What a great new interview with Charlie White and Meryl Davis! They talk about the Switch Up dance on Dancing With The Stars last week, the competition, what it’s like competing against each other, and the new Stars On Ice Tour. They also give a little sneak peek into tonight’s dances on Dancing With The Stars. From TV Guide….
Is it odd to be going up against each other?
White: For Meryl and myself, it just really feels like we’re in it together still. I don’t know what it would take [for us to] actually be competing against each other. At this point, coming off of winning the Olympics … we just have a different mindset coming in. We feel like we’re doing a lot of this together. And in fact, we are. Right now we’re sitting in a car together and we’re traveling all over the country together and learning these steps, and we’re on the same journey together. Our approach to everything is really just about self-improvement. It’s not so much about competing against other people. That’s how it was on the ice, and that’s how it is on the ballroom floor. So, in that sense, we feel like we have each other’s support, and I think that makes it a lot easier.
Davis: It’s hard to explain. I guess technically speaking, we are competing against each other, but it couldn’t feel further from that. We’ve been on this incredible journey together for 17 years, and our interests have been aligned almost our entire lives, so we just have this team mentality. We have this natural support for one another that has been formed over such a long period of time, and in this circumstance, I feel like we’re supportive of one another. We are having fun together. We really feel like we’re in it together.
Charlie, Erin Andrews told me last week that she feels like your personality is starting to come out more. Are you getting more comfortable in the ballroom?
White: It’s tough, with the change of dance, to get some consistency. But at the same time, I definitely do feel like I’m a lot more comfortable week to week. I do think it’s showing, and that’s super sweet of Erin to say. With the jive definitely, it was fun, and that is sort of my personality. That’s what I like to bring to everyday life, and not just the dance floor. Being able to sort of have that translate into a dance was special.
What are you working on for this week?
White: This week is Disney week. I can’t tell you the song, but we’re doing jazz. I think the whole Disney thing is about cheerfulness, and so much of it for me and for a lot of the other dancers is sort of connecting with your childhood and what made you so happy back then. I think it’s going to be a very fun and funny week that everyone should look forward to.
Davis: Maks and I will be dancing a samba. I’m excited to get going with it. … I think it’s going to be a fun week.

Awww, the new rehearsal instagrams below of Charlie White and Sharna Burgess rehearsing for Disney Week are too fun! It sure makes you wonder what we see for the real deal tomorrow night? Also below is a new interview with Sharna where she tells us all about the season of Dancing With The Stars, what it’s like working with Charlie, the competition, and lots more.
Okay, after being out of town for a few days, I finally got to watch the whole show. My thoughts…in a bullet list.
- Geez, all that brouhaha over Julianne’s comments and that was it?? She qualified the crap out of it and said she loves Maks but…. Really, I was expecting harsher, after all the discussion here.
- Candace was TOTALLY hosed. And I mean totally. That was a very good dance and Tony did a good job with it. WTF is going on here?? Is she being sacrificed on the Meryl alter?
- Candace’s dance was about a thousand times better than Danica’s, thanks to Maks. Is he EVER going to stop putting all that non-dancing in his choreo? About time he was called on it.
- LOVED Drew’s dance – Witney got it just right. I’m liking this girl a lot.
What an interesting new interview with Drew Carey and TV Guide. Drew talks of how fun the cast is on Dancing With The Stars and how he’s never heard any negative comment. he also talks of the differences between learn to dance between Witney Carson And Cheryl Burke. He also gives us a hint of tomorrow night’s dance. More below and at TV Guide.
What was the biggest difference between working with Witney and working with Cheryl?
Carey: Cheryl comes in and she says, “Here’s the routine.” She shows you it on her phone. It’s all mapped out, and that’s what you learn. Witney kind of made it up with me as we went. She had a general idea and … she kind of worked on it over the day and a half, then had it all figured out. Cheryl has it all down and just teaches it to me. So, that was the biggest difference. But either way works for me.
Are you bringing anything you learned from working with Witney into your rehearsals with Cheryl this week?
Carey: Cheryl likes to get all the steps down before she puts music in and Witney let me use music right away to help me learn the steps. So, Cheryl’s [now] letting me use music to learn it as I go. We already incorporated that in, which is really helping me out a lot. … It makes it a lot easier to learn and it lets me know what things are coming. Your body reacts different when you’re doing it to music. All the different stings and the horns and stuff that comes in helps you react better.
What’s been the most surprising or most challenging aspect of the show for you?
Carey: It’s a lot of hours, man. Yesterday I got done with work at 6, had a half-hour to eat dinner then I had rehearsal. … I was at rehearsal til 11:30. Went home, got up at 6:30 this morning … and got to rehearsal at 8. … And then tomorrow the same thing. The hours are brutal.
Physically, it’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was training for a marathon before I started doing this, so I’m in pretty good shape. My legs are in pretty good shape. My shoulders are more sore than my legs. I’m not used to holding my arms up that much.
What are you and Cheryl working on for this week?
Carey: It’s Disney Week. I’m doing a quickstep. It’s going great. … I’m really pleased with it. It’s pretty complicated. This is my hardest one ever. There’s a lot of steps to learn, and this is the longest dance. The first dance I did was a minute and 10 seconds, and this is a minute and 30 seconds. So that extra 20 seconds is murder. It’s a lot of steps to memorize, and a quickstep is all kinds of stuff happening.

NeNe Leakes has written a fun blog at E Online. She writes what it was like working and dancing with Derek Hough last week, but, she is also glad to be back with Tony Dovolani this week. Here is more…
Still, I am so happy to be back with Tony this week! I LOVE Tony! Tony and I started this journey together, he’s like my other husband. We’re together everywhere we go and it feels like home being back with Tony. This week we’ll be doing the foxtrot for our Disney week and my character will be uuh… Caroola from that movie with the Dalmatians. Oh wait, it’s Cruella, yeah Cruella de Vil—I keep calling her Caroola. Anyways, I’m going to be her. She has a big personality, she’s take over and she is that lady, hunni! What an attitude! So I’m going to try and get out there and bring Caroola de Vil (Cruella, Caroola, whatever!) to the stage.
And of course, the competition is getting more fierce! Everyone that is left in the competition, we all bring something very different to the dance floor. I think that me and Drew Carey are the two that bring the entertainment, and so if you’re going to base it off of entertainment then Drew would be my main competition. But I would love to do a dance with Drew, he’s funny, he’s fun, and I’m the same way—we would do an amazing dance together and get the crowd up on their feet! We would have such a blast.
Nene Fun-Fact: Speaking of Drew, I’ve been to the Price is Right already and I’m the biggest winner as far as celebrities go! I won $77,000 and I gave it all to charity. I had so much fun and I want to tell everybody that they need to go to The Price is Right, because you could really win! I don’t even know how much a can of beans cost and I won. But hunni, let me tell you that wheel that you spin is so heavy! I watched The Price is Right growing up and it was really a dream to be in there.
To My Fans… Expect a whole lot of entertainment this week! I’m going to really try to bring Caroola de Vil, (whatever her name is!) to the dance floor. I want to pull out that character so well, so look again for fun, entertainment and a lot of character, hunni!
