The Dancing Poetry Corner – Dancing All Over The Television Landscape

Dancing All Over The Television Landscape!

General Hospital is well-known for an epic event called The Nurses Ball. The debut of this event was in the year 1994, founded by Lucy Coe, played by Lynn Herring. Lucy has been the emcee since the beginning. It had been held for many years but was suspended. In 2013 it was resurrected and has been held in 2014 and 2015. It is an extravaganza designed to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS. The character of Stone Cates, played by Michael Sutton, died from AIDS. His then girlfriend Robin Scorpio-Drake, played by Kimberly McCullough, also was diagnosed with the disease.

The Nurses Ball is populated with dancing, singing, and skits. Most of the acts are performed by the actors going outside of their comfort zone of acting. It is amazing to see the other talents they do possess. The event was just held this year on May 1, 4 and 5.

I have seen every Nurses Ball the show has done. The event is always a highlight of my General Hospital viewing. I would love to see many of these performers on Dancing With the Stars! To name a few, Lynn Herring, Finola Hughes, Ian Buchanan, Ryan Paevey, who plays Nathan West, and many others.

A history of the Nurses Ball can be found at this link:

There is a link to the May 4 show this year. Two of the youngsters on the show performed a darling Tango. Brooklyn Rae Silzer, plays Emma Drake, and Michael Leone, plays Cameron Spencer. They appear at 18:06 on the clip. Also performing the Tango are Finola Hughes, playing Anna Devane, and Ian Buchanan, playing Duke Lavery. They appear at 28:45 on the clip.

Dancing With The Stars own Maksim Chmerkovskiy had a stint playing Anton. He and Kelly Monaco danced the Jive in the 2013 Nurses Ball.

Maks also performed in a number with Magic Milo and The Magic Wands.

Dancing With The Stars and General Hospital have intersected on the dancing landscape.

I was thinking of how to approach my writing for America’s Choice Week. The song America The Beautiful came to mind. The lyrics were running through my head but in a different way. Here are the lyrics, but in a dancing way:

How beautiful are dancing feet gliding across the floor
With elegance, with lightning speed, we hope for more

We are blessed to view this glamorous dancing show
Dancing With The Stars, an American treat, all a’glow

Loosely sing that to the beginning and the ending tune of America The Beautiful. Thinking of a title for my writing, I thought of the theme of America’s Choice. The dancers were:

Dancing American Style

Americans chose the music, styles of costumes and dance
Whether energetic, stylistic, or with old-fashioned romance

Each dance depicting Americana in each and in every way
Dancing American Style, as brilliant, as bright as a sun ray

The very popular Trios were thrown into the American style
Standing ovations plentiful, dancing was taken the extra mile

America’s Choice – Set One
Noah and Sharna
Tango – Geronimo – With Drum Chorus

White Dancing Ball of pure, dreamy elegance
Stunning dips by a White Valiant Knight
As pure as glisteny white angel food cake batter

Trio Set
A Salsa with Emma

Stupendous show of spirit and strength of lifts
A picture perfect opening, delicious, delectable
A show of spicy artistic precision

America’s Choice – Set Two
Chris and Witney
Contemporary – Lay Me Down

Freedom of movement, freedom of the moment
Stylish, sensitive, smooth as silk
Opening of a heart, tasteful intimacy

Trio Set
A Paso Doble with Lindsay

Tempting, triumphant, tantalizing
Lightning bolts of bravery, commitment to dance
Stormy strength and intensity

America’s Choice – Set Three
Riker and Allison
Viennese Waltz – What Now

Smoky, steamy, spectacular
Fabulous fiery control of execution
The Bold and The Beautiful, gutful performance

Trio Set
A Jazz with Brittany

Snazzy, razz-ma-tazzy, be-jazzled
A party of playful precision, a mover and shaker
Packed with plenty of spirit and happiness

America’s Choice – Set Four
Robert and Kym
Contemporary – Champagne Kisses

Love on a rooftop, a kiss of desire
Sparkles in eyes, a light as air feeling
Baring hearts and souls through dance

Trio Set
A Samba with Jenna

Black and white Samba-fied dance, stylish fun
A man courting two fancy ladies
Spirited steps and acrobatic movements

America’s Choice – Set Five
Nastia and Sasha
Paso Doble – Centuries
With King Derek

A Paso Doble fit for a King
Dynamic, daring, dramatic, Gladiator Goddess
Passionate power of performance

Trio Set
A Jive with Derek

Contrast of dance steps and styles
Flashy, full of fun, throwing it on the floor
Push and pull of dazzling styles of dance

America’s Choice – Set Six
Rumer and Val
Rumba- Perhaps, Perhaps. Perhaps

Classical dance, clean, concise, with clarity
Marvelous spins, whirls, twirls
Impeccable, refined, high-class

Trio Set
A Paso Doble with Artem

Polished Paso Doble of perfection, superior strength
Blazing beauty and brilliance, classical
With a fiery, fierce, flamboyant flavor

Americans chose the songs, the costumes, the styles of dance
America The Beautiful, America’s Choice, as a dancing romance!

Viewers were given an extra-special second dancing treat!
The return of the Tuesday Night Results Show can’t be beat!

The Triumphant Return of The Results Show

Our dancing viewing was enhanced by the triumphant return of The Results Show. Our appetites were whetted with a double-dipped dancing treat! It was wonderful to have the second night of the week return.

The down-side to the evening was a double elimination. At this point in every season it is simply hard to see anyone take their final bows.

The evening began with Judge Len Goodman proclaiming the encore dance. Chosen this week was the Trio Paso Doble of Rumer, Val, and Artem. The dance received encore cheers from the Ballroom faithful.

The Monday night dance review was on display. Glimpses and glances were seen into the backstage feelings of the couples. Some of their thoughts on Monday night’s dances were revealed. As Erin interviewed them on The Results Show, their nerves were jangling regarding elimination.

The highly popular Dance Center returned. The make-up clad Jerry Rice joined the equally-made-up Eddie Mayne. Len Goodman completed the eclectic panel. They reviewed the stars with their usual charm. Their humorous take was complimented by their ascerbic, sarcastic wit.

Musical guests returned to the delight of the dancing faithful. Carly Rae Jepsen performed her hit, I Really Like You. Her rousing vocals were complimented by a dance choreographed by Emma Slater. Joining Emma in the high-spirited, brilliant dance were Alan, Artem, Keo, Lindsay and Jenna.

The heavenly, angelic, mega-powerful voice of Josh Groban stirred our hearts. His melodious voice performed Over The Rainbow. Accompanied by the balletic talents of Maddie Ziegler and company of two young lady ballet stars. The performance was a Ten Over The Rainbow Ballet Review!

A dynamic, electrifying, contemporary dance was on display. Travis Wall along with Allison and Jenna and a dance company performed Shaping Sounds. The dance was a unique, interpretative dance with a dynamite, profound ending.

The inspiring evening of song and dance was coupled with the double elimination. Chris and Witney and Robert and Kym took their final bows. Their fellow competitors gathered to offer hugs and words of encouragement.

The Semi-Finals will be next Monday night. Making the cut: Rumer and Val, Nastia and Derek/Sasha, Noah and Sharna and Riker and Allison. It is hard to believe Season 20 is in the home stretch. Join me back in the Ballroom for all the excitement of The Semi-Finals!
