PureDWTS Season 24, Week 8 – Rashad & Emma On Access Hollywood, Talk Rashad’s Dad, Plans for the Future, & the Race to the Mirrorball

Shad & Emma did Access Hollywood today, and chatted about everything from Rashad’s future plans (he seems confident that he’ll get picked up by another team soon, but would “respectfully love to try acting” after his NFL career is over), to Rashad’s note-taking habits (Emma says he’s “a perfectionist”), their “Most Memorable Year” dance for Shad’s dad, and their chances of winning the MBT (interesting to note that he’s been Liz Hernandez’s pick to win since week one 😉 ). They also played a fun round of dance trivia, and Emma filled them in on her wedding planning progress…check it out below:

Thoughts And Prayers For DWTS 23 Terra Jole

I know that we’re all ready to start Season 24, but can we all just take a couple moments and send some thoughts or prayers toward Terra? She was recently on Access Hollywood Live (video below), and revealed just how much she was hurting throughout last season. I was actually crying, and it’s the first time that I can remember Kit going over and hugging the person she was interviewing. And a BIG THANK YOU to Sasha, who is always his wonderful self, for being there for her throughout the whole season, and the times since their season ended that he’s been there for her.

DWTS 15, Week 4: Saying Goodbye to Bristol Palin (Sort of…) – Elimination Interviews

After a frustrating 4 weeks (both for Bristol & Mark and us as viewers!) Bristol was eliminated last night – and apparently doing all the post show media was a bit overwhelming for her (cause, y’know, she totally had to go change her hair and whatnot…*eye roll*), so Mark held down the fort with On the Red Carpet and offered up his take on their elimination.  He also offers up his predictions for the winner of this season:

Next stop was Access Hollywood, and Bristol must have still been fussing with her hair, so Mark did all the talking again.  He talks about the show being a “journey” and how proud he is of Bristol for the work that she’s done.  I had to chuckle at Mark’s reaction to being asked if he’d be dancing in the troupe:

After that, Bristol must have finally been done messing with her hair (those blasted ponytails…so complicated!) and she & Mark hit up Jimmy Kimmel.  Jimmy asks Bristol if she had a feeling she’d be eliminated, and what she thinks is the key to her longevity on the show.  She & Mark also chat about their fight, and Jimmy makes an interesting point about the rehearsal packages:

I must say, I rather enjoyed the cockamamie idea of Bristol being on The Bachelorette (HA!) and Guillermo is always a highlight for me 😛 In all seriousness, though, as much as I wanted Bristol gone after week 2 – I think she & Mark managed to go out gracefully, and they both seem to be at peace with their elimination.  Although I have to wonder how she would have fared on Team Gilles…I would have enjoyed watching her bungle Gilles’ magnum opus of a team dance.  Bwahahahahaha 😀

DWTS All-Stars, Week 4: Apolo & Karina Bring the Heat (and Innuendo) to Access Hollywood

If Kelly & Val are the couple in “puppy love” this season…then Apolo & Karina are the couple most likely to be lusting after one another, methinks ;-P  There’s simply too many “meoooooowwww” moments in this clip to list them all – trust me, you need to just watch…and giggle like a schoolgirl, like Karina.  The couple hit up Access Hollywood yesterday to chat about their chemistry, their hip-hop routine, and…”man Kegels”??? 😯

Ok, you all know I’m not typically the type to swoon over the male pros/celebs on DWTS (the female pros? That’s another story 😉 ).  But something about Apolo in this clip – and just in this season, in general – makes me want to climb all over him like a jungle gym.  He’s definitely grown ‘n’ sexy, and has a wicked, saucy sense of humor that seems to make Karina melt like a popsicle on the 4th of July 😛 The hapless hosts just keep inadvertently asking some eyebrow-raising questions – and Apolo just keeps answering with zinger after zinger, without missing a beat.  And Karina rolls with it just as well! After titillating us with innuendo about 50 Shades of Grey, “hooking up”, and who has more stamina, Apolo also talks about the differences between being partnered with Julianne vs. Karina (“She was only 18, we were not hooking up!”), and Gilles’ quest for the MBT (“He’s got his fangs out!”), and the two also chat briefly about their hip-hop routine this week – Karina says Apolo’s going to be choreographing some of it, and Apolo’s ready to “show everyone his hip-hop side”.  I think I’m most excited for their routine next week – not only because Apolo seems really excited about it, but because they got an AWESOME song…which we will be spoiling at some point this weekend.  Keep your eyes peeled 😎

The two also briefly weighed in on Drew & Helio’s somewhat surprising eliminations, and Bristol’s staying power…I kind of love their facial expressions when talking about Bristol :-P:

So who else is TeamOhYes? Or at least Team “I Wouldn’t Kick Apolo Out of Bed For Eating Crackers”? 😉

Saying Goodbye To Drew Lachey & Helio Castroneves – Elimination Interviews

Court here, filling in for the “Voguecationing” Vogue 😎 I know I’m not as good at these as she is, but I’m gonna give it the old college try in her absence! And just hope that she comes back to us soon 🙁 We miss you, Vogue!!!

