DWTS 14 Semi-Finals Saying Good-bye To The Greek Warrior Princess Maria Menounos (Videos)

This post is a collaboration effort between Heidi and I (Vogue). As predicted, it was a painful elimination last night for many of us losing Derek and Maria. Though I have to say I feel so blessed at the same time for witnessing such a pair. One thing this show continues to show every season is the “fight” in people no matter what their challenges and struggles they’ve had and/or what they face. Whatever hits them or how scared they are that they will fail, some people just get back up, start over, and fight that much harder and even in an unselfconscious manner. THAT’S what I’ll remember the most about Maria Menounos with her time on Dancing With The Stars. She proved to people you can do anything you want and there are no excuses or “crying in baseball”. What’s more, Maria did it with so much heart and soul…and with a quirky, fun spirit, and laugh as well. She and Derek really did win a Mirror Ball in a way by not only by giving us some dances we will soon never forget on Dancing With The Stars, but, by finding the close “bond” that they did. So, for those who have come to the site to gloat, laugh, and tee hee at their elimination, go ahead and do so because Derek, Maria, and their fans know what they have truly found and won in a bigger and more important way.

Ok, below is Miss Heidi with a wrap up of all the elimination interviews with Derek and Maria. Be sure to visit Pure Derek Hough for lots more now and in the coming days.

Blurbs from E! News:

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough were the couple to say goodbye to the ballroom tonight, but don’t expect any regrets from the TV host!

“I feel like I accomplished everything I set out to accomplish,” she tells us. “I danced every single dance there was.”

Many people were surprised by Maria and Derek’s elimination considering they were at the top of the leaderboard after last night’s performance show, earning a near-perfect score of 59. However, Maria reveals her partner knew their journey was coming to an end. “Derek did prepare me earlier today,” she says. “I’m not gonna lie. He said, ‘I have a feeling we’re going home tonight.'”

Derek isn’t too bummed about coming in fourth. In fact, he actually prefers it! “I always say this: There’s two places to come, first or fourth, because second and third really suck. Coming thisclose and not getting it? That bites. Everybody comes back in the finals anyway, so semifinals is a really place to come besides winning.”

All season long there’s been speculation about Maria and Derek’s sizzling chemistry extending beyond the dance floor. So what did the duo, who shared a steamy kiss during a past performance, have to say for themselves? “We’re going to keep kissing!” Maria tells us, before planting a smooch on Derek’s lips before our very eyes!

Derek knows the ins and outs of this show better than any other pro on this show – and better than me and Courtney, I wager. 🙂

From Daily News:

Even though partner Derek Hough dubbed her a “champion of life,” Maria Menounos lost her shot at being the Mirror Ball champ for this season of “Dancing With the Stars” Tuesday night.

The “Extra” TV correspondent was misty-eyed as host Tom Bergeron revealed that the vibrant couple would be the ones to leave, but she didn’t miss a beat thanking Hough for his continued support.

“I want to obviously thank Derek because I wouldn’t have gotten this far without his awesome choreography,” she said. “I love him and I can’t thank him enough for making this experience what it’s been for me.”

Video from Derek that I had trouble seeing for some reason – you should be able to see it now. And they remain as cute as ever!

Three Dances Planned For Next Week’s Dancing With The Stars Finals And More Hints

If you are like us this morning, you want to know everything you can about next week’s final dances on Dancing With The Stars. Let’s see what George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet found out in his interviews after the elimination….

First up, Peta is so happy she and Donald are in the finals. Donald wants to make her dream of winning come true. At the end of the day, he gets off the rollercoaster ride, but, it continues for her as a pro dancer. They talk of the freestyle and how it will knock George for a loop. “It will be filled with lots of surprises, lifts, and kicks”, says Peta. We’ll see Donald in a whole different light. Peta says she’s so lucky to have Donald because he works hard and is such a good guy. Donald says he is “determined”. If Peta gets a Mirror Ball, it will mean he will too. He wants to win the Superbowl for her.

Katherine speaks about all of her family, friend, and fan support which has been so helpful. Mark’s parents and his family in Texas love her too. Mark explains how the dances will take place next week. They have to dance three times possibly….two times on Monday for sure and maybe once on Tuesday. Quoting Mark, they “might not get to do the one on Tuesday”. Mark won’t give any hints on their freestyle. It will be ‘fun’ and they want to ‘blow it out the box’ and that’s all he will say.

