PureDWTS Court Rants: The Argument in Favor of Outside Choreographers

Ever since the “Choreography Emmy-gate” scuttlebutt erupted last summer, there seems to be a new, controversial topic I see thrown around more and more amongst the fans: the pros using/not using outside choreographers. And there have been offshoots of that topic as well – how much credit outside choreographers should be given (if any), the contractual ins-and-outs of using outside choreographers, and whether or not the use of an outside choreographer somehow makes a pro “less talented”.  And honestly – it kinda gets my goat, because fans that know little to nothing about how choreography works suddenly have their noses in the air about some of the pros on the show using them. So I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile now: just a post setting the record straight, and hopefully addressing some of the misguided opinions I’ve heard about the use of outside choreographers on the show. Pure DWTS Questionnaire Looking Back On 2013: What are your “favorite” and ‘best of” thoughts?

Hi Everyone!! We thought it might be fun to look back on the last two seasons of Dancing With The Stars (Season 16 and Season 17) to get your “favorite” and ‘best of” thoughts. As always, answer to your best ability or for whatever comes to mind first in the comments section. Also, try to answer with only one choice, but, you can name a few honorable mentions if it’s too difficult to choose only one. Ok, here ya go….

1. Taking into account the last two seasons of Dancing With The Stars in 2013, who do you think deserves an award for Top Female Pro?

2. From the last two seasons of Dancing With The Stars in 2013, who do you think deserves an award for Top Male Pro?

3. Now taking your top two picks from above, which pro deserves the Vanguard Professional Dancer Award for 2013?

4. The Best Dancing With The Stars Troupe Members in 2013 were __________________ and ___________________. (Try to name only two)

5. Taking into account the last two seasons of Dancing With The Stars in 2013, who were your top 3 favorite couples? Rate them in order as well.

6. The celebrity dancer to surprise me the most in 2013 was ________________________.

7. The celebrity dancer to tug on my heart strings the most in 2013 was _________________________.

8. The Most “Entertaining” Celebrity Dancer of 2013 was ________________________.

9. The “Best” Celebrity Dancer of 2013 was _________________________.

Good luck and see you in comments! As always, thanks for your fun participation and here’s to Dancing With The Stars in 2014. 😉 xxx

Vote for Your Favorites in the PureDWTS Season 16 End-of-Season Awards!!!

 Ok gang, now that the hype has had some time to die down…it’s time to vote for your favorites & least favorites in this season’s end-of-season awards 🙂 Pretty self-explanatory – just select what you think is the best option for each category and submit it.  “But Courtney, you don’t have my favorite listed!!!” Yes, there is an option for write-ins…HOWEVER…

…after the absolute chaos that was the HUNDREDS of write-in votes last season, I’m going to really crack down on the write-in votes.  If you absolutely MUST write-in a response other than the ones we have listed (and I took great pains to include the responses that I thought would be the most likely choices for each category), you MUST do so with a certain format in mind…for example, if you were trying to write in “Zendaya & Val’s Argentine tango” for the best dance, you MUST do it just like I typed it – captalize the first names of the celeb first, then the pro; throw an “&” in the middle, and then put the type of dance after that.  Examples of what not to do: “zendaya val tango” or “Zendaya tango” or “any dance Zendaya did!!!!” Yeah, especially that last one – you get to choose ONE DANCE, not 13.  Any responses that don’t fit the scheme I just laid out are getting thrown out – sorry guys, but I just don’t have the energy (or desire) to weed through 300+ nonsensical, misspelled, & obnoxious responses.  Got it? Good.  Now vote away 🙂 We’ll share the results in the coming weeks.  Read more..

DWTS Season 16, Weeks 6 and 7 – The Cheesecake Awards, SUPERSIZED!!

Week 7 was actually so bad that I (Heidi) couldn’t come up with very many awards. I was overwhelmed. And not in a good way. 🙂

WEEK 6

The “Who’s That Girl??” Award: Sharna Burgess for looking strikingly different in the rehearsal footage than she does on the actual show.

Heidi: She’s seriously naturally gorgeous without the make up – I think prettier without it. I think it’s the uniqueness of the dark hair and the blue eyes. Let’s hope she keeps it that way. For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT dye your hair blonde, Sharna. I know the temptation may be over whelming, but RESIST. Blonde females are a dime a dozen on that show.