Making the rounds after their heartbreaking (and premature, IMO) double elimination last night, Drew & Anna and Helio & Chelsie chatted first with On the Red Carpet:

They also chatted with Access Hollywood about their early ouster.  God love Helio, he has got to be one of the most gracious, positive people I think we’ve ever had on the show – he seems to be taking it all in stride and is just grateful for the opportunity to return.  Drew seems to be taking it a little bit harder – even though I think he knew it was coming, doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt any less.  Anna also seems to be pretty upset about it.

The last stop of the evening was Jimmy Kimmel – by that point, I think everyone was getting a little tired & slap-happy and were just tryng to have fun 😛 :

UPDATE: You can check out Drew & Anna, Helio & Chelsie getting interviewed by Ann Romney on GMA this morning here. I think the interview gets a little awkward & choppy due to the delay in the feed between NY & LA (and Ann just being kind of new at the whole interviewing thing), but Drew obviously has a bone to pick with the judges for their scores…can’t say I blame him.

I’m actually really sad to see these two go – they were two of the bright spots for me each week, even if they weren’t the best dancers, because I could tell they were working hard and having fun…unlike some others this season 😯

Ok guys, I’m gonna enlist your help – if you happen upon any other elimination interviews that I haven’t already posted, go ahead and post the LINK ONLY (don’t embed it, it makes the comments go all wonky) in the comments section and I will add it.  I dunno how Vogue does it – I have a whole new appreciation for how thorough and comprehensive her coverage is.  I can barely keep up! 😛

Derek Hough and Shawn Johnson on Access Hollywood (Video)

Cross Posted from PureDerekHough.com

Very very cute together, these two. They crack me UP. Is it possible that Shawn could force Derek into a less PC stance?? 🙂

DWTS Season 14 – The Great “Previous Dance Experience” Debate, Part II

So last Wednesday, we took a look at the male contestants’ dancing pasts.  Today we’ll take a look at the women, who are arguably less talented (and more comical) this season 😉

First up, we have the much buzzed-about Sherri Shepherd, who, aside from possibly taking some lessons at Dance with Me prior to the start of this season, also busted some moves in a choreographed hip-hop number at her wedding reception:

Court: She’s not stellar, but she’s keeping up pretty well – and paired with the extra practice she’s gotten prior to the show, I’d say she has a pretty good foundation.  What’s funnier to me about this clip is Elizabeth Hasselbeck – poor girl sticks out like a sore thumb in line 😛

Heidi: Heh. When the women are dancing it’s like “Dancing with America’s Next Top Model” they are so stiff. Thank god for the men – they’re killin’ it. 🙂

Vogue: I sure hope Big Bird isn’t around as he might want to steal the wedding bride? 😯

The verdict: Sherri may have some hip-hop moves, but it looks like Val’s got his work cut out for him!

Now let’s take a look at Maria Menounos, who got an impromptu belly dancing lesson during a segment on Access Hollywood:

Heidi: :::whines::: Derek gets ALL the dancers. She’s such a ringer.

Vogue: Hmmm, I’m afraid for Derek now a little. Is anyone else?

Courtney: I think this clip just reiterates for me that her biggest obstacle likely won’t be the dances themselves, but just getting over feeling like a goober when she dances – you can tell she feels totally silly here, and it makes her look even more ridiculous.

The verdict: D’s on goober patrol this season.

Up next, we have Katherine Jenkins, who did a number from Carmen during her arena tour that involved some dancing:

Vogue: She’s got some dance skills for sure. What’s more, girl knows about theatrics and how they work. Mark is theatrical in his dancing as well. He’s going to be in heaven with this one.

Court: If she can overcome the potential fanbase problems I could see her having, she could be pretty good – hell, this dance even looks vaguely paso doble-y.

Heidi: Okay, so why is no one screaming “ringer” over this one? The Opera Singer does some actual dancing. Then again, odds are that Mark won’t focus on her in the choreography so it won’t matter. 😀

The verdict: Opera or no opera – Katherine could actually be kinda good.

Let’s move on to Gladys Knight, who admitted during the cast announcement that the Pips “never let her dance”! So admittedly, there really aren’t any videos of Gladys dancing…but I will never turn down the opportunity to listen to the Empress of Soul herself belt out the song that made her famous – “Midnight Train to Georgia”:

Courtney: I doubt the Pips would have taught Gladys anything truly worthwhile that would help her on this show 😛 I mean, side-tap, other side-tap, walk backwards, walk forwards, gesture with your arms.  I’m pretty sure an orangutan with ADD could probably do it.  But I’m nonetheless excited to see what Gladys has up her sleeve 😛

Heidi: Er, well, sure me too…keeping in mind this video is probably from 30 years ago. 🙂

Vogue: When Gladys is finished with Dancing With The Stars, she’ll be able to trade places with her back up singers. Nice moves!!

