SPOILERS!!!! DWTS Season 12 – And the Winner IS…..

Well, gotta put some white space so that the auto tweeting doesn’t inadvertently spoil someone. 🙂

CONGRATULATIONS TO HINES AND KYM!!! The winners of Season 12 of DWTS!!

For those who were wondering, the three-way tie during tonight’s dances decreased the margin between Hines/Chelsea and Kirstie to 19,100 – a sufficient drop for Kirstie to catch Chelsea (I figured she would catch her at 29k), but not enough for her to catch Hines. Understandable when you see all the people in the viewing party in Pittsburgh.

Pure Dancing with the Stars 2011 Poll Results

As many long time readers know, we’ve had a pretty good track record of predicting the results of Dancing with the Stars using a poll on Pure DWTS. Turns out that we have a large enough readership that it generally does a good job of representing the viewership of the show (or at least the viewership that votes on DWTS).

We could go back to past seasons of DWTS, but even this season our poll predicting the DWTS 2011 final 3 was spot on (sorry Ralph fans).

We also posted a poll near the beginning of Dancing with the Stars season 12 to see who would win the mirror ball trophy. Here’s an image of the results:

I’d have to say that it’s pretty amazing how accurate it’s been. Chris ended up leaving before Kendra and Ralph left instead of Chelsea. Although, considering the 15 points extra that Chelsea got, I wonder if we would have been spot on with Ralph in the top 3 if DWTS hadn’t thrown that wrench in the process.

It’s also worth noting that the Pure DWTS readers predicted Hines and Kym to win it all really early on.

Vogue posted a poll about 5 days ago predicting who people wanted as the Dancing with the Stars 2011 winner of the final 3 and here are the results of that poll:

Based on those poll results, I think it’s quite clear that Hines and Kym have this mirror ball trophy in the bag. Plus, it looks reasonable for Kirstie to be in second place and pass up Chelsea. There you have it. Will the Pure DWTS readers polls predict the Dancing with the Stars season 12 winner? I’m feeling pretty good about this prediction.

DWTS Gifting by Anne Koplik – Oh Yes…Someone Won Some Free Earrings!

How many of you knew that at Dancing with the Stars they had a gifting area where gifts were given out to the stars and pros on Dancing with the Stars? I know I didn’t and I’ve been back stage at the finale before. That was gift enough for me.

Turns out that Anne Koplik Designs has a gifting suite at the Dancing with the Stars finale where they’re giving the stars some of their jewlery. Here are some pictures from the gifting suite that were on the Anne Koplik Designs Facebook page.

Similar to the DWTS gifting, we’ve been running a contest to giveaway some Anne Koplik jewelry (as seen on DWTS) as well. I’m happy to say that the winner is….check your email (or DM on Twitter) to see if you won.

Who thinks we should hold another jewelry giveaway?

DWTS Season 12, The Finale – Dancing by the Numbers

You know, this series is WAY easier when there are only three couples left. 🙂 Well, easier to write, not necessarily easier to predict.

Surprisingly, the judges didn’t really make it easier at all. With Hines and Chelsea tied, and Kirstie only 5 points back, it’s a horse race between Chelsea and Kirstie for second place. In my opinion. 🙂 You guys will be arguing for weeks over whether Kirstie was overscored, or underscored – same for Chelsea and Hines – but I actually didn’t have too much trouble with the scoring. I think Chelsea’s freestyle was over scored by 3 points or so – that just wasn’t good. Sorry, Kanenballers. Kirstie? I loved her freestyle just for what it was at this point in HER life. The woman is nearly FORTY years older than Chelsea. I would bet that 40 years is more than most of us here have in actual age. 🙂 Just amazing. And that’s one of the odd things about this show. You pit a 60 year old actress against a 23 year old actress and a 30-something athlete and you expect comparable dancing or fair?? Come on, now. It’s just not going to work. Surprisingly, the most “fair” finale I can remember is when it was Evan, Nicole and Erin – all about the same age and fitness level, and all three had experiences that benefited them going into the show.