Courtney: I think the makeup department may be to blame in this instance – they just love to over-smoke her eyes, just like they love to over-line Peta’s eyes, and put nude lipstick on Lindsay to make it look like she has no mouth.  They have an uncanny way of making naturally gorgeous ladies look totally over-done.  And as for the blondes – it’s times like this where I really miss Anna.  I could always spot her red hair whipping around in that sea of blonde 🙁

The Award for Person Most likely to Earn a Punch in the Mouth (a.k.a. If you don’t STFU, I’m going to hit you HARD): Len Goodman, Sean Lowe and Ingo Rademacher for the constant mentions of Andy’s name, sometimes in a derrogatory way (Len).

Heidi: Seriously, you jackasses are that threatened by Andy?? Pissing me off, you were. Perhaps you too noticed all the females surround Andy after his dances….Kellie, Sharna, Kym, to name a few. Not to mention Derek is always high fiving him.  Me thinks you dudes are jealous. Don’t know what Len’s problem was – they showed on the results show that they scored Sean because he was “better than Andy.” What the hell??

Courtney: Methinks Sean & Ingo realized that Andy was quickly nipping at their heels in terms of ability – he was improving each week, while they were…languishing.  Plus Andy was gaining popularity, while they were…maybe not.  Andy may not have always been a stellar dancer, but he was definitely not fading into the woodwork like either of them.  As for Len – he’s just a horrible human being.  That’s the conclusion I’ve reached.

The Award for Person Most in Need of A Mirror….and a new lamp….and a glimpse at his Birth Certificate: Mark Ballas, for not only wearing his hat (with what looked to be a penis on it) cocked to the side like he’s all thug, but for wearing hammer pants and having gauges in his ears; (Dis)Honorable Mention: Will.i.am – same reason.

Heidi: Really dude?? You’re pushing 30 and you’re totally a white boy born and raised in London….and not the ‘hood portion.  Justin Bieber…who is what? Eight years younger than you? He looks stupid as hell in those outfits and he’s a kid. You, are an adult.  And I totally kept thinking you had a penis on your hat.  At least Will.i.am always looks stupid – you come to expect it. But Mark, you’re a good looking dude (I prefer blondes, but I can acknowledge it 🙂 ) – why’d you have to ruin it with bizarro costuming even when you’re not performing??

Courtney: I feel like Mark thinks it’s still 2001 and Sum 41 and New Found Glory are still ruling the airwaves.  And Lord knows what was going through Will’s head – that whole performance looked like a robotic bar mitzvah for MC Hammer, held in outer space.  Mazel tov, I guess?

The Blow Harder Award: To the Female Pros Dancing Around Stevie Wonder and blowing him kisses.

Heidi: Yo….Stevie is BLIND. Just sayin’.

Courtney: Poor Stevie probably just wondering why there was a sudden breeze. Read more..

Tristan MacManus Chat’s About Dancing With Witney Carson On Dancing With The Stars And More

Wasn’t it fun seeing pro Tristan MacManus last week on Dancing With The Stars? I loved his dances with Witney Carsen!!! MacManiacs.org interviewed him all about it and how they put the dance together. He also talks of the side by side challenge with Victor and Lindsay and Peta and Sean. Here is more….

It was great seeing you back on Dancing With the Stars during Week 5, and we especially loved your performance with Witney Carson during the results show. Tell us about that – it looked incredibly intricate and difficult, yet you and Witney seemed to embrace the dance and let the story develop.

I loved dancing with Witney – she is so good and fun to be around, and Teddy Forance is unreal. I was a bit in two minds about doing the number. I really wanted to work with those two but at the same time I wasn’t too sure about doing the contemporary as it’s not really my style but Teddy made it work for me which I was happy about. He is very much a ‘guy’ dancer and let me do things I felt comfortable doing. I really enjoyed working with them for sure.

Len’s side by side challenges were great fun from the fans’ point of view. Would you share a little about working with Emma, Victor, and Lindsay for the Viennese Waltz and again with Chelsie, Peta, and Sean for the Quickstep? There must be some good stories to tell.

I always love working with Emma, and Vic and I hang out so rehearsals were fun. I love Emma’s dancing so it was great to dance with her but also it is good to work with the guy celebrities as well – if nothing else just for a new perspective for them and to freshen things up even for a week. We had great laughs there. I always love hanging out with Peta as well. She is one funny girl, and I was interested to get to know Sean. He is cool, real down to earth, and a bit of a dry sense of humor which kept me entertained while working.

Every time you and Sean are on our tv screen at the same time, we can’t help but laugh. You guys seemed to have a great time working together, and if nothing else, we were hugely entertained. How did all the silliness begin?

Yeah, like I said Sean is a good guy- the show really pushed the bromance thing which gets a bit old, but we do genuinely get on with each other so most of the interaction was just us really making fun of the situation and at how bizarre the intent of the packages was. Someone would start a ridiculous conversation, and we would just roll with it. I wasn’t expecting the rose thing so we tried to make that as ridiculous as possible. My language I guess was cut out of a lot of the footage. Haha!

