Dancing with the Stars Season 29, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

They finally stopped calling it a cold open, but still Tyra is a focus of the show. She walks out every week – why is this an event?

The show will start with host Tyra Banks walking out to the ballroom to “I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross. In addition, judge Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert will dance a special Paso Doble to “Uccen” by Taalbi Brothers.

According to the Futon Critic, the November 2 show will feature a double elimination. Buckle your seat belts!!

Here’s who’s dancing what this week. Looks to me like only Vernon, AJ, Skai, Johnny, Nev and possibly Kaitlyn got dance styles in their wheelhouse. Everyone else could be in trouble. Except possibly Chrishell who got contemporary…which has no rules and Gleb can sex it up to the max.

Nelly & Daniella – Viennese Waltz (“Humble & Kind” by Tim McGraw)

Monica & Val – Rumba (“Have I Told You Lately” by Rod Stewart)

Vernon & Peta – Cha Cha (“Celebration” by Kool & The Gang)

Justina & Sasha – Viennese Waltz (“She’s Always a Woman” by Billy Joel)

Jeannie & Brandon – Rumba (“You Gotta Be” by Des’ree)

AJ & Cheryl – Samba (“Mi Gente” by J Balvin and Willy William)

Skai & Alan – Cha Cha (“Say So” by Dojo Cat, featuring Nicki Minaj)

Johnny & Britt – Salsa (“On The Floor” by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull)

Nev & Jenna – Jazz (“Good Vibrations” by Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch)

Chrishell & Gleb – Contemporary (“Stars” by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals)

Kaitlyn & Artem – Samba (“Sorry” by Justin Bieber)

Who Danced it better….first up, Nancy Kerrigan dancing Waltz to “She’s Always a Woman”. Justina is doing V. Waltz and I don’t think the slow dances are her strong suit. And I love Nancy’s dress!

I didn’t find “Have I told You Lately” on youtube…and I searched BOTH DWTS and Dancing with the Stars. 🙂 I also had trouble with “Celebration”…found lots of celebration related stuff, but not the actual song. I did find a very sweet waltz by David and Lindsay to “Humble and Kind”…and another gorgeous dress. Nelly is a better dancer (by a little) than David, but can he handle and V. Waltz??

I also didn’t find “You Gotta Be” by Des’ree. Keep in mind, me not finding it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, it just means that my casual search did not turn up a video. But, here is an excellent Samba by Jordan and Lindsay to “Mi Gente”…doubt very much AJ can live up to this one.

I found nothing on “Say So” by Dojo Cat, but I guess I should expect to since the official video was only posted on youtube 7 months ago. I also didn’t see “On the Floor” on youtube…I saw tons of Pitbull (obviously) and I saw a bit of Jennifer, including a pro dance choregraphed by Derek, but nothing with this particular song. Man, I’m striking out a lot…cuz I couldn’t find “Good Vibrations” or “Stars” either. But of COURSE I found Ginger and Val dancing to a latin remix of “Sorry” by Justin Bieber. I could barely watch the whole thing as I’m still traumatized from having Ginger shoved down my throat to this day when it comes to GMA and DWTS. Ugh. I feel very confident that Kaitlyn and Artem will do it better.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing with the Stars Season 29, Week 5 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

It’s 80’s Night….and this is just ridiculous, not Rad or Tubular. From the ABC/Disney Press Release:

The show will start with a cold open with Tyra walking into the ballroom to Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know.”

Wow, what a great cold open and so very different from every other week this season. Dear lord. Tyrant is NOT the star of this show!! This is exactly what everyone was worried about when they heard she was joining the show. And since she’s executive producer, there is likely little the other producers can do about it. It’s literally vomit inducing. There are at least 25 people who are going to be on the show this week that are more talented than her (sorry CAI and Bruno, you didn’t quite make the cut…close, though, Bruno). Anyway, on to the real stars of the show and what they’re dancing.

