PureDWTS Season 25 Cast Rumors & Watchout: Did WWE Star Nikki Bella Get Asked?

First off, a shout-out to my co-worker Floyd, who is OBSESSED with WWE and Total Divas, and brought this to my attention 😛

This is a bit of old news, but is new to me (and probably most of you), since I don’t exactly keep an ear to the ground on professional wrestling.  Apparently back in April, on an episode of Total Divas, Nikki Bella of the Bella Twins got an email from DWTS:

Something to keep in mind: this episode aired April 26 of this year, but it was definitely taped at least a few months prior to that – and judging from Nikki’s light hair in the video, this was most likely taped in early January of this year, as that is the last time any of her IG pix show her with highlights. So I’m guessing she may actually have been offered a spot on season 24, but turned it down to focus on wrestling.

And given that she has since gotten engaged to John Cena and has expressed a desire to retire from wrestling and settle into married life…is it possible that DWTS may re-extend the invite for season 25? I wouldn’t mind seeing her – again, my memory is slightly more rusty these days, but I don’t know that we’ve ever had a female WWE star on the show since Stacy Keibler in season 2. Also could be nice seeing Cena in the audience supporting her 🙂 Thoughts?

PureDWTS Season 25 Casting Rumors & Watchout: Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay Says “Never Say Never!”

As has become par for the course with DWTS, the most recent Bachelor/Bachelorette’s names are being tossed around as possible rumors for the next season.  We first reported Rachel’s name being in the mix back in February, pre-season 24.  In an interview with E!, Rachel talked about not being interested in joining Real Housewives of Dallas (“I kind of don’t want my personal life to be out there so much”) but seemed a bit more on-the-fence about DWTS:

While we do think Rachel would make an amazing Housewife, we understand the need to just focus on being out in the open with her fiancé (Bryan, Eric or Peter) after having to keep their engagement a secret for the last couple of months.
But just because the lawyer isn’t down to join RHOD doesn’t mean that she is opposed to doing another reality show, telling us, “Never say never!”
Of course, previous Bachelors and Bachelorettes have gone on to compete on Dancing With the Stars, including the most recent Bachelor Nick Viall, but Rachel admitted she would be a little hesitant to sign up for the ABC reality competition.
“I don’t know about Dancing With the Stars,” she said.I do love to dance. I’m a never say never-type person, so we’ll see!”
As much as I usually roll my eyes at Bachelor castings on DWTS, I would actually kind of love to see Rachel on the show – especially after Kaitlyn Bristowe spilled the tea on her own DWTS casting mess from a few years ago. I think she’d be a good partner for Artem or Gleb to really shine with.
Thoughts?

PureDWTS Season 26 – Who Would You Like to See on DWTS Junior? Court Picks Pros & Celebs

So we’re still over 6 months away from the premiere of Dancing with the Stars Junior next spring, but given that any show with minors seems to take quite a bit more planning, I’m guessing the casting directors are already wheeling & dealing on who they want on the show – after all, they’re not just casting potential celebs, but pros too…and apparently a host, as well, as Tom has said he will not be hosting the spinoff. Alfonso, you still lurking around set? 😉 We need a host, bruh. My gut’s still telling me that Maks will somehow land on the judging panel, and I guess I can only hope that being a father himself with have softened him a bit…I don’t think I could bear a whole season of him being as big a jerk as he was guest judging switch week on DWTS.  And to kids, no less 😯

I had mixed feelings upon hearing about the spinoff – and if I’m being honest, my feelings are still pretty mixed – but at the very least, I think having a brand new set of pros, judges, and celebs (and perhaps a bit of a new format, to accommodate the unique nature of casting kids) might give me a bit of a reprieve from the manipulative grind of the regular DWTS. And the fact that all of the pros are gonna be brand new? Makes it hard for producers to play favorites 🙂 But I do worry about seeing young kids face rejection on national television, especially after seeing young kids cut on World of Dance this summer…I just hope the producers know they have to handle them far more gently than they do the adults on DWTS.

So all that being said – who do I want to see as pros and celebs on the show? Well, given that they haven’t really specified what the age range will be, I am gonna guess that anyone under the age of 18 is probably going to be eligible to be a pro or a celeb partner – similar to the competitive ballroom world, where 18 is more or less the cutoff for dancing in the youth division, and then they make you just start doing adult amateur events. Yes, I’m aware that Willow Shields was only 14 when she did the regular version of the show – but if we cut it off at 14, we actually lose some potentially good pro and celeb choices, and I don’t think the show is going to be able to afford to be THAT picky.  So 18’s my cut-off, and all of my picks won’t turn 18 during the airing of the show, either.  I was also realistic – I doubt we’re gonna see the children/siblings of any huge, A-list celebs on DWTSJ.  So yeah – no Jolie-Pitts and the like on this list.  I listed celebrity children that I think the show actually stands a chance of possibly getting.

