Dancing with the Stars Season 28, Week SIX – LIVE BLOG
No idea what to expect tonight, other than a very disappointing elimination. You?
T-minus 30 minutes…
Remember to include context when commenting!! Here we gooooo….
Okay….that was weird. I don’t get it. What am I missing? Why did James run away? Where was Hannah (and Karamo?)?
Ally going first tonight! CAI talking about how amazing she’s been. Agreed. She’s very cute. I like her. Quickstep to “Take on Me” by Aha. Love this song. Remember when the video came out.
They were off time that whole opening. That production was a bad idea. Seems like she gets it back. Liked that run down the center. Mis-step after that big circle thing they did. Should not be 9s, but maybe 8s.
Len: First out – first class. Nice mix of steps, nice frame. Here and there foot faults. full of Energy.
Bruno: So bright I need sunglasses. Very enthusiastic. Very fast, lost synchronicity in the foot work. (agreed). Body contact was good.
CAI: Agree with Bruno. Loved the concept, really challenging to start in two separate areas (agreed). Len is blind as a bat. You have excelled.
No Tom, judges are on target for a change. Except for Len.
Scores: 8, 9, 8 for a total of 25 (Once again I feel like Len knows what’s going on vote-wise, whereas the others don’t).
Looks like my original prediction for Ally was right on target.
Kate is up next with her V.Waltz to “I have nothing” by Witney Houston. She’s so down to earth and she’s so right.
Pasha looks very handsome here. Smooth it out a bit Kate. That’s a whole lot of spinning. But it works with the song. That was a lovely dance. Very well done. Few minor issues, like her butt was out at one point, just a little. But really good.
Bruno: Romantic, always in the best possible taste, your own interpretation to VW. Really really good.
CAI: Learning technique pays off in spades. Victorious VW ever. Way to own it.
Kate: I’m a happy chappy. There’s a step called the fleckle and I never see it. Proud of Pasha for putting it in. Great performance, well done.
Scores: 9, 9, 9 for a total of 27. Called that score as well!
Kel is up next with his quickstep. His song is “Part Time Lover” by Stevie Wonder. LOL – love the dodgeball idea.
Dig the outfit, dig the opening. Wow. He’s doing really well. Much better than I thought he would. This is better than Ally’s!! Excellent job!
CAI: Teamwork makes the dreamwork. Matching steps, synchronicity. ridiculously amazing. She saw a mis-step (disagreed).
Len: Major incident over here. However, apart from that I thought you did an amazing job. (I missed the incident. )
Bruno: Full time dancer, apart from misunderstanding, executed with lightness and musicality. Excellent work.
I thought it was better than Ally’s quickstep by quite a bit. It better not get a lower score.
Scores: 9, 8, 9 for a total of 26 – that’s about right, IMO. Dang…I got it right on my second set of guesses, off by a point on my first.
Karamo and Jenna are up next with a very sad story about his father. But he reached out and apologized. They’re doing contemporary to “Someone to Love”.
Started off a tiny bit stiff, but got into it quickly. Occasionally robotic, it’s like some moves feel good to him and others don’t feel authentic. But really, a pretty damn good job!!
Len: fluid, lovely flow. Great lifts. Lovely light and shade. Really, really well constructed dance (WTF?).
Bruno: Focus and intention, no moments of self doubt. Wonderful balance of strength and fluidity.
CAI: Love is a powerful thing. Could feel the love, passion, connection. Congratulations.
Scores: 9, 8, 8 for a total of 25 out of 30. Very good job. That 9 was a little high, but he needs it badly.
NUMBERS UPDATE: Karamo may currently be on the bottom, but there is only 11k to 13k between him and the people above him. That ain’t nothing.
Hannah up next with her Samba…love that dress but it’s not very Samba-y. Hannah homesick. Dancing to Carrie Underwood.
She’s doing better than I thought she would. She looks like she’s having fun. I’ve never been a samba fan. Liked that funky bit in the middle. Pretty darn good!
Bruno: Brings brazil to nashville. Very difficult to combine country with samba motion. Loses natural bounce.
CAI: you are phenomenal dancer. Ahead of the beat. Picks on the song – which I agree with.
Len: Not an easy routine, and you coped very well, full of content. Liked the flair. More pressure through your feel.
Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a 24 out of 30. Dang. I’m batting a thousand – called that one as well.
