PureDWTS Season 16 – Who is Gleb Savchenko?

First of all, I just want to start out this bio by sending a huge huge congratulations to dance pro Gleb Savchenko and welcoming him to the United States to dance on Dancing With The Stars!!!

Many of you are asking, “Who is Gleb Savchenko?” and, what’s more, many are assuming Gleb is an “unknown” and/or maybe not worthy or deserving of this promotion. Not true in a worldly sense! Gleb is a highly decorated dancer and in some cases more decorated than some of the current and past pros of Dancing With The Stars. He’s not just a pretty face and he’s worked hard to get where he is today.

Gleb was born in Moscow, Russia on September 16, 1983 (A Virgo!!) and has been dancing since the age of 7. According to his official site, dancing first started out as just as hobby, but, soon his parents saw that Gleb had a talent for dancing and decided to enroll him in dance school. From there, he excelled and soon started competing in Ballroom and Latin American dancing.

Gleb has also studied drama and theatre arts at the Moscow Theatre Arts University graduating from the Russian Theatre Arts University with Masters in Choreography. Gleb has won six Professional Latin Dance Championships across the world since 2007:

Australasian Professional Latin Championship
Australian South Pacific Championship
Canberra Open Professional Championship
Closed Hong Kong Championship
Open Asia Tour Championship
United Kingdom Championship

Gleb was ranked #10 in the World in the Pro-Latin American division by the World Dance Council. Below is some dance footage of he and his dance partner Elena Samodanova.

In advancing his career, Gleb also studied acting and trained at The Actors Pulse in Sydney, Australia. He has appeared in film and television roles and was a host for “Time Out” on NTV.

Gleb has also appeared in numerous music videos for major Russian pop stars and worked as a model. He has shot ad campaigns and appeared in “Cosmopolitan”, “GQ” and “Men’s Health”. He’s also modeled and participated in major designer runaway shows.

Then last April 2012, Gleb landed a gig on the Australian version of Dancing With The Stars. He was paired with model and actress Erin McNaught (seen below). Unfortunately, the two were the first to be eliminated.

wow. At first I was like who Gleb Savchenko? Then I searched him on youtube his dancing with the stars Australia stuff didn’t impress me enough. But then I watched his competition videos….. WOAH I think he is amazing. I think he will be a great addition. So I’m gonna go into this with an open mind. But damn 3 new pros and we still don’t know the full roster. yeah but he isn’t like Derek at all really- Derek has never been eliminated first! haha! and he took models that typically do poorly and made them look good….there is only one D. Hough:) Of course he can dance well with a professional, it’s becoming innovative and great when you don’t:)

Great work as usual, Vogue. Yes, there’s definitely an Ashton-like resemblance in the first pic. I’ll give pretty Gleb a chance if he replaces Maks’s, has a nice personality, and doesn’t slick his hair back. If he bumps Tristan, well, that’s a different story (just kidding, of course).
