Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 5 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Okay, so word on the street…can’t remember where I heard it…is that we’re back to Most Memorable Year. Let’s see who they’re going to hose this week. 🙂

ETA: Vogue here. According to a live chat at Hollywood Today Live Facebook, James and Sharna have a Tango.

ETA2: Val and Laurie have a Paso Doble to a slow and intense song according to this interview in this post.

ETA3: The rest of the dances and songs have been filled. Thanks to Just Jared Jr via ABC.

ETA4: Here’s the running order per George Pennachio. We’ll have to see if there are set pieces that dictated this. Calvin’s kinda hosed two weeks in a row and Laurie gets top of the second hour – very favorable spot as per usual.

Maureen and Artem – Foxtrot (song: “From the Ground Up” by Dan + Shay)
1-800-868-3409
Dancing 1st

Calvin and Lindsay – Jazz –(song: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

PureDWTS Season 23 Week 4 – Media And Interviews

My, where do I start? 😯 What a treat it was to come home to watch two of the BEST Dancing With The Stars shows ever!! The choreography, the production, and the content was just outstanding. Sharna Burgess mentioned this week that getting ready for the show and everything the cast is doing is “harder than ever” this season. Well, the hard work is paying off as Dancing With The Stars “is better than ever” too in my opinion. The show this season is getting a huge A+ from me, but, more on that in a new Questionnaire coming tomorrow. So, be watching for it. 😉 For now, here are some interviews and media from Dancing With The Stars Week 4. Special Notes: Next week is “Most Memorable Year” Week. The show also returns to it’s one night format on Monday night (no show Tuesday).

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 4 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, another night of crap ass scoring by judges who were having a hard time hiding their agenda. I mean what the hell was going on there? It’s almost like they got together before the show, had some wine and decided what scores they were going to hand out…and then several people over performed and didn’t match the low scores that were determined over drinks.

A huge problem with this show – HUGE – is the assigning of themes and dances. You give Laurie – the gymnast – a dance with few to no rules on a week where the theme whose middle name is “gymnastics”. Then you turn around and give EVERYONE else dances with very clear rules – and mark them down when they don’t execute. Of course Laurie got 10s – there was no way to “miss” a step, or have not enough body contact, or whatever. It’s ridiculous that you have couples dancing Jazz up against V.Waltz, Quickstep, Paso Doble and Tangos. Ridiculous. But worst of all, Val had a dance where anything goes, to an MJ song, with a 16 year old gymnast…and did we see anything close to what both Derek and Mark choreographed when they had partners with similar skill sets? Nope. Not even close. It’s a waste of a great partner.

:::sigh::: But why bother? I’m not the least bit surprised.

Anyway, I think Babyface is likely history and I’m thinking that Marilu will end up being safe. She and Calvin were both so underscored that I suspect they are getting the votes. I hope so, anyway.  Here’s where the leaderboard was at the end of the night…and keep in mind tomorrow is a double elimination. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 23, Week 4 – Power Rankings

“Cirque du Soleil Week” turned out to be more like “Cirque du NO WAY” week, I’m afraid – with the exception of maybe 3 couples, pretty much everyone got chewed up and spit out by the theme in some way or another.  This is what happens when you try to force a theme to fit a dance – things tend to get messy, and we end up bereft of a lot of good dancing.  You know it’s overkill when a source at the show last night texts you to tell you he/she is tripping over acrobats while trying to move around backstage 🙂

Also kinda sucks that, on top of the overkill of Cirque week, and the great Julianne vs. Amber “Uncomfortable-gate” non-controversy stealing the show, the bomb also got dropped that tonight is a surprise double elimination.  Had a lot of you on Twitter asking me if I thought this was in the same vein as the Sean Avery elimination – where Sean had butted heads with producers, and they rearranged the elimination schedule to allegedly send him home earlier.  Honestly, the only one I thought MIGHT fit into the same category as Sean might have been Amber, but given how they milked the Amber drama and then lavished praise on her dance last night, I’m not really inclined to think they would pull something like this to get her out.  I’m more inclined to think that they’ve rearranged the schedule in some manner, and need to make sure they have X number of contestants in X week and the easiest way to ensure that is to do a double elim this week.  FWIW, if they do a double elim this week (and a single elim each week from now until Halloween), they end up with even numbers for the team dances – not that they’ve ever really seemed to care about that, but just illustrating that I don’t think there’s anything particularly foul driving this decision, and it could be for some very innocuous reason.  We know there has to be a double elim at some point in the fall season – where it falls is up to TPTB, and maybe this was just the most convenient time to do it.

Kinda rolling my eyes that, for the 3rd week in a row, we have to deal with a 2-hour results show, which is basically a one-hour recap show with a few musical guests built into the 2nd half, in between results.  Anybody know what fall show got cancelled and left a gap in the schedule that they needed DWTS to fill? I’d kinda like my Tuesday nights back, thanks… Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 4 – LIVE BLOG!!

Site rules in are effect – don’t hit refresh every 2 minutes, make sure you’re not posting one-liners, etc. Thank you. 🙂

Well, I suspect that tonight will either be mind blowing and fantastic…or an utter clusteryouknowwhat. I’ll be surprised if there is middle ground. And after hearing Derek have to defend Julianne in two interviews when he should have been talking about his performance and being included with the elite of Hollywood, Imma be pissed if Julianne actually apologizes when she did nothing wrong. But I got 5 bucks she does.

So what happened to Tom’s Audio?? He was announcing them and then he stopped.

All Access note: Derek and Marilu make their first appearance and it’s week 4. Some couples are on every week.

Crap, double elimination tomorrow nite!!!

Damn, Calvin is impressing me every single week. That was good dancing, great choreography. Read more..