Sailor up next with a jive. This actually isn’t a bad idea that Val has for practicing in public.
Oh man, who are all these other people. Okay, they’re not dancing. I can handle that. Not sure what that face was about. Not really feeling this dance and I’m not sure why. She’s a little off balance. And she’s lip syncing again. It was good…but there was something weird about it and I don’t know what.
CAI: That was amazing, you’re so animated. I had fun.
Len: I don’t need waking up. That was full of taste and flavor. Full of wham and personality.
Oh lord, Val given the opportunity to go on.
Bruno: You’ve got it all. It was a great jive, she was playing it.
Scores: 9, 9, 9 for a total of 27 which seems a bit over scored. Makes me wonder if she needs that score…
For those keeping track, I have guessed all the scores right so far, however, Sailor and Kel were in my second set of guesses while the others were in my first guess.
NUMBERS UPDATE: There are only 6.7k votes between Hannah and Karamo, while he needs 11.3k to get past Kate/Sailor and 15k to get past Ally or Kel. Everything hinges, really, on what S___ does with his dance. If Karamo is in the bottom with anyone other than him, I suspect he will be the one eliminated.
CAI and Bruno have good critiques of Lindsay’s partner…but why don’t they score him accordingly??
They’re doing a V. Waltz. Talk about perma-smile. Lindsay is beautiful as usual. Lord, her legs are ten miles long. Side step..side step…side step. Stumble…stumble. Lindsay talking up a storm. 🙂
Len: I admire your tenacity and your hard work. You come out and give it your all.
Bruno: Smartest you’ve ever looked. Steps were all there but looked like tumbleweed at times.
CAI: There was a nice tenderness. You were keeping your feet out from under you. You do try hard.
Audience is on fuckin’ crack for booing the exceedingly kind judges.
Scores: 7, 7, 7 for a total of 21…you’ve got to be kidding me. For effort, Bruno?? WTF?
Remember when I said the judges would do something really stupid?? You just saw it. Only way that makes sense is if he’s in the bottom.
NUMBERS UPDATE: Well, good news is that there is 13.5k votes between Sean and Karamo, and 20.2k votes between Sean and Hannah. But those really aren’t that huge numbers. Between S___ and Ally/Kel there are 27k votes per million while there is 24k votes per million between him and Sailor/Kate. The problem is that there aren’t that many points between Hannah and everyone above her, meaning that any one of them could end up in the bottom with S___. Or Karamo. Could get iffy.
James is up next with his Samba to “Light it Up” by Diplo. At least he got music resembling a Samba, unlike Hannah. But you know, she’s favored. Ummmhmmm….
He’s doing quite well. Still not a samba fan. Never cared for Derek’s sambas even. Seemed pretty good though.
Bruno: Close encounters of the hips kind.
CAI: off the charts. Amazing hips. Tiny note: sometime you do the movements so big they can get out of proportion to your body.
Len: I’m not typing what Len says about his bum. Really, really good samba.
Scores: 9, 9, 9 for a total of 27. Not that it matters, he’s not going anywhere.
Lauren not only gets contemporary, but the big emotional story this week.
For those keeping track, I was a point too high on my guess for James (second guess round) and I was two points off on S___ because I didn’t think the judges would score on effort (they learned nothing from Bones, apparently). You know, we have all new BTS people and I don’t think we can count on them to do things the way the previous group did – pimping, favoring, picking someone to win and trying to steer it that way – but we can count on the judge to learn absolutely nothing from one season to the next. Either they have no clue on the voting and are just stupidly assuming, or they do know the voting and don’t care.
This is a very sad story of Lauren’s step father. So YOUNG when he died. Wish she had a decent partner, because I like the girl. Dang, her mom is young too. Okay, not I’m crying too.
Seeing some Kellie Pickler contemporary moves in here. Gleb went to youtube. She’s doing quite well, but it’s not going to be worthy of the score it will likely get. There were a few awkward moments but all in all it was well done. She’s going to get a ten.
CAI: You’re a brave woman. Touched all of our hearts. Compliments Gleb on the choreography (?!?!).
Len: Such a brave thing to do, to come out and dance with so much emotion.
Bruno: Very sad but it makes me happy to see so much truth and honesty.
Scores: 9, 8, 9 for a total of 26 – okay, the judges didn’t get carried away and I agree with that score. I’m still crying. I know what it’s like to lose a dad. To lose one that young just doesn’t seem fair.
