PureDWTS Season 18 End-of-Season Awards – Which Song Choice Was the Worst?

So you’ve seen the results for the best guest judge voting – now onto the results for the crappiest song of the season!!!
worstsongchoice

Write-in votes:

“All of Me” by John Legend (Meryl’s foxtrot) – 2

“Girl” by Pharrell (Amy & Mark’s salsa) – 1

“Can’t Remember to Forget You” by Shakira feat. Rihanna (Nene’s Argentine tango) – 1

“Dare You” by Hardwell (Amy’s freestyle) – 1

“Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers (James’ rumba) – 1

Votes omitted due to failure to follow the format – 2

Courtney: The two songs I thought would garner the most votes, did – and while “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems” probably didn’t do Charlie any favors…it actually started to grow on me after a second viewing 😛 Maybe it was just the enthusiasm with which he attacked it, but he made the most of a crummy song.  The same cannot be said for “I Luh Ya Papi” – which the two couples dancing to clearly disliked as much as we did.  It drives me nuts when J. Lo does songs like these – they just make her sound downright unintelligent, and make it seem like she’s trying to remind everyone that she’s hip and has chola street cred because she talks like this.  The song is bad, no doubt – but I also don’t think Val or Maks really put their all into choreographing that duel, and thus the end result was even more lackluster.  I have to roll my eyes a bit at “I Wan’na Be Like You”, because I really only added that because I saw so many Meryl fans griping about how “terrible a samba song” it was. Boo hoo, poor Princess Meryl gets saddled with one mediocre individual song the entire season – go ask Charlie how it feels to get screwed over every other week, with “Sail”, “Mo’ Money, Mo Problems”, “Wildest Moments”, etc.  And James has more to gripe about with that gadawful “Gasolina” than Meryl dancing to a song from The Jungle Book.  As for the write-ins? Once again hard for me to say that Meryl got screwed with her foxtrot song, because even though it wasn’t really a foxtrot, it was still one of the top 10 songs in the country at the time and the shippers (and judges) ate it right up.  And anyone wanna make a bet that whoever wrote in “Dare You” was an insecure Meryl fan? 😛

Heidi: I ain’t takin’ that bet, Courtney. Same kinda idiot who haunts Amy’s instagram to scream “Meryl and Maks!!” on every single photo that Amy posts. :::rolls eyes:::  Must protect Princess Meryl at all costs!!  My nickname is an inside joke…wish I could say the same for Meryl’s. But no…the pedestal is still very, very high. Meryl overcame so many obstacles on her path to victory…horrendous song choices…mean judges picking on the stellar choreography…oh, wait. 😀  ANYway, JLo was getting  a lot of crap on the radio this morning for pretending to be “Jennie from the block” while staying in Manhattan. Apparently she gave 25k tickets to people in Brooklyn for her concert and half of them didn’t show up? With songs like “I luh Ya Papi” can anyone really blame them??  Yes, the song was bad (it got my vote)…but the choreographers did not help at ALL. Lord what a whimpy assed dance. The difference between “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and the “I Wan’na Be Like You” is also totally in the choreographer, IMO.  Neither song is a REALLY terrible song choice (but Charlie definitely got the short end of the stick in this instance), but Sharna made the best of it while Maks couldn’t get past it.  I can’t help thinking that if Derek or Mark had been handed Maks’ samba song (or JLo’s song), we would have seen some pretty creative choreography. Ah well.

Vogue: It’s so funny as when I first heard Charlie had “Sail” for a Paso Doble, I didn’t think it would work, but, it actually didn’t bother me. Give it up to Charlie and Sharna making the best of it….again as they did through out the season. Another song that just annoys me to no end anyway is “I Love Ya Pai”. I cringed through out Danica and Meryl’s Samba duel with that song. However, another song I didn’t like was “I Wanna Be Like You” for Meryl’s Samba. Awful song with a lack luster dance too. In the end, I voted for “I Wanna Be Like You” for the worst song.

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS 11, Week 4 Media Weekend Roundup – Part II

Heidi’s Note: All the writing in this post, unless noted like this, is Vogues writing. Her original post was getting VERY long so I made a last minute editorial decision to cut it into 2 part. Unfortunately, that makes me appear as the author when it’s actually Vogues’ work.Turns out it can be changed to Vogue. Good job, Vogue!

