DWTS 12, Week 9 – Maksim Chmerkovskiy On How This Season Kept Changing And Changing & More

Maks has a new blog up at TV Guide. First he apologizes for not blogging, but, he’s been so busy getting Kirstie ready for all of their dances. He talks of everything from a “bittersweet” feeling over the 45 second Cha Cha lastnight to how far Kirstie has come to what the show is all about in a “life transformation”. He also talks of why he is so hard on his partners sometimes and much more. Here’s a take, but, don’t miss reading the full blog at the link. (I so hope these two make it tonight! Please please please!)

We’re not thinking ahead to the finals. We’re focused on the now. That’s all that I can ask for. Kirstie’s been a trooper. It’s been very difficult for her. This experience has been something she’s probably never going to forget. It’s definitely one of the hardest things she’s ever done, one of the most physically demanding things she’s ever done. She didn’t get a teacher who would back off if she were tired. I was pushing. Everybody walks out all the time, so what they showed in the package wasn’t any different from anyone else’s rehearsals. If anybody was a fly on the wall in our rehearsal studio, it’s like, “Oh, OK.” There’s always someone crying, someone taking a break in the hall. Call me mean, call me whatever you want to call me, but I try to get things done. My job is not to take it easy. My job is to come out with a finished product from my partner that’s worthy of accolades. I’m trying to give her a chance to prove herself.

Looking back, five years from now, when you may know me better or have figured me out, you’ll say “Hey, he’s actually a very nice guy.” I’ll be looking back and going, ‘When people were saying how difficult I am, I did what I had to do and got my partners to dance to the best of their ability in times when they didn’t think they could.” I never gave in. I’ve had packages that portrayed me in a derogatory way. But that hasn’t changed me or my teaching method at all. I’ve pursued a goal for my partner.

This season kept changing and changing — changes in attitude, body type, body shape. I think Kirstie is undergoing a life transformation. I’m really excited because that’s what the show’s all about. It has to be judged by dancing and I don’t want to be that guy who has Kirstie Alley and wants to depend on the vote. I don’t rely on it. I work out every day. I make her work for those votes. I make sure that she doesn’t get the pity vote. She doesn’t want the pity vote either. They love how far she’s come. I’m extremely proud of her accomplishments. I’m her biggest fan.

Making the finals would mean validation. It would mean validation for the effort that she put in. It was a very, very difficult season. We haven’t shown most of it. We didn’t want to be the clichéd older celebrity with difficult issues. We didn’t address the spasms or the injuries or the numbness. We just stayed true to what the show is and tried to be entertaining. If we bring a little bit of a smile onto a fan’s face, we’re good. If there’s one thing I would change, I would take back the fall and the shoe. In those cases, we didn’t give the fans what they asked for. That’s my thing. I’m a little hard-headed about these types of things. You can’t get perfection, but you can always try.

DWTS Season 12, Week 9 – Dancing by the (Bogus) Numbers

Well, I don’t know that there is much point to this post seeing as how the judges did their very best to make sure that Chelsea makes the finals and Ralph goes home. They went to extraordinarily nasty and ridiculous lengths to do it too. You know there is a problem when many Derek fans are now praying he doesn’t come back to the show – they’re outraged and he’s not even involved!!!

Ol’ Ralph must be getting some serious votes if they feel the need to take such drastic measures to make sure he goes home. You think he’s the weakest dancer?? SO WHAT?? The nature of this show has ALWAYS been equal parts judges scores and votes. That is no longer the case. If people don’t connect with you even though you are a good dancer and you go home? Tough CRAP. That’s the way it is – Lil’ Kim, Joanna, Jennie and a million more…all went home at least a week early. Them’s the breaks. The dancers have to foster a connection with the audience as well as they dance. The people have to like you well enough to vote for you…or at least not like someone else better. Tom Bergeron always says, “vote for your favorite”. People who watch and vote on this show have learned that if they want their favorite to stay, they have to vote like crazy, or what happened to Sabrina will happen to their favorite. But not this time. This time, if you vote for your favorite all night long it still might not matter because the judges have rigged it so that your votes have far less impact – and they don’t have the guts to call it a judges save. They tried and tried to string together a story of why it was necessary, and why this was a “good thing” – Yeah, tell that to Hines’ and Kirstie’s fans, in addition to Ralph’s fans. I’m sure they’ve very glad you took drastic measures to protect Chelsea. What will you do next week to make sure the best dancer (in your opinion) wins?? Do a winner takes all redemption dance where they are all dancing something different?? Why don’t you guys just be HONEST?