Hannah and Lauren tied with Karamo and S___ below them. I have no idea what’s going to happen, but I suspect I’m going to be pissed at the judges for the score for S___. It’s possible he got so many votes that it didn’t matter…that will also just piss me off. What is wrong with this country?
Okay here we go….Erin shakes her head. Unconscious tell?
SAFE: Lauren
SAFE: Karamo (!!)
SAFE: Kate
SAFE: Kel (Uh oh)
SAFE: James
SAFE: S___ (shit)
SAFE: Hannah
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU AMERICA???
CAI: Ally
Bruno: Ally
Sailor is eliminated in an utter bullshit deal. Those two women should not have been in the bottom two – not even close.
Man, this show just pisses me off so bad.
It’s showtime America
If not Sean, I can see one of Kate, Karamo, or Kel going home.
I’m sure there will be a lot of over scoring tonight, since scores are getting carried over from last week (especially if it creates distance between certain people).
Hannah looks amazing tonight! Love the dress, she looks like a queen.
I have to say I’m liking these cold openings this season.
Really loved that! Don’t know if it was as good as last week (I agree with the judges on their comments), but she is really getting better from week one.
And I agree with Len, I’m glad the dances are longer this season. I can’t believe how ridiculously short they were for the last few seasons.
I agree, there were a couple rough patches but Ally still looked adorable as always.
Missed ally’s video but saw the dance. She killed t. i would have given them a 9. Kate’s video was great. This is my favorite dance from her Thus far tbh. Just was perfect song choice for the dance with awesome choreography from pasha. My friends and I refer to her as Kate the great and she loved up to that again this week 🙂 I’d give them a 9
Kate is such a beautiful dancer. She seemed to float over the floor and I hope she makes it far into the competition
That was such a great dance by Kate. I liked that better than Ally’s. Ballroom is definitely her strong suit on here.
And because it can’t be said enough, Pasha is a keeper
I LOVED Kate’s dance, it was so pretty, I think some good scores are heading their way.
Agreed, Cheryl. Love that dress.
kel & witney have really been improving every week
Kel gets better and better every week. This is the first week I felt a connection between him and Witney. Ever since he was in the bottom 2, it seems like that lit a fire under him. Would love to see him and Witney in the finals.
is it just me or did Kel/Wit start off beat? they weren’t on time with the music for the forst few seconds.
Love Kel. Easily a 9 from me. Costumes were a miss for me though. He is on a roll.
I agree, I liked Kel better than Ally, both were good but Kel was better.
I also agree that that was better than Ally’s. She actually made some mistakes, but Kel gets a point taken off because of Witney’s error (which I didn’t even notice).
I was almost expecting a 7 from Len.
Was Karamo’s dance a rumba? That seemed more contemporary to me.
I swear I thought the announcer say it was a rumba. I thought that dance showcased Jenna more.
But I did enjoy the emotion Karamo brought to the dance. Probably one of his better efforts.
Kara, his dance was contemporary
Petition to get rid of Len!
If u would have told me I was going to say this in week one I would have said yeah right but karamo was easily a 9 for me this week. He seemed 100 % comfortable with contemporary and i loved it.
When they released the press announcement for the dances the celebs/pros were doing this week it said that Karamo/Jenna were doing a rumba. Between then and now I guess it got changed to contemporary. I think that’s why there is confusion.
HANNAH’S DANCING TO CARRIE UNDERWOOD
I liked Hannah okay in the beginning, but I’m not into her anymore. Something about her just seems like she’s going through the motions of being there.
I wasn’t that wowed by her dance, either.
@Jady, okay thanks! At least I know I’m not crazy thinking Karamo had a rumba. Maybe with the story he went with this week, they figured contemporary was better.
When your tv stops working when Hannah is up…
Hannah and Alan were a blast to watch but at the same time I wanted more from it. Like more of an ending that was fun maybe? I’d give that dance a 9 also I’m over her “crazy year” thing.
Are they not having Most Memorable Year week this season, or did it already happen and I missed it?
Not a very good dance from Sailor, but considering how tonight’s going, I’m guessing it’ll still get all 8s.
I felt the same way about Sailors dance it was just meh to me. Like there was nothing wrong with it that I could see I was just bored
Sailor’s jive was fantastic! She is the underdog
That got the same score as Kate, and it definitely wasn’t as good. Not sure what the judges saw, but I still think they are trying to make Sailor happen. Assuming Sean leaves tonight, I wonder how she’s going to fair in the line up with votes. It probably helps her that she has Val.
