“Who Will Make it to the Finale?” DWTS Promo for Week 10

Well, they *sorta* make it sound like they will eliminate someone on Monday, but I don’t believe them. Listen to how it’s all worded. And of course they are still beating the Tamar horse. :::rolls eyes::: The thing you have to remember is that they could be referring to the finale *night* which would be Tuesday, not Monday.

The Dancing Poetry Corner – Double The Dancing Pleasure – Duets Style

I was toying with how to write this week in light of the drama in the Ballroom on Monday night. I decided to address the drama and then go on to writing as usual.

So much has been said about the situation of Tamar, how the show handled the drama, etc. Was she brave for returning to dance? Should she have returned at all? Was how the show handled the situation the proper way to do it? Was Alexa dismissed unfairly? Was Tamar unfair in not withdrawing and allowing Alexa to have the possibility of continuing? I certainly don’t know the answers to those questions.

What I do know is pneumonia and blood clots in lungs and anywhere in the body are serious business. My 94 year old Mother is recovering from pneumonia. She is doing better. My late husband developed blood clots in his legs during his cancer ordeal. He was already severely weakened from the cancer. Of course blood clots need to be caught and dealt with, if possible, to avoid them traveling, breaking off, and causing death.

My prayers and good thoughts are with Tamar for clearing up of the clots and being restored to health. That is the most important thing. The questions I mentioned may have a bit of importance, too. But, first and foremost is that Tamar gets well. The drama that happened is unfortunate but it is past. It is on to the show next Monday night. And on to my writing about this week’s Monday night’s show.

When I was thinking about a way to write about the show, I thought of the commercial of the past – Double Your Pleasure – Double Your Fun – With Doublemint, Doublemint, Doublemint Gum. The show offered us a new concept this week – Duet Dances to Showstopper Tunes and Shows. I was excited to see what the dancers would come up with for this concept. I was not disappointed.

Please join me for:

Concept – A Great Dance

What Do You Mean

Copied movements on either side of a door
As if in a dysfunctional relationship, very well done
Sharp, staccato movements, lovely lines and footwork

The ending drama in the Ballroom was the elimination of Alexa and Mark. After growing into a special, spectacular dancer, Alexa’s time was over. It is so hard seeing anyone go at this point of all of the seasons. Those remaining have matured into dancers of beauty!

Next week the popular Trio Dances return. I always love those dances! I can’t wait to see who is chosen to work with the couples. And what they have come up with for their exciting dances!

Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson Talk DWTS Week 10 and Alexa on Fox 11 (Video)

You heard it here – Carlos and Witney don’t think Alexa will be back and they believe they will be given a third dance to do on this coming Monday night. I guess that’s better than filling with mindless drama fluff…but damn.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 9 – People Magazine Claims Alexa PenaVega “Could Be Back”, & POLL

I waffled a bit on whether or not to post this, as I don’t really think it’s news – really and truly, it could just be someone from People creeping our comments section for material (it’s happened before with other outlets) – but I thought I’d share nonetheless, since this seems to be a developing story.

Per “an insider”, Alexa could be reinstated in light of Tamar’s withdrawal from the competition:

With Braxton’s spot in the season 21 final 5 now open, there is discussion among the show’s producers about bringing back PenaVega, 27, who was just eliminated on Monday.

“The producers are looking at all possibilities right now,” a DWTS insider tells PEOPLE. “There is a possibility that Alexa could be reinstated.”

The article goes on to mention that they’re not sure how it would work, given that the viewers weren’t able to vote for Alexa after Monday night’s show – basically, kinda what we’ve been talking about in the Tamar post. I don’t think Alexa returning is entirely out of the realm of possibility at this point, though – I think TPTB are probably flying by the seat of their pants right now, given that Tamar has kinda turned the show on its head this week, and are throwing out all kinds of ideas and trying to make them stick. Mark did post something very optimistic on Instagram a few hours ago, and out of the blue, Alexa was praising the crew for all of their hard work…has one of the producers possibly reached out to them already?

Some exciting things happening.. This is now my Current mood. ???

A video posted by markballas (@markballas) on

I guess the way I see it right now, there is nothing TPTB can do that is going to make everyone happy – bring Alexa back, people are going to complain that it’s not fair to those who did get the votes to stay; don’t bring Alexa back, people are going to argue that Tamar’s withdrawal was just a waste and there’s no reason not to bring Alexa back. I also don’t know if it’s in the cards to drop the finale down from 4 couples to 3, since they seemed like they were dead set on making it a huge extravaganza. I guess at this point, I’m in favor of reinstating Alexa, taking the points from last week (but not the votes), combining them with the scores and votes from this coming Monday night (and having the votes count for double), and then eliminating someone on Tuesday to determine the 4 couples that make the finale. Is it possible? Who knows.  What do you guys think should be done?