Would you like to see some of the cast and their real life partners? Here are some pictures from Extra. Be sure to see the link for more in a cool Gallery if interested.

Here is a fun interview with Anna on Kurt from her Facebook page;

Q: Which dance have been the easiest and the hardest to teach/ learn?
Anna: So far Foxtrot was the easiest to learn for Kurt, although he picked up the choreography for Rumba fairly fast as well.

Q: Which dance are you looking most forward to dance/ teach?
Anna: I think Kurt really wants to learn Samba. He thinks it’s a funny dance and he’s looking forward to being goofy with it.

Q: Are you starting to think about the free style that you will be dancing?
Anna: All I’m thinking about is: 1 week at a time. But there are always ideas flying in my head.

Q: Do you find it difficult or awkward to portrait the intimacy/chemistry that some of the dances require, taking into consideration that you are both in happy marriages? How do your spouses deal with it?
Anna: Kurt and I definitely have chemistry. It is very respectful and friendly, it is based on trust and teamwork. Our spouses are super supportive and understanding

Q: It looks like you are having so much fun when we see practice pictures and the packages during the show. How do you keep this up during the long hours and do you some times find that you need a little space?
Anna: I think it is important to be balanced. We work hard during rehearsals but we also joke around and keep it light. We take little breaks so Kurt can check on his family and talk to his wife over the phone. Sometimes Brenda and few kids come over to a dance studio and they have lunch together

Q: Kurt has shown such fantastic improvement what are the biggest challenges now?
Anna: Kurt has learned so much and improved dramatically but his upper body still is a challenge .He’s strong but not used to being stretching through movement hence “the frying pan” hands.

Special thanks to Guest, here is Rick Fox on Jay Leno last night where he talks about basketball, DWTS, the competition (Florence being his biggest threat. lol), and dancing on a DWTS Tour;

For you Kyle and Lacey fans, be sure to tune into The Ellen Show on Monday, Oct. 18th for a guest appearance from them.

For a preview for what’s to come Monday night, would you like to see Derek and Jennifer in rehearsal for their Foxtrot? If so, check this out from ET. Do you think they might get all “10’s” this week? (Heidi’s Note: any bets on if this fight that Derek and Jennifer keep talking about is their whole package? 🙂 )

Lastly, some of the pros and celebrities from the show (from the present and the past)showed up at the Doctrine Clothing Launch this past week. Here are a couple of takes from it. Be sure to see I Need My Fix for more cool pics. There is definitely some eye candy for everyone there I think. Special thanks to Heidi and Pure Derek Hough for the tip. Heidi’s Note: the reason so many people from the show were there was because Derek was “hosting” it.

Ok, that is it for now. Well, I think? 🙂

Heidi’s Note – Nope. A bit more. 🙂 Derek was on Good Day LA talking about Extreme Makeover AND George Penachio talks to Derek, Chelsie, Mark, and Tony about their appearance on the show THIS Sunday night.

DWTS 11, Week 4 Media Weekend Roundup – Part I

How is everyone doing today? How many of you have a pair of dancing shoes? If so, how many? Just wondering. 🙂

Starting off this media edition, it appears Shakira is going to get ‘loca’ on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and John Legend will perform with her. From En Terra:

According to TooFab.com, the Colombian singer will do a whole lotta hip shaking on next Tuesday’s edition of the hit reality show. Insiders say she’ll probably perform her new single, ‘Loca.’ Apparently John Legend, who did a World Cup concert with Shakira this summer, will appear with her. This is the second time the singer will shake her booty on the program; she also appeared on it, last October.

Several of the pro dancers have tweeted they are rehearsing for a “special performance”. Not sure at this time if it’s with the Shakira and John Legend performance or not? If anyone hears more, be sure to let us know. Heidi’s Note: Louis is choreographing a “group paso” – not sure if this is the same dance or a different one than the “special” one I’ve seen several of the pros refer to – I also got the feeling that the one the pros are talking about features ALL the pros, but we’ll see. 🙂

Speaking of special performances, Wetpaint.com is reporting that Mark and Bristol are promising to do something no one has ever attempted on the show before and will never try again. Hmmm, I wonder what’s up with that dance?

