Dancing with the Stars Season 20, Week SIX – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Below is what we know so far for the new dances and Team Dances for Dancing With The Stars Season 20 Week 6 and note that it’s “Spring Break” Week.
ETA: We have our first song spoiler! Though I can’t say it’s exactly SPRING breaky… -Court-
ETA2: Figured I’d go ahead and confirm this one, since they were already strongly hinting at it in the live stream…oh, and apparently the teams have names now (pix below). Sure hope Rumer’s team didn’t give themselves a headache coming up with such an original team name 😛
ETA3: Court, you were right. Carrie Ann is calling next week’s theme “Spring Break Extravaganza” according to her new blog.
ETA4: We don’t know what belongs to who, but we know the remaining dances for next week are (2) jives, a samba, a salsa, and a Viennese waltz. Discuss. 🙂
ETA5: Well we managed to fill in the blanks based on what Just Jared posted. I think the music folks at DWTS and I have very different ideas of what a “spring break” song is, though – some of these seem more like summer break songs, and some seem…dumb.
ETA6: Per Artem in the live rehearsal stream, Patti has apparently switched to quickstep. Hmmmm…perhaps the jive was too hard for her to barely move to?
ETA7: Not to be outdone, Riker has decided to change songs. See below. :::rolls eyes::: When can we go back to the good old days where you danced to what they gave you. That certainly told us who our choreographers were. Although, before that – years ago – the pros chose ALL the music. The pendulum swings… 🙂 ~Heidi

Team dance is next week! #DWTS #TeamValenRue #TeamRallison #TeamBelleArte #TeamSouleShakers @ruelarue @iamvalc @rikerr5 @allisonholker @mspattilabelle @artemchigvintse @souleschris @witneycarson A photo posted by Dancing with the Stars (@dancingabc) on
Yea. I have always wanted to see Derek do a “surfer theme”. Like these team members too!
Wonder what song Noah and Sharna have.
When I heard “Spring Break” Week I was thinking a whole bunch of fun, crazy dances. I was thinking like… ChaCha, Jive, Salsa and Samba. The Rumba never even crossed my mind for this theme.
Cam’t wait to find out what these songs are and see if they even have anything to do with “Spring Break” lol.
I wonder if they are going to give Noah and sharna “roller coaster” by Luke Bryan. There are a few good rumba songs on his spring break albums besides that one too.
Vin, a country song was exactly what I was thinking! I couldn’t think what off the top of my head, but Rollercoaster could be a good choice. Or maybe something like 19 (You & Me) by Dan & Shay.
Forgive my ignorance as I am English and not accustomed to “Spring Break” but I always conjure up an image of beach/pool parties with Rock and Roll/RnB/Dance-EDM-House styles of music. Rumba does not for me give me the “Spring Break” vibe
Sure, let’s have a song called “Summer” that is about a summer fling (more or less) for Spring Break night.
That makes perfect sense. 😀
Well I’ll admit I’ve had some flings during Spring Break before and they were in locations that felt like summer so it could kind of fit. lol
@Nathan UK – I believe you guys refer to it as “going on holiday” – or maybe “spring holiday”? 🙂 In the states, it’s the spring semester break for all the colleges, and they all seem to make a pilgrimage to Florida to drink themselves into a stupor, get a 3rd degree sunburn, contract a venereal disease, and generally make fools of themselves. I think you guys do something similar – it just seems more cosmopolitan because you guys do it in Ibiza and Saint Tropez instead of Fort Lauderdale or Panama City Beach 😛
@cm: that’s a good one too. I was thinking maybe something by Keith urban too (I can’t remeber the songs name but it was the one where he tells someone to take a cat and a sweater amongst other things….I’m terrible with song names when it comes to him).
@Michelle Hahaha. I think plenty of people can relate to that.
Thinking about it now, I fully expect CarrieAnn and/or Julianne (maybe even Bruno) to make some sort of comment next week about their Spring Break flings. Something alone the lines of: “Your dance reminded me of that one spring fling I had some years ago…..”
NATHAN UK: Watch Dirty Dancing one more time! The scenes in the staff’s cabins, has a very old school spring break vibe! HA HA
Sorry for the brief commentary, but man I would love to see DWTS give Derek’s group a remote location on one of the SoCal beaches. That would be killer!
Is there an elimination this week?! Noah says clearly in a Men’s Health magazine interview that there is not! I wasn’t sure if it was a mistake or that’s actually the case. It kind of make sense because with a double elimination week 7 the numbers would be pretty far off in terms of couples by the finale
I hope there is no elimination this week….wod have made more sense to do Disney week thT week becuase it would have been more fun for the celebs.
I wish we could have had the double elimination yesterday, and I think Chris and Witney might agree.
When there is a switchup, there is no elimination. They may have cancelled the switchup and left the no elimination idea in there. Court may know, but I haven’t been paying attention.
I know the interview CC is talking about, but Erin said at the end of the show, one couple is going home. This was however published after that: http://mhlthm.ag/YgB9Lh he says that under a question about his score
Woah Nastia chose her team wisely. Those pros toghether have 8(?) MBT, not that it matters to the team dance but you can see they clearly know what they are doing and how it has to be done to win the show.
The other team have to be smart so Rumer and Riker dont overdance their team mates (same goes to Val and Allison, they sometimes dance like they are competing against their own partner), otherwise is gonna be super obvious (most likely will be anyway) how awkward Chris dances and how little Patti can move.
So Val and Rumer walked into Noah’s livestream rehearsal just now. Funniest thing I have seen all day. They were asking him what “Bootylicious” meant to him and then he said Rumer had a nice bum. God, I love this cast and I love Noah. Lol.
Val also said they have a Hip-Hoppy-Jazz dance for next week. I’m guessing it’s just the “Jazz” with a Hip-Hop feel. Probably to “Bootylicious”?
I can already smell the raves and the perfect score considering they have Jazz; which is basically a Freestyle…. Barf….
I don’t know why but I have a strange feeling Riker might be dancing one of his own songs, don’t pop bands sing about parties and spring break and stuff? Haha just an idea. No idea what’s happening with the boyband scene these days.
I dont like them bringing in all those different styles…the freestyle loses its purpose than…
Okay I’m going to try this again and see if I can get it right.
During Noah’s All Access rehersal, Val and Rumer came in and asked what bootylicious meant to Noah and Sharna. Discussion issued, which was hysterical btw….Sharna asked Val what their dance was and he said ” jazzy – hip hop”. It was muffled as Val didn’t have a mic, but the gist is that they may be considering the Destiny’s Child song. There were going around asking for opinions and feedback.
