PureDWTS Maks Chmerkovskiy And Melissa Gilbert “The Dancing Underdogs” (Video)

On he and Melissa’s dances tonight which includes his brother Val, Maks tells Good Morning America, “I think we’re going to be great, I think we’re going to be fun and entertaining.” Maks is so proud of Melissa making it this far on Dancing With The Stars being it’s so physically demanding. Melissa has nothing, but, good things to say about her partner calling “sweet”, “protective”, and “caring”. He also has the “best ….” ehum. lol Note: it’s Melissa’s birthday Tuesday and she hopes she won’t be eliminated. More below in a take from the link. You can watch the interview in a video below courtesy of Good Morning America.

“I’m very proud of her, I really am, especially with us trying to stay entertaining, it’s physically very hard,” he told Rycroft.

Getting the routines down requires a lot of work, and during the vignettes of the pair practicing that air before each performance, Chmerkovskiy has appeared to be a tough taskmaster.

Asked what he was like the rest of the time that the public didn’t see, Gilbert replied: “He’s really sweet and he’s really got a big heart and he’s very protective of me and he’s very caring.”

Chmerkovskiy reminded her he had “an amazing ass,” and she agreed.

Tonight they will face a new challenge: Each of the six remaining couples will be paired with a pro who has already been voted off this season. Gilbert and Chmerkovskiy will dance a samba, and they’ll be joined by his younger brother, Val.

“I think we’re going to be great, I think we’re going to be fun and entertaining,” Chmerkovskiy said.

Gilbert says she’s not ready to go home yet, and sent a message for all the fans who’ve kept her in the competition: “Just keep doing whatever you’re doing, we’re working really hard to earn all of your hard work.”

“It’s my birthday on Tuesday and I don’t want to get eliminated on my birthday,” she said.

UPDATE: Melissa has written a new blog at People. Here is a take from the link on their dances tonight. Be sure to see the link for a funny story for happened to her yesterday.

Our dances this week are a lot of fun. First I have a fox trot with Maks to “Maggie May” by Rod Stewart. Our story for the dance follows the lyrics: nasty cougar takes advantage of sweet, studious young man. There might even be a little kiss in their somewhere.

Our second dance is the samba. There is a twist, though. Each couple got to pick an eliminated pro or troupe member to dance with them. Since Maks and I were at the bottom of the leader board, we got to pick first. Of course we chose Val! So, once again I’m the middle of the Chmerkovskiy sandwich. It doesn’t suck to be me!

DWTS Season 14, Weeks 5 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

Ta DA!! We’re in catch up mode. 🙂

First – WEEK 5

The “Can’t Carry a Tune in a Bucket” Award: Len and Bruno, for their rendition of either “Maria” or “How Do you Solve a Problem Like Maria”…we can’t be sure. 🙂

Heidi: So, the first time I saw it, I thought they were doing a little West Side Story…the second time I saw it, I’m honestly not sure. Don’t quit your day job, boys…if I can’t tell what you’re going for, you can’t sing. 🙂  If I had to bet, I would call Len Sound of Music and Bruno West Side Story. 🙂

Courtney: Screw musicals…I think we’re giving them too much credit there.  I think they both were just making it up as they went along and just hoping that that the audience was even less educated than they were and would just assume that they were singing a legitimate song…and the fact that they were both doing it might somehow lend creedence to their made-up tune.  Whatever it was…it was dumb.

Brooke Burke Flub O’the Night: “We’ve combined your jokes with the judges scores…”

Heidi: Have you heard the one about the judge who walked into the bar?? He tried to give the barmaid a “10” and….well, I can’t think of a good joke. But does one really need one when Brooke is around? 🙂 In all fairness, she’s been better this season than previously, but her occasional tongue tripping can be entertaining.

Courtney: My aunt used to have this parrot named Joey that would repeat literally ANY word it heard – but it would do it at random times, and sometimes form sentences that weren’t quite coherent, contextually.  I’m beginning to think that Brooke is the reincarnation of Joey, the way she will occasionally swap out the word she intends to use with one she has just heard or thought about 🙂 If so, I fully expect her to start making the skud missile sound effect and start calling people SOB’s by season’s end…can’t wait 😉

The Award for Best Reaction to being Called Safe: Melissa Gilbert – Half-Pint CUSSED!!!! 🙂

Heidi: Hehehehe…loved it. Sweet, quiet Melissa gets bleeped on live television. You go girl. You really CAN take the Prairie out of the girl. 😉

Courtney: And it was a LOOOONG cuss – like a full 5 seconds of the sound being completely bleeped out.  I can only imagine what is was she said…whatever it was, I’m sure I’d be proud 😉 Read more..

