PureDWTS 2013 Hollywood Reporter Makes Emmy Predictions For The Reality Categories

Hollywood Reporter is making some early predictions for who might win an Emmy in the “Reality” categories!! Note how their analyst, Scott Feinberg, “expects “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance” to split the vote of dance fans and allow “The Amazing Race” to win yet again, and “Deadliest Catch” to pick up its second statuette in three years.” (Huh? No, please no! We want Dancing With The Stars to win!) Below is a take about Dancing With The Stars for Scott’s pros and cons….

Dancing With the Stars (ABC)

PRO: The show helped to make dancing cool again by pairing celebs with pros and sending them off to be judged. It has been a bridesmaid in this category every year since 2006 but received a category-leading nine noms this year, including one for host Tom Bergeron (his sixth in a row), last year’s winner.

CON: Two dance shows could split the support of the genre’s fans, and So You Think You Can Dance received four choreography noms versus DWTS’ two.

More at Hollywood Reporter. Let’s hope the predictions keep coming. To see our previous posting on the 2013 Emmy Nominations, visit this link.

Derek Hough Interviewed About Kate Hudson, Maks Chmerkovskiy, New DWTS Season, And More

Hey All! For those who don’t know, last night Dancing With The Stars Emma Slater and Derek Hough danced in Central park, New York City for a “Sears Style” event. Emma has been posting some amazing high quality photos of the event at her twitter and her facebook which are a must see. For even more, don’t miss heading over to Pure Derek Hough when you get time for even more coverage including videos and twitter pictures.

Also at the event, Derek spoke with E News about the new season of Dancing With The stars. Derek mentioned why he decided to come back. There is also a mention on his sister Julianne and Maks Chmerkovskiy and whether we’ll see them return (I love what he says about Maks and it’s so true for the both of them!). Derek also mentioned how he’s teaching actress Kate Hudson how to dance and how he’d like to have her do a guest spot on the show. Here is take….

“I’ve been working with Kate Hudson a little bit lately for fun—just dancing for fun, giving her some lessons,” Hough told E! News exclusively at the Sears Shop Your Way and SearsStyle Jean Scene event in NYC. “She’s become a good friend and she’s great. I would love for her to do the show, but she would never. She’s fantastic. But I want her to maybe do a guest spot.”

I’d love to see this happen, would you? Be sure to read the full article at E News.

PureDWTS Karina Smirniff Talks About Relationships, Her Book, and More On The View

In case you missed Karina Smirnoff on The View today, she talked about “relationships” with Whoopi, Sherri, and Barbara. They ask her about her two engagements. Karina explains how they didn’t work out and why she gave the ring back. Karina also adds that this is one of the subjects she writes of in her new book and everything she learned from those experiences. Most importantly, she learned to be a “better person”.

Karina does great job at co-hosting. She’s full of heart, sincere, and fun….and she’s radiating in yellow too. You can watch more of Karina in this episode in full at The View.

Speaking of Karina, Charlesg315 You Tube recorded her dancing with Maks Chmerkovskiy in Forever Tango. This is fun too. Thanks to @DWTSMaksimFans for this find…

PureDWTS Ballroom With A Twist Review, Derek Hough Attends Cosmopolitan Summer Bash

Hey All! Don’t miss heading over to Pure Derek Hough when you get a moment. Last night, Dancing With The Stars pro Derek Hough attended the Cosmopolitan Summer Bash at the Palihouse in West Hollywood, California. Derek wore the cutest pair of jeans and a light gray knit sweater layered over a white T. Such a Doll as always.

Also, Pure Derek Hough has several new fan reviews and pictures covering Derek’s dancing in “Ballroom With A Twist” from this past week. Peta Murgratroyd, Tristan MacManus, and Anna Trebunskaya all received raving reviews as well. So, be sure to take them in as well.

PureDWTS reader DW also attended one of the “Ballroom With A Twist” shows. Below is what DW reports to us…..