Anyone else catch the live rehersal?
CCNY posted while I was typing, so someone else heard it too.
Hey CC and Rachel, next time you run into an interview and it hasn’t been posted yet, write to our contact us link, so we can get it up, ok? Thanks so much.
Ok, the new Afterbuzz TV show just mentioned there won’t be an elimination next week too (they got their info from the new Men’s Health Magazine too).
Oh I always forget to watch Afterbuzz when it’s live.
Thanks for the info, Vogue! I’m guessing the votes from this week are gonna carry on to Week 7? I have a feeling we’re gonna lose both Chris and Patti on that week. At least that would be an ideal scenario, for me anyways 😛
If this is the case (which I’m still not sure of) my guess is that votes and scores from this week and week 6 will eliminate a couple on Monday of week 7, then the votes and scores from Monday Week 7 will eliminate a couple during the results show Tuesday
YW! And yeah, I agree on your picks for the double elimination.
I’m glad . This will give Robert a chance to redeem himself. It’ll be a shame if he leaves before Patti and Chris
Switch-up was originally supposed to be week 6, but was cancelled. I bet they just left the no-elim in there to avoid screwing too much with the schedule.
Caught both live streams today Keo was funny but straight to the point and I didn’t see Val and Rumor but heard a door open in the background
So Switch-Up is canceled? Spring Break theme will be interesting to see.
I hope so! I know erin said at the end of last weeks show that a couple would go home next week that’s why I was confused when I first read it
That was too confusing! At the end of Disney night Erin gave her usual speech about how the couple with the lowest number of votes would leave next week! Then this interview was published this morning…I wonder who is actually right
Tuned into to afterbuzz live today for the 1st time I guess I will avoid it hence forth for all the reasons 🙁
Also at afterbuzz they said there will not be any elimination next week
lol i watched it too mishti…I feel like everyone is unessecarily harsh on both nastia and derek….like so nitpicky…the show is about growth…there is room for them to grow…but, yea when people are harsh on them it makes me think that they are either threatened by them or jealous.
i also think since there are so many new styles that arent ballroom instead of a freestyle…they should give the finalists a super hard ballroom dance to learn…bc the freestyle is becoming pointless especially with the level of production they are using on a weekly basis.
Sometimes I think it actually is working in favor of Derek and Nastia its making ppl mad and want to vote more for them coz all seem to be unfair to them 🙁 but again tats me I cant say tat for every one tou 🙂 may be its only making me mad to vote like crazy
I agree with others that I don’t like a bunch of crazy styles. Last year when they brought in all those crazy styles for the partner switch up nobody knew how to choreography/teach them. They should just stay with Latin/ballroom and a few other styles that they’ve done on the show before like Jazz and contemporary for bring break week.
If Nastia really does have the Tango I’m interested to see how she does. I think she’ll struggle a little more with standard ballroom dances. In Latin she can used her flexibility of her body to her advantage but in ballroom you can’t do that as much. I think she struggled with certain things on her foxtrot in week one because of her gymnastics background. Also hoping that after a few weeks of production heaving dances from many of the couples, we see some more pure dancing.
Is it just me, or does Nastia look stoked as hell in the Team YOLO pic? Or at least as stoked as she herself can possibly look? 😛
Nastia does look pretty excited.. and super cute! 🙂 I think she knows deep down inside she has the best team and she’s probably gonna win. When you have Derek and Mark after all….
The only thing I do not like about Nastia’s team is their team name. Really? YOLO? Can we stop trying to make that “word” happen again? Lol. Can’t wait to find out how they came up with that.
Thanks for warning me to avoid afterbuzz. I guess they really enjoyed the non-samba
#TeamYOLO is just as much of a “complex” name as #TeamTrouble…
Mama Spence totally bought one of those “inspirational” wooden block things with “YOLO” painted on it at some gift shop. It now sits on our end table and makes me shake my head in shame. 🙂
I’m personally very excited for this week! I think there are going to be a lot of party songs, but I’d love a classic like Rock Lobster. It gives them another use for the crab costumes!
SoapView, are you just looking to pick a fight? Starting to think you are…not a good start to your time posting here.
No, I’m happy to find a dwts-centric site 🙂 The team names have been VERY simple the past few seasons, and “yolo” and “trouble” both fall under that caveat.
In CAI’s blog, she says the Anniversary show is May 14th. That makes more sense than April 21st because that’s next week.
Glad to see Rumer&Val get jazz, as even Carrie Ann noted in her blog she’d like to see them do something less heavy and more fun.
Interesting to see Nastia&Derek [possibly] getting Tango… It could be akin, (depending on the official song choice) to Meryl&Maks’ Tango in S18. (which was on “Party Anthem Night”)
I’m rather incensed that Val seemingly gets his pick of music and dances every week. They must want him to win pretty badly. Hope it bites him in the ass. What a diva. Yo, Val – the Emmy winner usually does the dance assigned and takes crap you turned down and turns it in to very good or great dances. This is why you are the lesser pro. By a lot.
Except the choreo is likely to be far better than anything Meryl and Maks did. Talk about over rated choreo. Meryl’s best dance was with Val.
And what happened to that version of Val?? He turned into Maks whose choreo was always filled with walking or running.
Truer words have never been spoken. I.T.A. with you PHeidi.
Ah, hell. Rumer and Val have jazz which is basically freestyle which means expect a perfect score.
I hope Robert and Kym have something like Paso or AT, but considering the theme my guess will be samba or jive, not really the dance I want them to come back with if I’m honest
i am willing to bet…rumer would probably do a better job choreographing a jazz routine than val…
I loooooove TeamYOLO! It has all my favorite people this season! The only one missing is Riker and Allison. That’s my dream top 5 for this show. Alas, that’s not what the producers of DWTS want :/
Jive, salsa, samba and jazz make sense for Spring Break.
A tango, Viennese waltz and rumba don’t. lol Will be interesting to see what songs Noah has for his rumba and the VW that make sense for Spring Break.
Getting more sexy and potentially edgy from Rumer and Val. Sigh…
I would guess they’re trying to save as many Waltzes, Tangos and (hopefully!) Pasos for Classical Night as possible so I’m a bit amused that we have a Viennese Waltz on Spring Break Night.
Those darn Viennese Waltzers! They’re such wild, party animals! Call the cops! They’re waltzing drunk across my lawn!
Maybe YOLO is sort of in reference to Noah? I mean in a good way. Like You Only Live Once (as he too well knows) so just go for it. Just a thought.
