PureDWTS Season 28’s Mary Wilson Passes Away Suddenly
Sorry to report that we’re going to need yet another commemorative star on the dance floor next season – season 28 contestant Mary Wilson has passed away, per People:
Mary Wilson, a founding member of The Supremes, has died. She was 76.
On Monday evening, Wilson — who made up the first arrangement of The Supremes alongside Diana Ross and Florence Ballard — died at her home in Las Vegas, her publicist Jay Schwartz confirmed to multiple outlets.
Wilson’s cause of death was not immediately clear but Schwartz added in a statement to CNN that she “passed away suddenly.”
According to Schwartz, funeral services for Wilson will be private due to restrictions and protocols amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but there will be a public memorial later this year.
I still maintain that Mary had a lot more to show us on her season, and that the judges messed up big time when they opted to save Ray Lewis and send Mary home first. Her “Baby Love” foxtrot was darling:
And she and Brandon seemed to really have a nice bond, which showed in her dances (even when she maybe didn’t exactly remember her choreo):
Rest in power, Mary. You left us far too soon 🙁
RIP, Mary, my favorite Supreme! Her old autobiography, Dreamgirls, is a good read if you haven’t read it yet. I agree that she had more to show us on DWTS – would’ve been nice to get 1 or 2 more weeks of Mary.
Mary will be missed very much in my home of Seattle. A couple years ago the Museum of Pop Culture featured an amazing exhibit of Mary’s gowns from the Supremes. My old landlord used to tell stories about how Mary was known for being a big supporter of the local gay community. She really walked the talk.
I was so sad to hear this news. 2021 has been rough already when it comes to celebrity deaths. In her short stint on the show, Mary seemed like a lot of fun-I really wish she had made it further, especially considering the guy she went home over ended up dropping out the following week. RIP to an absolute legend.
2021 ain’t fun. Cloris, Mary, Hal, Christopher all taken from us. Mary was a life force and full of energy. Still think she shouldn’t have gone first.