Anyway…

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Place Celebrity Score Percentage
1. Chelsea 73 31.06
2. Hines 60 25.53
3. Kirstie 54 22.98
4. Ralph 48 20.43

Anyone want to guess just how asinine the spread is between top and bottom?? I’ll give you a hint – 6 figures. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, the only way to enures that Chelsea Kane – a perfectly lovely girl, I’m sure – makes the finals is to put such a spread between her and Ralph that he needs more than 106 THOUSAND votes per million votes cast to stay over her. If not for that ridiculous spread, it is easy to invision her getting eliminated by the voting blocks of Kirstie, Hines and Ralph. We’ve seen it happen before where someone’s not connecting and they get sent home, despite being the better dancer. That’s always been the nature of the show. Anyway, besides and act of god, what does Ralph need to stay? He needs ONE of the following to happen:

– He needs 25,540 more votes per million votes cast than Kirstie, OR;
– He needs 51,100 more votes per million votes cast than Hines, OR;
– He needs 106,400 more votes per million votes cast than Chelsea.

Ugh. I am thoroughly disgusted. I can barely bring myself to type out this post. And I don’t want to hear any more whining about how Chelsea is the best dancer. If you haven’t figured out by now that that is beside the point, there is no hope for you. Just spare me the theatrics cause you know if the shoe was on the other foot you’d be screaming bloody murder. You’re probably the same bunch that was saying last season that it’s about the “most improved” dancer. Um hmmm….not so much this time around, eh?

Anyway, it is my humble opinion that Ralph’s AT was just as good as Kirstie’s Paso and that the two extra points she got were a bit much. Ralph may not be the best dancer – but the underscoring was SO transparent. As was the over scoring – 10’s on Hines second dance and the perfect 30 for Chelsea? In what universe was that a 30?? Oh, the universe of mediocre dancing. I forgot. But you know what? I can handle them underscoring Ralph – the judges have always been idiots. But the commentary used to deliver those ridiculous scores?? SHAMEFUL and pathetic and disgusting. As was the tongue bath they gave to everyone else. I don’t know when I’ve seen such an obvious display designed to sway the audience vote away from Ralph along with scoring to make it happen.

Let’s say that an act of God happens and Ralph gets the votes – what happens to Kirstie? Well, she needs to pass Hines or Chelsea so one of them goes home instead of her. What votes does that take?

– She needs 25,550 more votes per million votes cast than Hines, OR;
– She needs 81,000 more votes per million votes cast than Chelsea.

She might be able to do that. But probably not. After that whole video with Hines and Kym and him crying (and me right along with him), I fully expect to see him doing a freestyle next week. What would it take for the most shocking elimination ever to happen on this show (and they don’t ordinarily shock me at all)?? ALL of the following would have to happen for Chelsea to be eliminated:

– Ralph gets 106,400 more votes per million votes cast than she does, AND;
– Kirstie gets 81,000 more votes per million votes cast than she does, AND;
– Hines gets 51,100 more votes per million votes cast than Chelsea does.

Now, I can see Hines doing it. Maybe even Kirstie. But Ralph?? There might not even be that many people voting on this show. What is much more possible is that Ralph nudges Kirstie out the door. Is it likely? I doubt it – but it’s certainly not out of the question. Ralph only needs 25,540 more votes than Kirstie and that’s similar to what he got last week. Yeah, sure, that was over Romeo which is a different story – but this week, in their quest to humiliate and eliminate Ralph, it’s entirely possible that they went WAY too far. Let me ask you a question – what often happens when the judges are extremely harsh, kick people when they’re down?? Sympathy votes. If you’re already a popular guy and they’ve coated Chelsea in Teflon, what are your fans going to do? Vote like hell.