The waltz and rumba put a bit of a damper on the mood of the night. Tango I can rationalize slightly as they can be pretty powerful when done right (maybe not “spring break-y” though!).
Based on the celebs left and the dances Courtney mentioned Patti and Riker only have the possibility of two dances each. Patti will have either jive or samba and Riker will have either waltz or samba. I don’t know if I can see them giving Patti a jive with her injury but I do think she could have fun with it. I hope she gets jive though because I would rather see Riker do a samba than a waltz. I’m going to guess Willow has one of the jives for sure though. Just seems more up her alley than the other options.
I loved Meryl and maks choreo. Well half of it. I loved their rumba, argentine tango, and foxtrot (even though their rumba was more of a contemporumba). But make does have way too much walking in his routines ph. I haven’t really liked vals choreo this season, I feel like he could have portrayed rumer better. I almost wish there was a switch up week to see if other stars did better with other pros. I’m excited to see nastia and dereks tango. Which reminds me after Mondays show, I re watched their argentine tango. Way under scored! I wonder if it would have gotten tens if they had performed it this week instead of last week. Does anyone think the show would ever possibly get all new judges? I like them as people but not as judges. They’re not consistent and their comments are dumb.
A Viennese Waltz for Spring Break Night? It sounds too weird in my opinion. I hope the song is in some way related to Spring Break though.
My guess is Willow and Robert have the Jives, Chris has the Salsa, Riker has the Viennese Waltz and Patti has the Samba. Those just seem like reasonable choices for each couple.
I don’t see them giving Patti the Jive.. considering she has an injury, it would be a dick move to give her that dance. She also just did the Waltz so don’t think they’ll give her a Viennese one. 😛
Really hoping I’m right and Riker has the V-Waltz. I just wanna see him do something more elegant and fluid. His Foxtrot was pretty elegant, but still very edgy.
I think the V. waltz will make a lot more sense when you hear the song. Hint: it might be from a musical 😉
Something from High School Musical or Grease?
Great, now I have “Summer Lovin'” stuck in my head, haha.
Whoever got the Viennese waltz for spring break week got screwed over, anywho should be a fun week!
Chris and witney have the waltz just Jared put up the songs
Sorry I posted too early, which by elimination means Riker has the samba and Patti had the Jive (ouch) so with the dances left id say willow would get the jive over the salsa and Robert would have the salsa
Willow definitely got the salsa based on the song.
Robert and Patti the jive. feel real bad for her.
Chris has the V. Waltz and Riker has the samba.
I agree ananya I listened to robert song and it is definitely a jive song
Wonder if TPTB are over their love affair with Patti and things will start getting real for her next week. Jive for her, I have to imagine, is going to be a killer. She’ll sell it of course but it will probably be pretty painful for her.
Where the hell are the stupid spoilers are Just Jared? Not seeing them…
I’ve just seen them posted all over Twitter and Tumblr but there is no link to where the info came from.
Ok, found it – good grief, that website is not the most easy to navigate…
Hope Robert can rebound after this week; but jive footwork can be just as fast as quickstep.
Interesting that viennese waltz & rumba are on for spring break week; thought it would be mostly faster, lighter and more “fun” numbers.
They gave Patti the jive on top of group dance? I don’t know how this week is going to go for her. That’s going to be rough with her knee.
I think Robert will do pretty well with this Soapview, he just started off on the wrong foot last week and that sunk him. He has the spring to put some bounce into it, and Kym being the pro that she is knows she needs to put out a really good dance this week, so she will work on it.
I feel really really bad for Patti this week, with the Jive on top of the group dance with her knee injury. Its going to be a rough week for her.
I love Missy Elliot. She’s A B***h and Get Ur Freak On are some of my favorite rap songs, but I just can’t see a Samba to Work It. I can see me dancing to it in my kitchen while making dinner, but not on the show.
And it’s not really a song that screams “Spring Break!” to me.
I always wanted to see Tequila used on the show. However, I was thinking more of a Cha Cha than a Salsa.
Let us hope that Mark doesn’t decide to go full on Pee Wee Herman and recreate the biker bar scene to that song from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.
Yikes! At first blush and not knowing the particulars, it looks like they are ready for Patti and Willow to go. I think Robert will be fine. He just started wrong last week.
Why is it necessary to give a 70 year old with knee problems a jive? It’s not like everyone does every standard dance anymore. Oh well, it will probably have about the same amount of content as we’ve seen so far from her, and probably be just as amazingly entertaining.
We heard straight from Sharna today on All Access that there will be no elimination week 6, and votes and scores will carry over to week 7 with a double later on in the season. It’s good for someone like Robert who has a chance to make up the 3pt score difference
I actually feel bad for Patti for getting the Jive. Poor woman’s got a knee problem and she has to bounce around in the Jive. On top of that she has to learn another dance. Wow… Nice one DWTS. I expect thag Jive is gonna be sluggish and just all around… bad; regardless of how well she performs it.
@Susan2 This song was used for Romeo Miller and Chelsie Hightower’s Instant Salsa back on Season 12. They did pretty good with it so I think it’ll work well for a Salsa.
Just found it kinda funny how they give a song named “Tequila” to the only one on the cast who probably has never had a sip of that in her life. Hehehe. I think Willow will do fine with the Salsa. Her ChaCha wasn’t great but I blame that on nerves and the fact she went first. I have a feeling she’ll loosen up more for the latin. At least I hope so.
I hope Robert can redeem himself with thr Jive but for some reason I worry this might not be the best dance for him to come back strong with. I would love to be wrong though.
As for Riker’s song… I love it! I can see it for a Samba, though it would probably be a verrrry slow one. I also like Noah’s song, but I like the remix more. The original version is kinda boring.
Chris’ song is… okay. I can see why they would think it was Spring Break-y but I’m not a fan of it. I also don’t see this dance being his forté.
Devil’s advocate here 😉 I just can’t really muster up any sympathy for Patti having the jive, because I really feel that she should have withdrawn weeks ago…her knee is in bad shape, she has barely moved these past few weeks…it’s hard for me to get mad at TPTB for giving her jive when it’s kind of her own fault that she’s even still there to go at it with a bum knee. Cloris did jive; Gladys did jive; Tommy did jive – and all are around Patti’s age or older. Sorry, Patti – you were gonna have to do it sooner or later, if you stuck around long enough.
Courtney, don’t forget Patti has a guaranteed two more weeks because of the no elimination on Monday with two dances each. You are right, it has reached that point
That is indeed a very good point Courtney… Leads me to wonder if who knows, maybe Patti will just give up and find the Jive way too hard to do and just withdraw right there and then — which would work nicely since there wouldn’t really be an elimination that week, and then the next week only Chris can go home.
