DWTS Season 27, Week 8: Who’s Dancing What, And When?
And then there were…still too many. Six people in the semi-final would normally mean a double elimination this week, but there was discussion they would go into the finale with five couples and whittle them down to three on night one, then those three would be up for the title on night two. Well, now there is no night two, so has the plan changed? Are we still going into the finale with five couples??
Anyway, per the press release:
The First Dance Is a Dedicated Dance to a Meaningful Person in the Celebrity’s Life
The Couples’ Second Dance Will Be Judges’ Choice to Help Determine Who Should Move on to Finale Night
The couples have been rehearsing day and night preparing to perform two stunning numbers. First, each celebrity will perform a dance style not yet danced, dedicated to a meaningful person in their life. The second is a special Judges’ Choice dance, where each couple will be challenged to perform a style of dance they previously danced, but this time with totally new music in this all-important Semi-Finals extravaganza. For the first dance, each couple will perform a waltz, salsa, contemporary or Argentine tango. For the Judges’ Choice dance, each will perform a jive, foxtrot, quick step, salsa or cha cha. The Dedicated Dance scores will be combined with the Judges’ Choice dance scores for a judges’ final tally.

Sooo, everyone’s redo dance is from week 1. And, also everyone is doing it to their song that would’ve been on Tuesday night of week 1 but then they didn’t have to dance because they were the top 6. (Except Alexis and Alan)!!!
Interesting that the “judges’ picks” are basically all the Week 1, Night 2 dances that the safe couples never ended up performing, right down to the same song. The only anomaly is Alexis (the only one left who had to dance twice in Week 1), who is getting the song Tinashe would have danced to.
On one hand, it’s nice to see those dances not go to waste. On the other, it’s a little lazy to rehash them as judges’ picks, and I would have rather had them do two unlearned dances instead. Assuming next week is just freestyles and fusions, we probably won’t get to see Milo do a paso, Evanna an Argentine tango, Alexis a quickstep, and so on.
Elle, I noticed that too. I’m pumped for Evanna and Milo. I also noticed that Sharna and Bobby’s jive song is the same one that she had for the trio dance with James in Season 23.
If they can’t get rid of Joe for the semi finals, maybe they figure it’ll look worse with a double elimination if he were to survive that yet again. And I’m guessing with the contemporary, Joe will mostly stand there while Jenna dances around him (again).
My guess is that they will have 5 people go to the finale but only have the freestyle performances (which is probably why Judges’ Choice dances are this coming Monday, when in the past, they were part of Finale Night 1).
They probably will then have a small voting period after the performances and then announce the winner at the end of the night.
Really thinking that this week will come down to Milo vs. Evanna, both have some really solid songs lines up, considering that they are songs from two of the biggest blockbusters this year. The biggest thing to see is who’s going to dance last, I think it will go to Evanna because she hasn’t done it yet and then Milo can finish the season with his freestyle in the finale because I’m sure Witney will choreo something amazing. I’m really pulling for Milo, I think he’s been consistently the best! Really sad that the finale is only one night now, I feel like there won’t be enough closure. Also think that Juan Pablo is in trouble this week considering he ended up middle of the pack with a forgettable dance, doesn’t seem to have the support Bobby and Joe do, the publicity of Alexis and Alan with their showmance, and the high scores and memorable numbers that Milo and Evanna had last week. It’s a race to the final, I’m excited!
I agree with you R2M Milo and Evanna got real good songs for their dances this week so I am super pumped for both of them. I would really love to see Milo and Evanna in the final 2 together! Both have been amazing
Why keo has never choreographed an AT?! I was hoping for one this season
I truly don’t get all the Juan Pablo hate. He’s an incredible actor a fantastic dancer has an incredible partner in Cheryl they have produced amazing dances this season. And I genuinely believe he could win this whole thing. Everyone’s talking about he doesn’t have the fan base or the pool mind you he is one of four couples that have not been in Jeopardy at all this season. And with him being a great dancer I would think the producers would probably hint if he was in trouble…. “Jeopardy” gave warning signs when Demarcus they gave warning signs with Tinashe even given one warning signs for Alexis and Evanna…. so I don’t think he’s struggling at all. Something tells me Cheryl Burke is about to get her third trophy.