I attended the North Shore Music Theater performance and wanted to add a few personal impressions: I thought Tristan was hilarious as an emcee and that he, Anna & Peta are even more gorgeous in person than on TV if that is even possible. T&A’s dancing was exquisite and magical and a major treat in and of itself. They were fabulous together, and Tristan, Peta, Derek and Anna, when they danced a quartet number, were vastly superior to the troupe dancers, (which, by the way, unless I am mistaken, included Oksana from the DWTS troupe and her hair and her dancing were a hot mess. But, it might’ve been because she was in pain: she had an ace bandage on her ankle). When Tristan introduced Peta, the audience clapped enthusiastically, but when he introduced “a wee blonde guy you may know” the audience erupted and went crazy!!! Many have said it before, but Derek is even more stunning in person than on TV. I think, besides his undeniable physical beauty, it is his mind-blowing charisma, intensity, energy and light that he projects to the audience; I was just mesmerized and glued to his every move. Coupled with his unmatchable perfect dancing and his genuine humanity, warmth and kindness toward his fans (especially the little Down’s Syndrome girl, who, when he was hugging her gave a “thumbs up” behind his back to the crowd!), and you have someone really, uniquely, one-of-a-kind special. His voice was a little scratchy and I was worried he would have to cancel, but he was a warrior and persevered. I’ve been a fan since he started on DWTS, but to experience him as a humorist and dancer in person was amazing and it had the effect of making me very happy. Hard to explain why, really, but true. I suspect he has that effect on a lot of people. I have to give thumbs up also to the singers from AI and the dancers from SYTYCD who were just fabulous. The only disappointment was that Derek, Tristan, Peta, and Anna didn’t dance nearly long enough and that the troupe was the core of the show, with the AI, DWTS and SYTYCD stars as the icing on the cake. The troupe was OK, but over-danced, over-performed and could not even touch the excellence of D/T/P/A, and I felt I had seen way too much of them. I’m so thrilled that I got to see this show and the memories will last me a long time! Thank you Derek and all for a wonderful evening!

Thanks DW! What a fun and busy week it’s been for our Pros!!

DWTS Gleb Savchenko And Elena Samodanova Shoot Powerful, Beautiful Campaign Video For GS Underwear

Wow, what an amazing fashion campaign video this is!!! Pro dancers of Dancing With The Stars Gleb Savchenko and Elena Samodanova, are in Honk Kong, China currently shooting a video for “GS” underwear. Elena reports to us that what they filmed was a “Contemporary Rumba”. They shot this video for two days at 5:00 am in the morning on the most beautiful beach as you will soon see. They flew in from Sydney, Australia just to shoot this video. The Video director is Alexey Balash. Maks Chmerkovskiy Talks Of Re-Inventing Himself, Moving On From Dancing With The Stars, And More

Do you think pro Maks Chmerkovskiy misses Dancing With The Stars? Wow, I’m shocked (but, I guess I shouldn’t be)at his answer…which is a “no”. 🙁 In a new interview with the NY Press, he tells them why. Maks also tells them if he was guaranteed a winner and a trophy, he’s not sure he would do it. More in detail below….

Do you miss Dancing with the Stars?
No.

Why not?
Because I think I’ve done it long enough. I think there’s nothing there for me to prove. I’m at the point where I need to set up my future. And if I don’t do it now by cutting the cord and trying to reinvent myself, I may never be able to after this comes to an end, which at one point it will. Or I’ll get old and won’t be able to dance. And at that time I want to be able to fall back on something that I’ve built. I want an extended career in this industry just because I can, unless someone tells me that I can’t. That’s why we’re trying my hand in acting. I’m curious to see how that’s going to work. It’s fascinating to study and learn a new skill.

I saw you on All My Children.
I hope you didn’t. But the point is that I’m not missing Dancing with the Stars because I think it’s unnatural for me to miss it. I’ve been there for 13 seasons. It’s been eight years. How long can I do this thing and miss it? If I did it once and never again, I’d miss it.

So will you go back to DWTS one day?
If they guarantee me a winner and the trophy’s mine, I’m going to look at it and go, “I don’t know if I have it in me to stay with somebody for three months and be into it the way I’m supposed to be.” And I don’t want to be unfair and jeopardize someone else’s chances.

Your brother Val also dances on the show. What’s it like being an older brother?
It’s a lot of responsibility, but I went from him being my student first. He was my best pupil. And it’s not like I have to say it. He was never a teacher’s pet. He was in his family-owned studio and never jumped out and was always part of the class. The problem was coming home; I just wanted a brother, and he was staying a pupil. So we had a bit of a transitional period maybe four or five years ago, and since then, we’re just best friends.

To read the full interview which includes questions on Forever tango and Karina Smirnoff, visit the NY Press. Thanks to @DWTSgossip for the find.

My thoughts: Sad. I kind of thought (and hoped too) we’d see Maks back for Dancing With The Stars Season 17, but, now I have to wonder? Also, I’m not sure I want him back now if he doesn’t miss it or have the heart. Maybe he’s destined for other things.

Let’s see what Heidi thinks….

Heidi: I think that if that’s how he feels, he better not be on the show. If he’s on the show now, he’s just admitted that he doesn’t have it in him. And good for him if he’s tired of doing it and wants to do something else – the alternative is being like Cheryl. Or possibly Mark. Both seem like they’ve moved on in their hearts but don’t want to quit.  But part of me is afraid this is a negotiating tactic on Maks’ part.  I hope not. But in any case, good luck to him.
