Dancing With The Stars Has Been Renewed And More Dancing News And Tidbits

Hi All! Sorry I haven’t posted lately. I can’t keep up with my life currently as a lot of people, but, it’s all good…especially with the renewal of Dancing With The Stars. Bruno talks a little about it below. You can view more tidbits on the pros (and former pros) below. Love is in the air….and not so much too. I was so sad to read on Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich’s break up. I thought they’d be together forever. There is baby news and music news as well. And, of course, don’t miss lot’s of updates on Derek Hough at Pure Derek Hough. Special thanks to Linz for helping a girl out as always. xxx

Dancing With The Stars Pros And Former Pros Dance And Sing On “Disney Family Singalong: Volume II” (Videos)

What a fun night on Disney Family’s Singalong: Volume II. Dancing with the Stars Pros Lindsay Arnold, Alan Bersten, Witney Carson, Val Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson, Sasha Farber and Emma Slater were part of the performance of ‘Zero To Hero’ from Disney’s ‘Hercules’. Not only that, former pros Hayley Erbert, Julianne Hough, and Derek Hough sang and danced to ‘Step In Time’ from Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ (if they don’t get an Emmy for this, I’ll be surprised! Wowza). Watch below!!

“Best of Dancing with the Stars” as Alternative Programming??

Well, I happened on this today and I must say, it sounds like a damn good idea to me!! Especially if they go all the way back to Season 5. 🙂  This article from Hollywood Reporter will make you think, though, about what happens if COVID19 goes on as long as I think it will go on. Sad to say, I don’t think we’re all going to be back at work in June without a resurgence of the virus – so what does that do to TV??  See the title of this article. 🙂  Here’s an excerpt where the idea is floated:

Another option that multiple networks are currently considering is to take a page from late night and repackage repeats with new content that appeals to diehard fans. ABC recently announced a “Flashback Friday” of sorts for long-running soap General Hospital, with new introductions to classic episodes. ABC, sources say, is also considering airing themed repeats — like a “best-of” Dancing With the Stars or some of its other franchises.

I vote DWTS!! Seeing skinny Derek dancing with Jennie or Lil Kim (among others) would certainly brighten up my isolation! Of course, World of Dance season 4 was completed right before the shutdown (sans audience for the finale), so there’s that.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Sharna Burgess and Cheryl Burke Chat On The Future Of Dancing With The Stars

Sharna Burgess and Cheryl Burke talked with ET about the social distancing during the coronavirus as well as the future of Dancing With The Stars. Like them, let’s hope the return of the show will happen this Fall. I hope for the return of Sharna as well …and she’s open to the idea….

“I have no idea what’s going on to be quite honest, but I think everyone is just living it day by day and we will see what happens,” Burke told ET’s Katie Krause. “I think there is a creative way of doing things. Everyone is really into taking 15-minute classes. I think we have to go with the flow when it comes to changing. This is our world evolving and we must evolve. I know change is hard and I know for me, too, you have to just surrender.”

“I’m hoping [we’ll be back on time]. Right now I keep hearing May and June,” she added, regarding news updates on when the quarantine period is expected to be over. “My birthday is May 3 and that’s fine. My anniversary is May 23 and that’s fine. As long as we can do another season of Dancing With the Stars, I’m willing to give all of that up.”

Burke also offered up some suggestions on what ABC could do in the meantime to keep fans of the dance competition show entertained while quarantined.

“I’d love to see reruns of Dancing With the Stars in the meantime. Just prepping everybody!” she said. “Like, gosh, my first season was 14 years ago, so I think people need a good ol’ recap.”

“You could go through a whole throwback basically,” she added. “You would just play an episode every day up until this is over.”

Burgess shared similar hopes, telling ET, “As far as I know, Dancing is planning on going ahead with their fall season, but these things change week to week right now.”

“I certainly hope that there is a way to figure it out because I think the world needs that kind of fun, carefree, loving show that’s just about seeing people do good and overcoming adversity. And dancing! Which brings everybody joy. So I hope that there’s an opportunity to put that show on,” she continued. “The show must go on! If we can’t do it in the form that it exists in, I am sure that the creative team over there and the wonderful producer team will figure out how to make it work in fitting with all the guidelines. But that’s also what’s so crazy; this is like the new normal for a while.”

Burgess, who was cut from season 28 of the show alongside fellow pro Artem Chigvintsev, also told ET that she would be more than happy to come back.