The verdict: Gladys may not have learned much from the Pips, but she could still be a contender.

Up next, we have this season’s “tough cookie”, Martina Navratilova –  and I must admit, I think I found the perfect video for her 🙂 Why? It’s very ironic…just watch:

Heidi:I certainly admire the thought behind this video – Martina trying to keep people on the move and active. But dancing?? A bit stiff. But then, that comes with age, especially for top ranked athletes.

Vogue: Martina is going to be fierce. I have a feeling when she gets the hip movement down for a Samba, she won’t need a racquet to play tennis anymore. 🙂

Court: Ok, maybe I’m in the minority here, but I’m not sold on Martina being as fierce on the dance floor as she is on the tennis court.  And in this clip, she actually doesn’t seem all that enthralled by dance to me – you could replace “dance” with “colonoscopy” and it would make more sense for me 😛 But she does seem to have the right philosophy – even if it was scripted.  But check out the dude in the background…he’s cracking me up!

The verdict: Not sure about Martina, but the dude in the background LOVES to dance!

Last up, we have Melissa Gilbert, who is best known for playing Laura “Half Pint” Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie.  Here’s a cute clip of the episode where she stole Nellie’s music box and danced to it in the hay loft…although I doubt it played Adele:

Vogue: I’m utterly speechless. At this point in time, I’d say Maks (like Derek) is in trouble as well. 😯

Court: Granted, this clip is older than the hills, and I’m not sure that pioneer girls really had a whole lot of slick moves to bust.  But it’s cute, and it’s the only remotely dance-related clip of Melissa I could find 😛

Heidi: Heh, this could be one of those times that growing older is helpful. 😉

The verdict: With age comes wisdom. 🙂

Dancing with the Stars Season 10 Cast – To the Moon, and Beyond!!!

Yes, I am (mis)quoting a cartoon. Why? It’s the first thing that sprang to mind when reading Access Hollywood:

But Access’ “Dancing” casting news doesn’t end there!

Access has also learned someone who has walked on the moon is set to shake their former-intergalactic groove thing in the ballroom too, the source said.

Buzz Aldrin, who was the second person to set foot on the moon, is the favorite, thanks to his regular appearances across television. Although, it still yet could be Neil Armstrong.

Buzz has appeared on “The Simpsons,” “Celebrity Jeopardy,” “NUMB3RS” and most recently, “The Price Is Right” in November 2009.

Access Hollywood also confirms that Pam Anderson will be dancing this season. And after being afraid that Derek might not even be on the show, I’m actually okay with her dancing with my favorite. It’s called perspective, people. 🙂

Shawn Johnson Makes Big Money on Dancing with the Stars

The following was dug up by Reality TV Magazine when they found some court documents that details what Shawn Johnson was being paid to be on Dancing with the Stars. My commentary will follow:

According to the contract filed in court between Johnson and BBC Worldwide Productions, which produces the show, Shawn Johnson is being paid a guarantee of $125,000 to do the show, Access Hollywood has reported. The guarantee covers training, the first two weeks of Dancing With The Stars and her appearance at the finale.

Shawn Johnson will receive $10,000 for getting through the third and fourth weeks of Dancing With The Stars.

For weeks 5, 6 and 7, the gymnast will take home $20,000 a week. She’ll earn $30,000 for weeks 8 and 9, and if she makes it to weeks 10 and 11, Shawn Johnson will earn $50,000 a week, for a grand total of $365,000.

If Dancing With The Stars chooses to produce specials of the show she can earn $30,000 for each one made.

The money doesn’t end there either. Future Dancing With The Stars programming which would complement her Dancing With The Stars run would earn Shawn Johnson $10,000 per show, and $5,000 for each in studio interview promoting the possible new official programming tied into the show. She is not paid, however, to do publicity for the show.
Source

Ok, so we all knew that Dancing with the Stars was paying a reasonably large amount of money for the stars to participate. It’s just fun to see the actual numbers. Seems like a reasonable sum to me considering she’s going out of her comfort zone and dancing in front of 30 million people LIVE each week. I’m really happy for her and I’m glad that she’s getting paid. I’m sure she’s doing alright for herself, but being a gymnast isn’t the most lucrative job in the world I’m sure. Granted, she is probably the highest earning gymnast in America. Regardless I’m cool with the amount. Doesn’t sound too outrageous to me.

What would be interesting is to know how much Woz and Mark Cuban got paid/are getting paid. They are both billionaires and so $365,000 (which they’ll get much less) is just more than a rounding error for them. Hopefully they did something nice and gave it to charity.

I bet Melissa must be really happy. I wonder how much she’s getting paid to step in at the last minute and do this. Enough for her to quit her job. I’m actually glad she’s getting paid after Jason Mesnick screwed her over. There’s always a silver lining.