By the way, I had no idea Cloris Leachman had done the Jive (didn’t watch the older seasons) and so I looked it up. Oh my God, best decision I have made all week. That was one of the most outrageous dances I have seen in a long time. LOL. It was such a perfect trainwreck; terrible dancing but funny as hell. I just lost it when Corky took her wig off and threw it. I needed this laugh today.
That’s why Patti’s so endearing. Not only is she not a quitter she also won’t accept any sympathy. As she said on Monday night, Noah has 1 leg. While she still feels like she can go on then that’s fine by me. Compare her reaction to being called safe on Monday to Chris’ reaction. They may be similar in dance ability but are at the opposite end of the spectrum for attitude. She quite rightly shouldn’t last any longer than week 7 but she deserves to outlast Chris.
I tell you what even Riker’s starting to grow on me now. He was probably my least favourite star before the series. Amazing how your opinions on them change after a good week or performance. I hope Mark scales the production down this week and Robert gets back on the horse. The worst thing that can happen to Robert and Kym is letting the scores get to them in training this week, leading to them trying to hard in practice and generating a negative VT.
Sorry CC NY, I forgot about their Salsa. I’ve have twenty seasons worth of dances to keep straight in my head. Sometimes some fall out.
The costume designers are helping Val and Rumer on DWTS All Access right now. It’s fascinating.
“Bootylicious” always seemed like a samba song to me, but Rumer already danced it. I think this is the first time I’ve ever been excited to see Rumer’s dance.
CCNY #82, I also found it funny too that they gave a song about tequila to the only person in the competition who isn’t even old enough to drink it. 🙂 I think the song is really cute & I hope Mark can choreograph a similar routine he did for Shawn’s Salsa in S8, which I thought was cute, fun & age-appropriate.
I’m a little worried for Riker & Allison having Samba. Even though I thought their Pirate Paso was awesome, I think Allison’s lack of ballroom/latin dancing is going to be their Achilles heel. I remember Jonathan & Allison’s Samba from last season & not only did I think Jonathan danced that dance poorly, but I also thought Allison did too. I wonder if this is going to be a pattern for them: some dances they do great (Salsa, Paso) & others they don’t (Tango) – all depending on Allison’s ability as pro to teach the proper technique to Riker.
I’m hoping for something like this to happen again (although with a more sane couple this time). Meryl & Maks did have Tango Week 6 and got a perfect score… from their meh samba. I do hope Nastia & Derek get something like that from their Jazz to Tango.
Allison’s really stepped up her game with the Paso, I just hope she doesn’t screw it up like she did with the Tango. The costuming was very very well done with the pair last Monday too, so I do hope for not a completely irrelevant one like the red Tango ones.
@Jane #90 – I definitely agree with you regarding Allison’s ability to create some good dances sometimes, and other times, they’re not so good. Though she’s not nearly as experienced as the others, she has knowledge on some dance styles. I don’t know if she really went to workshops like she said last season, or she’s getting choreo help behind the scenes and they don’t show it in the package. I hope she doesn’t make the Samba with Riker too hip-hop, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she does considering the song they have. I remember her Samba with Jonathan last year, because it was EXTREMELY obvious that she was struggling with it as well.
I even think her Paso was not that great. She didn’t look as refined as the other female dancers. So while I do acknowledge that some of her dances are good and powerful, some of the orher ones look hectic, choppy, and you can tell she has lack of experience in ballroom.
Mark did say on Afterbuzz that Allison choreographed their salsa all by herself – I don’t know if that’s always the case, but he made a point to say how impressed he was with that routine.
I’m torn on Allison’s technique. I love her dance style and how much power she brings – it’s decidedly less “traditional” feminine, but I don’t think it’s “testorone-y” either, as CAI claimed, but rather it eminates differently from her than all the other dancers. BUT, her technique is so sloppy, and I don’t know how much of what makes her dancing awesome would be lost if she adhered more strictly to the covenants of ballroom. But I think, and hope, there’s a way for her to retain her power and style while cleaning up her lines according to traditional standards.
By contrast, Lacey also had terrible ballroom technique but I don’t think that was due to her “style” but a lack of experience. Don’t get me wrong – I liked a lot of her routines for their choreography, but I definitely think she would have been well-served to refine her technique.
Hope no one’s snacking while reading, ’cause I threw up in my mouth a bit when I saw Witney & Chris’ song title. What an oxymoron that is! Feel so sorry for Witney.
#40 Courney: OTH Rumer looks sick to her stomach in her TEAM pic.
I hope KYM reviews the opening from last week and how Robert’s misstep was the excuse to sink their dance. Robert is great. He is what the show can be about. He needs to reign in some of that endearing enthusiasm and get those feet firmly on the ground, and his head in the game if for no other reason than to make the judges apologize (numerically) for last week’s scores!
And yep Courtney, I think you are dead on about Jivin’ Patti. I think Chris boy had hoped he could play the withdraw card last week, but alas….
Wonder if we will ever see the DWTS dance floor again sans production numbers?
Thought I’d add some mystery to the post! Sharna said on the live stream today there would not be an elimination on Monday but George is hearing directly from the network that there will be one. Somebody is not telling someone the right information at all! Who is wrong? And why hasn’t the person with the incorrect info been told.
Hi everyone! I have a question…is this season going to be 10 weeks or 11?
@CC: George tweeted a second time showing that the ABC press release said that one couple will be eliminated.
Hmmm…looks like no one told the dancers about their being an elimination. Almost makes me wonder if once the show tallied up the results from this week and saw it was someone they want to get rid of they decided to do the elimination after all. Or maybe Chris or Patti have decided to withdraw…I don’t know, just throwing out options. Does make me worried for Robert.
@Cali – I don’t think they’ve announced the finale date yet but the Spring season is usually only 10 weeks because of Memorial Day. If that remains true then the finale would be May 18 and 19.
Interesting theory about them doing the elimination because it’s someone they want to get rid of. I could be wrong, but I could see Chris withdrawing due to pain before Patti.
Now I’m concerned for Robert again. Surely he has developed a larger fan base than Chris. It’s just Chris keeps showing up like a bad penny every week.
How many points was Robert down? 3? I sometimes think the judges do a contestant a favor by low-balling them and putting them in the bottom – it elicits more “panic” votes than someone who seems to be “safer”. Based on how I’m feeling about it right now, I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that Robert doesn’t have enough votes to surpass Chris – but I’ll wait to see PH’s numbers post to say so definitively.