Sailor did great but in no way do I think that was 9 worthy. 8 I could see. Fun dance but I feel like it was more Val having fun than her.
All I could think about during Sailor & Val’s dance was Mark & Lindsey’s far superior dance to the same song just a few seasons ago. I kinda don’t think they should have used it again so soon.
I think one of the reasons some people are being scored higher than others is because they want they want S__ to go home. Plus Hannah has the lowest score so far but the judges would probably save Hannah over anyone except maybe James. And Hannah has a huge fanbase as well. Hoping S__ goes home, not someone good.
I love Lindsay’s dress.
Sean wasn’t as bad this week. I’d still give him a 6. Just trying to figure out why the 7s lol. Make him go out on a high?
Sean needs to go No improvement
I think Sean’s leaving. Two weeks in a row good, kind comments, high scores (for him). I think they are letting him leave on a high note.
Either that or trying to get people to feel he’s not being attacked or in danger.
I agree with what you said about Sailor’s dance. It kinda reminded me of Val’s jive with Elizabeth Berkley – not the execution, just the workout video steps. I thought her energy was good in the beginning, but when the song got into the chorus her energy dipped, and I just found her execution of the steps very basic. It was an average, basic dance. That was a 7 for me. With more energy and sharpness, it could have been an 8. I want to see her graduate from cute & smiley to fierce.
If someone good gets home, I’ll fully blame the judges.
Next to Kate, James’s samba was my favorite of the night. That was amazing. If that doesn’t get one 10, that’s crazy.
#tuttifruitybooty
Totally using that
James. Wow! That was ten if I was a Judge. A blast to watch and costumes on point. But lens comment had me rolling. I’m stealing that line.
If any dance deserves the first 10 of this season, it was James’s Samba. It deserved a better score than Sailor’s dance and had hip action that was miles ahead of Hannah’s Samba.
@Amanda, totally agree. I thought James was way better than Sailor.
Gleb’s choreography just does Lauren in. I wasn’t a fan of Karamo’s dance, but I thought his was better.
But I know the judges will love Lauren.
lauren and gleb…..got me this week. I feel like I finally saw her connect 100 percent to a dance (which is my major issue with her and karamo). I’d give that dance a 9. Costumes…..iffy one tbh. Might be my fav dance gleb has coreogrpahed actually since Jana and him to little shop of horors.
What a beautiful dance And wow that song is amazing
I guess I’m so used to seeing a 10 paddle at this point, because two weeks in a row I thought someone was getting one. Surprised Lauren didn’t get 9s across the board.
Lauren’s dance really spoke to me I lost my grandmother three years ago to breast cancer she was diagnosed in mid april and she passed away on may 1st. I was bawling my eyes out the entire dance it was so great
Of her to dance for him tonight and it was a really beautiful dance. Will definitely have to go buy that song on iTunes.
welpp a good dancer is going home.. I can’t believe Sean is safe
This is why I stopped watching the show it’s obvious producers and judges are biased and aren’t gonna make it a fair competition so why bother we all know who will be finale and I’m not putting myself through that. It’s only been a few weeks and judges are not scoring technically like they promised to so I’m over watching the only way to redeem the show is to bring the good choreographers back. Until Derek Mark and Julianne return which is likely never they lost me
This is an unfair bottom two. I cant believe this! You can just tell the judges are shocked
I was worried about Kate and Kel.
Sailor had to know she was going home. Ordinarily I’d be fine with that, but, considering whose still in it…I can’t believe Ally was also in the bottom 2. That blew my mind more.
Sailor knew there was no way she was getting saved.
Also, this is why, unless the judges have complete say, nothing is going to change with the voting format. Bobby still could have won with this same format last year.
what the…. omg. That ending. WHY WON’T SP!CE GO HOME! It should have been him. I’m going to have to start voting for everyone but him to get their votes up
I’m also upset I’m not getting an argetine tango out of Val this season because that is his best dance. I always look forward to them.
Ok Sean is living in very borrowed time with those judges now. Hope he enjoyed the nice comments because the gavel is coming soon score wise. This has to be the straw to break the camels back.
This is so unfair. Sean needs to leave not Sailor. They’re doing team dances next week which we all know he’s gonna screw up on.