And, just like in regular elections, it’s very often the independents that swing the election one way or another. Gee – I wonder who the sympathetic votes are going? My guess: Ralph and Hines, for different, obvious reasons. So…where does that leave Kirstie??

Trouble?? Maybe yes, maybe no. Who can say at this point? I’m going to state the obvious and say we’ve seen the last of Ralph. I so look forward to the smug satisfaction from the Wonder Trio. NOT. Maybe Ralph is far too classy for this show anyway. Now, I’m going to go buy some beer and start a mantra that goes something like “Please, Derek, don’t come back to this show…find another movie and keep your distance.” You deserve better. Hell, they all do.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 12, Week 9 – Reviews and Interviews After The Dance (Video Roundup)

Let’s get right to it! As always George Pennacchio from ABC KTLA gets deeper than your average interviewer and he did so again last night after the show. He asks our dancing couples individual questions for what they thought of their dances and challenges this week. Best of all, he asks them what they thought were their biggest accomplishments of the Season. See how they reply on it and more below.

First up, Mark and Chelsea say winning the “winner takes all” Cha Cha has been their biggest accomplishment this Season. They are gloriously happy with their scores and hoping they make it to the finals.

Hines and Kym talk of the “trying” week because of Kym’s injury. Hines didn’t know until Monday morning if Kym would be able to dance. Hines said he got sick to his stomach when they played the rehearsal video of the injury. He didn’t care about the scores last night and only that they were dancing again and she was ok. Hines said their biggest accomplishment was staying consistant all Season despite this past week’s injury.

Kirstie says her biggest accomplishment is “just doing it” (dancing) and come this far without being in more pain. Maks says there is a lot he didn’t tell her for how he was getting her in shape for everything. He believes “dancing” is the best thing to keep your body and soul in shape. It will help you get through anything. Maks also talks of why Kirstie deserves to be in the finals…because of the “impossibility” factor. It gets a little heated at the end about the “age” factor coming up, but, then they express how much they mean to each other.

Below Karina and Ralph talk of the judges comments and how much they hurt (don’t get me started. I thought Bruno was just at his most awful!). Karina talks of why Ralph deserves to be in the finals….because he’s a great dancer, dedicated, he’s worked hard, and they are having so much fun. George gives him the bravery award this season. See why below.

Here is Donny Osmond with his take on the show last night on Good Morning America. He talks of Kym’s injury and how Kym and Hines came back tough. He thinks they are the leaders. He says Chelsea is the best dancer. Kirstie has the popular vote. He thinks Ralph is going home tonight. He also tries to predict who will win next week if he’s right about his predictions tonight and can’t. “It’s a horse race!”

PopTvDotCom asked some of our couples some good questions after the show as well. You can see Shirley Ballas in this video as well.

Stayed tuned to this spot. I may add more videos later after work. Here’s to the results show tonight!!! Though I’m not looking forward for who will be set home.

Pure Dancing With The Stars 2011 – When Judges Have To Humiliate

I can’t sit back and let this go without letting off some steam. Maybe you need to do so as well?

I just can’t get over how mean the judges were to Ralph again last night. All Season they’ve been real bears to him as we’ve all commented. But, last night cut the cake with Bruno. To say Karina “was being to rough with her p***y” and then to furthermore say to Ralph, “You definitely went for a bad ass salsa. Are you wearing extra large diapers?” What the ???

If there was ever a time I wish they could penalize the judges, now is the time. What’s sad is these celebrities don’t take on this show to get humiliated and neither do the pros. Last year, Bruno did the same thing to Michael Bolton and several times. When is enough “enough” already?

I think it’s time Bruno was disciplined. Yes, feel free to have an opinion and critique a dance for how you see fit. But, please do NOT humiliate!! Have some class and be constructive about it!!

After last night, I wouldn’t be surprised if they ever get a celebrity to sign up again for this show.

You really have to give it to Ralph and Karina though. They didn’t argue and they took the abuse. All Karina said was “Wow wow” and tried to shield Ralph from what Bruno was saying.

If Ralph is picked to leave tonight, it’s going to be hard to watch him leave like this. He doesn’t deserve it!

(Heidi’s Note: No one deserves that kind of treatment, regardless of how well they danced. Obscene. And it takes a lot for me to see obscenity..)