I find myself caring more about the pros than the celebrity contestants (although there’s two celebs that I’ve already picked out pro partners for… 😉 ), but I had a good time compiling this list nonetheless.  Let me know what you think 😉 …Read more

World Of Dance Goodies,Tap Dancing Champion Kyle Van Newkirk Gives Advice To Young Dancers, And More

Hey! How many of you have been following “World Of Dance” this summer? Miss Heidi, Courtney, and I have been covering the show at PureWofD.com if you haven’t checked it out yet. You can catch up with all the news, music, and watch videos of all the dances so far (a few of them you can watch below). Miss Heidi has been working her Number Predictions and Courtney does up the Power Rankings every week just like when we cover Dancing With The Stars. Also, we just interviewed Tap Dancing Champion and sensation Kyle Van New Kirk who is from my area. He talks on his career so far and tells us all about his performances (I love his story on how he made a cane for the Duel round as he broke it multiple times before the live performance and had to keep remaking it). He tells us some things behind the scenes and gives advice to young dancers coming from remote areas, and lots more. Be sure to see it HERE when you get some time. It’s very near and dear to my heart as I spent time with his Mom and him at their lovely house and gardens and took photos. He played the piano for me. It was a surreal day to say the least (what I’d give to see him perform on DWTS!). Come check everything out! We’re having a lot of fun and he talent is off the hook.

PureDWTS Seasons 23 & 24: Who Might Get An Emmy Nomination? **PREDICTIONS**

I apologize that this is being done in the 11th hour, but aside from this just being an unusually and insanely busy time for Heidi, Vogue, and myself, we’re also having all sorts of problems with the site since we got migrated to a different server by our provider, and it’s driving us each to the brink of insanity because the site…loads…impossibly…sloooooooow. So thanks for bearing with us 🙂

So the Primetime Emmy Award nominees get announced tomorrow at 11 AM EST – we’ll be sure to post if DWTS ends up getting nominated in any category.  But I see many of you are already speculating on whether or not any of our pros might get a nod for any of the choreography we’ve seen the past two-ish seasons – so here’s where we speculate 😉

Some background and things to keep in mind: the eligibility period runs from (roughly, and bear with me as I’m going from memory) late May 2016 to late May 2017, so it’s basically anything from seasons 23 or 24 (Heidi will have to elaborate on exact cutoff rules). DWTS generally is lucky to eke out one nom in the Outstanding Choreography category – two or more is a miracle, as they’re usually up against any number of professionally choreographed & performed routines on SYTYCD, as well as any other random choreography (a set of routines from My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend won last year) or numbers from awards shows or musicals aired on TV. Submissions can either take the form of a single piece (i.e. Julianne & Derek’s Emmy-winning “Elastic Heart” routine) or a body of work (i.e. Derek winning for a combined body of work of Shawn’s quickstep, Shawn’s mambo, and the rotating room dance). Because the site is being really, REALLY hinky right now, here’s a link to Questions We’re Tired of Answering, The Emmy Edition, and last year’s Emmy nomination prediction post.  Here’s a link to the big “Emmygate” controversy involving Witney a few years ago, too, because that seems like it’s bound to come up – anywho, those three links are good reads if you’re looking to get a feel for how the nominations tend to go.

So who do I think we might see on the ballot? I think the strongest candidate is probably Julianne & Derek’s “Unsteady” performance:

It’s got the emotional gravity, the right execution, and the choreographic merit. Plus, Derek’s probably the only person from DWTS with enough peers on the voting panel to get the appreciation necessary for a nom.

Now, we’re in a bit of a unique position this year, because the potential nomination pool from last season of SYTYCD is unusually weak, due to the format change with the kids and the mentors. Does that mean there’s more room for nominations from DWTS? Yes and no. The Academy isn’t required to nominate any certain number of routines each year – ostensibly, if they feel the nomination pool is too weak, they don’t actually have to nominate anyone (it’s never happened, but I’m just illustrating that there’s not a set number of spots to fill). But with SYTYCD significantly weakened, I think it is possible that it might open the door for some DWTS routines that were just as meritorious but maybe weren’t as favored due to being ballroom (the Academy tends to favor contemporary and has an odd history when it comes to nominating ballroom routines). So that being said – who else do I think might be in the nomination mix?

I think Sharna, Lindsay, and/or possibly Emma might be able to slide in with a “body of work” nod – Emma for a few of Shad’s routines, Lindsay for a couple of Calvin/David’s, and Sharna for one or two of James’. I think Emma might actually stand the best shot, if they submit she & Shad’s two Viennese waltzes (the ones that were connected), and his contemporary:

These three just feel like a nice, cohesive narrative, and the choreography is moody & unique enough to stand out.

I keep going back and forth on Lindsay, because while we saw some pretty genius stuff out of her these past two seasons, her partners weren’t exactly fantastic dancers – and unfortunately, that does tend to come into play when they’re making the nominations. But I think she could cobble together a decent package using Calvin’s Argentine tango and maybe David’s salsa:

As for Sharna – she’s unfortunately a little bit screwed, given that she had one really good partner (James) and one pretty lousy one (Bonner) to cull routines from, and the good one seemed to get stuck on a season that was bogged down in gimmicks & themes more often than not. But if I had to pick one routine that might be able to hold its own – I think I would actually go with the Suicide Squad Viennese waltz:

I think Heidi mentioned Derek’s Kairos routine as a potential contender too – I can’t remember it, and this connection is scheisty AF right now, so someone feel free to link to it in the comments.

So who are your predictions for Outstanding Choreography nominations?