Cheryl is absent from this interview. William says she’s at work on their freestyle. William says it will be fun. She likes to do different things and it won’t be boring. George asks William on his bucket list. He wants to do what he can for “his babies”…where “he sees his whole life”. He just wants to do his best for the finals and give it his all.

Access Hollywoord interviewed William and Mark & Katherine as well. William hopes he will have some Latin dances next week. He’s going to give it his all. Mark and Katherine are thankful they weren’t eliminated. They were so convinced they were going home.

SPOILERS!!! DWTS Season 14, Week 9 – Who’s Going to the Finale???

Well, there is a new pro on my least favorite list and it’s a woman. Guess. Which female pro was just nasty to both Derek and Donald, while claiming it doesn’t matter if William misses a step cuz he’s just so wonderful??

Delusional, thy name is Cheryl. Please, for your own reputation, take a break next season. Thank you.

In other news, they are doing the all star season, but it’s not how some of us hoped – it’s not going to be all good dancers, necessarily, but “controversial” characters in addition to past winners and others. Boo. Hope Derek is doing something else. I really don’t need to see Kate Gosselin or someone who won before win again.

Okay, white space to avoid spoilage done, who got eliminated?? Well, as soon as they called Katherine safe you had to know it was going to be Maria and Derek.  Because I am just too good this season.  🙂

Your finalists are somewhat unexciting, in my view, but I hope that either Katherine or Donald wins…now I just have to figure out who my votes go to to ensure William doesn’t win. And I think that person is Donald. As much as I like Katherine.

How did we do??

Heidi: I said it would be Maria and Katherine, with Katherine leaving. Second choice, obviously, was Maria leaving.

Courtney: Court had Katherine in the bottom position with William one up from her.

Vogue: Voguey said that Katherine was going home with Maria as a possibility.

Warning….I’ve had enough of crazy assed fans. So, if you are a Derek fan looking to excessively bitch and moan, I might delete you, even though I’m a Derek fan. If you are a fan of someone else only coming in here to gloat or cheer them leaving? I may just delete your ass too.  It’s week 9 and I’m tired of fangirls. Period.

Always fun!! They don’t dissappoint. Poor Katherine though. I feel sorry for her.

Also here are a few more interviews that came out later in the day from Extra and Afterbuzz TV….

DWTS Season 14, Week 8 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, last night was interesting and somewhat unexpected. I thought for sure they would low ball Maria and Donald to protect Willy. So, what is the deal? Either Maria and Derek are getting good buzz (read: ratings), or Willy is getting an ass ton of votes and no longer needs help. Or both. Mission accomplished. I would be mad over the over scoring except that every single couple was over scored (except Donald)…so it’s all relative. Katherine might have been if not for the weird issues at the end of her second dance. She’s so gorgeous and was so upset that I’m upset for her. I hope she’s okay.

Part of me thinks that perhaps the stress of all the dances up to this point is at the heart of Katherine (and Derek’s) problems. Rarely will you hear me say this, so pay attention. I agree with Maks nearly 100% on his most recent TV Guide Blog. I think the producers have lost sight of the fact that these are actual people involved in this show and not just ratings points.  When you have to start learning 3 full dances essentially 8 to 9 weeks after dancing for the first time it’s asinine. This is too much even for professional dancers – and these professionals are dancing with amateurs, which increases their own risk of injury. You think that Derek, Mark and others aren’t up to their usual standards in choreography? Well, what do you expect when by week 8 they have each choreographed 16 dances?? That is absolutely ridiculous.  Attention producers; we have now reached a point where the quality of dances suffers, people are getting hurt and, really, it’s not just much fun anymore. Jerkwads.  <— Heidi being polite and not using her words of choice.

Anyway, I could go on all night.

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Place Celebrity Score Percentage
1. Maria 59 25.65
2. William 58 25.22
3. Donald 57 24.78
4. Katherine 56 24.35

Well, on the face of it, it appears that Katherine is in trouble. And it’s warranted, based on her dances. But part of me is having some trouble with this, mainly because it just didn’t go how I expected it to go. So, I don’t know if I should be suspicious or if I should just take it on face value. But really, Katherine didn’t do all that well. So, I dunno. I thought Maria was over scored on her Jive, but I liked it. I thought William was overscored on both dances…and I was bored on both of them. Donald, I feel, is a much better dancer than William is and yet can’t get the scores that William does…but I don’t think he needs them. Like Courtney, I think he’s safe as hell. So, all things considered, no one was terribly screwed over and EVERYONE was overscored at one point, so it all comes out in the wash.

