Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovksiy are to perform at a New York City Charity Skating With The Stars Gala! Below is more information on the event. For tickets, see Figure Skating Harlem or call (646) 679-3765. Thanks to Jennifer for the heads up!

FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM CELEBRATES 18 YEARS OF
EMPOWERING NYC GIRLS BY HONORING GLORIA STEINEM AT
10TH ANNUAL SKATING WITH THE STARS GALA
ON MONDAY APRIL 13, 2015
Event to feature performances by Dancing with the Stars’ Mirror Ball Champions
Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

(New York, NY) December, 2014 — Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) will honor women’s rights champion Gloria Steinem, Olympic Gold Medalist Evan Lysacek, and Feld Entertainment’s Nicole, Alana, and Juliette Feld at its 10th Annual Skating with the Stars Gala. The benefit event will move from the ice to the dance floor this year and be held at 583 Park Avenue on Monday, April 13, 2015, at 6:00pm. The evening will celebrate Figure Skating in Harlem’s one-of-a-kind education, health, and fitness programs for underserved girls while offering guests the rare opportunity to dance and mingle with some of the country’s great Olympic figure skaters including Sasha Cohen, Gracie Gold, Scott Hamilton, Michelle Kwan, and Kristi Yamaguchi. As a special treat, guests will enjoy performances by Dancing with the Stars’ Mirror Ball Champions Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Andy Cohen, Jessye Norman, Alicia Quarles, and Tamara Tunie (FSH Chair Emerita) will serve as this year’s Honorary Chairs; Celia Chou, Tracie and Scott Hamilton, Ellen Lowey, Tina and Terry Lundgren, Diana Taylor, and Vera Wang are among the Event Chairs.

“This unique evening brings together New Yorkers who believe in the importance of empowering girls to become strong leaders through a combination of sports, arts, and education. Honoring a trailblazer like Gloria Steinem is a perfect fit. She is known for her work with prominent African-American women who together knocked down barriers and opened doors for generations of girls like ours to reach their full potential,” said Sharon Cohen, Founder of Figure Skating in Harlem and a 2014 CNN Hero.

Now in its 18th year, Figure Skating in Harlem remains the first and only organization in the country that combines the power of education with the grace and discipline of figure skating to transform the lives of underserved girls. Through its unique programming, FSH provides NYC girls with innovative skating and education programs that promote academic success, physical health, and emotional well-being. Recent graduates of the program have gone on to Brown University, Howard University, Boston College, and others. The proceeds from this year’s gala will help launch a new STEM program and implement a plan for expansion beyond New York. FSH envisions taking its model program national by its 20th anniversary.

Sponsors of the Skating with the Stars Gala include Amway, Estee Lauder, Macy’s and Bloomingdales, and Consolidated Edison, among others. Tickets to the gala, which include cocktails, dinner, and dancing, start at $1,250. Sponsorship packages start at $5,000. All tickets are available online at www.figureskatinginharlem.org or by calling (646) 679-3765.

PureDWTS Watchout: Curiosity And Dreams Never Hurt Anyone

Just some random twitter pics and instagrams peaking my curiosity today. Not that they mean anything, but, hey, just a small ‘just in case’…especially for the future. Yes, I’m desperate, but, they are cool pics never the less, right?

First up, Gleb Savchenko gives Carly Steel an Argentinian Tango lesson. Why? Not sure, but, wouldn’t she be a cool get for Dancing With The Stars now or in the future ….and with Gleb?!

GlebSavchenkoCarlySteel

Next, Karina posted this instagram saying, “Well, now that we know @ShemarfMoore can do lifts, who wants to see him on the next season of @dancingabc ?”. Mmmm yes, Karina. A Hot “young and the restless” thought in fact!! 😀

Lastly, our beautiful Sharna Burgess posted this instagram last night with the quote: @celebrityblackcardllc at our @dancingabc gifting suite last season! Looking forward to an amazing season 19!!! #dwts Hmmmm….this is killing me softly, but, it’s ok. ADDING: and speaking of Sharna, is it not awesome Charlie White and Meryl Davis asked her to choreograph a new ice routine for them?! Like when they asked Derek, they know talent when they see it, don’t they?!