Is Russia manipulating this vote too? Spicer should have went.
Kara I agree there’s no way this season will end well cause voting was not fixed as promised. The popularity contest still exists therefore this is one of the many upsets to be seen this season. If it’s the last season I wouldn’t complain tbh even tho I’ve watched since season 1
Neither of them deserved to be in the bottom 2. I feel like I am watching last season again where Bobby just kept pulling in the votes. Maybe the judges should score fairly. Lindsay’s partner is over scored. He got 1 point less than Hannah, Lauren and Ally from some of the judges. I just think of the scoring system they used in the first couple of weeks where they were truthful but harsh. It doesn’t make any sense.
Don’t act too shocked, Carrie Ann, when you gave 7’s to both of Lindsay’s partner’s dances.
I wasn’t voting for Sailor, but I’m still sad she left on that note.
Let’s have a bottom 8 next week and have the judges vote on who goes home, lol. Just shift the votes the following week.
Poor Sasha looked crushed. He seems to be having so much fun this season, with a real contender. But I’ve thought all along Ally would be a shocking boot this season. She’s lucky she wound up against Sailor this time.
When you have the president tweeting to vote for you every Monday what else can we expect. Jeez I dislike him.
Part of me wants to go back and reuse all the accounts I used last season to vote for Evanna. Use half of them to vote for Kate and the other half to vote for Ally and whomever is on the bottom with the liar. I used to be able to give Evanna at one point about 140 votes by the end of last season. Probably over 500 throughout the whole season, but idk if it would be enough. I’ll try next week to give Kate at least 75 votes and the other 50-70 to struggling couples. I really want to see this show thrive through another 5 seasons at least!
Also I hope the judges realize their decisions based in fear are now even more offed up because I’m certain they’ll get just as much backlash for Sailor’s elimination as they will if more stronger couples start getting eliminated.
I wasn’t a Sailor fan but it was hard to see her in tears. I felt she was finally enjoying it and neither deserved to be in the bottom. I hope next week is a double elimination for Halloween so hopefully we will be rid of Lindsay’s partner. If they do a bottom 3 maybe and the judges save one, maybe he will get eliminated.
Well ya’ll, I don’t know why they bothered to have the judges decide who should leave. It doesn’t seem to make any difference. The better dancers still leave, the worst ones stay and the good dancers end up in the bottom two. The idea of voting is to keep your favorites OUT of the bottom two because the judges can’t touch those who are safe. People somewhere out there haven’t grasped that. And I agree with some people here (Lynne #62 is right) and out there that this is all politics and no doubt, Trump is getting people to vote for Sean and I bet a small portion of his following are even watching DWTS! When you got a president who is really dominating and influencing this country in every way, what do you expect? And you know what? Sean could actually win DWTS. Ratings are even worst this season than last season, meaning there’s probably less people voting from the general public and more votes from fanbases and who on this season has a bigger fanbase and influence than Trump? We could be looking at a repeat from last season or in other words, Bobby Bones 2.0.
Honestly, I wasn’t that shocked about Sailor being in the bottom two. I didn’t feel the connection but I am surprised Ally was in the bottom two. The judges didn’t want to vote either one but they were forced to because they were in the bottom two and not anyone else, not even Sean. This is what happens when people don’t vote for their favorites! And clearly, so many people are voting for Sean because he’s never been in the bottom two.
Won’t there be memorable year night this season?😬
Thank you for not posting my comment. It was in a moment of anger, but I can agree with not posting it. However maybe bring it up in the Private Members Area?
Lynne, totally agree!
And this is why they should not have had someone with political ties on this season (or frankly any other season in the future!) Even tho I don’t watch Lindsay’s partner, it is hard to ignore the aftermath & aura that has permeated the show from this casting ‘choice.’
Adding to the mess are the judges’ scores which don’t reflect what is actually happening on the dance floor.
I have no idea is why they put Ally in the bottom two. Is she’s having less voters?
Sailor and Ally should have been in the finale not the bottom 2. If Sean with 777 beats Sailor with 999 then we are in for a bad season. Unless the voting pattern changes he will be in the finale and may even win. Of note something to think about, someone is voting for him so although we don’t like it he is very popular. So if you think about it from a show perspective, they are not that bothered that he is safe.