Unless something goes horribly wrong, Dancing with the Stars Week 5 should be about as fun as it gets. The eight remaining couples will dance to TV theme songs from several different decades. Most of the stars share the full scoop in these video interviews with On the Red Carpet, even if the details have to be teased out. We’ll be seeing two Quicksteps, two Foxtrots, two Rumbas, an Argentine Tango, and a Jive. Mark and Bristol are even promising something no one has ever attempted on the show before — and will never try again. Intriguing! Set your TiVos now…

From ET, here is Bristol and Mark talking some more about their upcoming dance and more….

Gong back to our last elimination on the show and as we’ve discussed here, many thought Mike Sorrentino stormed off angry after the show because he and Karina lost. Not so. Karina told MTV that Mike was not sore but in pain. Read more here…

“No, Mike didn’t storm off after we got voted off. [He’d] been hurting a lot on Tuesday,” she clarified in an email. “Not sure what was wrong, but it was in his neck area. He had a doctor come in right after the show. I really hope that the injury isn’t from those crazy lifts, especially since they didn’t pay off. Either way, of course we would have preferred to stay, but at the same time, we had a blast dancing together.”

While Smirnoff would have loved to take another spin on the dance floor with her partner, she isn’t too shocked that they were voted off this week. “I think it was very predictable after Monday night,” she said. “We were given some harsh criticism and the lowest scores of the night. But at the same time, I hoped that we would stay and try our luck in the next week’s dance. ‪ “I think it would be wrong to say [he’s] mad. Disappointed, maybe. Mad, no,” she continued. “The good news is now we can both concentrate on our other projects. For one, we both have a fitness DVD coming out. I might actually beat Mike in my release date!” ‪ The pair had hoped that their lift-filled routine would show the judges that The Sitch was improving as a dancer, and Smirnoff was surprised that it garnered as much as it did. “The difficulty of those lifts was very high, and the judges didn’t even mention anything about them as if they didn’t even see them!” she said. “The audience was very supportive in ballroom, screaming, applauding throughout the performance. So at least we had the support of the audience.” ‪ In the end, Smirnoff is satisfied with the way things worked out — and happy to have a new friend. “I think we did everything possible and impossible, and I think that’s the main reason why we are not mad, angry or anything like that,” she wrote. “On the contrary, we are very appreciative to our fans for believing in us and keeping us in the competition that long. [I would change] absolutely nothing. I had a great partner this season. We had an awesome time dancing together. And we’ve become great friends because of the show.”

In some humorous (or maybe something scary is more like it 🙂 ), did anyone see Carrie Anne on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week dancing “The Butt Dance” with Michael Chiklis? From TV Replay, you’ve got to see this? I’m not sure sure whether this should be called the dance from hell or what? But, I’m glad Jimmy said, “NO, IT’S THE UNSEXY BOOTY DANCE OF DOOM! MAKE IT STOP PLEASE!” 🙂

Dancing with the Stars Season 9 – Miscellaneous Media from Week 4

Several of the entertainment shows had DWTS stories that I’ve not previously posted – I’m sure I’ll have more tomorrow too. It never ends. 🙂 Latest on Derek for those not following on Twitter – Joanna says that Derek wants to dance on Monday, but it’s still very much up in the air, because he’s still sick. I personally think he should take the day off and rest, but he is 24 and male, so what are the odds he’ll listen to me? 😉

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Shakira Performs on Dancing with the Stars – UFC Goes Down Fighting

Tonight’s episode had a little bit of a shock too it, but we’re still a couple episodes from the real shocking eliminations. However, what I think is impressive is that Dancing with the Stars was able to get a big name like Shakira on the show. Granted 14 million viewers and probably a chunk of cash will convince a lot of performers to come on the show.

Since I’m always listing the music from the show, Shakira performed “Did It Again” and “Hips Don’t Lie” Shakira - Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 - Hips Don't Lie (feat. Wyclef Jean) with the Shakira dancers. I think I prefer when they use the pro ballroom dancers myself.

I have to admit that I thought Chuck’s teddy bear quality and also the UFC fan base would have carried him through a little farther. I guess UFC doesn’t really get into ballroom dancing. Although, it’s not revealing anything when I say that the NFL (Michael Irvin) has a bit larger audience than the UFC.