Anyway, as I’ve said ad nauseum, I don’t have a problem with the judges ranking them – they’re entitled to do that, when they’re not on crack. They’ve ranked for the last two seasons now. Hell, they SHOULD rank the contestants – that’s like, their JOB. There is no way that all of them dance equally well. But that begs the question….how do you rank when the contestants are so vastly different?? Sure, Chelsea is (usually) technically better (don’t think that was true at all last night), but HINES is a true performer AND a decent dancer. He gets done dancing and I CLAP. I am entertained. Who’s to say that’s less important than technique? Besides Kanenballers. 🙂 I think at the end of the day, I probably would have done what they did, although perhaps I would have given Kirstie a couple tens – she’s 60 and she’s competing, after all. So, barring some over scoring of Chelsea and a bit of underscoring of Kirstie, I got no problems. Of course, I recognize also that with this group the over and under scoring probably won’t make a difference. I could be wrong. 🙂

At the close of Monday night’s show, this is where we ended up:

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Place Celebrity Score Percentage
1. Chelsea 59 34.3
2. Hines 59 34.3
3. Kirstie 54 31.4

As you can see, a 5 point judges score spread translates to a 2.91 percent spread. That in turn means what? Well, for Kirstie to take second over Chelsea, she needs 29,070 more votes per million votes cast – after these two dances, anyway. It’s difficult to say, but I think that’s doable. Right at this moment, in order to WIN, Kirstie needs that many more votes that BOTH Hines and Chelsea. Not impossible, I don’t think, but difficult to beat Hines. Hines, of course, only needs ONE more vote than Chelsea to win and he needs Kirstie not to get that 29k more than him. That’s how he wins. Right now. 🙂

But that’s not the end of the story. The one remaining question that seems to be rolling around out there is this: does the 3rd and final dance happen before or AFTER someone is eliminated?? No idea. If they ALL do their favorite dance and score them about the same as they did last night, it has virtually no impact. If they give Hines and Chelsea each a 30, and then give Kirstie a 27, they only increase the number of votes she needs to almost 31k – less than 2 thousand per one million votes. Chump change, actually. I’m thinking 2k votes for Kirstie isn’t that hard, but what about the initial 29k?? That is less clear. I think she can do it – she seems to have a tremendous amount of support. In order to win the show at that point, Kirstie would have to get that number of votes more that BOTH Hines and Chelsea.

What about Hines? Well, right now (and if he scores the same as Chelsea tonight), he only needs ONE more vote per million votes cast to beat Chelsea and take first place, provided that Kirstie doesn’t blow both of them out of the water.

What happens if the judges rank them like they have in the past? Well, let’s say they give Chelsea the 30, Hines a 28 and Kirstie a 26. That would mean that Kirstie needs the following to WIN:

– She would need about 35,200 more votes per million votes cast to beat Chelsea, AND;
– She would need about 27,400 more votes per million votes cast to beat Hines.

In the above scoring scenario, what does Hines need to WIN the show?? He needs BOTH of the following to happen:

– He would need about 7,900 more votes per million votes cast than Chelsea, AND;
– He needs for Kirstie to NOT get 27,400 more votes per million votes cast than him.

As you can see, we’re dealing in pretty big numbers here EXCEPT for what it takes for Hines to beat Chelsea or Chelsea to beat Hines. Could be ONE vote, could be 8k. If all three of them dance their favorite dance, and it shakes out similar to how it did last night, I see Hines winning. As for who will take 2nd and 3rd – I have NO idea. I am very tempted to say that Kirstie will beat Chelsea, but that is a good number of votes. By having fewer dances this season, they actually inflate the spread a bit – that nearly 30k is going to be tough. I will be really interested in the outcome, for sure.

Scenario number TWO is the one where they eliminate one of the couples (3rd place) and THEN have the remaining two dance their favorite dance. For the sake of argument, first we’ll hypothesize that Kirstie takes 3rd and doesn’t dance again. Let’s also say that they give Chelsea a 30 and Hines a 28. For Hines to WIN in this scenario he needs 8,700 more votes per million votes cast than Chelsea. See, eliminating Kirsties 26 points means a lower overall total which translates to a slightly bigger spread and more votes for Hines. But not a huge number by any stretch. I would be shocked if he doesn’t win in this scenario.

Frankly, I’ll be very shocked if Chelsea wins in any of these scenarios, but it’s always possible that we over estimate Hines’ fanbase and the Steeler Nation. I sure hope someone told them how to vote. But I would also wager that he has the overall “independent” vote – which I think is far and away the larger voting block. I think if Hines somehow ends up in third place, that is Chelsea’s best chance at winning because Kirstie would still have to make up anywhere from 29k to 35k.

More interesting is what happens if, in Scenario Two, Kirstie beats Chelsea and Chelsea lands in 3rd place. That would mean that Kirstie got 35,200 more votes per million cast than Chelsea did – a very large number. If she can get that many more than Chelsea, can she beat Hines?? And that should be the question on everyone’s mind if Scenario Number 2 goes down. I’m going to wager that this is Hines’ game to lose.

Only a few more hours till we find out! 🙂

DWTS Season 12 – Will Maksim Chmerkovskiy Return To Dancing With The Stars Next Season?