James’s Samba tonight best dance of the season by miles. A male celebrity dancing Samba like that is fantastic and Emma is truly a legend
For a long time I’ve wanted this show to have a “judges decision” type thing. I still think it’ll help, but this time it didn’t. I’m confused with the voting. Was it live voting and scores from last week? Does that mean only the east coast folks got to vote? Like I said, I’m confused. Regardless, the voting is wacked and it caused this BS.
Anyway, This isn’t surprising. It sucks, but I think a lot of us are used to this. It broke my heart to see Sailor ball her eyes out. Kudos to Val for being awesome to her.
I’m glad Ally is safe though. Once upon a time it was about the Derek’s, and Juliann’s and Maks’ and Mark’s and Val’s and Cheryl’s.. etc, etc. I’m all about Sasha and Emma now.
Ok, I saw where you asked, what is wrong with America, I have the Answer. The address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I forget who was on just a couple of seasons ago but they had ties to Dump, could not dance and got way farther than he ever should have. I’m on west coast time so I’m just now getting ready to watch it on tape. So far my head hasn’t exploded, but I’m sure once I see it with my own eyes I will throw a fit. Just hope I don’t throw anything at the tv. They need to do a lot more tweaking to the voting system. Say like letting the entire country vote. I don’t see how that is fair in any way, shape, or form.
I’m not a Val fan, but there is no way Sailor deserved to go tonight. She didn’t deserve to be in the bottom 2 and neither did Ally. How a person who barely moves and then clomps when he does is still around is mind boggling. The producers have a huge problem on their hands, because everyone left can dance circles around that guy without making much effort and to watch them eliminated while he isn’t is going to bite TPTB in the ass.
I’ve watched since season 4, but at this point, if the show was cancelled I wouldn’t be upset. Viewers were cheated last season with the way it ended and it looks like it’s headed that way again.
A bottom two like what we saw tonight with Sailor and Aly shouldn’t have happened for two more weeks, under normal circumstances. Neither of them should have been in the bottom two tonight and Sailor should not have gone home.
The problem is more with casting than with the voting system. TPTB should have known that by casting Lindsay’s partner, he would be getting votes from viewers who are voting for him because of who he is or that they share the same political party or that they voted for and support his former boss. Of course, with DWTS being popular in the media markets whose voters helped to elect Lindsay’s partner’s former boss, TPTB were also looking for more viewers.
If there is a next season, TPTB should follow the advice Tom gave to the producers before the casting decisions were made for this season and not cast any polarizing or controversial people.
I’m afraid Lindsay’s partner is becoming Bobby Bones version 2.0 and as long as his former boss continues to tell people on social media to vote for him, and the votes for him keep coming each week, this will be the final nail in the coffin for the show,
The face that Sailor made in her jive was kinda like when Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes makes his fake smile in school photos.
And you know what’s fun to pretend? That the laser beams in Lindsay’s dance are real, and that not everybody might make it through them!
Val left before woody. Best news today!
I went back and watched Kel/Witney’s dance to see if I could see the mistake Len was talking about. There was one spot where I think maybe it happened, but it was hard to tell, so I don’t know why he made such an issue about it. It was barely noticeable, and didn’t seem to affect he dance any.
OK I guess you could explain Sailor being in the bottom by the fact that she might not have the name recognition or fan base of some of the others. I don’t follow the group but considering the way Harmonizers voted for Normani I would have thought Ally would have the kind of support to get her at least to the semis.
Whatever one’s opinion of SS like Bobby Bones or Grocery Joe before him the guy just can not dance. I still vote but I don’t watch the show live anymore. If DWTS hopes to have ANY credibility they can not keep hanging on to the lousy dancers and expect to keep people watching live or otherwise.
I am consistently voting James by now, occasionally Hannah. I was so hoping Sean would have hit his expiration date last night. But I guess we are stuck with him, kicking off superior dancers so we can watch his nonsense, with the judges praising God knows what.
Lauren got on my nerves last night. If Tom hadn’t sent Gleb over to get her, she would still be standing there hugging her mother. I’m just hard-hearted I guess.
Sailor’s elimination last night reminded me of Willow’s a few seasons back. She just doesn’t have the fan base as some of the other contestants, which is unfortunate because she is a good dancer and performed quite well.
As for having a political contestant on the show, this isn’t the first time someone with less ability has moved forward and much bettter dancers were sent home. For example: Bristol Palin. She constantly received low scores, yet made it to the finale the first season she was a contestant and came in third place.
