Sharna Burgess Helped To Choreograph Kevin Hart’s Dance Number For Tonight, New Interview

Mix97.7 interviewed Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess today. They ask her some interesting questions about teaching, costuming, and how the show picks their celebrity. They also talk on Tavis Smiley and how devastated he was to be eliminated so soon. More at Mix97.7. Note how Sharna helped to choreograph Kevin Hart’s dance for the opening number tonight as well as a few other dances. Great interview!

Derek Hough’s DWTS 19, Week 3 Blog – On Patricia Kelly and Bethany’s Ankle

Great news…and not so great news in Derek’s blog this week. Since we had a bunch of discussion on “why does Derek get to use ‘Singing in the Rain'” and Courtney and I had posited that since he knows Patricia Kelly, that he perhaps has a leg up on the others. One of the benefits of fostering lots of relationships in the dance community, beyond the ballroom. Β Here’s an excerpt from TV Guide:

This week, we’re doing the jazz to “Singin’ in the Rain.” My very first dance performance ever was to “Singing in the Rain” and I was about 3 or 4 years old. I don’t remember it at all. It’s on video somewhere. It’s me running around the stage with an umbrella. I was the only boy with a bunch of girls. I need to find that. It’d actually be really funny if we can include it in the package. I’ve always wanted to dance to this song, but I never envisioned doing it with a celebrity as s competition piece. I always thought I would do it as a Macy’s Stars of Dance piece. So I had to approach this differently. It’s not about what my body wants to do; it’s about what her body wants to do. We’re using an umbrella for it. Shocking, right? I just gotta make sure we don’t use the one Charlie used last season. I’m excited about it. It’s going to look beautiful. We’ve got little things in there that will be fun. We’re keeping it classic, but adding things in a little modern twist and musicality in there.

The cool thing is Patricia Kelly, Gene Kelly’s widow, wrote a beautiful email to me, allowing us to use the song and saying, “I’d be happy for you to use the song and to do the dance.” It was really lovely. Normally, it’s hard to get clearance for music in general, so it was really wonderful and humbling to get that from her. It’s kind of funny: We got a tweet from Taylor Swift the first week, a tweet from Meghan Trainor the second week and an email from Patricia Kelly the third week. It’s great and a little surreal to hear from the artists and to know that they’ve seen our dance. What will happen in Week 4? (Knock on wood!)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Appreciating The Opening Number For DWTS Season 19 Week 2

We posted on some of the other dances this week on Dancing With The Stars in appreciating them, but, what about Monday night’s opening number? Seeing the judges dance was so cool. Carrie Ann looked hot out there (and check out those heels! πŸ˜€ ). And how about the Karina Smirnoff lift by Tony?

Did you get to see Julianne Hough on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE last night? Here she is in a silly skit.

Good Day LA interviewed Michael Waltrip about his time on Dancing With The Stars. Learning to dance has been challenging, but, he’s having so much fun. He has the reporters all up and dancing by the end of the interview. Look at those hips roll again. He’s a hoot. Read more..

DWTS 19, Week 2 on Afterbuzz TV

Once again, I’m posting it without having a chance to watch the whole thing.  I love Keo. That is all. πŸ™‚  I’ll add my comments in the comments when I do see the whole thing. My one gripe is that they mention Lea’s training – but don’t acknowledge Janel’s. Janel has training in Jazz, Hip Hop, Broadway and other styles of dance and it’s much more recent than Lea’s.

PureDWTS Poems For Dancing With The Stars Season 19 Week 2

Without further ado, below is Lois with some fun new poems for Dancing With The Stars Season 19 Week 2…

A JUMPIN’, JIVIN’, JAMMIN’ MONDAY NIGHT

The ballroom was jumpin’, jivin’, jammin’ Monday night
My Jam Monday was a sensational, inspirational delight

The opening was a cast explosion, classy, snazzy sight
With the feel of film noir, colored in black and in white

The pairs were jammin’ to a song of the stars own choice
It was time to be creative, a time to excel, time to rejoice
.
THE JAMS, DANCES, MUSIC, DESCRIPTIVES:

TAVIS AND SHARNA – CHA CHA CHA
BOOGIE WONDERLAND. – EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE

A bell-bottomed bonanza, a fun 60s style
A jolly jam, disco dance, dance party theme

BETHANY AND DEREK – FOXTROT
ALL ABOUT THAT BASS – MEGHAN TRAINOR

Fit as a fiddle, Fosse Foxtrot, perfect balance Read more..

DWTS19 Fireball A to Z, More Interviews, Carrie Ann Inaba Writes New Blog

Wasn’t this a hot little deal last night on Dancing With The Stars?!! Sign in comments if you want MORE!!

