar & Val’s song – guess they are going for foxtrot after all. Carlos also shared on Instagram that he & Witney have paso doble. -Court-

ETA6: According to Mark’s instagram, they are doing a Paso to something from Edward Scissorhands. Scroll to the bottom for photo from Mark. 🙂 And then, George Pennachio stars spilling songs and dances. There’s likely a press release somewhere but I’m not Vogue. 🙂

ETA7: Very interesting that Carlos’ song is missing from Broadway World’s post…hmmm….but anyway, our source has the song below for him. 🙂

ETA8: Nick and Sharna are dancing first, according to George Pennachio and Bindi is sometime in the second hour. I’m sure there’s more, but I’m playing catch up here. Hayes and Emma are in the first hour. Interesting to see Carlos is last.

DWTS Season 21, Week 5 – Switch-Up Postmortem & POLL: How Did the Pros Handle the Switch?

So I came up with this idea while writing this week’s power rankings – since the rankings were basically an assessment of who is the least likely to the most likely to go home (and this week, it combined the scores from two weeks) , I felt like I still needed somewhere to discuss how well the couples actually handled the switch…without so much emphasis placed on points or eliminations. Especially because the scoring was kinda off on Monday night – I felt like there wasn’t necessarily a direct correlation between who scored the highest and who I would really call “successful” in the switch up.

This post is going to focus mainly on the pros and how well they handled things, but I will say a few words on the celebs first: with the exception of Tamar and Nick, I felt like all the celebs really embraced the switch with open arms, and were game for just about anything – which is good 🙂 I think flexibility and just “rolling with it” was the key to a successful switch partnership this time around.  As for Tamar & Nick – I feel like Tamar just tends to have walls up with just about everyone except close family, so she was maybe a tad resistant to the switch, as it meant having to connect with yet another person (after she admitted to only recently connecting with Val); Nick wasn’t necessarily resistant to the switch, but I think he may have written his switch partner off as not really invested and decided that he was going to drive the bus instead. Seemed like a bit of a power-struggle between he & Witney. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

So we’ve moved onto “Famous Dances” week, where the couples are supposedly going to be recreating “famous” dances from movies, musicals, music videos, etc. I’m predicting we see some repeats of songs we’ve already heard before on the show, and apparently Court is working on a post predicting some of them.

ETA: Judging from DancingABC’s latest Instagram post it looks like they’re STRONGLY hinting that Bindi got Dirty Dancing as her iconic dance.  In the past, it’s been used as a mambo (and it’s a mambo in the movie) – but then again, maybe it will get retooled as a jazz or something.  So mambo is just a guess on my part… -Court-

ETA2: Ugh. Judging from Carlos’ latest Instagram video it looks like he has *wretch* Magic Mike as his iconic dance.  Why do I feel like I would think this was lot less icky if it was someone other than Carlos doing it? Just one problem: as I recall, that song was Channing Tatum dancing solo for a room full of women, and ended up stripping down to a thong. And kneepads.  Where exactly does Witney fit into this? -Court-

ETA3: And then DancingABC continues with the painfully unsubtle, punny clues and pretty much confirms that Alek has Jailhouse Rock. Ok, I can be down with that – especially if they darken his hair up. -Court-

ETA4: According to Glamour, Nick has “You Should Be Dancing”, which is one of the songs I predicted might get reused in my prediction post.  So that’s (3) songs so far that have gotten repeated, and two of them (possibly 3) that could be wonky dance styles.  I am beginning to think we might be seeing some disco, hip-hop, and mambo this week…-Court-

ETA5: It would just about figure that the minute I get done updating, they release all the songs…anywho, a few thoughts: I’m thinking the bulk of these HAVE to be weird dance styles, i.e. hip-hop, jazz, disco, etc., and I’m hoping they give the couples a bit of a free pass…cause if everyone else has the freedom of doing jazz/hip-hop and couples like Alek & Lindsay and Hayes & Emma are stuck doing ballroom styles, I’m calling foul. -Court-

ETA6: According to Derek’s blog, Bindi has a rumba.  Hate to say this, but I’m getting I’m getting the same feeling I was for his “If I Could Turn Back Time” rumba with Amber – this song is wayyy too fast and energetic to be an effective rumba. -Court-

ETA7: So, our source has some of the dances and Derek/Bindi weren’t the only ones to get hosed. Get this – “Pony” is a rumba. WTF?? We confirmed Alexa’s Cha Cha and Alek’s Jive – he should be lucky they didn’t decide that was a rumba as well. Maybe only because he’s already done rumba. Ha. Someone has a Samba and all the rest are apparently Jazz. Bah humbug. Jazz on DWTS is code for “we’re going to let them do whatever they want and not call it contemporary.”  If I left the question mark after the dance style, that means I guessed. ~Heidi

