DWTS Season 10 – “Scaled Back”
Well, these guys learn from their mistakes, it appears. From Access Hollywood:
ABC announced on Tuesday that the dancing reality competition would return to the small screen with a two-hour season premiere on Monday March 22.
ABC Entertainment Group President Stephen McPherson told reporters at the Television Critics Association panel for the network on Tuesday that the show would be scaled back upon its return.
He told reporters the show would feature fewer celebrity contestants this time around as there were too many last season.
“We had some lucky breaks [with] people dropping out the last time,” he added.
While I think it’s fantastic that they’re cutting the cast, that also means that four or five (likely four) pros will not have a job come February 22 or so. If you were to bet, which pros don’t make a return?? I will guess Anna D., Anna T., Jonathan and Alec. Once upon a time I would have said Louis, but not after last season. That said, a lot is contingent on the celebs – if they get too many tall women, then Louis might not be around. If they get a really tall guy, Anna D. might have a job after all – if she does, which female is in trouble?
We also have to keep in mind that we don’t know which pros are still under contract – what if (god forbid) Derek, Mark and Maks all decide to move on? They all seem to be pretty active doing other things. I think the women are a bit more likely to stick around, but Cheryl seems to be building a nice empire. However, the success of her empire seems like it would be more guaranteed by her appearance on DWTS.
The Futon Critic has a copy of the official ABC press release (Thanks to Jennifer in the comments for pointing it out):

ABC CELEBRATES THE TENTH SEASON PREMIERE OF “DANCING WITH THE STARS,” MONDAY, MARCH 22ABC kicks off the tenth season of the hit reality series “Dancing with the Stars” with a huge two-hour premiere, MONDAY, MARCH 22 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network, as an all star cast of celebrities and their professional dance partners will hit the floor with two hours of dancing.
In week two, all of the couples will return and try to outshine each other once again in a two-hour show, MONDAY, MARCH 29 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET). The team with the lowest combined judges’ scores and public votes for both performances will be eliminated from the competition on the first results show, TUESDAY, MARCH 30 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET). Viewers may cast their votes via phone and online at www.abc.com.
The all-star cast will be announced a late date.

They need to have fewer couples. There’s no doubt about that. Although, you’re right that it is kind of unfortunate that it also means that a number of pros will be without a job on the show.
you know Heidi I’m getting more and more nervous since we don’t know for sure that derek is going to be a pro in the up coming season, I sure hope he is.
I like anna T. ,she is funny, i hope they keep her.
Oe, I know. I saw his tweet last night – going to London to choreograph a music video for Cheryl Cole he mentioned several days ago, but last night he said he had “a lot of work” over there. What does that mean? If he’s going to be a pro on Season 10, he needs to be here by February 22, I would guess. I guess that’s still a ways away – but it’s still a little nerve wracking.
After this past season, I like her too – but unfortunately for her, she doesn’t appear to have the draw of the other ladies.
Its good to cut back but their is a ways to go before the 22nd of March… plus keep in mind they are seaching for fresh talent so that could be in the form of an ex-SYTYCD contestant or a young dancer out of the blue also I doubt Derek, Maks, or Mark will leave I think Mark’s contract expired b4 season 8 yet he’s there upon request. As for Derek & Maks I think they have an extended warranty, if you will, so the prospect of departure of them seems less likely- not to mention there tends to be more female celebs rather than male.
I doubt very much that Derek and Mark’s contracts were different simply because they signed at the same time. Extended warranty? What, if they break you can return them – doesn’t make sense. Explain please.
I have a suspicion that they had five season contracts, mainly because Derek gave the softest answer EVER when asked if he would be back and because Julianne left after five seasons – and you know they would have kept her if they could. I guess we’ll see – I’ll be watching to see what Derek does after he finishes choreography for Cheryl Cole’s music video in London. Does he come back or does he have something else going on over there? One of his recent tweets made it seem like the latter.
Heidi, by extended warrenty I mean their contracts will soon expire & it seems they have a fleeting intrest in renewing them (Like an extended warranty would cover a lost or damaged product by replacing the said item) … plus their contracts all probably differ. Like Chelsie, Dmitry, and Anna D.
Chelsie- since she’s a budding young dancer and a fan fav she probably will stay longer.
Dmitry- Not the most aesthtic or judge pleaser, yet he’ll stay at least another year.
Anna D.- Won Pro Dancer Competition over another tall dancer, Ashly’s sis, Alec’s bro, Snow and Brent since she has the height issue she’ll in any case have a limited contract
I agree about both Annas and Alec, but I hope they keep Jonathan! While I don’t think he’s one of the better pros, I like him a lot more than Louis (no offense to him or his fans). Plus there might not be girl tall enough for him anyway.
I don’t think Anna D. has much hope, even if they do get a really tall guy. ‘Member Clyde and Elena? O.O