BTW, I’m a youngster of the 80’s and Tainted Love is one of my all time favorite songs. 🙂 But WHY did they have to give it to Val? I doubt he and Monica will do it justice. Damn, also love “I think we’re alone now”…excellent and I have higher hopes for Kaitlyn and Artem doing it justice. Lot’s a tangos!! “The Power of Love” was one of those songs they played to absolute death…I think I’m still over it and cringe when I hear it. Same goes for “Total Eclipse” and “Open Arms”. The Jazz dances will be interesting because those songs are so clearly not jazzy at all; Jazz has more clearly than ever been reduced to a catch all where you can do anything you want. Ahhh…also love Tears for Fears. I suppose the producers aren’t cool enough to whip out a Squeeze song, are they? Answer: No.

ETA: AJ dancing 6th which should put him at the top of the hour. The pimpage continues…

Nelly & Daniella – Samba  (Song: “Rhythm of the Night” by DeBarge)

Monica & Val – Tango  (Song: “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell)

Vernon & Peta – Tango (Song: “Livin’ On a Prayer” by Bon Jovi)

Justina & Sasha – Jazz  (Song: “Maniac” by Michael Sembello)

Jeannie & Brandon – Jazz  (Song: “Like a Virgin” by Madonna)

AJ & Cheryl – Waltz  (Song: “Open Arms” by Journey)
Dancing 6th

Skai & Alan – Jazz  (“The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News)

Johnny & Britt – Contemporary  (Song: “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Taylor)

Jesse & Sharna – Tango  (Song: “Everybody Wants to Rule The World” by Tears for Fears)

Nev & Jenna – Quickstep  (Song: “Take on Me” by a-ha)

Chrishell & Gleb – Cha Cha  (Song: “You Got it (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block)

Kaitlyn & Artem – Tango  (Song: “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany)

Who Danced it Better?  Well, I don’t remember a lot of 80’s music on DWTS, but let’s look at what I could find. I could only find “Open Arms” on SCD and it’s a beautiful waltz. I don’t see AJ doing this well.

Dancing with the Stars Season 29, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Okay, so they don’t say that it’s “most memorable year” week on DWTS, but it kinda sounds like it might be.  So weird.  Per the press release:

IT’S AN EXCITING AND EMOTIONAL NIGHT OF COMPETITION

The show will start with a comedic PSA cold open, followed by Skai Jackson giving a powerful tribute to her friend and fellow actor Cameron Boyce, as well as AJ McLean walking down memory lane on his Backstreet Boys journey since the beginning.

Oh goodie, a comedic cold open. How about you let us decide the comedic value, eh??

Kaitlyn gets slower songs two weeks in a row. Not sure if that’s good or bad. Justina looks like she’ll be back in her wheelhouse with a salsa. Meanwhile, AJ gets one of the easier dances of the night and is dancing to one of his own songs. If they start pimping him, I’m going to be pissed, after his constant dissing of Jesse on his podcast. He’ll likely do it again, since they’re dancing the same style. I’m looking forward to Nelly’s Paso with Daniella. I also think Johnny’s jive will be something to see…seems right up his alley, actually. Hmmmm….week four and we’re still dancing traditional ballroom/latin styles. I’m SO NOT complaining, but I remember hearing all the BS from tyrant about new dance styles or something. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 23 Finale Night Two – Media, Interviews, And Lots More

My oh my! Where do we start today? First, I just want to congratulate all of the couples last night. I still think James & Sharna and Calvin & Lindsay were more consistent and the better dancers, but, overall the season didn’t disappoint me. I really thought all the pros stepped it up with their choreography this season…..especially Sasha, Sharna, and Lindsay. I loved Derek, Cheryl, Allison, Emma, Maks, and Gleb too. I’m so thankful they all returned!! And what a great celebrity cast too. We had such great TV legends join us like Marilu (this lady has become so extra special to us! We consider her a friend!) and Maureen. Rick Perry was a hoot. Vanilla Ice was so fun. Terra Jole and Ryan Lochte were so inspiring. Laurie was a doll. What about the legendary Babyface too? Awww, what a season.

So, let’s see what the finalists thought of last night (I have to make this quick though as I have so much to do to get ready for Thanksgiving). Below you can watch some interviews. Don’t miss seeing ET Online, Glamour (I’m loving all of their backstage things), Fox, and People for all of their coverage after the show. Extra and Access Hollywood might have something later. So, be sure to see those sites. For beautiful, stunning HQ pics from Night Two, see Getty Images. If you missed any of the dances last night, see Idolxfactor.com.

