Dancing with the Stars Season 24, Week 4 – Manipulation Mayhem

The last several seasons, you’ve heard Courtney and I complain ad nauseum about the ways that this show is manipulated. Sometimes subtly and other times very overtly. From lack of interviews with Erin, to lack of overall PR, to song/dance assignments, to the packages.  Most people don’t even notice it because the tendency in humans is to believe what they see – even when they should know better.

Ironically, when we have a Bachelor on the show is when I think to start this series – the Bachelor is probably the single most manipulated, produced, heavily edited (however you want to phrase it) show on television that is so-called “reality”.  Here is where I plug the show UNreal which is a take off on the Bachelor series and is a (supposedly fictionalized) scripted – more scripted – drama.  Fantastic series – I highly recommend it. Produced by a former Bachelor producer, it will REALLY make you think twice about how much you believe on DWTS or any other reality show. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing With The Stars Tom Bergeron Interviewed On Disney Night, Theme Weeks, And More

Tom Bergeron is excited for Disney Night on Dancing With The Stars since Donny Osmond and Auli’i Cravalho are performing. He’s also excited Alfonso Ribiero doing a performance as well. More below including his thought of other theme ideas and his tricky silence on his pick to win (lol). From TV Guide….

My frontrunner seems to change every week, I think this is one of the seasons with the most parity. Who is your current pick to win it all?

Bergeron: Yes.

Who is it?

Bergeron: I’m not gonna tell ya. I’ll make a promise, I’ll tell you after the season if they win and I was right. [Laughs.]

Disney Night on Monday! What should we be excited for?

Bergeron: I’m very excited about the young actress — I actually saw her teach Dwayne Johnson how to say her name. It’s Auli’i Cravalho. I thought not only is she wonderful in Moana, she blew it out of the water at the Oscars. So I’m excited about seeing her. Donny Osmond is coming back, we’ll have Alfonso [Ribiero] do a number with the cast off the top, former champion himself. Inevitably one of the things I love about, I get to interact with animation as well as Bruno. [Laughs.] I once told Bruno on air he’s about half a jester away from living in Pixar.

With the ABC/Disney synergy going on, there’s some great opportunities for other themed nights. I’d love to see a Marvel night, or a Star Wars night, do you think they’d be a good fit for Dancing with the Stars?

Bergeron: I know I’d love to see it as well. I don’t see any reason why the Hulk and Thor couldn’t promote their next movie by doing a Paso Doble!

Lots more at TV Guide including an update on Maks Chmerkovskiy and more.

DWTS Season 24, Week FOUR – Dancing by the Numbers!

Yeah, still thinking Erika. 🙂

My track record isn’t so good so far though. Ah well, some seasons you got it and other seasons you don’t.

I didn’t see anything to be terribly outraged over this past Monday. Funny that our big ringers pretty much leave me cold. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that both are dancing with Chmerkovskiys. They just kinda fail to really show their partners in a positive light. Too much talking, walking and not doing the assigned style. Val is doing a better job than Alan/Maks is, but really dude – STFU and let Normani have her moment.

Anyway, let’s get to our scores. Read more..

Dancing With The Stars Nick Viall And Peta Murgatroyd Interviewed On Access Hollywood Live

Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd were on Access Hollywood Live today. Nick talks of how hard dancing was at first and now he’s getting the hang of it. He also says Peta makes him work hard and Vanessa supports him. Peta also gives an update on Baby Shai and Maks (it could still be a week or two before he returns). Lots more below. Great interview!