@Fig – very true. I know I threw Robert some votes this week when normally I don’t. He’s not my favorite but I at least want him there longer than Chris.
I almost think production might want Robert gone…like he’s almost too well liked or something and could potentially mess up the top 4 they basically keep advertising. Yeah he’s down 3pts from Patti and Chris which makes zero sense. He scored 4 pts less then Suzanne too which makes even less sense
Allison and Samba make me scared… But so did Paso and it turned out really good. But Samba is so much more difficult… we’ll see.
I really hope there is an elimination. I understand not having an elimination for switch up but if there will be no switch up then no need for that. I hate double eliminations. Let’s hope George is right.
Can’t wait for team dances! 🙂
I hope they don’t want Robert gone. And, I hope he has a huge fan base. My dream final 4 would be in no particular order Robert, Riker, Willow, and Nastia. I’d probably be satisfied with any of them winning.
I know people rave about Rumer, but her dancing really just bores me. And, I know there is no way she won’t be in the final 3 so I’ll just have to live with it.
#TeamRallison dancing the samba makes me scared as well. Allison and Jonathan’s samba last season was not really good but she has improved so much this season and been partnered with a celeb that has good dancing skills and can match her energy. I hope they do well on Monday. They’re my favorite this season.
Wow–giving Robert Jive right after Quickstep!? It sounds like TPTB want him gone. I was hoping for a dance style that he could make a good recovery with, and Jive is a tough one to rebound on.
Really looking forward to Willow’s Salsa, Noah’s Rumba, Riker’s Samba and Nastia’s Tango.
It’s annoying, but I’ll probably miss Monday night’s show because I’ll be out of town. Oh well, considering the lame theme–Spring Break week just doesn’t do it for me–and some of the song choices, this might not be such a bad night to watch after-the-fact.
What do y’all think of the work it for samba in general? I cannot picture it, but maybe that’s because I grew up with it in a very non-samba way. Lol.
And a non-spring break way at that!
Tequila for a 14 year old??? What were they thinking? It should be a fun dance though. Patti will have a tough time with the jive as will Robert. I wish they would seriously STOP with the theme nights already!! Enough is enough. Get to some real dancing. Team dances should be fun.
For some reason I didn’t find this site before this season… yeah I know… how did I manage that? But now I keep coming back, it’s wonderful!
Really hope that Robert will do well on the jive, not the easiest one to have a comeback with. And I agree with many of you, a lot of these songs are not what I associate with spring break!
Excited to see, really, how ever does with these styles and songs next week. I was afraid Rumer & Val’s Jazz would be kind of hip-hop-y considering the song, but based on yesterday’s livestream, there looked to be a lot of classical, regular jazz in there.
Also eager to see how Willow & Mark do with salsa.
Robert and Kym I think Robert will be fine. I think it was a one time thing. Everyone messes up. He is such a hard worker and loves it and Kym is such a great teacher/choreographer.
Riker/Allison As long as Allison doesn’t over power him and just lets him dance, they should be fine.
Willow/Mark I’m nervous about this not because Willow can’t do it, but because it is TEQUILA, and it screams fun, campy and over the top. Heck, I’d make it campy and over the top. Mark won’t be able to resist. Who knows what he will have them do. Someone here mentioned Pee wee’s biker bar scene. Will mark be able to resist?
Patti/Artem Patti is such a wonderful and classy performer. I’m sure this will be funky and fun. There probably won’t be much dancing, but it will be entertaining.
Chris/Witney I think I’ll wait to see what everyone says before watching this. If I’m home I’ll switch the channel or go to another room. This might be too painful to watch, but I hope not.
Artem and Patti just said during their live rehearsal that they are doing quickstep. Definitely what they are rehearsing too!
Somebody’s pulling strings, then – because Deep Throat said that there was DEFINITELY supposed to be 2 jives this coming week. Sounds like they’re still trying to find ways for Patti to not move and still stick around.
And to add on what to Juliana said, apparently Artem was getting frustrated because he wasn’t liking the Jive he had come up with that much. He tried it out as a Quickstep and it turned out to be way better. I gotta say, Miss Patti looked pretty good doing the QS. If anything I think she just needs to work on her frame, but her footwork wasn’t looking all that bad. And she did one jump that, for someone of her age with a bad knee, was pretty darn impressive.
@CC NY I agree Patti looked pretty good. Hope she can keep pace with the music. Artem said that the change to QS was done on Tuesday.
i think the no-elimination this week may be because there won’t be enough time for it what with the team dances AND 8 individual dances and packages
I doubt that Linde, they got through 12 dances and an elimination fine back in week 2. They’ll probably just call one team (most likely team trouble) in jeopardy before/after they dance and do the elimination straight after their dance.
Spring break is such a lame theme, can’t we stop having all these ridiculous theme nights? I mean, Latin and Disney are both cool but usually can’t stand the others. :/
Anyway, I’m glad to see Patti’s switched from Jive to QS, but then again I like the QS more than the Jive in general. I have a feeling the V. Waltz was only included because it would be an easier dance for Chris to handle as opposed to some of the other choices because obviously V. Waltz doesn’t scream ‘Spring Break’. Robert gets Jive? Hm, I’m a touch worried about that, but I think he’ll pull it off. Rumer gets Jazz? They’re definitely setting her up to be the first perfect score of the season… No comment on everyone else aside from ‘I can’t wait to see their dances!’
The switch to quickstep annoys me. That song is a horrible quickstep song. For a ballroom dance it’s a good foxtrot but she did that in week one. Side note: I love that song though…..becuase of sister act lol.
Didn’t ABC confirm there’d be an elimination next week after Sharna said there wasn’t gonna be one?
Please don’t do anything crazy this week, Mark. I really want to see a simple salsa, not a fake beach with a bar and the crabs in the background.
And does Rumer have to go for the sexy look even during Spring Break Week? Why couldn’t she just have FUN and be goofy for once?
I put extra thought into these this week but here are my score predictions:
Rumer and Val: This has the potential to be either really good or a complete mess in my opinion. Not a jazz expert but I’m hoping Val doesn’t intense this one up in some way or make overly sexy. My guess on scores is (9,9,9,9)
Nastia and Derek: This sounds like a perfect score dance. (10,10,10,10)
Riker and Allison: Another one that could go either way but I think it will be better than Allison’s last one for sure. (9,9,9,9)
Robert and Kym: Yeah….I’m super psyched for this one. (8,8,8,8)
Willow and Mark: Super psyched for this one too. (9,9,9,9)
Chris and Whitney: This should be a decent dance for him (7,7,7,7)
Noah and Sharna: This should be interesting. (8,8,8,8)
Patti and Artem: This should be fun but this dance and her injury….not sure what to expect. My guess (7,7,7,7).