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba has also posted a new blog at Parade. First, she apologizes for not including Derek and Bethany last week in her blog. She says, “Bethany is someone to watch. Not only because she has Derek Hough as her partner who we all know is an incredibly talented choreographer who pushes creates incredible performances for his partner, but also because she has an inner strength and determination mixed with what is becoming a fluid and rich movement style. I say determination because she is a pioneer in her world of YouTube and she is someone who had a dream and found a way.” She also posts on the three staandout performances of week 2. Carrie Ann also lost her older cat, Taz, this past week (I loved the cat!). More at Parade including pictures and fashion credits..

Lastly, George Pennacchio has been loading up more interviews at ABC7. He asked them about next weeks dances and more. Here are a few of them….

Dancing with the Stars Season 19, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What….and When? (Song Spoilers)

This week, as people who are site members might be aware, we have a lot of info, but a lot of it isn’t really clear yet. πŸ™‚ It’s still a work in progress. Β Here’s the parts we’re fairly sure of:

ETA: I totally called this one on Twitter yesterday – Singing in the Rain by Derek Hough? Perfect. πŸ™‚ Now is it that actual song? I’m assuming yes.

ETA2: The subtle-as-a-sledgehammer hints continue at the DancingABC Instagram Mike’s Twitter, as he pretty much confirms he’s gonna be Robin Hood.

ETA3: So, Len said during this past Monday’s show that Alfonso was doing V.Waltz, but his wife says he’s doing quickstep.

ETA4: We’re kinda doubting that Alfonso’s wife is right…

ETA5: …and I’m sure you can see why now πŸ˜› No clue what the hell he & Witney are gonna do to this song…I’ve listened to it at least 10 times, and cannot find any strong semblance of a foxtrot or quickstep rhythm.Β  It’s a tad fast for a foxtrot, but not even enough for quickstep…who knows.Β  But I’m sure whatever it is – Alfonso’s gonna put on a helluva show 😎 Looks like Jonathan’s Mean Girls song didn’t clear so he ended up with his 2nd choice.Β  I have to wonder if they’re bending the rules a bit and going with the Amy Winehouse version, though, as the Beyonce version is rather slow.Β  Looks like “Pour Some Sugar on Me” was a safety song – but part of me kinda wants to see the pros dance to it instead πŸ˜‰ And a different source confirmed that Bethany & Derek’s dance style is jazz – with quite a bit of tap influence πŸ˜‰ -Court-

ETA6: ZOMG PLOT TWIST LOLZ!!!! 😯 Apparently “I Feel Pretty” is now off the table – and Vajanel has been seen rehearsing to “America” instead.Β  Wondering if Val may have jumped the gun on confirming they had cleared “I Feel Pretty” – either that, or “I Feel Pretty” wasn’t working out, and they asked to switch songs (after switching dances already, mind you).Β  Food for thought – draw your own conclusions.Β  Confirmed Betsey & Alfonso’s dances – Tony is apparently doing some gorgeous lifts with Betsey, so they do, indeed, have contemporary; and Alfonso’s old lady was right – he is doing quickstep.Β  How? I’m not sure…but I’m certainly intrigued. πŸ™‚

ETA7: We have a more detailed explanation of what went down with West Side Story-gate – wanna hear it? Looka hurr.

ETA8: We can always rely on Cheryl to share her dance order…see below. πŸ™‚

ETA9: Vogue here and scroll below to see a new “Movie Night” commercial. Here’s to tonight!

ETA10: Probably the last update before showtime – and before Heidi’s discussion post goes live in less than 10 minutes (complete with spoilers about next week’s show!) Apparently Randy & Karina are opening the show – AGAIN – and Betsey & Tony might be going 3rd…they said they are on Instagram, but Michael’s racing team also tweeted that he’s going 3rd.Β  So….who knows. Enjoy the show, kids 😎

Tavis Smiley Blames Lack of Rehearsal for DWTS Elimination

Seriously, you guys need to read this. Not only does Tavis insist on talking in 3rd person, but he’s actually blaming DWTS for taking him on knowing he had a book tour. Um, dude? You’re in charge of your life, you signed on. Can you believe this guy? Be sure to read the whole article from People. Discuss.

Tavis Smiley has a bone to pick with the producers of Dancing with the Stars.

The talk-show host, who on Tuesday became the second celebrity to get booted from the competition, said there was no way he could fit in rehearsal time with his latest book tour. And the producers knew it, he insisted.

“Producers shouldn’t sign up people who can’t commit the time when they are told up front that the person is going to be on a book tour,” Smiley told PEOPLE immediately after the show. “We gave them the entire book-tour schedule in advance! This is not about sour grapes. It’s about saying I think the fans deserve to have stars on this show who have the time to commit to learning the dances so [partner Sharna Burgess] and other professionals don’t waste their time trying to do something that’s just humanly impossible.”
