PureDWTS Exclusive: Sharna Burgess Reflects & Talks On DWTS 17, Gives “Michael Jackson One” Show Review

Hi All!!! Sharna Burgess talked with us recently about the new changes for Dancing With The Stars Season 17. She also reflected on the past season of Dancing With The Stars and what her first year was like as a pro. Sharna was also gracious enough to give us a sneak peek into what the new “Michael Jackson One” Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas is like one of which I’m dying to see and maybe you are too? Lots more below with our beautiful Sharna and we thank her once again for taking time to answer a few questions. Without further ado….

1. Hey Sharna!! How are you and how are you feeling after your first season as a Pro on Dancing With The Stars? Is it everything you hoped it would be?

It was amazing!! It certainly lived up to what I had hoped and Andy surpassed any expectations people had of him. Truly I enjoyed every moment, creatively and emotionally it was challenging rewarding and beautiful.

I don’t think I could ever have prepared myself for the weekly roller coaster of not knowing if my decisions were the right ones, if my choreography was enough or did my concept make sense. Wondering when it would come together or did I have to re think everything. It always came together because Andy is such a superstar, he truly helped me make my ideas come to life. I also couldn’t have guessed that I would make the emotional connection I did with Andy. He was such an amazing person to get to know and become a part of his life.

2. How are you feeling about the new changes coming to Dancing With The Stars next season? Whatever happens, many fans like myself just hope you’ll be returning.

LOL, me too!!!!

At first I was taken back by the news, my head started reeling on how would we fit it all in the Monday show!! But now after thinking about it and discussing it with others, I’m actually super excited!! I think that 16 seasons on we are ready for change, we need to keep it fresh and excite our audience and fans again. One thing I know is for certain and that’s our Monday show will be a massive dance spectacle and give no one any chance of getting bored!! And on a selfish note… I’m going to LOVE that extra day with my celeb 🙂

3. Recently one of our readers (Laura) contacted to let us know they saw you at the new “Michael Jackson One” Cirque du Soleil premiere in Las Vegas. How was it and is this a show dancing and Michael Jackson fans would love like myself? Your boyfriend Paul Kirkland also helped with the show too, right? Anything you can tell us on this new show and things you loved about it would be appreciated.

OMG where do I start!!? If there is anything in my life I feel like I missed out on its seeing MJ perform live. He was and still is one of the greatest influences on my career, his love for his craft and how innovative and fearless he was not just in music but in dance is something that no matter your preferred genre, you have to admire and respect. In this MJ ONE cirque show, I feel like it captured a little piece of that. The entire show is breath taking and brilliant, and unlike any other cirque show I’ve seen, but there was this one number, where MJ came out as an incredibly real hologram. He was dancing with the dancers on stage, he flipped a coin and the dancer caught it in a hat. He was SO REAL that my eyes welled up and I grabbed my boyfriend Paul Kirkland and just said “thank you”. Because in that moment I felt like I got a tiny piece of something I never thought I was possible.

4. So now that Dancing With The Stars is over, what are your summer plans? Do you have any dancing projects you are working on or things we should be on the watch out for? Will you be paying your homeland, Australia, a visit??

I am keeping June relatively free just so I can relax and do all the normal things i haven’t had time for the last few months. I may do a few commercials, I have shows booked through the break and I’m also judging again at the USA Hip Hop Championships (Hip Hop International ) in August so that will be fun! A lot of things are on the fly and I’m always starting my own creative projects, the dancing never stops in this house 😉
