DWTS Season 25, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Happy Halloween!! I’m carving pumpkins at work on Monday, but hopefully home in time for the show. 🙂 Here’s a bit from the press release that might interest you:
In addition, the celebrities and their pros will be grouped into two teams – Team Monster Mash (team captain is Terrell Owens) and Team Phantom of the Opera (team captain Drew Scott) – with each performing a dance to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve. The two team captains were chosen because they had the lowest cumulative scores across the season, and they were given the chance to pick their teams in order to help boost their rankings with both the judges and viewers. The team dance scores will be combined with the celebrity’s individual dance scores for a final tally.
Er, seriously?? You have THREE Pasos yet everyone else has a different style? Why? And do these songs seem Halloween-y to you all?? Not really to me, but I guess it depends on the staging, etc.
Winners: The Paso people might be the winners, especially Lindsey since she gets to pimp her own song. 🙂 Frankie should be alright with Contemporary. I would guess that Cheryl can do a killer (pun intended) Tango but, man, can’t deal with that song.
Losers: A Jive to “I put a spell on you”??? Huh. I guess I’ll have to listen to it, but this doesn’t sound like a good plan. A Halloween Charleston? Again, huh. We’ll see.
ETA: And George is starting to get the dance order…Victoria is dancing first tonight. Just a reminder that in week 7, the dance order no longer means nearly as much. Although, since we still have 8 couples it’s NOT irrelevant.
Victoria Arlen and Val – Viennese Waltz (Song: “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron)
Dancing 1st
1-800-868-3413
Jordan Fisher and Lindsay – Paso Doblé (Song: “Animals” by Martin Garrix)
1-800-868-3406
Nikki Bella and Artem – Jive (Song: “I Put a Spell on You” by Bette Midler (“Hocus Pocus” version))
1-800-868-3409
Vanessa Lachey and Maks – Paso Doblé (Song: “Game of Survival” by Ruelle)
1-800-868-3412
Terrell Owens and Cheryl – Tango (Song: “Super Freak” by Rick James)
1-800-868-3411
Lindsey Stirling and Mark – Paso Doblé (Song: “Roundtable Rival” by Lindsey Stirling)
1-800-868-3407
Frankie Muniz and Whitney – Contemporary (Song: “Every Breath You Take” by Chase Holfelder)
1-800-868-3405
Drew Scott and Emma – Charleston (Song: “Remains of the Day” by Danny Elfman)
1-800-868-3404
Team Monster Mash
Team Phantom of the Opera
Team Drew and Team Terrell – already discussed quite a bit in Courtney’s post.
Love hocus locus to the point where it an all year round movie for me lol. Not a surprise that I literally tanned while watching that and “under wraps” this summer lol. It should be a fun jive. The only song I’m iffy on is Vanessa and maks but like last week a C brother gets a song better than they can choreogpah too. I think Val and Victoria’s song is kinda meh. The rest have great songs.
I thought Roundtable Rival would make a great song for a paso doble! So psyched to have Lindsey dancing to it!
I gotta say I am pleasantly surprised by the song choices this season. TPTB didn’t choose pure Halloween songs except Hocus Pocus (which to my surprise I guessed correctly from Nikki’s OTRC interview lol *pats self on back*) but, in all seriousness the only thing I’m worried about is it being a hot mess. Hopefully, they don’t go overboard with costumes and keep some things to the imagination. They didn’t go overboard with Disney Week, so I’m expecting a more refined Halloween Night.
Excited to see Artem’s jive choreo to the Hocus Pocus song. Been waiting for the show to do this song justice. I LOVE “Superfreak” for a tango and always choreograph one in my head whenever I see this song on Strictly or DWTS. Only thing is she did a tango with Drew Carey to this song and it was aright…so I hope she knocks it outta the park with choreo because Terrell can take it. Hope their tango TRICKS are good enough for Len to TREAT them with a TEN. lol
Lindsay and Jordan’s song is epic. Been waiting for DWTS to use it. So epic it might even overpower the dance and them, which is the only critique I can imagine CAI giving to them.
