Paige VanZant Hoping To Show Women Can Be Strong And Feminine On Dancing With The Stars (New Interview)

I’m excited UFC fighter Paige VanZant is going to dance on Dancing With The Stars. She told Los Angeles Times that it’s such an honor that they reached out to her. She’s hoping to show that women can be strong and feminine at the same time.

“I’m really excited that they picked me to be on the show and it’s an honor that they reached out to me,” VanZant told the Los Angeles Times. “I kind of grew up in the [dance] studio because my mom owned [one] and I danced since I was little. I’m excited to see if I still have a little of that dance side left.”

No other active UFC fighter has participated on the show.

“To shed light on women fighters in general, and show we are so much more than just what we show in the cage … we are not these violent animals. We’re people and we have so many other talents than just beating each other up,” VanZant said.

“I’m excited to show that woman can be strong and be feminine at the same time. People like watching me fight because I don’t look like the typical fighter and people can relate to that. … [They’re] really surprised to see that women fighters are so technical and we leave everything out there.

“We go out to win. … Women are more emotional than men, [but] I think that’s definitely been an advantage for us.”

Paige VanZant Talks To Fox Sports About Dancing With The Stars And Bringing A New Dimension

After the cast announcement, Paige VanZant talked to Fox Sports about dancing on Dancing With The Stars. She just wants to bring a new dimension and be a really good representative of women’s sports. I’m loving this girl….

VanZant knows how huge this opportunity is for her and that she’ll be a representative for women’s MMA, and she takes that very seriously.

“I just want to bring a new dimension and I want to be a really good representative of women’s athletes and women’s fighters. Just to show them that we can do so much more than fight, so much more than just being tough. So I’m excited to show a whole new side of me,” VanZant said.

“People identify me as a fighter and I am a fighter, I’m tough, but I want to show there’s so much more to me than that.”

VanZant’s appearance on “Dancing with the Stars” began with a conversation her management team had with the producers of the show several months ago as the cast for the new season started coming together.

Is UFC Champ Tito Ortiz Up For DWTS Season 16??

If you don’t know, Tito Ortiz is a UFC champ who recently retired. Tito talks at length about bullying and fighting against it – fantastic cause. At the end of the discussion, of COURSE Access Hollywood has to ask him if he would consider doing DWTS. It’s SO random, that I have to wonder if they were prompted to ask. Anyway, at first he’s like “oh, I took a little interest in it” but as he goes on it sounds like he’d like to show Chuck Liddell how it’s done and he said he always told his fans that if he did it would be after he retired…and he’s now retired. So…who knows? We’ve had more than one celebrity respond to a random question like this in a somewhat vague manner who then ended up being on the show that season.

What do you think?? And do you think that this is just a coincidence?? 😀  Derek is the only reason I know who Tito is, him being a massive UFC fan and all.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Shakira Performs on Dancing with the Stars – UFC Goes Down Fighting

Tonight’s episode had a little bit of a shock too it, but we’re still a couple episodes from the real shocking eliminations. However, what I think is impressive is that Dancing with the Stars was able to get a big name like Shakira on the show. Granted 14 million viewers and probably a chunk of cash will convince a lot of performers to come on the show.

Since I’m always listing the music from the show, Shakira performed “Did It Again” and “Hips Don’t Lie” Shakira - Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 - Hips Don't Lie (feat. Wyclef Jean) with the Shakira dancers. I think I prefer when they use the pro ballroom dancers myself.

I have to admit that I thought Chuck’s teddy bear quality and also the UFC fan base would have carried him through a little farther. I guess UFC doesn’t really get into ballroom dancing. Although, it’s not revealing anything when I say that the NFL (Michael Irvin) has a bit larger audience than the UFC.