ETA8: Back right away to update a bit more since Court tells me the only one who has already done Jazz is Nick, so he must be the samba. ~Heidi

ETA9: Okay, so apparently Carlos shirt comes off nearly immediately and his dance is exactly what you’d expect – bump and grind.  ~Heidi

ETA10: Our source says that Derek and Bindi’s “Rumba” is a rumba in name only and it uses a LOT of the choreo from the movie. It’s thought that it will be a crowd pleaser at any rate, as it is a true homage. A montage of memorable moments from the movie.  During rehearsal it was mentioned by Derek that it’s unusual that he can use so much of the choreo, that they had gotten the rights to use it. In the course of this conversation he confirmed that he was almost in the Dirty Dancing remake. This is what I’ve been telling people for YEARS. I knew from watching video of Derek’s interviews around the time that movie was shelved – it was obvious. Now it’s confirmed. 🙂 It’s pretty obvious to me that Kenny Ortega loves Derek and that’s why they can use so much of the choreo. They will probably get hosed (my opinion only), but our source thinks the crowd will love it. 🙂 Expect me to pitch a fit if and when they get hosed, since according to Derek’s blog they were directed to stick close to the original choreography. Getting to be a typical thing with this show – tell Derek what to do and then penalize him for it.

ETA11: Vogue here. According to Emma’s twitter, she and Hayes are dancing 1st tonight. Also, according to DancingABC (instagram below), there is an opening number tonight! Let’s hope it’s longer than 30 seconds.

ETA12: Full running order updated. -Court-

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 5 – Power Rankings

Well I gotta give TPTB some props – at least they managed to last through 4 weeks before kicking the manipulation machine into high gear. But man, did they overcompensate this week – aside from Paula still at the bottom and Bindi still at the top, the scoreboard got all shuffled up this week.  Alexa shot up from being 2nd from the bottom last week, to getting the high score this week and 4th place in combined scores; Carlos jumped from 5th place last week (and in jeopardy) to getting the 2nd highest score of the night and 2nd place with combined scores. Tamar went from being part of the 3-way tie for 2nd place, to being in 7th place after this week; and poor Alek, with two weeks worth of emotional trauma (and low-balled scores) under his belt, is now second to last. Andy managed to jump from 7th place last week to 5th this week, while going from straight 7’s and 8’s to straight 9’s.  I will credit SOME of this drastic shuffling to some people getting switch partners that were much better at harnessing their talents than their original pro, while some ended up with pros that were worse than their original partner. And for the love of Jeebus, judges – be a little more understanding that it’s switch week.  I get that you have an agenda, but it BLOWS MY MIND how you can talk about how the switch is so tough in one breath, and then dole out nitpicky critiques and lowballed scores in another. Thankfully, the double elim that we were hearing about for next week was a false alarm, and only one couple is going home next Monday – but last night’s scores do make me seriously wonder what the narrative is going to look like in the coming weeks.

I found myself agreeing with Maks far more than I thought I would – and I was particularly pleased that he finally called Allison out on her busy, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink choreography. Will be interesting to see if that comment is received the same way that Alfonso’s comment to Alexa was a few weeks back – although judging from Twitch’s twitter timeline, I’m guessing it’s not going to be received well. Also felt like Maks might have taken an interesting, subtle jab at the switch-up itself, when he told Tamar “You just got together this week, so you didn’t get to connect”. He wasn’t immune to the wonky-ness, though, and he gave a couple scores that made me raise an eyebrow. I do commend  him on giving more coherent critiques this time – overall, I’d give him an 8 out of 10.

Other observations? I am very aware that Nick is a Backstreet Boy – therefore, I do not need to to see Nick doing the “Backstreet’s Back” move every week to remind me. This is the 3rd time it’s gotten thrown into a routine, and twice was enough for me – find something else for this guy to do.  Was it just me, or did the first half of the show seem to be devoted to the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it boner joke? Caught at least 3 innuendo-y moments. Also wish they would have kept Tamar in the outfit she wore for the intro dance – she looked STUNNING, and then they put her in  that weird, feathery swan dress for her actual dance.  No me gusta.

Since this is a ranking of who I think is most likely to stay or go (based on this week’s scores and last week’s), I’m half-tempted to do a “switch-up postmortem” tomorrow where I actually rank how well I thought the pros handled the switch, and maybe throw in a poll to see how you guys felt about it, too…would that be something you’re interested in?