Lindsey and Mark’s YT video for that song is amazing. She is one TALENTED girl. I will be shocked if she doesn’t win this season.
The only song which is a dud and kinda bleh for me is Vanessa and Mak’s song. His pasos always BORE me.
Joy of joys another EDM Paso (Jordan). Drew will do well with Charleston, Emma has used Charleston choreo for him earlier on in the season and he did really well with it. I’m expecting a big comeback from him and Frankie with Contemporary. It’s a shame there aren’t many Halloween songs. At least Hocus Pocus is there although I don’t see Nikki being the best jiver. Wonder if Cheryl can continue the TO transformation for another week.
Is it going to be a difficult week for Frankie considering that he has contemporary but may not be able to do lifts? Looking forward to the paso trio!!
I’m really having a hard time with not feeling like Nikki &Artem are not getting screwed week after week BUT on the bright side they’re dancing with the best team
Besides Lindsey’s Paso, the dance I’m most looking forward to is TO’s team dance to Monster Mash. He has an amazing wing span and I’m so hoping someone drapes a flowing cape over those shoulders. TO has been rising to it lately. Hope he stays in a bit longer.
Have voted for Drew since the start but am getting the hint he may be out sooner than later. Frankie seems to have more people pulling for him, TO is improving more and Nikki has been getting better scores. (*sigh*)
Definitely super excited for Lindsey’s dance. Had always thought Roundtable Revival would make a great Paso. Can’t wait to see what creation Mark comes up with and I can see this being the dance where Lindsey plays her violin and Mark breaks out his guitar.
Excited for Nikki too, I love that song and wanted it as one of the team dances but I’ll take it being used in any form because it’s such an iconic (at least I’ve always thought it was) Halloween song. I don’t know how well Nikki will do with Jive but it’s a dance I’m looking forward to regardless. Also looking forward to TO, he’s grown on me so much to the point I’m really hoping he’s not going home Monday.
Drew should handle Charleston fine, it’s interesting having a song from Corpse Bride to a Charleston but *shrugs*. And I think Drew should be fine until semi finals. He seems to really be a fave with just about everyone I talk to about the show (most of who are in the demo) so I think he should be able to overcome the vote deficit he’s been faced with this week.
Frankie’s is the biggest head scratcher for me. Doesn’t scream Halloween to me but I guess we’ll see on Monday.
Brittany C, I was kinda confused by Frankie’s dance as well. The stylization of that song is kinda creepy so I’m guessing a vampire themed contemporary rising from the dead and trying to take Witney back into the underground lair and ending with a blood sucking vampire bite. Ok…this theme is getting to me. 🙂
Nikki rather foolishly said during their ET FB live interview a few weeks back that she hated jive/it was the dance she was least looking forward to. Artem tried to hide it but I can guess what he was thinking when she said that …so no surprise they now have jive. Chance to really screw them with scores to get rid of them for the following week if they don’t already leave on Monday, which I have suspicions about. I’m not happy about that at all – I’m still waiting for an Artem rumba!
I’ve wondered all season what the producers were going to do to raise the ratings and establish a stronger chance for Emmy nominations they lost this year – outside the technical categories. So far I’m not seeing much. Mark has definitely had a few good dances for choreography, but I can’t say they were better than some I saw on SYTYCD. There are still dances to go though.
Unfortunately for Mark, it’s not just SYTYCD (during which Travis choreographed another winner, as did a few others), it’s World of Dance.
What is the correlation between ratings and Emmy nominations? As far I see SYTYCD has been successful on one front but not the other.
I’m curious to see if Lindsey uses same theme from her wildly popular video. I think she’s going to be hard to beat Monday.
Rose1, I don’t think TPTB would want to use the same theme/prod/etc. from her video. It rings way too similar to Nick and Peta’s Wild West samba. Even the costumes looked like a rip off from Lindsey’s video. They probably got some elements from that for production value.
They may copy it by maybe using a saloon/bar/fight theme, but not sure about the other parts of the video which looked real similar to Nick and Peta’s production/theme.
