PureDWTS Media After The Dance, New Dances Revealed, Dance Off Planned For Week 7

What another fun night of TV on Dancing With The Stars. I’m still put off with the judges overscoring and underscoring (especially Len! Does he need to retire? I’m starting to seriously think so! 😕 ), but hey!! Anyway, let’s see what the dancers thought of last night’s dances with George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet. Note how he finds out a few of the new dances for next week. It’s Latin Week. They have an individual dance and an IMMUNITY DANCE OFF too which Sharna explains in her and Andy’s interview…..

First up! Kelly and Derek talk of how much fun they had doing Team Samba! Derek said it didn’t come together until Sunday!! George asks them how it feels to be at the top of the leader board, but, Kellie says she “pays no mind to that”. She’s not a competitive person and just wants have fun and find joy in dancing for what she’s fallen in love with.

Jacoby and Karina say last night wasn’t their “friend” and neither was Len. Next week, Karina said they won’t concentrate so much on footwork. They still had a lot of fun and enjoyed the night. Jacoby gets goofy at the end and they send some love to Baltimore.

Aly and Mark are happy their team dance pulled them to second place. Mark was glad to be teamed up with Derek since he can say what he wants to him. Aly and Mark were hoping for some 9’s for their individual dance, but, they are still happy (this is their best costume, do you agree? LOL!)

Val and Zendaya! George goes over their scores and asks how much their scores mean. Zendaya doesn’t concentrate on that. She just wants to get the dance right and meet their expectations which are high for the both of them. She wants to do the best she can. Details matter to Val and he likes to choreograph movement and action. He doesn’t just want the dance to look good. He wants it to feel good. Next week they have the Paso Doble. Val’s head is already spinning with ideas. He plans to redeem themselves from their team dance. He’s got a big move planned.

Andy says they may have received lower points for the individual dance, but, they are dancing their hearts out. They are glad their team dance worked in their favor. It was the hardest week, but, the most fun. If they make it next week (which they are hoping for), it will be even more fun because they have a Rumba. Sharna says it will be “beautiful”. It’s Latin Week and they will also have a immunity DANCE OFF!! Sharna explains how they have to have three routines ready (which can be a Samba, Rumba, or a Jive for it). The bottom will have to battle it out.

DWTS 16, Week 6 – Power Rankings

Well, guess tonight didn’t end up too bad after all – team samba pulled out a win (despite being at a clear disadvantage from the get-go), Len got taken to task by the audience for basically being a douchebag, and perhaps best of all: I made it through the show without committing a felony, due to my asthma medication-induced ‘roid rage 🙂 But that’s not to say everything was hunky dory.  There was definite overscoring (duh, Zendaya; and to a lesser degree, Ingo & Sean), definite underscoring (Jacoby), and out-and-out cruelty (which left Andy in tears…inexcusable, IMO).  Let’s get right to it…

1.) Kellie & Derek – I think I was prepared for both their quickstep and the team samba to be a trainwreck, after hearing how poorly their rehearsals were going this week…but I was very pleasantly surprised at how well Kellie kept up in this quickstep, and didn’t miss a beat.  She also seemed to correct a lot of the issues I saw with her posture last week, which was an added bonus.  Maybe not the most exciting quickstep Derek has ever choreographed, but when you’re struggling, going for simplicity (and meat-and-potatoes steps to please Len) is your best bet.  I honestly don’t remember a whole lot of their solo from the team samba, but besides a few minor stutters from Kellie, I think they handled it well.  Obviously a front-runner; now let’s hope they resist the urge to low-ball next week…

2.) Zendaya & Val – First of all, if you are not mature (or literate) enough to understand the difference between being mad at TPTB for pimping someone and being mad at the person themselves, then consider this an invitation to stop reading and come back when you’ve educated yourself.  Ok, now that we’ve got that off the table – I really think Val let her down this week, because I found his choreography in both the cha-cha and the team paso to be a bit dumbed down.  The cha-cha was good, and she danced it very well, but I’m starting to notice a lot of stop-and-go in Val’s choreography – parts where they suddenly stop and Zendaya kinda stands still while Val does…I don’t know, something.  A spin, a flourish, whatever.  And it doesn’t do her justice – the girl can handle tough choreography, so she shouldn’t need all these little pauses.  Pauses are for couples who can’t dance 🙂 I also think that, while she’s great at doing spin after spin after spin (and Val has actually taught her how to spot her turns – something he never really got Kelly to master), he has GOT to do something about her legs. I could have driven a boat show in between them in that cha-cha – you have to close your thighs to get the right hip & leg action.  And here they were complaining about Kellie & Derek having some space in between them while in hold…psssh.  Again, I reiterate: Val, you have got to figure out what you’re going to do with those legs…because Len will cease to be dazzled by her showmanship before too long, and he will start to get nitpicky.  She did well in their team paso…but her solo choreography felt a bit blah.  Like she could have handled something more.  I think her cha-cha was overscored, and the team paso was about right-on, but there’s no doubt she’s safe this week…and that bland team paso will probably get the encore tomorrow night.  Read more..