Katherine is at the bottom of the leaderboard and is now one of the walking wounded (and really, can Katherine, Maria or Derek actually DO a freestyle at this point?) – what does she need in order to stick around? Well, surprisingly, a good bit. Yeah, we have two dances…but we also have fewer dancers which means that the spread opens up a bit again.  Katherine needs ONE of the following in order to stick around:

–          Katherine needs 4,350 more votes per million votes cast than Donald, OR;

–          Katherine needs 8,700 more votes per million votes cast than William, OR;

–          Katherine needs 13,050 more votes per million votes cast than Maria.

That last one might just be the nail in Katherine’s coffin.  I still believe that it was between Katherine and Maria for the finale and those scores may have done her in. I don’t think she can beat either Donald or William – although I would very much love for her to be in the finale over William. She may be a technically better dancer than those left, but she is also the dancer who connects to her partner, the dance and the audience the least out of those left. And, like it or not, that COUNTS. So, it’s a toss up.

What about William and Donald? Well, I think Donald is safe, but let’s look how easy it would be for him to stay. Donald needs ONE of the following in order to make the finale:

–          Donald needs for Katherine to NOT cover the spread, OR;

–          Donald needs 4,350 more votes per million votes cast than William, OR;

–          Donald needs 8,700 more votes per million votes cast than Maria.

Personally, I think he’s getting all of the above. I don’t see him NOT winning this show if this sort of scoring keeps up. Does he have it in the bag?? Well, the judges and their crack pipes will have the ultimate say. Carrie Ann Innaba actually said, out loud, that Katherine’s quickstep was the best dance she’s seen on the show. That sort of hyperbole and idiotic statement can influence her own score, so if she scores Willy with her loins next week and Donald has one tiny slip?? Fuggetaboutit.  :::sigh:::

William. Really, people complain about Maria being overscored when William is in the top 4? Silly. Anyway, William will likely be, unfortunately, safe. Where there are two judges scoring with genitalia, there are likely to be some cray cray female’s doing exactly the same thing.  William needs the following to be safe:

–          William needs Katherine to not cover the spread (8,700 votes), OR;

–          William needs Donald to not cover the spread (4,350 votes), OR;

–          William needs 4,350 more votes per million votes cast than Maria.

Unfortunately, I think William beats everyone but Donald. I would SO love to be wrong and see him get the boot, but I don’t see it happening, mainly due to Katherine.

Maria? I think she’s safe, but you just never know. With the games that the producers and the judges have been playing this season, it’s entirely possible that they are setting Maria up for a shocking elimination tomorrow night. But I don’t think Katherine can get those votes. Hard to say. Honestly, it hurt to watch Maria and Derek dance – I can’t believe Derek did some of what he did with Maria in either dance, after reading about how he was hurt.  Geez, people, yer killin’ me.  Anyway, what would it take for Maria to be eliminated?? ALL of the following have to happen:

–          Katherine has to get 13,050 more votes per million votes cast than Maria, AND;

–          Donald has to get 8,700 more votes per million votes cast than Maria, AND;

–          William has to get 4,350 more votes per million votes cast than Maria.

Donald and William are probably doing that with some ease, but Katherine? I don’t think so. As a result, I think we still come down to Katherine and Maria, with Katherine going home. If not Katherine, then Maria. Being in the top spot this late in the game can lead to complacency and complacency is trouble. I wouldn’t be shocked by Maria OR Katherine.

Louis Van Amstel, Sherri Shepherd, and Val Chmerkovskiy Review Dancing With The Stars Week 9

In our second media posting today, let’s get Louis Van Amstel’s take on the last night’s dances at ABC. Surprisingly, Louis didn’t think any of the dances last night deserved a “10”. WHA?? Below is his overall opinion. For his individual takes, be sure to visit the link.

Overall: Even though I appreciate Len’s words tonight about this Jive lacking content yet him loving it anyway, in past weeks when people were entertaining but lacked content he would tear them part. That is not fair. I’ve never said this before but tonight all performances were “9s,” in my opinion. Everyone did a good job tonight, but no “10s” for me tonight. The video packages are so heartfelt that it is difficult to criticize the celebrities knowing how much hard work they put into tonight. But honestly it was no one’s best performance. BUT it is fun to know that the mirrorball trophy can be anyone’s this season. And your votes really count this season! With all of these “9s” and “10s,” the viewers’ votes will make the decision.

What do you think? I have to disagree. I thought William’s 2nd dance, Maria’s 1st dance, and both of Donald’s deserved 10’s? He’s spot on about Len and his scoring though. Sometimes he nitpicks and sometimes he doesn’t….or is it favoritism or manipulation?