I hate even thinking about Maks not returning next Season. 🙁 But, according to TV Squad via AOL, it’s a big possibility. Right now, Maks is drained which is understandable. He’s been working non-stop this past year. It sounds like he may want to try some more acting too which Kirstie is encouraging. More below and at the link.

“I don’t know,” he shared. “It takes a lot out of you. When you invest that much of you into something that’s supposed to be just work you [can] get misinterpreted. I don’t know [if I’m coming back]. We’ll see. Right now, I’m drained.”

Chmerkovskiy, who joined the show in Season 2, has taken a break from ‘DWTS’ before, sitting out Season 6 back in 2008.

His current partner Kirstie Alley thinks Chmerkovskiy could have a bright future ahead of him as an actor.

“He’s got good qualities,” she said. “He’s handsome, he’s got a good voice and he’s funny. He’s got other qualities … he’s broody, he’s deep. All the bad boy actors are like that. He could be a really great actor if he wanted to act.”

Chmerkovskiy is mulling over his options for professional opportunities. “I have a great team of people behind me,” he said. “They know how to make me do the right thing. It’s going to be up to them.”

Chmerkovskiy plans to open a Los Angeles area dance studio soon. He’s one of the co-founders of the Dance With Me Studios, which has locations in Ridgefield, NJ, Manhattan, NY and Long Island, NY. “We’re finalizing the deal [for the Los Angeles location] and it’s going to be an amazing gorgeous place.”

The Ukrainian-born Chmerkovskiy would also love to take some time off to visit his family. “I haven’t seen my home since August,” he said. “I want to make sure I do stuff for me because it seems to me that I do a lot of things for others.”

Although Chmerkovskiy said plans to listen to his career advisers, he added that, in the end, “I’ll do what’s right for me.”

So, what do you think? Will Maks be back? The show won’t be the same without him in my opinion….just like with Derek this Season. 🙁 What’s more, I remember a lot of Maks fans saying they were glad Derek didn’t return for Season 12 and saying the most rude things all in order for a win for Maks. Well, now, I have to wonder how that karma is going to feel when the shoe is on the other foot?

Heidi’s Note: Karma…she is a beyotch. 😉 I’ve really been enjoying Maks this season, but if he needs a season off to recharge, then he should do that rather than going back to being…well, old Maks. I like current Maks. Thanks Kirstie. 🙂

DWTS 12 Finals – Interview Roundup After The First Two Dances (Videos)

Wow, what a night!! Let’s get right to the interviews after the show. George Pennacchio of KTLA gets right to the heart of the matter and doesn’t fail us again. He dissects the dances (especially the freestyle) as well as asking our dancing couples about tonight’s dances where they each will dance again and the judges will then rank them. Let’s not forget this contest is not over.

First up, Chelsea remarks how the Freestyle was the most challenging dance of the Season and she is worried since they are the “underdogs”. They have no idea what will happen tonight. Mark says she was the best partner. She worked so hard. Chelsea also talks about the mistakes she made lastnight and that she was shocked to get 10’s in the Freestyle (so was I).

Hines said Kym had a vision with a band theme with their Freestyle. They even had an area highschool help them. Even though Kim’s neck hurt, they both felt comfortable with all the special lifts they did. Hines said this has been such a wonderful ride and he can’t believe he made it this far. They are excited to dance their favorite dance again tonight hoping to get their scores higher.

George thought Maks and Kirstie’s Freestyle was the “most daring” and “interesting” of the night. He loved it. Kirstie says she’s been daring her whole life and she wanted Maks to push her from the beginning. She wanted to do everything any dancer would do. They also discuss how they were hoping to get 10’s last night. But, they had fun. They talk how they have one more chance tonight to dance. Kirstie wants to start a revolution. Maks says Kirstie is a winner no matter what. Her story is remarkable. (they are so bittersweet)

Access Hollywood also interview our couples. Below is Mark and Chelsea again talking about the intensity of their lifts and the risk factor. They talk of how they worked the lights on their feet and hands.

Hines and Kym talk about all of their lifts and “ripping out the guns”. They talk of how close the competition is and how it will come down to the fans. They can’t wait to dance again tonight and this won’t be the end of their relationship. They talk of how they were inspired for the Freestyle.

Kirstie forewarned us last week that she was going to do some “aerials” and that’s just what she did. Her and Maks go through their rehearsals. Kirstie also mentions how wound up she gets whenever someone mentions “age” in the way Carrie Ann mentioned after their dance and she is right. Maks says Kirstie is “young and amazing”. He talks about their complete journey. Maks is so sweet. He says he can’t top this partnership. The question is asked if he is coming back next Season and he is not sure.

Stay tuned to this space. We may have more videos to add later!! 😉