Victor Ortiz Strongly Dislikes Training And Ready To Throw The Towel In On Dancing With The Stars?

In a new interview with ESPN, Victor Ortiz says he loves performing on Dancing With The Stars, but, he “strongly dislikes” the training for it and doesn’t want to put in the work. Below is more. This isn’t good. It sounds like Victor is ready to give up even though he says he isn’t? I get a negative vibe. What do you think?

Former welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz is ready to throw in the towel on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and jump back in the ring.

I know you’re not going to quit the dancing show as you’re consistently in the middle of the pack, but why do you think it’s time to go?

“I came into the competition to try to win. As of right now, I haven’t given up, but I don’t feel I can actually win this thing. I’m just trying to stay alive. I’m trying to enjoy it for what it’s worth.”

What’s been the worst part of it?

“I love performing on Mondays, but I hate coming into the studio to train. Let me rephrase that: I strongly dislike it. I dislike the fact that I’m in a room for six or seven hours and doing something not in my element. It’s not my world. I’m really uncomfortable.”

I assume that also comes from being a perfectionist.

“It’s a lot more work than I expected. I just don’t want to put in the work. I will when it comes to boxing. But when I mess up while dancing, it gets overwhelming. You feel helpless. When I don’t nail something to perfection, it sucks.”

Before weighing in, be sure to read this interview in full at ESPN.

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

So, this week’s gimmick is twitter voting for your favorite team dance – winner gets the encore. Jesus, will it ever end??   Listen up, DWTS, I’m on strike and I’m not participating in your stupid crap any more.  Also, regarding last weeks pimping of pros not on this season??  The ratings:

Week 2 – 14.47 million viewers/2.4 in the demo
Week 3 – 13.91 million viewers/2.2 in the demo
Week 4 – 13.15 Million viewers/2.1 in the demo (BBall Championships)
Week 5 – 13.4 Million viewers/2.2 in the demo

Yep, still a downward trend over all. Don’t get me wrong – still great ratings relative to TV in general. DWTS is still a top 10 show and sneaks into the Top 5 at times. But whatever they’re going for -it ain’t working. Except to piss people off. 🙂 And ensuring that Zendaya gets plenty of face time.

Did Andy and Victor reveal what they are dancing and I missed it?? Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 16, Weeks 4 and 5 – The Cheesecake Awards, SUPERSIZED!!

Well, it case you hadn’t figured it out, Courtney and I got overwhelmed last week and didn’t get the cheesecake baked before the next performance show. So this week you get a supersized version – twice as b#@chy and twice as long. 😉  Well, maybe not twice as long…there aren’t that many things funny about this show any more. 🙂

Week 4

The “YO! I said Shut UP!” Award: Carrie Ann Inaba whose mic wasn’t working when she was trying to critique Sean’s dancing

Heidi: I think someone’s trying to tell her something. Either Sean has magic powers or it’s not nice to diss the “family”. Or the production muppets fail again. Take your pick.

Courtney: I think they should dream up some sort of communication obstacle for her each week, just so we don’t have to listen to her self-righteous blathering.  Maybe one week, she’ll have to phrase all of her critiques in pig Latin; the next week, tell her she can’t use any verbs; the following week, she will only be allowed to use hand gestures.  Then I’d actually look forward to her critiques – for the pure comedy they would bring 😛

Heidi: “You ucksay and I inkthay I awsay a iftlay!”

The “You don’t look like a screamer” Award: Lindsay, for screaming her way through the Paso Doble with Victor

Heidi: Hey! That’s totally not what I meant! You people with dirty minds. 🙂 Anyway, I’m not so sure the “I’m a maniac” method works, particularly on guys like Victor. 🙂 Really, screaming at the top of your lungs?? You can see her yelling through out the entire dance!

Courtney: Poor Lindsay – she’s just terribly, terribly green when it comes to being a pro.  I highly doubt that if your celeb is messing up, yelling at him at progressively louder volumes is going to help.  And really, if he’s screwing up that bad in the first place – you probably haven’t done your job as a pro and gotten him rehearsed enough.  It’s times like these where I think to myself, “Would it have KILLED you guys to just put her in the troupe for a season or two?” 😯 Read more..