Next up, Val Chmerkovskiy and Sherri Shepherd were guests on Good Morning America today to review the show and reveal their favorites. I haven’t watched this interview yet since I’m having some connection issues today, but you can watch it here.

Here’s to the results tonight. Prepare for it to be a painful elimination as they are all so good. 🙁

A Special Announcement Planned For Tonight On Dancing With The Stars And More Media

Wow, will we ever forget Season 14’s Semi-finals on Dancing With The Stars? I don’t think I ever will. Let’s get the couples reactions from George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet. Note in Derek’s interview how George mentions a special announcement taking place tonight on the show. He asks, “Could it be about the “All-star Season”? What could it be? UPDATE: Entertainment TV just confirmed an All-star season of Dancing With The Stars for next Fall. Thanks to Vin and Jeff for this news.

First up, below is Mark with an update on Katherine’s injury and what happened. He also talks of how your mind goes black when something like that happens on the show. He hopes they make it to the finals and he mentions some goals if they do. He also says they had a good run if they have to go home.

George tells Maria she has “Grandma” feet. They talk of their top scores last night and why they deserve to be in the finals. Derek said Maria been tough no matter what’s been thrown at her and she’s improved the most since the beginning. Maria she has loved doing Dancing With The Stars more than anything she’s ever done. As said before, George also talks about how the show is making a special announcement tonight.

Peta says the fans should keep them in the show because they’ve worked so hard. They also plan to go out with the biggest bang in their freestyle if they get to continue. They have a lot of tricks planned.

George asks William on his “butt shake” last night and he doesn’t know. LOL! He loved all of his family support last night. They make him a ‘better person’ not a ‘better dancer’. If the fans want them to stay, they will. If they have to go, they know atleast they’ve done the best they could. Cheryl says she’s had a “partnership” with William this season.

DWTS 14 Week 9 Power Rankings

Well kids, I’m back after a few days in Vegas, with a few fun stories to tell (be on the lookout for my review of the DWTS Live in Las Vegas show later this week!), but first, let me get back into the swing of things with this week’s power rankings – I’m gonna try and keep tonight’s kinda short, as I still seem to be suffering the effects of the time difference…or just burnout.  Vegas is tiring!

Overall, feeling a bit ho-hum about tonight – no truly stand-out performances; some overscoring going on across the board, likely to keep the margins close; and an overall lack of content in the bulk of the Latin dances (with the exception of Donald).  Not exactly the nail-biting semifinal I was hoping for, but thankfully, it was only 90 minutes, which may actually give me a chance to catch part of the Hawaii 5-0 finale or America’s Got Talent premiere before dozing off 😛

1.) Donald & Peta – After tonight, the only thing I feel fairly confident in saying is that Donald is a shoo-in for the finale, based on fanbase alone – and that’s even with the 2nd lowest score of the night.  I don’t think there has ever been a more LIKEABLE contestant to do the show – seriously, I grow to love Donald more and more every week.  And doggonit, some of the Pack FINALLY came out to support him tonight! Loved seeing Aaron Rodgers in the audience, cheering for “Quickie” 🙂 I liked his waltz, but didn’t love it – the music was throwing me a bit, as it actually seemed to make him look kind of off-time, even though he wasn’t.  His posture does seem to be improving, though, and he seemed to really connect to the emotion of the dance.  His samba was actually my favorite dance of the night – I think it was the only Latin dance tonight that truly had a lot of real content, and I loved that they opted to go a different route than the standard “shake your ass as much as you can, and we’ll just call it samba” route.  It had a storyline, it was different, and it was cute.  My only complaint? Donald seems to stutter a bit when getting back into hold from being out of hold – he seemed to miss a few hand leads with Peta, and she ended up finishing them herself.  Overall, I think they had a pretty damn good night, and I (knock on wood) don’t foresee any big problems with them making the finale.

