L.A. Laker Ron Artest In Talks To Do Dancing With The Stars?
As fans to Dancing With The Stars know, we can’t ignore TMZ when it comes to rumors. Today the tabloid news site is reporting L.A. Laker Ron Artest in talks with the show to dance. He may have some rehearsal issues though if the NBA resolves the lockout, but, not if producers change the “requirements”. Could this be why they did so?
Nothing’s official yet — but sources tell us, both Artest and “Dancing” producers have been in touch to hash out a possible deal … and Ron’s pretty excited about the prospect.
But here’s the catch — “Dancing” won’t end ’til November and basketball season typically starts in October … which means if the lockout ends early, Ron could be S.O.L.
That said, Ron could theoretically handle both commitments simultaneously — because as TMZ first reported, “Dancing” producers are desperate for A-list talent … so there will be NO minimum rehearsal requirement next season.
So what do you think if this comes true and who do you see Ron paired with? I can see him with Cheryl!!!

Am I the only one who is pissed off by the “no minimum, no maximum” rehearsal requirement? It just seems to me like a whole season of Master P’s and Wendy Williams’ waiting to happen.
What do they mean, no minimum rehearsal requirement? If this is true, I hope they choose only “stars” with some type of dance or entertainment background then.-LOL
I hope it’s not true!!
No minimun rehersal requirements? I see how this season is going to go…
How tall is he? If he is really tall apir him with Kym.
Can anyone confirm if this is all true. No minimum, no maximum rehearsals! This are trainwrecks waiting to happen! God!
If this comes to be ture, I hope Edyta sees then ews and comes back to b his partner.
I doubt Ron Artest is a big enough “star” to be the reason DWTS may have gotten rid of the minimum rehearsal time rule. Now if they could get Kobe Bryant or Dirk Nowitzski – maybe. But even if they do reverse the minimum rehearsal time rule, I would think that personal and professional pride (and for some stars, a desire to win or at least do well and maybe even learning to dance) would make them put in the necessary practice time. Can you imagine how the public and the media would diss any star who came on and didn’t even try?!
I have a lot of faith in the pros. They aren’t going to let their celebrity partners get away without practicing. Like Sandra, I would think the celebrities would know they need to work at this if they want to win, look good, or half way decent out there. In some people’s case, all the practice in the world is probably not going to do them any good.
Vin, according Wiki ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Artest ) to Ron Artest is 6″7″.
I love Ron Artest!! I have been a fan of his since he was playing for the Houston Rockets. He definitely has the personality that DWTS would love because he is hilarious and very spontaneous and he can dance. I think I’ve seen him do hip-hop before and he is coordinated. But I doubt that the NBA lockout will bot be resolved by November. He was really crazy when he was younger, but I think he has calmed down a lot and he is such a sweetheart now. He donated his NBA championship ring to raise money for a mental health charity.
@Voguerista: Thank you for teling me
! He would be perfect for kym, karina or edyta (wishful thinking on the last one) than!
Elmari, that’s awesome. I’m loving the news on this even more now.
Vin, I’d sooo love it too if Edyta was asked to come back and she accepted.
I agree that I wouldn’t want to see a season full of “big names” who just go out there and B.S. their way through a bunch of dances if the minimum rehearsal time is lifted, but if they do go out there and suck due to a lack of dedication in rehearsals, aren’t they only hurting their own image and reputation?
I can’t believe no one’s brought up the punching incident with Ron Artest in the stands. Many a viewer won’t like him on the show for that, but if we’ve had people come from jail to the show then we can have him too.
I do think he’d be pretty funny, because he doesn’t have much of a filter. So, he’d be sure to provide some good entertainment.
At one point Ron was trying to be a rapper and was pedaling his music. I wonder if he learned some dance moves with that.
John, I know that Ron was really quite a bad boy before. But he really reached the bottom with the “Malice at the Palace” incident and has since been apologetic and trying to rebuild his career since then. That’s why I like him. He’s not like another Allen Iverson and he learned from his mistakes. However, like I’ve mentioned, I doubt that the NBA lockout will go into the season so I don’t see Ron-Ron on DWTS unless the Lakers cut him if they are over their salary cap. He didn’t play well for the Lakers last season that much.
I didn’t even know there was a minimum rehearsal requirement. All I know is some couples rehearse way more than others, and even if a couple is scheduled for a 3 hour rehearsal, sometimes they show up late and often don’t do the full time.
Always extremes. From what was being said, I have always thought the teams were practicing way too much, to exhaustion, more likely to suffer injury, weren’t letting bodies recover, etc. Close the studio at least one day. But, obviously, there should be some baseline amount of practice-these folks are getting paid well now for appearing. I’m sure peer pressure will win out. Just close the studio Wednesday or Friday.
being a ballroom/latin dance teacher i beleive there should be plenty of practice timeso you at least look good and have a routine that fits you. my students look good and have fun.
