More DWTS Season 28 Watch Outs (Bigger Celebs?), Secret Format Changes, And More

Will there be bigger celebrities for Dancing With The Stars Season 28? According to Deadline, this is a huge possibility. More below including names Jennifer Love Hewitt and Katelyn Ohasi being thrown out there. Also, their could be some format changes….

“We have been pitched some really fun format changes for Dancing with the Stars by the executive producers but right now they are top secret. [Reality chief] Rob Mills and I had a meeting with them a couple of months ago and got very excited about some of the new ideas that they were talking about to freshen up the format. It’s still the show that audience knows and loves but they’ve got some good ideas in terms of how to surprise people in new ways,” she said.

Burke, speaking at the Disney press upfronts event, added that it was “going after bigger stars than we have in a long time” as the series returns on Monday nights between 8pm and 10pm. This comes after radio host Bobby Bones won the last season, beating the likes of Harry Potter alum Evanna Lynch, Fuller House‘s Juan Pablo Di Pace and former Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider to the top prize.

It will unlikely have trouble finding top names; I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt recently revealed that she would be interested in appearing and gymnast and viral sensation Katelyn Ohasi said she had been in talks to join.

The ABC chief also said that resting the show, which is based on BBC format Strictly Come Dancing, should have a positive impact. “Resting the show does help us focus on talent and we will go after people that we think will be the strongest. That has been a gift and the producers are chomping at the bit to bring it back next fall,” she added.

More at Deadline. Personally, I never cared about “big names. I just want good dancing and great and creative choreography.

DWTS Officially Renewed for One More Season

According to ET, DWTS got a one season renewal. That’s not to say that it won’t be back in 2020…just that the producers are taking it one season at a time these days. There doesn’t appear to be any word on Juniors. Not in this article anyway. If it’s pushed to next January/February like Courtney suggested, then it would probably be too soon to announce it yet.

The Bachelor and Dancing With the Stars have both been officially renewed for new seasons at the network, ABC announced Friday.

The Bachelor, which is coming off a strong season with Colton Underwood, is returning for a 24th installment, while the celebrity dance competition series will be back for a 28th cycle

After opting to forego a spring season of DWTS, a show that has long aired two cycles per year, ABC Entertainment President Karey Burkeconfirmed in February at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the reality competition would “definitely be returning in the fall.”

It remains unclear whether DWTS will return to its twice-a-year format, though the one-season renewal Friday seems to hint that may not happen.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 28 Watch Out: Robert Irwin Wants To Dance!!

How about Robert Irwin for Dancing With The Stars Season 28? ET is reporting he’d like to dance. I say bring him on!!! I would love this!!! Thanks to Vin for bringing this news to our attention!

While Robert Irwin, son of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, is already following in his father’s footsteps as a nature conservationist, it sounds like he might also be interested in following his sister, Bindi, to the Dancing With the Stars stage.

“I’m not as graceful as Bindi, let’s just say that. I’m not very graceful,” Robert told ET’s Lauren Zima at this year’s Steve Irwin Gala at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills on Saturday. “[But] I’d give it a go.

Bindi took home the coveted Mirrorball trophy in November 2015 after a season full of jaw-dropping dances alongside her partner, Derek Hough.

Robert was only 11 at the time, but now that the young TV personality and animal expert has gotten a bit older, there are a lot of fans who’d love to see him vie for the trophy himself.

More at ET.

PureDWTS Season 28/DWTS Juniors Season 2 Update: New Producers, Pro/Troupe Auditions, New Schedule?

After a seemingly endless period of no news, it looks like we’re finally getting some movement behind-the-scenes on season 28 of DWTS and season 2 of Juniors.  Per a source…

DWTS now has new executive producers at the helm – no idea who exactly, but apparently Ashley & Joe are out. I’m guessing we’ll be hearing more after fall up-fronts next week…

Invitation-only auditions for pro/troupe on DWTS were held last week, so we may be seeing some new faces on the show come fall.  Veteran pros did not have to re-audition.

Juniors season 2 is no-go for the summer/fall, but is tentatively being pushed to a mid-season slot – think Jan/Feb of next year, which I think is actually a perfect slot to try because most regular-season shows are on hiatus at that time.  That mid-season slot worked wonders for The Masked Singer; it could be a good vehicle for Juniors, too.

As I mentioned earlier, we’re probably going to see DWTS news pick up a bit after up-fronts next week – likely a tentative premiere date, season length, and of course, the names of the new EP’s. Thoughts? 🙂