“I certainly miss it. And now, especially being away, I miss all my friends,” admitted Burgess, who has been living alone in her home country of Australia since January. “I haven’t seen them in so long. I would love to be back but it hasn’t been a conversation. They haven’t asked me yet. I’m sure they’ve got a lot more things to worry about than whether I’m going to be coming back or not.”

Dancing With The Stars Live Tour 2020 – POSTPONED

As so many other events currently in the world, ABC announced on Friday that all remaining dates of the Dancing With The Stars Live Tour has been postponed because of the spread of COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus. Below is more from ET….

“Our top priority has been and will continue to be the health and well-being of the Dancing With the Stars: Live! cast, crew and fans. On that note, we are incredibly sad to announce that the Dancing With the Stars: Live! 2020 Tour will be postponed for the remainder of the tour effective Friday March 13 due to the concerns surrounding the current global health situation,” ABC shared in a statement to ET. “This decision comes following the guidance of medical professionals, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and both national and local governments.”

“All tickets purchased for shows between March 13 through April 7 will be honored for the rescheduled dates once announced. Purchasers will be notified in the coming weeks with details about the rescheduled show dates,” the statement continued. “On behalf of the entire Dancing With the Stars: Live! family, we thank you for your support and hope to see you very soon.”

Maks & Val LIVE 2020 Tour Featuring Jenna Johnson and Peta Murgatroyd!!

Such great news for the fans of Maks & Val Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson and Peta Murgatroyd. The four are hitting the road on a new “Motion Pictures” tour stopping at 57 cities beginning in June. The tour will also feature special guests to help create their movie theme. Below is more from ET Online

“It’s all the usual things Maks and Val are known for, but with a twist, and that’s the motion pictures [aspect],” Maks teased. “We’re trying to see what it would be like if that iconic scene [from a movie] had a dance attached to it. Like The Godfather, Scarface, Terminator.”

“You can expect an amazing show, full of joy and comedy and sexiness and a lot of awesomeness,” Val added. “We obviously went with the famous dance movies, like Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, but we also put in movies that we just love to watch and obviously have impacted people across the world on a human level. When Harry Met Sally, stories like that. Gripping stories.”

Val shared that they “don’t want to give too much away” just yet, but said that all the films featured through dance on the tour are movies that “people love” and have enjoyed over the years.

“We’ve just kind of given it our own little twist and infused dance and music into it,” he revealed. “Old and new. We got the old classics and the new classics.”

“The best part about going on tour is that we get to share our magic. This love, this genuine authenticity with our fans and everybody in the audience,” he continued. “I think for those that have been to our [previous] shows, they could feel that energy on stage and it reflects in our work. There’s this love and pride and loyalty, but there’s also a great deal of generosity and I think that’s at the core of why I love being a performer. I know that’s why Maks loves to perform.”

I would love to see this. For ticket information and more, see Maks & Val Live 2020. Tickets go on sale on FRIDAY, March 13th!!

Charlie Sheen, A Political Contestant, And A Same Sex Couple For DWTS 29?

Is it possible we may see same a Same Sex couple for Dancing With The Stars Season 29? According to Blast.com via The Sun the possibility is real. Steven Price, a former producer, talks of how there will be at least one same-sex couple competing on the dance floor….

“Because this day and age you cannot control love,” Price told The Sun. “You cannot control who or whom you love, so you have got to support it You cannot condemn someone just because they love someone of the same sex. That is who they love — support it. As long as they are not hurting each other.”

“The Midwest is changing their dynamic now,” Price continued, admitting that some viewers might not like the idea of a same-sex couple on the show. “They are changing. They are being more open to it because they are being introduced to it.. love is love. The chemistry all the same. Same-sex, it just brings a different twist to it, because that’s something that needs to be addressed and out there.”

Also, let’s keep our eye on Charlie Sheen as a possible contestant for upcoming season. According to Rob Mills, ABC Entertainment’s senior VP of alternative series, specials and late-night programming, he would still love to see Charlie dance. The Producers would “never say never to another political contestant either….

“I don’t think it’s a huge secret because he came out and talked about it, but I would still love Charlie Sheen to come on.”

“I found him to be one of the nicest, most charming people,” Mills says of Sheen. “He is just a born entertainer and I think people would love to see him, but it may not be for him. What I really found very sweet about him is he basically said, ‘I really don’t dance. I’ve got two left feet.’ So there’s a real sweetness and vulnerability, which would be really fun to showcase on the show.

“I think you never say never to anything,” Mills added while addressing the controversy around having Sean Spicer as a contestant last season. “We would never say never to someone in politics. We would look at anything, potentially, if it were good for the show.”

I say “yes” to all the above ideas. What do you think? Let us know in comments.