“Episode 1606 & 1606A” – Eight remaining couples hit the dance floor and pay tribute to singer, songwriter and legend Stevie Wonder, MONDAY, APRIL 22 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). Stevie Wonder takes over the ballroom as “Dancing with the Stars” devotes, for the first time, an entire evening to one artist. He will perform some of his classic songs, including “Sir Duke” and “My Cherie Amour,” and the celebrities will dance to his greatest hits, including “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” “For Once in My Life” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).” Special guest country superstar Hunter Hayes will perform with Stevie Wonder in a spectacular opening performance. DWTS Season 16 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 6 – Do You Agree or Disagree?

“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” ~Billy Jean King on beating the odds

Sports Bovada has their new Odds posted!! As you can see, they aren’t too much different than the week before with an exception of there aren’t any ties for last place this time which I’m glad for. Though I still don’t think they are giving Andy Dick enough credit for the mark he’s made with his dancing and entertainment factor. For what I’ve seen, fans of Dancing With The Stars are loving him for the most part. I’m also not in agreement for how high they keep putting Aly Raisman and Sean Lowe. However, I totally agree with Victor being in last place! Take a look and then read below for what Heidi and Court think. Be sure you let us know what you think as well.

Zendaya Coleman 11/10
Kellie Pickler 2/1
Jacoby Jones 13/4
Aly Raisman 15/2
Sean Lowe 33/1
Ingo Rademacher 75/1
Andy Dick 150/1
Victor Ortiz 200/1

Here are last week’s Las Vegas Odds to compare.

Zendaya Coleman 8/5
Kellie Pickler 2/1
Jacoby Jones 13/4
Aly Raisman 5/1
Ingo Rademacher 33/1
Sean Lowe 33/1
Andy Dick 100/1
D.L. Hughley 100/1
Victor Ortiz 100/1

Court and Heidi?

Courtney: Dang, they really think Zendaya is gonna run away with this thing, huh? I still think there are politics in play that could potentially play spoiler to that one – namely the fact that I think viewers are wising up to some of the manipulation, and may retaliate by voting in in a direction opposite to the one TPTB are trying to lead them in.  I think the fact that Jacoby ended up with the encore this week (after it was pretty widely believed that Zendaya was going to get it) could be a testament to the power of the average (read: not necessarily young) voter to change the course of the competition.  I would keep a close eye on Jacoby – I think he may currently be the biggest threat to Zendaya running away with a MBT.  As for the bottom of the pack – I still think Andy has a much better chance than Victor, and at this point I think he may even have a better chance than Ingo.  Ingo’s stock seems to be dropping pretty rapidly, and I think he could end up in the bottom 2 this week.

Heidi: Well, they have to have Aly and Sean that high because there’s not really any where else to put them! 🙂  I do think that they could move Andy up between Aly and Sean, but other than that, they seem to have it basically right. Although I don’t think Zendaya is such a lock. I think Jacoby could easily beat her.  Depends on what happens the next couple weeks.

PureDWTS Aly Raisman Chats On The Most Surprising Thing About Mark Ballas, The Boston Bombings, And More

The LA Times interviewed Aly after her week 5 dance on Dancing With The Stars. They talk of Mark Ballas and the most surprising thing she learned about him. She also gives her thoughts for what it was like to perform after the Boston bombings and in what order she’s like to dance if she could pick….

Q. You consider Boston to be your hometown, so performing a dance on Monday must have seemed a bit strange considering the tragedy at the Boston Marathon earlier that day.

Yes, performing on Monday was very difficult for me. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the tragedy since I first heard the news in our dress rehearsal. It is so heartbreaking and terrible. My heart goes out to everyone back home in Boston and anyone else who was affected by [Monday’s] incident.

Q. If you had a choice, would you rather dance first and get it over with, or dance last and see how everyone else did?

I would rather go first! I am used to going last in gymnastics. I love going last because you have enough time to prepare and to check out the competition, but here on “DWTS” it’s a little different. I don’t consider this as much of a competition because I’ve just been having so much fun! I just love cheering everyone on, and the show and atmosphere are both amazing. It’s exciting for to me to see everyone improve so much each week! I love this show and I’m having a blast!

Please keep your thoughts and prayers with Boston and vicinity. They need us more than ever!!

To read the full interview, see the LA Times. Stay tuned later. We hope to have more with Mark!!!