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, THE FINALE (Night Two) – LIVE BLOG!!

As always…

Site rules in are effect – don’t hit refresh every 2 minutes, make sure you’re not posting one-liners, etc. Thank you. 🙂

I often like the Finale – but I often find it to be jammed with pointless filler while we wait an absurdly long time to find out who wins. Which way will it feel tonight? I bet wine would help….

So far, I’m seeing a lot of stuff that looks rehashed either from earlier this season, or last thanksgiving’s season. Cuz Mandy.

No Derek in the pro dance, not a surprise, I guess. He should have known the choreo from earlier this season. 🙂

James redoing my favorite dance of his…or one of them anyway. 🙂

After the obligatory VT of early season happenings, we have Andy Grammar singing while Allison and Keo do a dance that starts out kinda strange.

Next up, Calvin and Lindsay – great dance from them, as per usual.   Marilu on All Access, in All Access Update.

I love Maureen with all the men, including Babyface and Ryan!! That was fun, the lucky woman.

A pro dance that starts out as a bump and grind – shocking right?? I do like the colorful leotards though.

Of course Laurie and Val pick the dance that’s all about Maks and Val as their favorite. I question if they really picked it…

Very nice that they went to the Children’s hospital.

All Access Update – watching the Grove cam and that floor they’re on is very slippery.

OMG….this song makes me freakin’ SOB every damn time. And this beautiful dance to go with it. Jenna’s dress was hot. Glad she didn’t the whole song and make my eyes hurt. 🙂

Love me some Babyface as well – so Smoooooth.

Rick Perry has gone insane in a wonderful, wonderful way. 🙂

Okay Calvin and James just MADE what I though was going to be a boring guy strip number. And Ryan was there too? Cool. that was fun.

Terra being hilarious on the Grove Cam on All Access. Marilu trying not to bust her ass on the slippery floor.

And we are getting NO Derek tonight. :::sigh::: At least I get him twice on Thanksgiving. I don’t mean that to sound dirty. 😉 Seriously, they need to move inside – that floor is dangerous.

Maks trying real hard not to be a hypocrite on All Access about Laurie being an Olympian. He’s failing, of course.

Sorry, I’m finding All Access more interesting than the actual show.  Which I see we are exploiting Laurie’s grief again. Goodie.

Okay this has cool potential with Fikshun in it. Don’t get the Jenna love though. Oooo…the ladies in pink look lovely. Sugar plum fairies?

Gee, look at Maks dancing with the cool little girl that no one on this show has ever danced with before. :::snark:::

Wow, the DWTS Tour finally made it to Radio City? Wow, wonder if they sell it out. And what’s this about a “Major Cast Announcement?”

Yeah, the order they just announced them in doesn’t bode well for James. I’ve seen it too many times.

Beautiful fusion from James – lovely. Seemed like he had both elements in there.

Julianne’s dress looks beautiful, what I can see of it.

Fun dance from Calvin and Lindsay – but man, CAI is just an idiot. Shut up already!

Judges are not going to change the results, since Laurie can’t get higher than 10s. She’ll get a 40. Why watch?

Well, if the judges gush over that too much they’ll look ridiculous. Okay who am I kidding. The one lift was messy as hell, but they’ll completely ignore it.

And that’s it – Laurie’s gonna win. CAI is acting the moron and we know what that means.

But Len didn’t do his “You should win” to Laurie, so maybe there’s hope.

Geez, Jana sings just like she dances – kinda flat yet over wrought.

I’m thinking that the exploitation certainly helped her.

Now…for third place: Calvin and Lindsay

AND THE WINNER IS….Laurie and Val. Congrats to Laurie – she’s a cutie.

And that, ladies and gentlemen is why I can’t take Val. Always the attention hog. Laurie’s moment, dude. Just…STFU.

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, The Finale – Dancing by the Numbers! The MBT Goes to…

I’m somewhat happy to say that I don’t really know what’s going to happen. 🙂  Not sure where to start on this one.

Well, I think my favorite freestyle was Calvin’s. But I think he’s going to get third place. Love the dude…and I really find any man who gets emotional seeing his (extremely gorgeous) son exceptionally attractive. But I think he should be happy with third place, considering the competition.