Team YOLO: 10,9,9,10
Team Trouble: 9,9,9,10
I’ll play this week too, I think we might see perfect scores finally
Rumer and Val: (10,10.10,10) I just have a feeling this is the couple they are saving the first perfect score for and as a performer Rumer will probably have the most experience in this style. I just don’t know if Len will like a dance to that song
Nastia and Derek: Looked In practice like a perfect score dance but Len may try to find something, chemistry? Lol (10,10,10,10)
Riker and Allison. (9,9,9,9) I think this could be either really good or pretty frantic and the scores will reflect it
Robert and Kym: If Robert stays on time I think he will do great with this as I have no doubt he’s been working hard to call it a comeback week (9,9,9,9)
Willow and Mark: I see a lot of lifts and tricks coming (9,9,9,9)
Chris and Witney: Will he be smooth at all? As Bruno said during his AT he can’t look like a fridge especially with the VW (7,7,7,7)
Noah and Sharna: I’m honestly not sure about this one Rumba is tough enough for the guys already and Noah and Sharna usually rely on great lifts but can’t here (7,8,8,7)
Patti and Artem: Her injury worries me, and I don’t know if she’ll be able to maintain frame (7,7,7,7).
Team YOLO: 10,9,9,10
Team Trouble: 9,9,9,9
The contrast between today’s team photos
AS I was saying … The contrast between the photos is quite startling. Team YOLO has smiles and beach balls. Team Trouble is grim and wearing black. Seems like the team has been sucked into the hard-edged vortex that is Valenrue. I don’t imagine they really DO spring break. No good edges in sand.
Suzy Kym just put up a great picture on instagram, they are using the same Team Trouble sunglasses/dramatic look but they are all carrying towels, and surfboards. Its so ridiculous its fantastic! They have really embraced the theme and I am excited to see what they do!
Juat saw it. Great spring break swag! The other looks more like “This is the winter of our discontent” swag.
Just have to say, if Derek changed a song, which I am pretty sure he has…..nobody would roll their eyes then. He would be praised for his creativity. I am so sorry, but I had to get that off my chest. Love your site, and always look forward to reading. 🙂
I honestly was SO looking forward to Riker’s Samba. It was probably one of my favorites going into monday night based oj the song alone. Now he goes ahead and changes it. Boooo. I really do not like that Jason Derulo song.
I’ll play the guessing game too..
Riker & Allison : 36 (9,9,9,9)
Nastia & Derek : 39 (10,9,10,10)
Rumer & Val : 39 (10,9,10,10)
Noah & Sharna : 29 (7,7,8,7)
Robert & Kym : 32 (8,8,8,8)
Chris & Witney : 27 (7,6,7,7)
Willow & Mark : 35 (9,8,9,9)
Patti & Artem : 28 (7,7,7,7)
Team YOLO: 37 (9,9,9,10)
Team Trouble : 36 (9,9,9,9)
Way to miss the point, lora, in your haste to defend Riker. The point was that it’s out of control, people changing shit left and right, every week. Of course Derek has changed a song. But he’s also sucked it up MANY times and created magic. As recently as last week.
Gee, so happy you got something irrelevant off your chest.
Fantastic?? What is fantastic about Rumer going for the exact same theme she had the first five weeks in the competition? Fantastic would be to see her be silly, goofy and fun – but I think those aspects of her personality are in her imagination.
PH what Rachel was saying was that it was fantastic that Team Yolo took the dramatic shades concept from team trouble’s team photo and made it their own by adding beach gear. They are staying true to theme in everything they do
Ugh I was looking forward to the missy Elliot song. Jason Derulo not so much. Can’t really picture a samba to that.
I for one don’t see Robert nailing the Jive, but I never expected him to rock his first week dance either so I could always be wrong. Hopefully he’ll last long enough to do AT and Paso.
I just got through Mark and Willow’s Instagram that they will be doing a Whiplash tribute. I haven’t watched the movie but as far as I know there is nothing very Spring Breaky about it. I really hope it isn’t over the top, or their performances will start to annoy people the same way Rumer’s sexy and intense theme is doing.
Bootylicious can be made fun, if only Val and TPTB allow it.
@Anushka I haven’t seen the movie either but I do know it’s about a drummer. My guess is either Mark or Willow (or both) are just gonna pretend to play the drums at some point during their dance. I think that’ll be cool. I don’t really think they have much of a production to do if they are using that movie as inspiration for their dance. So for once I don’t think Mark will be wearing a crazy outfit or doing some crazy, out-there dance. I won’t be too surprised if I’m wrong though. Lol 😛 I do agree though, that I fail to find the “Spring Break”-ness in their inspiration for the dance.
Judging by Val’d explanation of what the concept of his dance is about (he explained during his livestream) he is gonna be some sort of “nerdy, preppy school boy” and Rumer is gonna be some hot, sexy woman. So yet again, a side of Rumer that we have gotten pretty much every week. If only she could be the nerdy girl instead. Oh Val… :/
“Nerdy, preppy schoolboy meets hot, sexy woman” huh? Why am I having flashbacks to Derek and Jennifer.
I saw a picture of TeamTrouble’s dance and they were sitting at desks. Reminds me of the the dance during the all star season to Call Me Maybe.
@CC NY To be honest, I fail to find Spring Break-ness in most of the songs! Nastia and Derek’s song is called SUMMER for God’s sake! But I’m not worrying about them too much, they’ll nail it like they always do! On the other hand, I feel like Rumer is Janel 2.0, minus the showmance.
I think this is what they’re trying to do –
Rumer is this season’s Alfonso, she got the best opening night scores, is a great dancer and continues to be among the top 4 and Riker is this season’s Sadie, he was second on the opening night leaderboard and gives great performances but gets some or the other criticism yet stays in the top 4.
Nastia and Willow are Janel and Bethany, they get great scores, are praised a lot but I have a feeling are not going to win. Which sucks, because these two are my favourites. 🙁
Val seems to have NO Ability to think outside of the box he’s put Rumer in. None at all. He had TWO chances to break out of the box with Disney week and he blew it.
Good thing it’s “his season” and the judges are doing their best for him. I can’t imagine the nasty Derek would have gotten if he had choreographed some of Val’s dances. Oh wait, yes I can – because it’s happened several times.
