Lance Armstrong Turns Down Dancing With The Stars
First Lindsay Lohan and now Lance Armstrong? 😯 I didn’t mind the thought of Lindsay dancing, but, I’m drawing the line at Lance dancing on Dancing With The Stars. Please, let’s hope Lance doesn’t change his mind. Below is more from Entertainment Weekly. If you’d like to read more, see the link.
Lance Armstrong may not be able to race the Tour de France again. But ABC definitely wants him on Dancing With the Stars.
Sources say the ABC reality hit offered the former professional cyclist a spot on the upcoming spring edition of the veteran reality series. Armstrong declined.
Though the network approached Armstrong before his recent doping confession, we suspect Armstrong’s high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey hasn’t dulled the network’s interest.
Heidi: This is seriously out of control. All we’re hearing about is people who are trainwrecks saying no. Should I be thankful? Should I be worried that they will find someone WORSE?? The article claims they asked him pre-confession, but still. This is how we’re going to pursue Season 16?? Come ON, producers. Who’s next? People in Jail? Dancing with the Criminally Insane??
Totally agree, Heidi!
Heidi you just made me laugh out loud – Dancing With the Criminally Insane.
Wow can’t believe the names that are being talked about. Was surprised about Lindsay totally totally shocked they would ask Lance Armstrong.
It sure does seem that the Producers have it stuck in their heads “CONTROVERSY…BAD DANCING”. I guess it is their new montra. I agree this is not looking good as far as who TPTB are looking for. Sigh.
WHat are the producers of DWTS thinking? Are they desperate for “real” stars? They are ruining this show. The last few seasons have been so bad that I’m surprised it hasn’t been cancelled. I’ve been doing ballroom dancing (lessons, competitions, etc.) for many years so I’m sure you know that this is my favorite show. However, lately it’s been about the judges, the pros, the drama, the “fake” rehearsal controversies and the non “Stars”! The producers need to do some serious thinking about the structure of the show. Especially, now that it is up against The Voice. The Voice coaches/judges are so professional….no laughing at contestants or making fun of them, etc. like the DWTS judges do. They are very encouraging, motivating yet honest and professional. And the producers need to listen to the fans. We get them their ratings!
Sheesh. Next thing you know it’s Manti Te O, LeAnne Rimes, or Casey Anthony.
C’mon now.
I’d love for this to be a bad dream, wake up, and we have an amazing season 16 cast.
Actually, Melissa G, they’re asked LeAnne Rimes. She said she’ll do only if Lacey’s brother is her partner.
I wouldn’t have been disappointed if he had said yes. I guess I still have a soft spot for him. That being said, I’m worried about this season’s cast.
Er…bad analogy alert, Debra. The thing with the Voice is that they go out and look for actual good singers to be on the show and they don’t even try to hide it. Many/most of the singers who make the TV show have been singing for years and could be called professionals. And there is NOTHING wrong with that – that is their formula for their show. But of course the judges are going to be all the things you mention – they kind of have to be, since the only difference between them and those they are judging is the big break. Unlike American Idol, where anyone can try out, the Voice actually doesn’t let the people sans talent in the door.
I do agree that the judges on DWTS are out of control and need to go back to how they were in earlier seasons – but The Voice is not a good comparison. AI would be a better one. Jennifer, Steven and Randy were actually much better than Simon, Randy and Paula when it came to behaving like judges. DWTS judges seem to think they are the stars of the show.
What annoys me is that when before we’ve seen controversial stars, like Kate Gosselin, Bristol Palin, they (despite a good finish for Bristol) always get bad press and the majority of people don’t particularly like them. You’d think the producers would learn, but they’re asking people like Lance and Lindsay? If this is only the start I’m worried. One controversial name I might let pass, but if this is a cast of has-been reality TV stars and headline grabbers, I don’t know what the producers have done.
i think you hit the nail square on the head there, Heidi. The judges on DWTS really do think they are the stars of the show. So ……how about we get new judges every year (if not every season). It’s their gig for a year, make of it what you will, and then move on to your other many endeavors. Don’t give them time to get entrenched, don’t give them time to make favorites (or enemies) with the Pro dancers, don’t give them a reason to think they have to be larger than life in order to secure their future position on the panel. it’s a lot like how I feel about Congress ….throw them all out and start anew with a fresh crop. And then: term limits.