Really excited to see Evanna do her second foxtrot! I was really happy when I saw that she had “Rewrite The Stars” for her second dance in week 1 and kind of disappointed that we never got to see it, but thankfully it worked out!
Milo and Witney are going to kill it, as usual. No worries there. I’m surprised they got their cha cha to redo, I would’ve assumed it would be their quickstep instead given that it didn’t really live up to the judges’ expectations. A little disappointed that we don’t get to see a paso doble or samba from them, but it is how it is.
Alexis and Alan will probably be fine, just hoping they can survive the elimination (especially if it’s a double). If Joe and/or Bobby doesn’t go this week, I’m going to be mega pissed. Especially if it’s at the expense of Alexis/Evanna. JP can go to, while we’re at it. He’s been ridiculously overscored the whole season.
I;m thinking we are going to get a lot of tens….and Bobby getting 8s and 7s and the same for Joe
How do you know Joe is in the “middle of the pack” R2M? We don’t know any such thing.
Geez, Kipper, if you don’t like how we talk about JP or the fact that we don’t care about him, go somewhere else. “Hate”? You should wish that most people feel that much for him. Indifference is a better description of what I feel.
As for him not being in jeopardy? That means nothing, and everyone should know that by now. Particularly these days when the producers are desperately trying to switch things up. Maybe he’s never been in jeopardy because the producers aren’t interested in him either.
No Hate!!! Nothing but Love! At the end of the day it is all “opinion based” anyways…. I mean most of you were certain that Demarcus would be in the finale or even win…but you see how that turned out. And to blame the judges would be ridiculous let’s just say he didn’t have the “support” that you thought he did. If the producers really didn’t care about Juan then yeah maybe he would have been gone by now but something tells me he’s getting the votes.
Hi Heidi, I said that Juan Pablo ended up in the middle of the pack score wise after the team dance scores were factored in! Sorry if there was confusion!
I’ve been wondering all season when we were going to see an Argentine Tango from the Argentinian. I hope JP slays it (though I also feel like there’s going to be a lot of pressure on him to slay it).
It’s “ridiculous” to blame the judges??? GTFO, Kipper – you know nothing about this show and you’re trolling.
That’s what you *meant*, R2M, not what you “said”.
Well, they just had an ad saying “FInal Four,” so I guess double elim it is.
Jenna & Joe have contemporary, so basically he’s the jungle gym and she’s gonna play on him. Rolls eyes. She’s got great extension and beautiful lines, it’s going to be all about Jenna. Juan doing his Latin thang as usual. It feels to me like Cheryl likes the moody, sexy, feely, dances so I can see why they put her and JP together. At least he dances them well. Alexis and Alan showmance part 3, nothing new. I’m afraid Evanna’s a bit lost in the crowd, hopefully the performance will be dynamic enough to keep her in there. I honestly kind of like Bobby, yeah he’s whiny, but he has an interesting personality. I think Sharna has used her past partners as jungle gyms several times, playing around them while they’re basically stationary. Bobby doesn’t have the strength to let her climb all over him, neither did hitch. It forces her to make him move and I think he’s improved. Milo’s my fav, he dances well but he’s also got a great personality and attitude. Love that. I’m crossing my fingers that Joe & Alexis are eliminated.
I’m sensing since the adult show hasn’t been renewed yet they are going to either cancel it (while it’s still doing ok in the ratings) or trim it down to once a year. Probably a spring season for adults followed by dwts jrs. In the fall. Might make touring a bit tricky with the winners and all. I think the show does better with a winter tour. Just my thoughts.
@Kandy, I realize I posted this in the wrong thread, but the tour has been extended until March 9th…I really don’t think ABC is going to cancel it just yet as I believe it still does well enough for them (though not sure exactly how much money goes into it). But I am curious what this will mean-full season with a later start, short season, or no spring season. ABC might decide to just go ahead with American Idol. Hey, maybe if they cancel DWTS, FOX can reboot it a year from now. I know they weren’t very happy over there about ABC rebooting Idol.
Heidi’s numbers post makes me feel a little better that we might finally see the end of Joe tonight.