Where Have You Gone, Dancing with the Stars? Heidi Rants.

Well, I feel I have to get something off my chest.

I loved (yes, past tense) Dancing with the Stars. Unashamed and openly. But what the current producers have done to this show has made it unrecognizable. A mere shadow of its formerly great self.

It started small. I’m not even sure I can put my finger on WHERE it started. There were signs for years that DWTS was, at it’s core, a reality show – for sure, a reality show that is highly produced. But it was so subtle, so nuanced – there weren’t competing agendas that impacted the direction of the show, such as the tour.  It featured ballroom dancing by celebrities from all walks of life. It showed, very clearly, to the masses that professional dancers are elite athletes with highly conditioned bodies and sublime talent and creativity. It introduced us to the talents of people like Derek Hough, Mark Ballas, and Julianne Hough – the three who took a ballroom dancing show and pushed it to the next level. All the professional dancers upped their game and pushed themselves to be better, more creative, dancers. They all were responsible for bringing ballroom dancing to gorgeous, entertaining heights and into, at times, 15 to 20 million households (back in the day).  We met celebrities that were often B list at best – and grew to love them more than they had ever enjoyed before, in some cases. It redeemed many celebs, humanized them…and showed us journeys of growth and friendship and camaraderie. The celebrities that caused me to roll my eyes or guffaw with laughter when they were announced, often turned out to be some of my favorite contestants ever on the show. Sadie Robertson…Rob Kardashian…Tommy Chong…Kelly Osborne…Bill Engvall…Snookie…the list is really too long. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 9 – Tamar Braxton Withdraws from DWTS, Cancels Remainder of Tour

Before I begin, please everyone send some love to @Voguerista – her father passed away unexpectedly yesterday, and all of us at Pure have a heavy heart today 🙁 I never had the pleasure of meeting her dad, but to produce someone as benevolent, kind, and hard-working as our little Vogue? He must have been one extraordinary man. 🙂 Prayers to Vogue & her family during this difficult time.

Well, according to Tamar’s Instagram, she is withdrawing from DWTS on the advice of doctors – she’s currently suffering from multiple pulmonary embolisms in her lungs:

With a Heavy heart I regret to inform you that my season of #dwts has to come to an end along with the rest of my tour dates with @musicbykem. After yesterday’s final #dwts performance I went back to the hospital (after the doctors didn’t want me to leave in the first place) only to find out that I don’t have pneumonia but something way more serious and that is having several P.E.’s (blood clots in both sides of my lungs) As you all know I will be the first to always encourage anyone to push through any obstacle that comes along one’s way. But in this case, my health is my current obstacle. .. And in TRUE #tamartian form I must go about this the exact same way as I would anything else. I woke up to a mirror and saw myself this morning and that makes me the winner because that almost wasn’t the case. ?Take care of yourselves… I love you and thank you ALL for your support❤️ p.s. Big hugs and kisses to my boo @iamvalc for being beyond a friend, brother and the BEST partner EVER?????

A photo posted by To (@tamarbraxtonher) on

First of all, I wish Tamar nothing but the best and I’m sending prayers & positive vibes her way – I lost my aunt to a P.E. 12 years ago, and when Mama Spence was first diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, they were fortunate enough to catch two P.E.’s and stop them in their tracks before they could really cause some damage.  They are even MORE serious than pneumonia, as you can die in a matter of minutes if one breaks loose.  She is absolutely doing the right thing by withdrawing and cancelling the remainder of her tour dates in order to attend to her health.  I vaguely recall her sister Toni suffering from the same affliction several years back before being diagnosed with lupus – P.E.’s can be a symptom, so there may be life-altering consequences for Tamar if she, too, suffers from an autoimmune disease.  I can only imagine how scary this must be for her.

All that being said, I can’t help but feel frustrated at the fact that she left the hospital against doctor’s orders on Monday night to come dance (rather lackadaisically, I might add), made it through to next week, and Alexa got sent home…only to have Tamar turn around and withdraw about 24 hours later. Not only was she seriously endangering her life by dancing (think about what could have happened if one of those clots broke loose on live tv), but had she withdrawn on Monday – Alexa might still be with us.  And while I’ve seen some on Twitter already entertaining the notion of Alexa returning, I just don’t see how they could – when she was voted off, they shut down her voting number.  My guess is that they will either not eliminate anyone on Monday, let all 4 remaining couples into the finale, and combine the totals from weeks 10 & 11 to determine the winner; or opt for a 3 person finale and eliminate one more couple. But who knows…

What do you guys think?