@danaw ok seriously that was rude, she was emotional because it was literally the date to the year of her step dads death, she was obviously close to him and it was a very raw emotion. Of course she is going to want to hug her mom! I bet if this had been ally or Hannah or Kate or insert any other female contestant here you wouldn’t care.
It’s not even close to the same as when Bristol was on the show. Besides, Bristol wasn’t a great dancer, but she was far better than SS. She also had Mark Ballas as a partner.
It’s not that Sailor doesn’t have a fanbase – I’m sure Ally does and she was still in the bottom two. The problem is mathematical, as I’ve been saying a season and a half now. The show is at an all time low in the ratings, from a high once upon a time of more than 20 million viewers, to around 6 million viewers. When people in general – meaning the average viewer with no dog in the hunt – are smaller in number and much more casual about the show, meaning they don’t vote much, anyone with a fanatical fanbase is going to have an edge. They will vote no matter what, and they make up an over sized share of the dwindling audience. That didn’t used to be the case.
Combine that with the INABILITY of the judges to actually score the dance and not the “effort” and the “improvement” and you are guaranteed a trainwreck. There is no way on god’s green earth that Lindsay’s partner should have gotten a 19 for his quickstep last week. They had no problem giving bad scores to Lamar and Karamo for their dancing, but not to S___. Gee, what is the difference between the first two and the latter man? Hmmm…let me think.
So, combine a smaller number of average viewers/voters with judges who will hand out an A for effort and you get Bobby Bones. Or SS. But not a dancer in the winners circle.
Jazzyjen, leave off the casting of aspersions. Disagree and leave it at that. Or else.
I was so sad for Sailor. It’s been the first time I really liked one of Val’s partners and HIM too!!!
My faves last night: James & Emma and Gleb & Lauren!!
And Heidi, well done. I especially loved your number updates through out.
I liked the opening scene with the “wildcat” and Len being the only one that could handle it, but I also thought it was a touch of irony that the one that hates “mucking about” at the beginning of a dance was mucking about at the beginning of the episode. LOL.
I feel like the judges, by giving S higher scores, were trying to fool his fans into maybe not voting for him as much. You know, trying to diffuse the whole “The judges are trying to tank him. We must vote more for him!”
I am also hoping that seeing Sailor and Ally in the bottom two will wake people up to vote more. Honestly, last night was the first time I voted this season, and I voted for Ally and Kate. I’m hoping more people will vote more, to offset the votes for S. Sailor was middle of the road and I didn’t think she was a better dancer than James, Kate or Ally. And I really like Karamo and Kel, who both have charisma. I wasn’t completely bummed out last night with it being Sailor. But I did feel bad for her. She was devastated.
The judges have no business being shocked. How many season have they been on this show without giving any thought to how they score the dancers relative to each other?? Morons.
The judges should know by now that their giving pity scores to someone they hope is going home is stupid. That has never worked. Not in years, anyway.
TPTB really need to look at what they’ve done. They have a situation far worse than last season about to explode. Yes, viewership is way down and they cast someone hoping to get viewers back. However, in my opinion, they have lost way more viewers that have been fans of the show since the beginning doing this than they’ve gained by casting someone controversial. This is supposed to be Dancing With The STARS and this guy is not a star. And he wouldn’t be no matter who his former boss was. Viewers look at past tv/movie/music/sports people as stars. I’m sure there are a lot of stars that would love to do this show, but they cast someone they knew without a doubt would be an issue. Viewers have been tired of the manipulation and blatant favoritism for years and now add someone winning that in absolutely no way deserves it is the perfect scenario for cancellation. And they have no one to blame but themselves.
@Jim, I 100% agree with you and PH you’re right. Bristol was not the best on her season by any means, she didn’t deserve to get as far as she did, but she was a far better dancer than this guy. Mark got her to move and do some form of the dance each week. This guy stands around with Lindsay doing the dance, if he does move, it’s to flail his arms in the air or stomp around.
I’ve said numerous times I’m not a fan of Val’s, but Sailor didn’t deserve to leave last night. My heart broke for her seeing her cry. And this is what’s going to happen every week. He’s not going to find himself in the bottom 2 because people will keep voting to keep him. I fear even if there was a double elimination at some point he would still be safe, especially if they announce it at the start of the show. It would have to be announced at the end when elimination is done or the show would lose 2 good dancers.
