Derek Hough Talks “Marilu’s Moment” and Music Issues in His DWTS 23, Week 5 Blog

Derek’s blog this week is a bit shorter than normal, but it’s full of all kinds of somewhat revealing comments. The biggest is the music issues. It’s something we’ve always known, but readers often ask us about the music. Well, he pretty much lays it out. He’s much kinder than I am, since I tend to think that there really isn’t THAT much “mis-communicating” and more like “orchestrating”. 🙂 Remember – reality TV show. As for the middle paragraph I quoted – there are a few pros who should take some notes on this. Perhaps some fans too.

The funny thing is, I found the song we danced to, “Surprise Yourself” by Jack Garratt, and the producers wanted to use a different song. I asked why and they were like, “No one knows it.” But I stood my ground. It was the perfect song for Marilu and the dance. Plus, even if the song is not well known, people might search for it afterward and make it well known. It only helps everyone. We got so many messages afterward asking us what the song was. It was the same thing with my freestyle with Kellie Pickler — no one knew that song either, but everyone asked afterward about it.

After having that breakthrough, I think it kind of takes the pressure off of us. I know it does for me personally. I feel like a broken record, but I really just wanted her to experience that joy. I think Marilu is no longer scared of disappointing me! All jokes aside, we talked about it. I said I understand and I said, “This is your experience. This is your journey. I’m here to help. I’m here to serve. This is yours. I want you to own it.” I think she gets it now and we’re good. I don’t want her to be scared of me! I am probably the least scary person in the world!

We had a little song drama this week too. There was some miscommunication and we thought we had a salsa because our song is so salsa-like. So for all of Tuesday, we were prepping a salsa, and then they were like, “No, you have a cha-cha.” We’re calling it a “chalsa.” The song is so salsa that I feel like I have to incorporate some salsa moves into it. Plus, it’s Latin Week, so we want to make it fun and vibrant.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Maks Chmerkovskiy Can’t Wait To Be A “Stay-At-Home” Dad, Not Doing DWTS Season 24

Maks Chmerkovskiy talked with Bravo TV about his plans for the future. He’s so excited to be a Dad. So much so, he’s not planning to do Dancing With The Stars next season. I have to say….I can’t blame him. Read on to see why. So cute…

“Honestly I feel like going on the record and saying two things,” he exclusively told The Daily Dish. “First of all, like I’ve already said, I’m having the best time of my life on Dancing with the Stars. It’s a known fact. I’ve said it. I was quoted as saying the production is on point. I feel the love. I feel like everybody’s so friendly [and] we all work for the same goal, [which] is to keep dancing in television and produce a beautiful show. Having said that, I’m telling you right now I have zero interest in coming back as a dancer [next season].”

Maks has stepped away from the show before. He took a break between seasons 15 and 18. Following season 18, he took a second hiatus until this current season. He cites the show being “uberstressful” as one of the reasons he’s contemplating another break. Well that, and the fact that he and fiancée/fellow pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd will soon be parents and newlyweds. They plan to wed in the summer 2017.

“I’m going to have a newborn baby. I have zero want to do this. I promise you that,” he said.”It’s been it for me two years ago. I never thought I’d be back here in this position. I’m glad I am. I promise, I’m so glad that I made this decision. But like I said [I’m] looking forward. The baby comes in January and then a month-and-a-half later I would have to be in L.A. to start training with somebody else. Trust me, I really don’t care how this comes across, but there’s no money on the planet that can replace me missing out the three, four, five months of my baby’s life. Zero chance. I can’t wait for all of this, diapers, and all of this stuff. I cant wait for Peta to pursue her goals and whatever and I just want to be a stay-at-home dad.”

Billy Bush For Dancing With The Stars Season 24??

Mark down our first rumor for Dancing With The Stars Season 24. According to Page Six, producers has began courting Bully Bush. Let us know what you think in comments.

An insider tells Page Six that “Dancing with the Stars” has begun courting the embattled “Today” star, 44, to compete on their upcoming spring 2017 season.

“It comes in March,” the source told us. “That’s far enough away. Everybody goes on to do the apology tour. It’s ironic there is Ryan Lochte on, who he started this controversy with when he started with ‘Today.’”

If Bush inks a deal with the show, which has relaunched a number of careers, he could dance his way to a new job on a new network.

“It’s also a way for ABC to establish a relationship with him,” the source noted.

Page Six previously reported Bush is already searching for a “high-power fixer” to help his ailing image. Another source emphatically said, “His likability factor has always been off anyway as a lot of viewers find him annoying.” And this could help.

More at Page Six. I’m not sure I want to comment on this one or not? Even before this scandal, I’ve found him annoying.