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 9 – Power Rankings

So I thought the show had hit a new low with the whole Nick baby shower mess last week – but as it seems lately, the  universe has a funny way of calling my bluff when I say “It can’t possibly get any worse.” Enter what I like to call “The DWTS Drama Porn 2-Hour Extravaganza” – will Tamar dance??? Will half of the married couple leave us tonight??? Are Bindi & Derek at odds??! OH THE HUMANITY!!! Seriously, tonight felt exploitative and disgusting. I don’t think TPTB had any clue what was going on with Tamar (and neither did Val – he seemed genuinely unsure of what was happening), but the minute they thought they could run with the drama on it??? My god, it turned into the Tamar show. “Tamar’s on the phone, she’s in a race against time to make it back here!” “We’ve just received word that Tamar is in the building!” “Tamar, darling, just sit down, we wouldn’t want you to swoon like Aunt Pittypat when getting your scores!” I rolled my eyes at how they were milking that footage for all its worth. And then there was Bindi & Derek’s rehearsal package – I just love (and by love I mean “rolled my eyes emphatically”) that they decided that this was the week to hone in Derek’s struggles as a choreographer and teacher. Gotta keep things interesting, eh? Sure, we never get to see packages from the pros that outsource their choreography to Alan and then have these easy, breezy rehearsals because they don’t have to worry about actually choreographing, but let’s really harp on Derek getting choreography block, and fabricate some drama between he & Bindi. And then there was the nonsense with Carlos & Alexa – if there’s one thing Carlos said this season that I actually agreed with, it was that having he & Alexa up there in jeopardy together was “what they wanted”…”they” being TPTB, who were also slick enough to turn the audio on when Alexa & Carlos were hugging and trying to calm down. Tacky, guys  – BEYOND tacky.

As for Tamar, I’ll just say this: I do believe she is really and truly sick, and has been for several weeks now – her voice sounds awful.  But I do find the timing of the hospital trip very convenient – she’s been sick all week and then suddenly needs a doctor midway through dress rehearsal, but manages to return with only moments to spare before she would have been disqualified for not dancing in the duet? Part of me wonders if she was intending to quit, but changed her mind – and if she really and truly does have pneumonia, quitting would have been the prudent course of action here, to look out for her health and to allow someone else who is able-bodied (read: Alexa) to continue in the competition another week.  Pneumonia is nothing to mess with – my manager came down with it earlier this year, and was in the hospital for two weeks and out of work for a month. At one point, his breathing became so laborious (he suffers from COPD) that they put him on a ventilator. You can DIE from pneumonia, if you don’t treat it promptly and properly.  It is serious business, and should be treated as such – so while I commend Tamar’s commitment to dancing, I also think she’s kind of a moron for not saying “I need to slow down and rest.” A $40 trophy cobbled together with parts from the craft store is not worth dying over – go home and rest with your family. I will say this, though: I don’t think we’ve gotten the full story, and I would be interested to see what TMZ is able to dig up in the coming days. I’m keeping my eyes peeled…

As for Alexa – my heart broke for her tonight, and it doesn’t do that for very many people these days. After such a heartfelt and personal performance like her contemporary, and then such a fun number with Bindi, it seemed like such a waste to send her home. She finally found her groove, and she got sent packing…while her husband got to stay.  Please, DWTS – never, ever have a married couple on the show again.  Or if you do, make sure they’re secure enough that the husband doesn’t say sh*t like *cringe* “I want to beat my wife” in one breath, then claim he wishes he could trade places with her and go home instead. Cry me a river of Jaleel White tears, Carlos. Read more..

Sharna Burgess Writes On Dancing With The Stars Week 9, Whipclips Included

Sharna Burgess has written a new blog at Hollywood Life. She writes of what a stressful week she, Nick, Val, and Tamar had. She is sad about Alexa leaving the show too. More below at the link. Whipclips below too!

Not only did we have a new challenge that we have never ever done before, but Nick and I had to travel to Las Vegas with Val and Tamar and even though some of us were sick, we had to create a number for a team dance inspired by the renowned Cirque du Soleil show, “Love.”

On Saturday evening, Nick had to leave rehearsal injured, and at that point he still had not learned most of the team dance. I have never had a moment on DWTS like I did this week where I did not know how to make things work, and it was incredibly stressful. So it was a true testament to the amazing people on my team — Val and Tamar – who has pneumonia and came straight here from the hospital — and my incredible partner Nick, that we were able to pull that team dance together.
