Dancing With The Stars Judge To be Announced On GMA Thursday
Just a TV heads up! Tomorrow (Thursday) Good Morning America will be announcing a judge for Dancing With The Stars Season 19. Could this be Julianne Hough as rumored? *keeps fingers crossed*
Thanks to @Jahfan1 for this news. She saw it during a commercial during the show today.
So, all eyes on tomorrow. WOO HOO!
ETA: Apparently, the commercial said something about ‘sexy’ and they also showed a ‘woman’ dancing behind a screen. Fascinating. Thanks to Linz for the heads up!!!
Woo, great thing that I don’t teach tomorrow and I’ll be able to watch it. Fingers crossed it’s Julianne, I’m so excited to read all the non-sense Maksyl world is going to pull out :D!
Man, they are really milking all this for all it’s worth, aren’t they? Either Maks or Julianne….this is kinda getting out of hand.
Remember…the show is about the DANCERS, Celebrity and otherwise.
So true Heidi!!
So does this mean the show will be making the judges a bigger part of the show this season? Last season it was all about Maks. I think the producers are losing their focus. I hope I am wrong. I watch the show for the dancing.
Crap, is it really a 4th judge as in 4 on the panel at the same time or a 4th judge as in a filler for Len when he’s gone. Ugh. I hope it’s the latter. I can’t believe they’re going to take away from the celebrities for a useless 4th judge. Oh wait, yes I can.
I really agree with everything that is being said here. I was all for the pros getting the recognition they deserve, but why this big production for the judges? Focus more on dance and the journey of the celeb please!
Maybe a it far-fetched but does anyone think it’s possible that Julianne will be a permanent fourth judge… and Maks, a guest on the weeks Len sits out?
Having both on the panel in certain moments of the show will surely set of sparks and controversies. Ultimate tabloid material.
Well, one way of looking at it is that it’s a detour and makes good promo and buzz for the show right now while they try and keep the celebs under wraps as much as they can.
The preseason madness is a little ridiculous. I Think were quickly moving over the shark
I much prefer Julianne as a judge and I’m sure it’ll be her, but at the same time I was quite happy with the working formula of 3 judges.
Hi guys! Just wanted to say that from where I come from our Dancing with the stars panel has 4 judges..and how it works is (if I remember well)that on first weeks all 4 do not commet on each pair but 3 commet ( and they change those 3 for each couple so all 4 can say something…but all 4 give marks….I hope i was clear) and then near end when there is more time all 4 comment each couple and give scores.
I would love to see Jules as a permanent judge!! Cant wait for the season to start:-)
I am probably in the minority, and think a 4 judge format CAN work… IF they do it correctly, which they probably won’t. Each judge SHOULD be able to give a good constructive critique (without being mean) in about 20 seconds… Say it, and get on to the next, so that they’re only in front of the judges for just over a minute total. So, unless my math is WAY off, and it probably is, that would be about 20 minutes time allotted to the judges for each 2 hr episode on Mondays. I think that sounds more than fair. And it would give more time allotted to each couples for their package.
As for confessionals, it wasn’t the addition of a 4th judge that took them away, but the cancellation of the results show. If they were smart, they could easily have kept them, and put them into the beginning of each of the packages. I did like them, and wish they would either bring them back, or think of something else so we can better know each celebrity.

This doesn’t like such a bad idea to me, personally. I think a fourth judge could work if, as Lori said, they do it right. The format works very well in Strictly (though they have no commercial breaks so, probably not a good comparisson). If we get a fourth judge I only hope that all four of them give ACTUAL constructive criticism. Another judge means another person to help the celebrities get better but only if all three other stooges start giving actual advice and criticism.. but I somehow doubt this will happen. Either way, I hope there isn’t THAT much focus put on the judges. Let the stars steal the show on their own, please.
And I also am hoping he judge is Julianne (though I am thinking she is deff gonna be it). Yes, she is Derek’s sister and could be seen as biased, but she has proven to be a fair judge with good criticism’s (aside from the incidents with Mark and Maks, which, tbh, I didn’t think were as bad as some people made it out to be).
Unfortunately a 2-hour show nowadays is only 86-minutes long after commercials are removed. I have always disliked the rushed feel of the first few weeks, which I actually thought they handled better last season, although I can’t put my finger on how they did it.