Lots more at MacManiacs.org including some fun pictures. Great interview!!

Victor Ortiz Doesn’t Really Lose DWTS, Lindsay Arnold Learns Patience And More

And so we say Good-bye to another contestant on Dancing With The Stars!! I thought Victor seemed relieved. Along with with his relief, I loved that he had such nice things to say on the cast and Lindsay. He tells George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet that he didn’t really lose since he made a lot of new friends and that would be the best thing about doing Dancing With The Stars. He also gained a new fan base who he hopes will follow him. Lindsay learned a lot too about the whole experience of teaching dance for the first time on Dancing With The Stars. See below….

Stay tuned! We may add more interviews to this post in a bit. 😉

ADDING: And here they are on GMA this morning.

DWTS 16, Week 5 – SPOILERS!!! Who Got the Boot???

Well, it appears as though Heidi decided to sample moonshine for the first time this evening, and the last I heard on Twitter, she was feeling about like I was on that asthma medication last night – so I’m guessing she’s out committing a felony and smashing things like the Incredible Hulk 😛 So you guys get to deal with me tonight…yay!

Now that I’ve wasted enough space for the Twitter crowd…Victor, Sean, & Andy all ended up in jeopardy tonight, with Victor and Sean in the bottom two, and Victor going home.  Can’t say I’m too surprised by that one…just like the team paso getting the encore, despite its mediocrity.  Zzzzz….

How did the Pure crew do?

Courtney:  Said Victor was going home, with Ingo in the bottom 2…with the off-chance that it would be Sean in the bottom 2 instead of Ingo.

Heidi: Said Victor and either Ingo or Andy in the bottom 2…and that Victor was likely toast.

Vogue: Said Victor & Sean in the bottom 2, with Victor leaving.

Vogue hit the nail on the head this week, with Heidi & I getting it partially right.  Sean lives to awkwardly shimmy his way through Latin week (likely shirtless), Andy continues to be our little ray of sunshine, and Peanut will probably steal the show (and the cheese) again 😛 All is right in the Pure kingdom…moonshine & steroids for everyone!!! Kidding…sort of 😉

Dancers and Dance Fans Unite: Please Help This Dance Instructor Who Was Hurt In The Boston Bombings

Did you know there was a dance instructor hurt in the Boston Bombings? Her name is Adrianne Haslet-Davis. She was at the Boston Marathon with her husband, Air Force Captain Adam Davis, who had just recently returned home from Afghanistan. Both were injured when the second bomb exploded near them. Adrianne’s left foot and part of that leg had to be amputated. Despite her injuries, she has vowed to dance again and do whatever it takes. Below she talks with Anderson Cooper about it in case you missed this on his show last night. My heart broke in two when I saw this and yet, something in me says, she ‘will’ dance again. What a sweet, strong, and courageous young woman. If you’d like to help her, please visit this website. Even the smallest amount can make a difference.

Thanks to Eileen for sending this news to us last night!

UPDATE: No idea if this is true or not, but, one of our readers is reporting that Adrianne Haslet-Davis and her story might be spot lighted on Dancing With The Stars next week. Also, below is the cast sending her some love and cheer on Inside Edition Monday night.

UPDATE2: Tom Bergeron announced on the show tonight that they are indeed spot lighting Adrianne Haslet-Davis on next week’s results show. They will also be announcing how the show plans to help her (So awesome!! And according to what Codebear reports to us, he, Elena Grinenko, and Nick Kosovich were able to get the ball rolling for this.). Read more..

DWTS Season 16, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers

Such a weird night. First, they yank out the tens for one of Zendaya’s worst dances….it’s almost like they knew that Team Paso was gonna suck kinda hard. Then, Carrie Ann refuses to give up a 10 to Kellie and Derek, claiming that there was space between them, yet totally failing to note Zendaya’s again bad legs. They then totally hose Andy (and Len continues to be excessively mean to him), while being kind to Victor, who had a worse dance than Andy’s.

Weirdest of all – on paper, Team Paso should have had that dance in the bag. So, did they get over confident? Think they could skate by on bare chests (didn’t the same pros fail at that last season as well?)?? What?? I guess this just goes to show that if you are the weaker team and you have to be MORE creative in order to get past your weak dancers, you just DO.

