PureDWTS Season 28/DWTS Juniors Season 2 Update: New Producers, Pro/Troupe Auditions, New Schedule?
After a seemingly endless period of no news, it looks like we’re finally getting some movement behind-the-scenes on season 28 of DWTS and season 2 of Juniors. Per a source…
DWTS now has new executive producers at the helm – no idea who exactly, but apparently Ashley & Joe are out. I’m guessing we’ll be hearing more after fall up-fronts next week…
Invitation-only auditions for pro/troupe on DWTS were held last week, so we may be seeing some new faces on the show come fall. Veteran pros did not have to re-audition.
Juniors season 2 is no-go for the summer/fall, but is tentatively being pushed to a mid-season slot – think Jan/Feb of next year, which I think is actually a perfect slot to try because most regular-season shows are on hiatus at that time. That mid-season slot worked wonders for The Masked Singer; it could be a good vehicle for Juniors, too.
As I mentioned earlier, we’re probably going to see DWTS news pick up a bit after up-fronts next week – likely a tentative premiere date, season length, and of course, the names of the new EP’s. Thoughts? 🙂
The show desperately needed a shake up. So good move.
I do wonder if they might move it to Sundays with Juniors gone
I like new pros. I just don’t like the drama, the fake romances, the lack of dance content, the super short dances… I’m may be sounding nostalgic because I AM. hehehe There’s at least a couple years that we have no good season in the main franchise. DwtS Kids was a breath of fresh air to me, because there I could accept non ballroom dances… (can’t deny I’m a purist about this… I just love ballroom… and I’m tired of that jazz/contemp/gimmicks/whatever dances) Want to see dances from a pro as good as Karina, old times Derek, and as passionate as Maksim paired with a nice star, you know… I don’t need a big drama soap opera. I just need good dance. This should be all the time in first place.
I know its still early but I am hoping dwts goes back to two seasons next year not really feeling idol . I hope season 28 is worth the wait .I know there will probably be a lot of shakeups.
for the sake of the show, i think dwts fans would love if the pro lineup included derek, mark, maks, val, sasha, and then someone new.
for women, karina, cheryl, sharna, peta, witney/lindsay, emma.
just a thought. i think there’s something about nostalgia and love for those past pros that would help the show. ppl loved the pros from the 2000s
I think the show needs a ton of revamp after the disaster that was season 27
I wondered when I saw Ashley Edens listed as a Creative Director on Derek’s current tour.
I’m hoping for some good changes this fall. The last two seasons really dragged this show down. There’s a lot of things I’m curious about, mainly will the pro line up get a shake up and will they cast more ringers (or at least try to avoid casting the Bobby and Joe’s). With new EPs, I hope this show doesn’t try to add more gimmicks, more dance styles, and more themes. I’d like to see less theme weeks (especially taking a break from Disney, but I’m guessing that’s an ABC thing), different celeb type that we either haven’t had cast yet or maybe haven’t had many of. I also fail to see the point of the troupe anymore. Back in the day, especially with results show, it made more sense. I’d also like to see them not use every troupe member and available eliminated pro in dances. I still remember Alexis and Alan’s jive last year, and I couldn’t even pick her out at first because of all the extras.
I do hope Juniors winds up getting a second season. Mid season might be good for it.
The pros that have been gone for awhile would most likely not come back. I would love to see some of them, but I don’t see it happening. Something needs to be done about the voting. I’m all for getting rid of the viewer votes and leave it to the judges if the manipulation can become a thing of the past. I know it won’t happen but i wouldn’t mind. Last season was a disaster and I don’t think the show could go through another one. Bobby wasn’t the best dancer and didn’t deserve to win. He was a goofball that floated through. And I’m tired of hearing “it’s (enter pros name here) season to win. He/she hasn’t won yet.” Just because you haven’t won doesn’t mean the next season should be handed to you. I know Sharna must have worked hard, but deep down, I have to believe she knows they didn’t deserve the win. Idol needs to permanently be done. It had it’s time but that time is over. The next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood will not be found. The winners get 15 minutes of fame and then drop out of sight. It should never have been brought back.
What carlos(#2) said!
At first, I thought we might be getting some new pros for troupe but it has occurred to me that those might have been for potential contestants which worries me.
@cindy: I don’t blame Idol. It’s still entertaining. I blame Bobby and the way he used that radio show and twitter to get his fanbase every week. Not that I don’t think that other contestants have used what they had at the time to get more voters over the years but he did that a little too well.
@Cindy-totally agree with your comments on Idol. I’m wondering if ABC is regretting their high pay day to Katy Perry, because most places online I’ve seen she seems like a laughingstock. Idol is pretty much what it was on FOX, so if they rebooted it, I was hoping for something different and extra. I don’t think it was worth bringing back, it’s not like it’s ratings are spectacular, and it may have hurt DWTS, which was performing well for ABC.
What I disliked most about Bobby was his attitude, toward people he didn’t like and especially mocking the other contestants (especially those who clearly were better dancers than him). Of all the great partners Sharna has had, it’s crazy that Bobby is the one she won with. I do think that having pros on every season for many years has its pros and cons, mainly that there is a mentality among some pro fan bases that they have to win and they will vote for them regardless. I love many of the pros we currently have, but wouldn’t mind a shake up. Whether it’s bringing back past pros or new ones, I do think the show has gotten stale and repetitive every season. The pro numbers all blend together, most of the dances are forgettable by the end of the season (for me anyway, but yet I can remember dances very well from season 4). I will be curious what, if any, changes are made for next season.
I hope they get Derek Hough and Mark ballas back for season 28 dwts dwts needs. To get more ratings so it can be on next spring please dwts. Derek Hough and Jennifer Lopez Mark ballas and Jennifer anstion
Unfortunately, the show is dead without Derek and Mark. It’s so sad to see my former favorite show on TV taken over by the obnoxious Fam.

I think Camila Cabello would be a great contestant for the show!
