Dancing With The Stars Season 20 Premiere Date Set, ABC President Paul Lee Calls The Show “A Powerhouse”

It’s official! The premiere date for Dancing With The Stars Season 20 has been set for March 16th. Here is more from ABC Media net. Adding: As Kristyn Burtt said at twitter, this news also confirms no “all-star” season…

ABC today announced the premiere dates for the 10 year anniversary edition of “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, MARCH 16 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET), and a special 25th anniversary episode of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15 (7:00-8:00 p.m., ET).

“Dancing With the Stars” returns for its 20th season with an all-new celebrity cast– to be announced at a later date — who will brave the dance floor for the first time. Each week, these celebrities will leave their comfort zones and endure hours of grueling rehearsals to master technical choreography and entertaining performances. In the end, only one star will rise above the rest to be crowned champion and win the coveted mirror-ball trophy.

Hosted by Emmy® Award-winning Tom Bergeron (“America’s Funniest Home Videos”) and Erin Andrews, “Dancing with the Stars” is the hit series in which celebrities perform choreographed dance routines judged by renowned ballroom judge Len Goodman and dancer/choreographers Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Julianne Hough.

Also, at the Television Critics Association conference today, ABC President Paul Lee said ABC is thrilled with how they’ve sustained “Dancing with the Stars,” calling it a powerhouse. To read a live blog of the conference going down, see Hit Flix and TV Line.

ABC President Paul Lee Speaks About Dancing With The Stars At TV Critics Press Tour

The TV Critics Association Press Tour is taking place this week – today is Disney/ABC day. ABC President PauL Lee answered questions on Dancing With The Stars. Here’s what we’ve gathered at twitter….

1. Speaking on the All Stars, Lee said, “It turns out that people want to see bad dancing as much as they do good dancing.”” ( via TV Critic Chuck Barney)

2. At this time, ABC still plans on Spring and Fall airings of Dancing With The Stars. “There’s a lot of life left in the show” (via Diane Gordon and TV Guide).

When we know more, we’ll be sure to update this post.

Thanks to Miss Heidi for her help!! Here she is with more…

Heidi: Can I just say “Duh”?  😀 As someone else commented on twitter, they aren’t going to cut down on a show that is still scoring 16 million viewers in this day and age. No way.  TV Line has a bit more of the quote:

Falling under the “lot to do” part of that statement:

* The lackluster ratings for the all-star edition ofDancing With the Stars. “Turns out people want to see bad dancing as much as they want to see good dancing,” Lee deduced, later adding, “We still intend to keep it going twice a year. It’s still a big, broad crowd pleaser. We think there’s a lot of life left in it.”

ABC Entertainment Group President Talks About DWTS At TCA Winter Press Tour

Today, Paul Lee, ABC Entertainment Group president, told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Dancing With The Stars “refreshes itself” depending on it’s “casting” which isn’t always consistent. Below is more from the Hollywood Reporter. Be sure to read the link for the full story.

“Obviously each year the casting kind of tells you where it [will] come out,” said Lee. “We thought we started with a weaker cast this year, and then look what J.R. [Martinez] did.”

The biggest unknown of the cast did go on to win the Season 13 trophy and has since enjoyed a healthy run in the media spotlight by the show’s standards. It’s that kind of surprise, Lee noted, and the different types of “star” that can win favor with viewers that has kept the network invested in the series.

“Sometimes its controversial, like Bristol Palin, sometimes it’s somebody who brings a nostalgic element,” said Lee, “and sometimes its someone people just love — like Kirstie Alley.”

So many seasons in, Lee also tried to convince the crowd to have some perspective on the type of talent they’re able to recruit.

“When you look back at the early seasons,” said the level of celebrity isn’t what it is now.”

It’s true in my opinion. Being inconsistent has a way of keeping things very interesting which makes a person wonder on the new cast for Season 14, doesn’t it?

Pure DWTS – ‘Come On Everyone, Let’s Dance’ Media

Just a few things to share with you today. First of all and drum rolls please, “Dancing With The Stars” has been nominated for NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Reality Series” along with American Idol, America’s Next Top Model, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and Sunday Best. You can cast your vote (you have to be a NAACP Member or become one) HERE. The 42nd NAACP Image Awards will take place and air on FOX March 4th.

Speaking of award shows, Julianne Hough has been pictured at a Golden Globe pre-party this week. I wonder if we’ll ever see her dance on the show again now that she’s hit movie and music stardom? I hope so. The Golden Globes are taking place on Sunday on NBC. Maybe she will grace the Red Carpet with Ryan Seacrest on one arm and Derek on the other? 🙂

My google alerts have been filled with the US press finally catching the news that Maks is filming The Bachelor in the Ukraine which he announced last month. It’s funny how they are slow to catch on to this news. Erin Andrews said the same in this new interview on Access Hollywood. lol She also talks about her and Maks’ friendship and you can see a few of the clips of him om the show.

DWTS – Dancing With The Stars Officially Renewed For New Season

The ABC television network officially announced the early renewal of six TV series as well as “Dancing with the Stars” today. According to the Hollywood Reporter, President Paul Lee expressed his ambition for ABC to become a place that embraces the showrunner culture calling the network a “brand that combines smart with heart”.

Along with “Dancing With The Stars”, the Emmy Award-winning show “Modern Family” will return for a third season and as well as the top-rated medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”. “Cougar Town”, “The Middle”, “Castle”, and “Private Practice” were also renewed. Salma Hayek will executive produce an eight-hour mini-series based on the book “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” which inspired the Tony Award-winning Broadway play. Lee also hopes to take advantage of parent Disney’s new ownership of Marvel Entertainment, developing a remake of “The Hulk”. Speaking of “Dancing With The Stars” exclusively, here is what Lee explained to a reporter(who asks dumb questions, lol).

Of course, unscripted has done heavy lifting for ABC so far this season with Wipeout and Dancing with the Stars – featuring the controversial Bristol Palin – far out-rating any of ABC’s new programs.

Asked if he was tempted to recruit Palin – who has also appeared on the ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager – for another ABC property, Lee demurred; “I haven’t thought about that.”

But he acknowledged that casting is key on Dancing, which is expected to be back in March and has yet to reveal its new season cast.

“We won’t have Bristol Palin,” he said. “We will have something different.”

Watching the show himself, Zap2it also reports Lee said this…

Lee is a fan of “Glee” and “The Good Wife” and thinks they could work on ABC. He also loves “Dancing With the Stars.” Watching the show in person, he says, is like “going to the circus.”

So, that is it for now. Still no official date as for when Season 12 will premiere. But, March 21st is a very strong possibility according to rumors going around currently.