It will be really funny when the team dance that sucked eggs (and looked like the poor man’s version of Derek/Brooke’s team paso at the end) wins the encore. LOL. Yeeeaaah. 😀

Anyway, how did our dancers do??

week 6

So…Victor is in deep doo doo. It will take a bit of a miracle to save him at this point. What does he need to get to be safe? Victor needs ONE of the following things to happen:

–        Victor needs 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than Andy, OR;

–        Victor needs 13,300 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

–        Victor needs 16,000 more votes per million votes cast than EITHER Ingo or Sean, OR;

–        Victor needs 29,200 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;

–        Victor needs 32,000 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;

–        Victor needs 37,200 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie.

Frankly, I don’t believe Victor gets any of those margins. His best bet is Andy and Andy was low scorer last week but was NOT in the bottom two. Victor, on the other hand, had two people below him in terms of score, but was still in the bottom two. Not looking good for Victor. At all.

But let’s say that Victor manages to pass someone. Andy is next in line in terms of judges score. What does Andy need to have happen in order to be safe? He needs ONE of the following:

–        Andy needs for Victor to NOT get 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;

–        Andy needs 5,350 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

–        Andy needs 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than EITHER Ingo or Sean, OR;

–        Andy needs 21,300 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;

–        Andy needs 24,000 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;

–        Andy needs 29,200 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie.

Now, I don’t think Victor is getting the 8k he needs…and I would be willing to bet that Andy is getting 8k more than Ingo. I just think that Ingo has worn out his welcome. But he was put in jeopardy last week and sometimes a guy gets a bounce after that happens. Will Ingo?? I dunno. My gut is saying no. I think, based largely on his bromance with Tristan and how funny he was about that, Sean is likely safe this week.  I think it will come down to Victor, Ingo and Andy.

What does Ingo (or Sean) need to have happen in order to be safe?? Ingo (or Sean) needs ONE of the following things to happen:

–        Ingo needs for Victor to not get the 16,000 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;

–        Ingo needs for Andy  to not get the 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;

–        Ingo needs for Jacoby to NOT get the 2,700 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;

–        Ingo needs to get ONE more vote per million votes cast than Sean, OR;

–        Ingo needs 13,300 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;

–        Ingo needs 16,000 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;

–        Ingo needs 21,300 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie.

Okay, so based on all of the above, I think the following happens:

–        Ingo and Sean aren’t touching Jacoby and he’s safe, easily getting 2,700 more votes per million votes cast than each of them;

–        Andy gets 8k more than Ingo and Victor can’t catch him and is, therefore, safe;

–        Ingo is getting beat by Sean, Jacoby and Andy, but there is no way that Victor is getting 16k more votes per million votes cast….

–        Therefore, Victor goes home.

Seems like a simple math problem this week, but I could be wrong. I was starting to wonder if perhaps Zendaya wasn’t getting the votes, as badly as they overscored her Cha Cha, but I’m also wondering if they put her just far enough down to be safe while rallying her fans to vote like the little maniacs they are.

Doesn’t matter, IMO.  I think it will either be Victor and Ingo or Victor and Andy in the bottom two and Victor will go home.

I’m saying it will be Victor and Ingo in the bottom two and Victor goes home.

Anna Trebunskaya Reviews The Dances For Stevie Wonder Night On Dancing With The Stars

Louis Van Amstel wasn’t able to review the dances last night on Dancing With The Stars, but, our beautiful Anna filled in for him. She has good things to say about everyone, but, she is the most worried for Victor being eliminated tonight and apologizes for being a “Debbie Downer”.

Kellie Pickler’s Quickstep: She did amazing! She looked fantastic, stayed in character and was very consistent with footwork and frame. Wonderful execution of a very classy routine. She is getting better and better with every routine. I actually like her a lot in ballroom dances. Kellie has such a spunky personality, but she can bring total class to her dances as well.

Victor Ortiz’s Rumba: Sorry to be a “Debbie Downer” here, but not the best dance for Victor. I like Victor’s personality so much, but he wasn’t able to merge it with the character of Rumba. Victor needs to find joy and fun in the slower , elegant dances as well as the fast-paced ones. I’m worried that he may be going home tonight. If he is still in the competition, he needs to challenge himself and find his personality again.

Jacoby Jones’s Quickstep: Pigeon toes or not, he’s a musical dancer. Jacoby lets music run through his body and energize his movement. His frame was good, speed was great and energy was never ending (as usual) . But please, smile! Just because a ballroom dance has a frame , still show your enjoyment. I do agree with Len that Jacoby is a better Latin dancer.

I think she nails it with her review. What do you think? You can read it in full at Good Morning America here.

Good Morning America also recapped the night. You can watch their coverage at this link for what they have so far. They may post more, so keep checking back.

Stay tuned. Miss Heidi’s new Numbers prediction post is coming up next. 😉