While a good argument can be made for consistency on the panel, consistency in the judging is the problem. We’ve all opined as to which Pro we think really needs to take a break. I’m thinking that the judges may all need a break as well.
Maybe it’s unreasonable to expect all three new judges every season, or even every year. But a fresh face every year should not be a problem. I just fear that one lone replacement puts too much pressure on the newbie to “go with the flow” and not step outside that well established box. And the judges table requires someone who’s not afraid to be the bearer of bad news. The problem with guest judges has been, I think, their unwillingness to appear to be hard on someone who can’t dance. They usually just want to be the nice guy and give everyone a 9 or 10.
If someone else saw this and already posted it, I apologize. Seeing on yahoo news that Manti Te’o’s girlfriend was asked and is mulling it over.
@Jay Please, please tell me this is a joke. Stooping to new lows if true!
I’d be glad to see Lance on the show. It’s probably too close to his confession, but I’d love to see him strut his stuff on the show. Plus, I’d love to see someone like Karina kick his butt on the dance floor. It would be great to watch.
It’s hard to say if the producers are reaching for storylines or if they are just taking a look at every option that’s out there. Considering the ratings drop, it’s probably the later.
I’m joking! Besides, Maks would probably still find a way to argue with her and cause drama.
@Jay In that case, excuse my gullible-ness, haha. I actually went onto Yahoo News.
Now this is just plain ridiculous. First Lindsay, Now Lance…
Time for DWTS to Up their Game.. Because all I am seeing is a Top Rated show running out of options to stay on top. Certainly they can do better, or can they?
I know that on one of these posts there were a lot of names thrown around as possible participants but I’m wondering if many of those people either aren’t interested or available and so TPTB are getting desperate enough to look for people currently in the news hoping for ratings. If you ask me, they’re going about enlisting their cast in an entirely wrong way. I understand they need a hook, but it can’t be drawing from a group of the most notoriously bad celebs.
You guys are completely right. The judges think they are the stars. I would really love new judges too…. but is it really a possibility? Are they under contract for a few more years? I have no idea. Are we just getting our hopes up, or could it actually happen (preferably) SOON!
I’m kind of alarmed at the list of who DWTS has been asking – guys, there hasn’t only been Lindsay and Lance. They’ve asked ANN ROMNEY!
TPTB on this show are trying WAY too hard.
Bwahahahahahaha! Dancing with the Criminally Insane… didn’t David Arquette already do DWTS? 😀
You know, I’m wondering if the over the top expectations have made many celebrities who really are stars turn down the show. I mean, really, to do even reasonably well you have to clear you entire calendar pretty much, go through the most physically grueling regimen, in front of gawd-and-everbody, stress beyond imagining culminating in facing some of your biggest fears on the dance floor ….again in front of millions.
in early seasons, the expectation was not what it is now. I can imagine many celebs thinking “yea, this could be loads of fun, but …… it’s way too much work and too much possibility of humiliating myself.” Or being humiliated by the judges *cough* Bruno *cough*
What an interesting season already. More rumors and denials of who ISN’T dancing rather than who is campaigning to be on. Has DWTS officially “jumped the shark”? At least there is always youtube….
Ann Romney would be reasonable compared to Lance and Lindsay – and I’m as liberal as they come. Now, Sarah Palin on the other hand – that would be wack. And it could happen since she’s no longer working for Fox and she likes an audience.
Linde, I actually think Len was a worse offender than Bruno this past season. But yes, I see what you’re saying.
It does feel like the show is running out of celebs people would actually want to see, doesn’t it. I actually don’t think Sarah Palin is far behind. She needs to be in the spotlight in order to feel relevant. Her clout is nil in the GOP or any real political stage anymore, so much so she has a fitness book coming out. Doing DWTS when her book comes out would serve her purpose nicely. Oy!
We joked around about the Osmonds. But at least we knew from the outset what we would get…toothy smiles, positive attitudes, clean fun, lots of family support—I wonder if Jimmy Osmond is available? Yeah, I’m that desperate for good role models on this show. Hats off to those who were including Ralph Macchio!
I know the show is called Dancing with the STARS but how about putting REAL everyday people on the show instead, people with absolutely NO dance experience…not all reality shows need to feature celebrities.