I’m hoping they have Lindsey play the violin though. Maybe it’ll be a paso to see who can win over the violin and her and Mark will basically be doing a trio paso…where the third person in their paso IS the VIOLIN. How awesome would that be?
LOL Miss Heidi! I didn’t think many of the songs were Halloweenish either when I first read over them.
As for the dances, I am excited on Mark and Lindsay’s Paso the most. The creativity should be off the hook. Emn, I love your idea for it.
Most of the songs aren’t super Halloweenish so I expect a lot of imput from props, costumes and staging to nudge it into Halloween territory.
I do like Halloween night. It’s one of the few theme nights I really enjoy anymore.
I have high hopes for Cheryl&Terrell’s Tango to Superfreak.
Princess Heidi: I was wondering about WOD, too. So many amazing performances. As much as I love dwts, we are not seeing the same level of skill that we do on the other two dancing shows. I would give the Emmy to the couple who choreographed and danced to the cell phone song – genius.
That was Keone and Mari, Gunny – they are brilliant.
Any word as to whether Lindsey Stirling will be able to dance tonight? Just read on TMZ that she sustained a rib injury. Sure hope she doesn’t have to forfeit. That would be a terrible shame. She and Mark have been doing so well.
I love how Hocus Pocus has gained such a big and fun following over the years.
She’ll be fine LeannC. She’ll get given a ton of painkillers and power through. They just want to create some media buzz and drama for the show so of course they’ll drag it out for as long as possible. Apparently Lindsey was rehearsing for the team dance late last night, so she must have been given the green light to keep going.
Wow, Val/Victoria dancing 1st for the 2nd time this season. To me, I am thinking that Victoria has the votes to put her in the finals, so dance order doesn’t matter. Or that Victoria is being eliminated tonight, so might as well put her first to dance, as it will not matter. Or, Victoria is not being eliminated tonight, but TPTB want a C-Bro in the finals, and have figured out that Maks/Vanessa have a more likely chance to get there than Val/Victoria, so are now pimping Maks/Vanessa. I think I got that covered pretty well. LOL!
As far as Lindsey’s injury, TPTB always over dramatize injuries of celebs and pro dancers. It’s all about publicity and ratings. Most of the time, the injury did happen, but not as bad as it was promoted to be. I remember the toe injury of Vanessa, and the big deal they made about that. You would think her toe got decapitated, the way it was over dramatized.
Anyway, looking forward to the Halloween theme tonight. It is one theme, I think DWTS pulls off pretty well.
I do remember Maria Menunous dancing with 2 broken ribs and broken toes as well as other celebrates having rib injuries, but still danced. I hope she and Mark can dance this evening. I am looking forward to their performance.
“I Put a Spell on You” and “Remains of the Day” could lend entertainingly to their assigned styles. “Every Breath You Take” is a tough act of follow after Bindi’s iconic Contemporary, yet this eerie electronic version is a very different angle that’s truer to the original (unnerving) intent of the song. I think the audience will have the most trouble associating “The Night We Met” with the theme.
Jordan’ll no doubt deliver a great Paso and with such anticipation of Lindsey’s, I hope nothing keeps her from doing her thing. Any intel on if this injury just happened or was sustained earlier in the week?
The TMZ article said the injury happened on Sunday.
There is a picture from Keo’s Instagram being circulated on Twitter showing Lindsey in make-up chair today. But could she be getting made up just to keep up appearances?
@M8 (#21) Where did you find out that Lindsey was rehearsing with her team last night?
I hope Lindsey is better, I hate when the contestants get hurt, especially the ones we look forward to watching. Jordan and Lindsay going second makes me a bit nervous for them, he’s been on the road a lot this week.
George gave the full dance order:
Victoria, Jordan, Nikki, Vanessa, Terrell, Lindsey, Frankie, Drew
then team dances, of course (but didn’t say which is first/last)
Thank you for the TMZ report, Cali. It is encouraging if she was indeed rehearsing after and in makeup today.