I hate the thought of four judges, two or three probably saying the same thing and taking up more airtime or speed talking to get a few words in. The dances the first few weeks are already so short. Weren’t they about a minute? . We don’t get much background on the stars and they all have to get pushed through in about 6-minutes each, including their package, dancing, being judged and talking to Erin during scores. The last thing the show needs is 4 judges. As others have pointed out, it’s been a disaster for every show in the US that has tried it.
Maybe the show needs to forget the dancing the first week and just let us meet the stars and pros the first week, with Tom interviewing them and showing rehearsal clips.

If they can rein in CAI and Bruno, then perhaps it would work – but what are the odds?
As others mentioned, I am more curious how Julianne would impact CAI. I think no longer being the only female judge and now sharing that spotlight with a former pro may make her more insecure, I feel she already is a lot bc she doesn’t have ballroom background. Julianne has background in all the dances now in dwts including contemporary and jazz. I can see that making CAI even tougher on say lifts or some technical aspect to “match” Julianne. Mark and Maks fans aside who were upset, you listen to her comments to everyone, she is constructive and not mean. Or vague but giving celebs and pro specific things to work on. Think she might raise the game for the other judges similar to what Misty did for sytycd,
Pish. She’s no more “mean” than CAI, Len or Bruno have been on occasion – Maks fans (and to a lesser extent, Mark fans) just have their knickers in a twist because she’s a former pro and they feel shouldn’t be able to judge them. If that’s true for her, it should also be true for Maks. And all this “Maks is a certified judge of ballroom” crap is just that – CRAP. BFD – this ain’t a ballroom competition, for one thing, it’s a REALITY show. And Maks is the LEAST qualified person around to judge contemporary and jazz – Julianne has him beat by miles on that one.
The funny thing to me is what she said is what others have said for years about both of them. Again, just pointing out, both seemed to address it even though on camera said they were salty about it. So say whatever you want, at least they were better for it. Only Mark fans say he doesn’t outdanced his partners. I mean DanceCenter made a funny segment about how Mark makes it all about him. Until that week, people were saying how they wanted Maks to do more with Meryl. How Val showed Maks up with the choreo, etc. Maybe phoning it was the wrong phase. But considering how many times Maks ( this is my show) put his foot in his mouth, he shouldn’t known the intent of Julianne’s comments.
Remembering Julianne’s comments for other dancers, they are solid. And you can tell she watched other weeks to give a fair assessment. Her comment to Corbin, she praised Karina’s choreo, how he didn’t need gimmicks and she loved it. Then pointing out one thing he could do and Corbin’s response seemed to be like, yeah Karina said it too. She even praised Tony’s choreo and work with Candace. Good advice to Snooki on her jive while CAI said she had T-Rex arms. Talk about insulting. Yet people took two valid opinions and turn it into Julianne is bias, mean etc. Yeah versus Maks backhanded compliment and flat out saying Amber you will win bc your pro is good at packaging you. Not that she deserved it on her merit, which she did and rightfully won.
the less this show is about the judges, the better. let’s keep focused on the celebs, the partnerships, and the dancing. While I hope these stuttered announcements are a ploy to keep our attention focused on them and less on who this season’s roster will be. Once again, things have been pretty quiet, although it’s a tad early still.
I don’t really mind there being 4 judges, but as everyone here has already said, if done right. we have a new producer, so i have renewed hope that some semblance of our beloved dancing show is returning. Fingers crossed he’ll get it right.
looking forward to another fun season, and to meeting the new additions to the Pro line up.
Julianne just tweeted she is going to be on GMA tomorrow for a big announcement. Guess she got the job!
I actually hoped it was Shirley Ballas. There is a lady they could all learn from
It’s Julianne, she basically confirmed it on Twitter. I’m excited, I love to see her as a judge! 🙂
#15 I don’t think that she was being biased toward Mark. You gotta remember, she did train with Mark under his parents for a time.
There is a lady they’ve all ALREADY learned from.
Wouldn’t that be hilarious if it wound up being Julianne introducing Shirley Ballas as the new judge. The old fake-out. Now that would be worth it!
Then Julianne and and/or Maks fill in for Len. But I doubt DWTS will be that clever. Or Shirley could fill in for Len. Or……..come on announcement!
Something similar occurred to me, Ashley. Like Julianne introducing Maks as the new judge, making all those fans look foolish. But I don’t think they are that clever. I think the vast majority of the viewers aren’t on social media non-stop and probably really don’t know who the new judge is going to be.
Yeah Heidi, I agree – as superfans, we have a skewed view of the show’s general audience. Most aren’t on Twitter or fan sites, so this kind of announcement will be news to them.