Dancing with the Stars Season 24, Week FIVE – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Disney week again – will be interesting to see if there’s any repeats from previous seasons, since is the 4th time they’ve done Disney.  I also anticipate some dance styles not really matching up with the songs they’re assigned to…guess we can look forward to a certain former pro throwing more shade at the current pros on Twitter *eye roll*…

ETA: According to a new Rehearsal Interview, Val and Normani have a Paso Doble for their Disney dance. More hints HERE. ~Vogue

ETA: Via ABC and Broadway World, the dances and songs are all listed below. Note that Donny Osmond, ZZ Ward, and Auli‘i Cravalho are performing LIVE. Also, Witney Carson teams with Donald Duck for a special dance. ~Vogue

ETA3: Dance order per George P. – Nick gets hosed yet again. Either he’s not getting the votes or they don’t want him to get the votes. Hard to say which at this point. Erika is in an even worse spot. Good on Rashad and Simone opening and closing the show. We’ll see if Rashad gets the most airtime. 😉

PureDWTS Season 24 Week 4 – Media, Interviews, Scores, Week 5 Hints, And More

What a night on Dancing With The Stars. The couples were all so good. I usually have an idea who might win the season by now, but, not this time? Unreal. 😯 If you’d like to relive the dances again, see Idolxfactor’s New Tumbler Page (these videos work Internationally) or the official Dancing With The Stars You Tube.

So, let’s review the scores again. I have to say…. I was so happy for Rashad and Emma receiving almost all 10’s last night….

Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater: Scores of 10-9-10-10 from the judges for a total of 39.
Simone Biles and Sasha Farber: Scores of 9-9-9-9 from the judges for a total of 36.
Heather Morris and Alan: Scores of 8-9-9-9 from the judges for a total of 35.
Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev: Scores of 8-9-8-8 from the judges for a total of 33.
Bonner Bolton and Sharna Burgess: Scores of 8-8-8-8 from the judges for a total of 32.
Normani Kordei and Valentin Chmerkovskiy: Scores of 8-7-8-9 from the judges for a total of 32.
David Ross and Lindsay Arnold: Scores of 7-8-8-8 from the judges for a total of 31.
Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd: Scores of 8-7-8-7 from the judges for a total of 30.
Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko: Scores of 8-7-7-8 from the judges for a total of 30.
Mr. T and Kym Herjavec: Scores of 7-7-7-7 from the judges for a total of 28. (Eliminated)

For media starters, see People for all of their recaps and interviews and keep checking the link through out the day. ET also has a recap and a few interviews.

Glamour doesn’t have any new information on next week, but, I loved this bit on Mr. T for what happened last week. So deserving. I’m going to miss him and Kym….

After a tear-soaked couple of hours, Tom Bergeron delivered the tough news that Mr. T would be leaving the competition. While Mr. T certainly wasn’t a strong dancer by any means, he had captured the hearts of millions and was probably the most beloved contestant I’ve seen on this show in my eight seasons of covering it. In fact, last week the crew gave him a personalized “The People’s Trophy” after all the other contestants had gone home. Mr. T posed with every single member of the crew and gave them more in return than they could have ever expected. I’ve never seen grown men so excited to be around any celebrity, and goodness knows this show has seen a lot of them.

More at Glamour and note that it’s Disney Week next (in case you missed this info on the show last night).

Fox411 interviewed Erika Jayne after she danced.

Jayne continued to flaunt her sexiness on Monday night’s fourth week of “DWTS” competition, earning a score of 30 out of 40 with partner Gleb Savchenko for a cha cha tribute to Madonna’s “Express Yourself.”

Hers was one of the lowest scores of the night and Judge Len Goodman sighed that Jayne’s dance was “same old, same old. You go down that sexy route.” (She wound up in the bottom two with Mr. T, but “The A-Team star was the one eliminated on Monday).

Jayne was undeterred, telling FOX411, “I performed my ass off and will continue to do so next week. Whatever happens, happens. Let the chips fall where they may.”

She said of her over-the-top sexy style, “Some people love it, some people don’t, and that’s their choice.”

Fox411 also talked with the other couples. Here’s a take with Rashad which is making me cry again. Read more..

DWTS Season 24, WEEK FOUR – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Most Memorable Year…usually the night of rumba and (poorly done) contemporary. Be sure to check the “Who’s Dancing” post as the running order has been updated…and it ain’t lookin’ good for Nick, dang it. Not sure what they have against him.

Oh and CAI said she wants me to come on DWTS and dance with her. LOL. I think she really wants Derek and got me by mistake. 😉

Okay, these intros are SOOO scripted it ain’t even funny. I think it was Normani and Nick that gave it away – neither are actors so there you go. Read more..