2.) Maria & Derek – I’m surprised about these two for 2 reasons: despite some pretty bad injuries, they managed to crank out 2 dances that didn’t completely suck, and the judges didn’t lowball them.  If anything, I think they actually overscored them a bit – I don’t think their Argentine tango was even close to being as good as their paso doble, although the choreography was great and Maria didn’t mess any of it up; she just seemed to dance it very cautiously, though, and her legs looked pretty soft – kinda expected for a dance done on such broken feet, but I can’t really overlook it.  I did love the beginning of it, though, with just their feet visibile under the curtain…kind of a nice twist.  I wasn’t too keen on their jive, for the simple reason that there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of jive actually in it – again, likely an attempt to baby Maria’s injuries, but I can’t really give it a free pass.  Maria seemed extra cautious in this dance, as the actual jive steps she did didn’t really have much bounce to them.  Plus I’m just getting kinda sick and tired of that damn “Tightrope” song – they use it in the DWTS Vegas show, too, and I don’t really like it there, either.  Not really a fan of their jive, but I can’t say it was terrible, either – it was adequate. Overall, I think the judges were awfully kind to them tonight – I like them as a couple, but tonight wasn’t their A-game.  However, I think their high score (though still decently close to pretty much everyone else) will likely usher them into the finale, since going into this week I really saw Maria & Katherine duking it out for the 3rd spot in the finale (along with Donald & William) in terms of votes…and although I’m not so sure now that William has the finale all tied up, I do think Maria has done enough to make her untouchable to at least Katherine, which basically ensures she’s in the finale.  I think we’re in for another Hough freestyle – here’s hoping that Derek finds a way to work around their collective injuries and redeem himself a bit from his so-so freestyle with Ricki last season!

3.) William & Cheryl – William seems to have worked on his posture in ballroom, but now I see his footwork suffering.  That tango looked more like a paso at times – a little too stompy or marchy, and once again, Cheryl seemed to be doing all of the work.  There was a lot of William standing in place and moving Cheryl from side-to-side…and the big drawback to that is that Cheryl tends to backlead, so she looks like she’s moving too dramatically for the amount of force William is leading her with.  If the guy looks like he’s not leading hard and the woman’s moving hard, it basically screams “she’s doing all the work”.  Not good.  Overall, it wasn’t a bad tango – he didn’t mess up and the character was there – but it wasn’t really great, either.  As for their samba – *sigh*.  Content, people – CONTENT!!! I’m honestly shocked that Len didn’t call them out for a lot of “messing about” and “excessive gyration” in this dance – I thought Donald’s had far more content and far better bounce.  This seemed to be more about ass-shaking and walking from place to place than actual samba steps…yet it got a 30.  *shrug* I gave up last week, so I’m not going to even try this week…guess they need William around for the finale in order to really drive this ABC merger home.  Due to scoring, I think William going home is probably not a HUGE possibility, but I also have to wonder if he’s a whole lot better off in the votes than Katherine – in terms of combined score, I think William might be the only one Katherine might have a chance of catching up to.  Will be intersting to see if she actually does it…

4.) Katherine & Mark – Oy…just not a whole lot to say about these two tonight that I haven’t already said in previous weeks.  I found their quickstep to be rather bland – not just in terms of entertainment, but for once I actually saw Katherine get a bit tentative & hesitant in her choreography.  Some of the bouncing around seemed awfully timid – like Maria’s jive.  There was nothing glaringly WRONG with their quickstep, but it just didn’t seem to make a ton of impact…it was ok, but not great or terribly memorable.  Sorry, but I thought their salsa was bizarre mess – another dance suffering from a noticeable lack of content, and Katherine seemed to be struggling to keep up – and whatever happened at the end that made her freak out just made me cringe, as it seemed like the final nail in the coffin for Katherine on an off-night.  She’s at the bottom of the leaderboard now, and I while the spread seems pretty close, I don’t think she has a prayer of beating Donald (the next person up) in votes, or Maria in combined score – the only person I could see her POSSIBLY catching up to in order to earn herself a spot in the finale is William, and I think ultimately his fans will come through and keep him in for the finale – which may leave Katherine out in the cold…which sucks because I do think she’s the strongest dancer left technically, but she also seems to lack connection to the dance and the audience.  Kinda stinks that she’d be eliminated this close to the finale, but hey – it happens every season, and the show still goes on.

So who you guys actually see moving onto the finale vs. who do you hope is moving onto the finale? 😉

Tom Bergeron Won’t Predict Who Will Win Dancing With The Stars Season 14

Need a Dancing With The Stars fix before showtime? What better way to do so than with host Tom Bergeron and Entertainment Weekly? Tom discusses how difficult last week was with the double elimination. He also talks of how he plays off incidents with his humor. He won’t predict who will win this season when he’s asked as predicted, but, he highlights the good things about each contestant this season and what it’s like behind the scenes for them. Mirror Ball Or Not, William Levy Feels Like He Is A Winner For Doing Dancing With The Stars

William tells Extra, he and Cheryl are their biggest competition. They have been “laughing” a lot getting ready for their next dances…so much so, he cried. No matter what happens, he feels like a winner already for doing the show even if he doesn’t win. Cute interview!