Willow might be Janel/Bethany, but I don’t quite see that in Nastia. She’s an olympian. Bethany’s problem was that her huge fanbase was all children – and we know they don’t typically vote. Riker and Willow are more likely to have that problem than Nastia. For that matter, the comparison doesn’t work with Rumer either. Alfonso wasn’t just a good dancer – he was an iconic TV Star with a huge fanbase. That is NOT Rumer.
While Nastia could very well not make the top 3, it won’t be because she’s like Janel or Bethany. It’s much more likely to be that the Judges have an agenda and/or Derek and Nastia’s schedule finally gets to them. And that would be the same reason that Rumer could win.
It’s not cut and dried at all. The Meryl wasn’t the first person pimped to win…she’s just the most recent success story of pimpage to win. There have been many failures. And there is a long way to go (and too many good dancers) before you can call Rumer a sure thing. I’m usually pretty good at picking the winner and I just can’t this season.
@Princess Heidi I agree about the fanbase part, I didn’t know anything about Rumer except that she was Bruce and Demi’s daughter. And that’s not enough to get people voting, I sometimes feel Noah might make the final four as he has a has a bigger fanbase than her.
What do you mean, Derek choreographing Val’s dances? I only started watching since the last season and even then I just watched the top 4 on YouTube because I don’t get ABC in my country.
I mean that every time Derek has lacked content in a dance (in dances that had more content than Val’s have had) he’s gotten reamed for it, at least by Len. And sometimes with far worse consequences than anything that has ever happened to other pros. We’re talking 6’s and 7’s here. But Val can do a non-waltz and get his ass kissed, and get a nearly perfect score for a non-Samba.
@Princess Heidi Yeah I’ve noticed that. Even in the first week, Derek’s Foxtrot had better choreography and Nastia danced better than Rumer in my opinion but it was Val who got the “This season belongs to you” comment. And people say the judges favour Derek. -_-
I don’t know, but i strongly feel Noah is going to win the MB.
If there is a JK simmons impression at the beginning of the Whiplash inspired dance, I will die. That would be hysterical. Sidenote, had no clue who JK Simmons was before that movie but apparently he is also the yellow M&M. Who woulda thought.
I said before the season even started that I sense a replay of season 16 with a similar result. Then it was Kellie and Zendaya. This time it’s Nastia and Rumer. I think Derek’s voting fan base has increased because of NYSS exposure. Houghkin’s bi-coastal schedule has also attracted some attention, and there’s always Nastia’s professor telling students to vote for her! I think Valenrue’s lack of versatility is quite obvious to all except their most ardent/ most loony fans. As for their freestyle, sight unseen there is no way that Val can touch what Derek will come up with for Nastia. On a different note entirely, I see Nastia as Shawn’s revenge. Hard to say which was more shameful, Melissa and Tony’s “win” or Meryl and Maks’s “win.” In any event, no need to worry about Rumer — for sure she’ll be in the next production of Sway. Those folks have shown no hesitation in chasing any ambulance that might sell tickets — if Amy and her prostheses made the cut, certainly Rumer’s Hollywood pedigree will as well.
Plus, since the winner will be announced on my birthday, I think it’s only fair that my team wins!!! At least that’s how the Tooth Fairy told me it works …
Rumer is part of Baz Luhrman’s stage show and has experience doing aerial work. Pretty sure that will come into her freestyle. Of course when Amy did it, unnecessary according to Len and not dancing to their fans. But I am sure it will be amazing and Val’s turn and earned it gushing when she does it. I think she can bring a good freestyle bc of that experience.
When Amy did her aerial freestyle, for me it was an “actual metaphor” (oxymoron intended). Remember, the instructor said she could learn in about 2 weeks; Derek said they had a half hour. Those are the things that made it so special. Rumer would just be putting her ringer-ness on display.
#148 & #149 – I’ve wondered about that same thing – if suddenly Rumer’s aerial work (if they use it for her freestyle) will be amazing and gush-worthy, while Len docked Amy a point for it despite the fact that it was totally a part of their story, the song, and pretty all around amazeballs.
True Suzy but the show is downplaying Rumer’s background. Somehow only Nastia is held to a higher standard
I am so glad I’m not the only one who thinks Shawn should’ve won the all star season!
Mandi the vast majority of the posters here (not all) wanted Shawn to win all-stars. But as varied and welcoming to all that this site is, it does skew towards a certain type of fan – one that doesn’t buy into most of the storylines that TPTB, judges, or media puts out there, a healthy amount of Derek fans, a high expectation of choreography quality, and not a lot of that “let the person win who hasn’t won before” mentality.
Oh and not to say that this is a Derek-fan site at all – everyone has their own favorites and I won’t speak for anyone specifically, just generally a lot of people here find kindred spirits and a refuge from the internet-Derek hate.
Myself, I am a fan of a lot of the pros without one absolute favorite. I go season-by-season, partnership-by-partnership. But in general, I tend to like Derek, Mark, Karina, Sharna, and Kym the most – and high hopes for Sasha to rejoin the pros.
To be fair, if Rumer’s aieral work giveS her an unfair advantage, then Nastia’s gymnastic skills give her one as well. Face it, both these ladies bring their own special talents to their dances (not to mention Riker’s “secret” ballroom experience). If you fault one, then you have to fault the other. I don’t think Len docking Amy one point kept her from the MB.
I like them both, but so far neither one of them have given me a “wow” moment.
Except, Jill L, for the fact that Nastia’s experience is totally out in the open. Few if any don’t know that she was a Olympic Gold Medalist in gymnastics in Beijing. I had no idea that Rumer had aerial skills until it was mentioned here. Similar to the “secret” ballroom experience you didn’t want to mention. If you feel that way about that, you can imagine I feel the same way about this.
Furthermore, your the comparison would hold only if Derek had Nastia walking on a balance beam in their freestyle, doing something she’s trained in and has performed. Sorry, for me the argument doesn’t hold.
@Suzy idk if I would equate nastia’s gymnastic experience and rumer’s Aerial work. Nastia has trained her entire life in gymnastics at the Olympic level, so of course it’s more out there, as it should be.
As far as I know Rumer has been taking classes in aerials for the past year and a half or so. I would equate it more to Amber Riley’s ‘hidden’ stepping experience that few knew about until the finale.
I’m not even worried about the “perception” of ringer-level anymore, because it’s obvious that TPTB try to downplay it for all of the celebs unless their experience is already known. My whole potential beef is that if Len raves over ariel work when he previously docked Amy for it? Bogus. But I won’t get worked up over something that hasn’t happened yet.
#eliza the fact that Nastia has trained in gymnastics for so many years is not necessarily a total positive. The gymnasts themselves say there are many “good” gymnastic habits that are “bad” dancing habits and need to be broken. The judges’ initial critiques of Nastia were of some gymnastic habits that had no place in dance.