So, have you seen anything out there peaking your curiosity? If so, tell us in comments and let us know what you think as always.

That’s all for now. Have a fabulous weekend. xx

DWTS Maksim Chmerkovksiy Says He’s “Done Dancing” On The View

Val and Maksim Chmerkovksiy were on The View today. One of the things that Maks mentions is that he’s done dancing on Dancing With The Stars. He said, “When I came back to the show, it was not the same. I was different, probably. When I came back, I saw this amazing talent, Val [Chmerkovskiy, his brother] included. I looked at it and thought they can do much more and better, I was taking up a huge spot.” Thanks to The Wrap, here is some video. The Wrap also included this quote…

At the end of the episode, moderator-for-a-day Jenny McCarthy clarified that although Maks is not going to come back as a pro dancer, but he may return in some capacity at a later date. That can be translated as “judge,” but we don’t know for sure.

I don’t mind if he comes back as a judge once…just please, don’t let it be full time. I like the judging panel just as it is.

ETA: So, Andy Cohen interviewed Maks on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens LIVE” while Joan Rivers sits in. He talks on more of the same on Dancing With The Stars. And did you know that Kirstie Alley isn’t speaking to him? Interesting. And again, they have to ask on his relationship with Meryl and J Lo.

ETA2: Interesting….Maks has signed with a different agency. You can read about it at Hollywood Reporter. Thanks to Ashley for the heads up.

Dancing With the Stars’ Maksim Chmerkovskiy has signed with ICM Partners, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.

On July 29 he announced on The View that he would not return for DWTS’ 19th season. His signing with a major agency (he previously was with Rebel Entertainment Partners) signals that he is ready to parlay his DWTS fame into further opportunities.

Glamour Talks to New DWTS Executive Producer Rob Wade

I love Jessica, but she’s all about the ship at times. Dancing? Not so much. 🙂 Anyway, she interviews Rob and the other producers at TCA last night and then hit the jackpot when Tom Bergeron showed up to give his thoughts. We can always count on The Berge. 🙂 From Glamour.com:

Glamour: Where are you in terms of casting for the new season?
Joe Sungkur: At the moment, we’re in our early days, but there’s a lot of people we’re talking to…
Ashley Edens-Shaffer: But obviously we can’t say!
Glamour: When will the new cast be announced?
Ashley: That hasn’t been announced.
Glamour: I know, that’s why I’m asking. [Laughs
Ashley: We’re not allowed to say yet.
[Ed. Note: Because DWTS premieres a week earlier than usual this year, expect a cast announcement sometime in mid-late August.]

Glamour: Which of the cast members from last season most surprised you?

Joe: That’s an obvious one: Amy Purdy.
Ashley: Yes, Amy Purdy.
Rob: Amy Purdy.

Glamour: In the finale last season, Len Goodman hinted that he may not be returning, but then when I saw him backstage, he said, “Oh, no, I’ll be back!” So, will Len be back, as well as Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli?
Rob: Absolutely. We want all of the judges back.
Glamour: But it’s not a done deal at the moment?
Rob: We’re talking at the moment because we’re in the off-season, but I’m very confident that they’ll be back. As well as the host! Oh hi, Tom Bergeron!
Tom Bergeron: What a surprise!

Glamour: You’ve gone on the record saying that you thought Maks and Meryl had more of a brother/sister relationship. Fans do not like to hear that!
Tom: I’ve been ridiculed on social media for it! I’ve seen some great tweets saying, “That’s not like any family reunion I’ve been to!” But I never saw it as a romantic affection. I saw it as a very real affection, and I thought it brought out a side of Maks that I had seen backstage, but he had never allowed himself to be vulnerable on the air before. I thought that was charming, and it couldn’t have ended better. On a year when you watched a woman who had no legs absolutely mesmerize you, and Derek working with her—he’s like our Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire—but when you have that, and then Maks and Meryl… Wow.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