Major Switcharoo For Dancing With The Stars Season 14 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 8

Las Vegas Sports Betting has posted their new odds for Dancing With The Stars. What another difference one week of dances can make compared to last week’s odds!! Maria’s numbers have risen and rightfully so. For the first time, she’s placing higher than William Levy. Donald Driver and Katherine Jenkins continue to be neck and neck for first. I felt a lump in my heart when reading how they’ve put Roshon Fegan in last and at such low odds. He’s tons better than Melissa Gilbert. Do the odds makers even watch this show? 😐

New Las Vegas Odds for this week:

Katherine Jenkins 9/5
Donald Driver 19/10
Maria Menounos 3/1
William Levy 7/2
Melissa Gilbert 60/1
Roshon Fegan 75/1

Last week’s Las Vegas Odds:

Katherine Jenkins 7/4
Donald Driver 19/10
William Levy 11/4
Maria Menounos 15/2
Jaleel White 12/1
Roshon Fegan 50/1
Melissa Gilbert 50/1

As in previous week’s and to help us/me understand it better, lets get Miss Heidi and Courtney’s thoughts and reaction and be sure to tell us yours too in the comments section.

Heidi: So, basically, all it takes is one dance?? I mean, I would love for it to be true…but it was ONE dance. Yeah, I think Maria is better than William…I think ROSHON is better than William…but if all it takes is a perfect 30 to move you up the Vegas odds?  Well, I kinda think that shows how little these guys know about DWTS.  The judges will probably be handing out 10’s to William and Katherine this week and the will be the end of that.  Yep…I’m still cynical. I don’t expect it to go away any time soon. 🙂

Courtney: I think the oddsmakers also tend to disregard that it was a good dance during a week where everyone else just did okay-to-marginal – it puts things in perspective a bit when you realize that Maria didn’t really have anyone nipping at her heels this week, and it was likely due to almost everyone getting shafted to a certain degree by their music choice.  As much as I think it SUCKS that Roshon has such astronomical odds to overcome, I do think the oddsmakers are about on the money there – he’s the only remaining contestant that has been in the bottom 2 (and he’s been there three times), and he’s really only still here because of the dance duel.  I guess Melissa’s odds are slightly better due to the fact that she’s never been in the bottom 2, despite her scores – but I don’t think she really stands a snowball’s chance in hell of actually winning, as I don’t see her suddenly giving 10-worthy performances…and man (and woman) cannot win on votes alone.

Chris Brown, A Dick Clark Tribute, and More To Entertain On Dancing With The Stars

ABC Media Net has released details for next week’s dances and judging. Details below as well as who will be singing and dancing in the pro numbers.

“Episode 1408 & 1408A” – The competition heats up as the remaining six couples hit the ballroom with two rounds of competitive dance performances, a ballroom dance and the Trio dance — both of which will be a style that they’ve not yet performed, MONDAY, MAY 7 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC. During the Trio dance, a “DWTS” first, each couple will be allowed to add an extra professional dancer to their routine. The second dancer will be chosen from a pool of eliminated pros and members of The Troupe. In addition to their regular criteria for judging dance routines, the judges will pay extra attention to how well each celebrity is showcased in the performance with an extra dancer in the mix.

Grammy Award winner Chris Brown takes to the stage with an incredible performance of his hit song “Turn Up the Music,” on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show,” TUESDAY, MAY 8 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC. “Turn Up the Music,” written and produced by The Underdogs and Fuego, is Brown’s first single off his eagerly anticipated new album, “Fortune,” which releases May 8th.

Also during Tuesday night’s show, Dmitry Chaplin and Anya Garnis will perform a special routine from the “Dancing with the Stars Live in Las Vegas Show” to “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” “Macy’s Stars of Dance” will be an “American Bandstand” tribute to the legendary Dick Clark. The performance will be a huge dance number featuring pro dancers Karina Smirnoff, Tony Dovolani and the Troupe, choreographed by Jamal Sims and Wendy Johnson, and will pay homage to “American Bandstand,” representing four decades of the popular music show, with many of the original “Bandstand” regulars joining us in the audience.

By Tuesday evening’s end, two couples will be eliminated, as determined by a combination of the judges’ scores and viewers’ votes on dances performed on Monday’s performance show.

Wow, “A Dick Clark” Tribute…sounds really cool!! I loved American Bandstand. I use to watch it just for the dancing every week.

DWTS Season 14, Week 8 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?