And again, Amber’s stepping is something she hadn’t done since high school. To me that’s an entirely different situation than something that is currently being performed. It will be interesting to see (if there are aerials in her freestyle) if Rumer’s experience with it is revealed as forthcomingly as Amber’s was. My guess would be no.
Even if Rumer does some type of aerial work in her Freestyle, I’m still not going to be excited to see it. In my opinion, all of Rumer & Val’s dances have been similar, meaning she plays the same type of character (dark, intense, cool, edgy). I’m almost expecting her Freestyle to have the same vibe as her Foxtrot & Waltz.
Suzy – how is it I didn’t want to mention Riker’s ballroom experience? I think, in fact, I did mention it. My point was that celebs prior experience is not often volunteered. Just curious…..would it bother you if Rumer had a different pro?
Personally her 1 1/2 years in aerial work doesn’t hold up against a lifetime of gymnastics and a gold medal. Neither does Riker’s experiences. Nastia dances better than both of them.
And, suzy, like much of what Val is doing these days, it would be derivative. I wonder if he can think of something NEW?
Sure, Jill – but somehow Nastia will get called out and Rumer won’t. THAT’s the issue – of course, people like to make it about something else. Cuz it’s easy.
And everything Suzy said, of course.
There is no comparison between Amber and rumer for the reasons stated. Very recent training versus something you did for fun in high school. But, any port in a storm, I guess.
Er, you seriously don’t think Riker competing in BALLROOM doesn’t hold up against Nastia’s *gymnastics*, Jill??? The “Nastia dances better than both of them” doesn’t hold water AT ALL. She dances better because she dances better and she has Derek, not because gymnastics gives her a leg up over a ballroom trained singer. That’s nonsense. There are MANY examples of dancers with no training at all dancing as well or better than trained dancers – the most recent being Kellie Pickler.
As for Rumer, her training is questionable – yet she dances better than Riker who has ballroom training. By your logic, Riker should absolutely dance better than her…yet he doesn’t.
Jill L I was referring to this: “(not to mention Riker’s “secret” ballroom experience)” quote from your post. To me this is you saying you were not mentioning it. If you were mentioning it I would imagine you wouldn’t put it in parentheses and say you were not mentioning it. Now you say you did mention it, but that’s not what you originally said. Regardless, what (at least I think) you said is that experience is not always volunteered, and I agree, and just as I’m not thrilled that Riker is not admitting to his, I’m not thrilled that Rumer is not admitting to hers. I’m much more bothered by their not admitting it than I am about the actual experience they’ve had. Not a good look. As for whether I would mind if were a different pro, can’t say — but it is a puzzlement that so many of those who don’t cop to their experience wind up partnered with Val.
Suzy – the English language expression “not to mention” is a way of stating another example of what is being discussed. It is not a literal expression, rather it is a figure of speech.
But derivative seems to be what some of those other boys do, Derek and Mark go outside the box and shock the delicate stuffy senses of head judge and get slammed with harsh comments (if you get sent home thank Derek and Mark) and low scores, then a season or 2 later Val does it and everyone wets themselves with excitement about his creative choreography.
Isn’t that how it is in life in general, trailblazers get a lot of backlash and then at some point it becomes cool.
If Rumer does aerial work in her freestyle, Len better dock a point from her like he did with Amy. I doubt it though as Shawn’s samba got a 7, while Janel’s very similar salsa got a 9 from Len
Just catching up and I have started thinking ahead to the finals as I like to try and figure out what each pro will do with their celeb for the freestyle and I think Val will 100% have Rumer doing aerial work because, honestly…what else could they do? We’ve basically already seen two contemporary routines from them (foxtrot and waltz), she continues to do sexy/sassy numbers, will get intense whenever she does the paso or AT…aerial work is really the only “hidden” talent she has.
I do question her fan base BUT there have been plenty of celebs that come into the competition without large fan bases and go pretty far if they are able to appeal to the general audience. An established fan base will get you through the first few weeks but you need the general audience on your side to make it to the finals and win. From the chatter I’ve seen online I do think she’s liked well enough but not to any extremes like say a Meryl type. She and Val have gotten great edits so far though so I think the producers are doing everything in their power to make her as likable as possible. I still say she’s my pick to win at the moment but at the same time I wouldn’t be necessarily surprised if someone swoops in at the last minute and takes it (whether it be Nastia, Willow, Riker, or even Noah).
I love the celebs that are coming back except for Meryl and Maks so I will just skip that part when I watch it. So tired of that pair..
PH, what I meant was that regardless of Riker’s experience, Nastia dances better. Oh you are absolutely right thst the choreo has a lot to do with it. I just feel that she is just more poised and graceful – she carries herself beautifully and I’m sorry but I think that her training helps with that. With Derek as the pro and Nastia’s athletic ability, they are, out of the three couples, better.
I have said in other posts that I don’t care for Allison’s style – to intense and jerky.. Maybe if Riker had a ballroom trained pro it would be different? Witney’ would have been good. I can’t see Rumer with anyone else but Val. Kinda wish they did switch up week now.
Nastia comes by her poise and grace genetically: father a gymnast, mother a rhythmic gymnast. Interesting to compare Nastia and Shawn. Presumably they both had similar training but it looked quite different on the two of them. Depends on their genetics.
Suzy the same question can be asked to people who supposedly don’t care about Riker’s and Rumer’s experience – would you care if they were dancing with another pro?? Odds are yes, they would care, but since it’s Val and Allison (in other words, not Derek) they don’t care.
I’m with you. I don’t care about the experience, I care about the non-disclosure and then the whining about Nastia’s gymnastics training as if it is somehow worse that Riker’s Ballroom or Rumer’s aerials, etc. It’s not worse, not even close – but in some people’s minds it is because she’s dancing with Derek and she’s doing well. It’s quite a ridiculous argument, actually – to the point that I don’t understand it. And I’m not sure why we’re having it.
Yes, Jess, and in this case “cool” is “derivative” 🙂
Yup, it sucks that they won’t disclose their experience – not that they have it. I’ve just given up hope that they are going to do so anymore. It seems that in the earlier seasons there was a lot more transparency about what kind of experience the person came to the show with. Now they want to operate under this illusion that they are all newbs unless their experience is so obvious (Nastia, Meryl, etc.) that they can’t.
Not to say that they were ever truly forthcoming – didn’t Mya TEACH dance or something? But there was at least an attempt to acknowledge. Now it’s all hush-hush and stupid.