This is the perfect example of TPTB ruining a good thing that should have been left alone. It’s happening to a lot of show, not just this one. They need to listen to the old saying, “it if isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”
I agree with Cindy. This show and this whole reality competition genre are being messed around with by their producers far too much.
They can do a judges’s save and focus on technique all they want, but if the scores don’t reflect the dancing it isn’t going to do anything.
It’s not about the scores, bc if it was Sean would be in the bottom two. As well as Bobby Bones and many other people over the years who were always at the bottom, but people voted for them bc they liked them. Yes, Sean has the worst technique, but he has a great attitude and a very clever partner who can choreograph dances to make him look good(which is her job). Also he’s more well known than Sailor, he’s a controversial character & he has a larger fanbase. Even though the technique was poor, he actually looked really good & charming in his suit, the outfit choice & lighting favored him & she was smart with choreography. People know what his level is, but they expect more from Sailor & Ally bc they’re more capable. They both have been blending in, not standing out as much as the others. Sailor is wonderful, but the choreography combined with the execution, even though she had a smile on her face the whole time, was just basic & bland… She got nines and she still went home. Because the show is rigged? No. Because not enough people felt like voting for that routine… And I thought 9 was overscored btw.
And Ally got unlucky with a boring song, boring costume choices & mistakes…
Some people got lucky bc they got contemporary, Kel had a great dance last week, which has given him momentum & he had a better QS than Ally…
The thing is: if Sean is safe, EVERY elimination will be a shocking elimination. I actually wasn’t shocked by this one. With him safe, looking at the dances last night and overall, that would’ve been my bottom 2 also.
TO #77 Your comment of “Val left before woody. Best news today!” is so full of shit. This is a dancing show, Sean should of been out already. Just because you don’t like Val you shouldn’t want someone who can’t dance be out. Sailor was improving and she should still be there. I think it is a shame that people wanna vote for a pro and not the dancer. I personally think Val is fantastic !!
Val a has been old grump. He’s not good. Pasha’s better and he’s new
So judges marks are not that important, stars with a lower marks but with huge number of voters( not necessary fan base) can progress, but good dancer who constantly improving and getting top marks can be voted off.
I should be a better option to cut voters and only relay on judges marks.
I think this show needs new judges. I am tired of Carrie Ann and her bogus lift policy and then grumpy Len. I don’t even know about Bruno. The commentary and scoring is so biased and unfair. I think fresh eyes judging might also help change things up if there is going to be another season. I wish they had kept Artem instead of Gleb. He is a much better teacher and choreographer. I feel like this show is going down the toilet. @Princess Heidi I agree with you, big fanbases definitely have an edge.
I agree with # tammy The show does need new judges. I know alot of people vote for their favorites, but it is about dancing. I wish they would of kept Artem too, he would of been great with Lauren
Of course it’s about the scores, Maina. How long have you been watching this show? The votes and judges scores each count for 50%. If they overscore someone relative to other dancers IT MATTERS. And while I love Lindsay, her partner does not look good to anyone other than their ardent supporters.
What’s not fair is holding different dancers to a higher standard – it’s never been fair and they’ve always been stupid for doing it. If you’re not “capable” you get eliminated – that’s how the show works. You don’t get pity scores so others get eliminated before you.
I saw the results on week 6. I think this was all wrong. Sailor and Val were one of the top couples all 6 weeks. They shouldn’t have been eliminated. I think there was a reason for this. I read on The Internet that ABC TV brought Sean Spicer in to get up the ratings. I followed the D.W.T.S. ratings for years. They use to have 22 !/2 million TV Ratings. They now have 6 !/2 million TV Ratings. I think they deliberately eliminated the 2 of them to keep Sean Spicer in. This would keep their ratings up. But, it didn’t work. Their ratings are still down. Also, I suspect something. I have noticed for years that the judges are reading off a sheet before they give scores some of the time. I wonder why they always did this? I suspect that they are told who is being eliminated and what to say when they are. I think the best way to beat this is that nobody votes on this contest. This will show them for what they are doing. Also, the whole structure of this contest has been wrong since the very beginning. Every couple should be doing the same dance as each other, each week. This would be more fairer. If you look on Channel 13, on America’s Ballroom Challenge, they show this all the time. This is the way a dance competition is done. I have given comments on here before about this contest. Some people reading this might remember my name. This comment comes from Steven Lantz of Brooklyn, New York.