We’re doing the Who’s Dancing What post a bit earlier this week since there is so much info coming out on the dances, including which TWO dances the couples do, and who they might have as their extra Pro in a first ever “latin trio dance”. Most of you already know my thoughts on this so I won’t expound on it again. 🙂

My predictions thus far for the week? Katherine will be at the top of the leader board once again as she’s got the easiest set of dances of those revealed so far. The only question in my mind is: will they start “Ralphing” Maria this week or next (provided she makes it through)?? You know they are going to probably harsh on Melissa and Roshon…but will they include Maria in their little quest to ensure a top 3 of Donald/Katherine/William?? You know they will going into the final if she’s still there. Heaven help Melissa if she makes it through. Yikes. I hate that I’m getting so cynical about this show, but this seems to be a pattern that has been building over the last couple seasons – since Ralph’s season, actually. In my quest to re-watch all seasons to do a series on judges scoring, I had gotten all the way through season 8…and seasons 10, 11, 12 and 13 are pretty fresh…and I just don’t think there was as much of an agenda until we got to Ralph’s season. And this season it seems worse than ever; but maybe that is compounded by the dance duel. It just seems more…blatant.

Anyway, here’s what we know so far:

ETA1: William mentions in a new interview that Vogue will be putting up shortly, that their trio partner is MALE and that the 3rd person is required to dance at least 20% of the time. Lovely.

ETA 2: Mark thinks he’s clever. He’s not. (See Mark’s most recent blog if you don’t know what I’m talking about.)

ETA 3: This update is based on DMs between dancers and fans…and some other random tweets of Troupers suddenly doing a bit of celeb pimping. Since we’re not technically SURE, you’ll see question marks. Tony is placed through the process of elimination. If we manage to confirm any of these, we’ll remove the question marks. Also, one of the judging criteria, as many of you know from reading the press release that Vogue posted, is how well they manage to showcase the celebrity.

ETA 4: In a move that surprises exactly NO ONE, TPTBWTHUCA have put William dancing 6th and Last. Because heaven knows, we can’t have William being forgotten by putting him NOT in a great running order, regardless of whether it really matters at this point or not. The only question that remains is…how far are the judges willing to go to make sure he’s in the final four??

ETA 5: Wow, I called Mark and Katherine right – but then how hard is it?? They always put her in the middle of the pack. Not sure what kind of sign that is. And this came across my tweetdeck (and was mentioned by someone in the comments as well) – ABC/Univision teaming for News Network in English. Well, well – isn’t that interesting??  I especially like this line near the end of the article:

Although the content is still being determined, the networks said that lifestyle and entertainment programming will be included along with news.

And then there’s this little gem:

Disney and ABC Television Group chairwoman Anne Sweeney say the venture is an important step in broadening ABC’s reach.

There is always a method to the madness. 😀

ETA: Melissa and Maks dancing 3rd and 9th…which probably means that Maria and Melissa are in the worst possible positions of the night, provided that it still matters at this point. If Maria is second, I expect her to get hosed on scores and for Roshon to have a come back…which might just lend credence to the conspiracy theory that he was just being used to get rid of “lesser dancers” in the dance duels. Watch the judges scores to see. Hope I’m wrong. If Roshon falls from second place into the bottom two, that’s the way it goes.

DWTS Season 14 Stats Class: Weeks 4 thru 7 Scorecard

So here we are… we are now officially through “two-thirds” of the season and I’ve been updating and cleaning up my spreadsheet, so that way I could create graphs for you to see how the predicted scores compared with the actual scores of the celebrities that have left us since Week 4 (eventually I’ll update the previous scorecard to include graphs for the first few weeks of the season).

In case you have forgotten from the last time, the initials “P – A – D” are simply:
– Predicted: this is the original calculated predicted scores
– Actual: this is the score that the celeb/pro pairing actually received on the show
– Difference: is the point difference between the predicted and actual scores

So if you would recall from Week 4:

I mentioned that there was a 2 point difference with some scores being close/spot on versus scores that were way off. For three weeks Katherine/Mark was getting the largest score difference (5 – 5 – 6) and now they have virtually none.

So far Gavin seems the most steady to history with another zero (0) point difference week.

There also seems to be a shift happening with the largest point difference:
– Roshon/Chelsie: 5 points
– Donald/Peta: 4 points

Did this affect standings of the couples that were in danger on Week 4? Well it depends on how you look at it. Roshon/Chelsie had a massive point difference and they were in the Bottom Two. While Sherri/Val had the average point difference of two and they were sent packing.

Speaking of Sherri, let’s look at how her actual scores on the show compared with the predicted scores over the four weeks she was on the show:

My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)
