Dancing with the Stars PRO WATCH – August 26, 2010

Written by: Princess Heidi

ETA: TOLD YOU guys if I left something would happen!! Even something simple like Derek tweeting about the new season and then “high five” – which I’m forced to take as an “I’m in” since I’m unlikely to get anything else. :-) Anna retweeted him with a wink, Tony is packing his children in suitcases…well, that’s about enough right? I’m going to update the status a bit, below.

Well, these darn pros are being unusually mysterious and close-mouthed – except for Lacey who blares it to the world as soon as she finds out she’s back on the show. Ever occur to her, you think, that the reason she was being marginalized might just be her MOUTH?? ANYway, there have been a few hints (Kym, Tony and Mark) and not much else that I can see. I’ve updated the status based on smilies and apparent upbeat behavior. That makes me irritated. :-)

Chelsie Hightower – probably in
Cheryl Burke – Unknown – I assume yes
Edyta Slwinska – Unknown
Lacey Schwimmer – IN
Anna Trebunskaya – Probably In
Anna Demidova – OUT
Karina Smirnoff – Possibly In
Kym Johnson – Unknown, but tweeted she’s very excited and happy.
Ashly Costa – Probably out – tweeted “me too” to Jonathan.
Julianne Hough – OUT (Footloose)

Alec Mazo – Unknown
Derek Hough – Excited about new season and high fiving – saying IN.
Louis Van Amstel – Unknown
Mark Ballas – I bet In, tweeted he got good news today
Maks Chmerkovskiyi – Unknown, I bet In
Damian Whitewood – OUT
Dmitry Chaplin – OUT
Jonathan Roberts – OUT
Tony Dovolani – I bet in, he’s been tweeting very happily.

Baring bizarre-ness, I think the men are set at: Derek, Mark, Louis, Maks, Tony and Alec. I, like others, am having a bit of a hard time figuring Alec’s inclusion at Damian or Dmitry’s expense. I can’t figure it, actually. Makes me wonder if we have someone new who managed to keep it on the DL. OR, are we having five men and SEVEN women??

The women are a mystery – I have no clue what’s going on here besides the likely inclusions of Cheryl, Karina and Chelsie along with Lacey. Probably Kym is in based on her recent tweet. But, it’s really hard to tell. I think these women are actually much better at keeping secrets than the men. Well, except for Derek – he’s the freakin’ master of silence these days. Brat. :-) I find his silence just as annoying as Lacey’s mouth, if I’m being completely honest. :-)

I’m afraid to leave. You know someone will tweet that they’re in as soon as I go do something else. Just to spite me. ;-)

DWTS Season 11 PRO WATCH – August 25, 2010

Written by: Princess Heidi

As of this writing, Lacey is back in and Damian is out. Boo, Damian didn’t have a chance. And I do like cute blonds. :-) I think I’m going to call Karina as in, but she keeps tinkering with her website so I don’t know what to make of her changes. She made it sound like she was on, then she changed it again. I hope she didn’t get cut for Lacey. Sorry Lacey fans, I like Karina better. Personal preference.

Chelsie Hightower – probably in
Cheryl Burke – Unknown
Edyta Slwinska – Unknown
Lacey Schwimmer – IN
Anna Trebunskaya – Unknown
Anna Demidova – OUT
Karina Smirnoff – Possibly In
Kym Johnson – Unknown
Ashly Costa – Probably out – tweeted “me too” to Jonathan.
Julianne Hough – OUT (Footloose)

Alec Mazo – I bet out
Derek Hough – Probably In
Louis Van Amstel – Unknown
Mark Ballas – Unknown
Maks Chmerkovskiyi – Unknown
Damian Whitewood – OUT
Dmitry Chaplin – OUT
Jonathan Roberts – OUT
Tony Dovolani – Unknown

Now I’m wondering if Alec is indeed IN, because if you do the math and there really are 12 couples they have to have Alec or add a new male pro. The women are much more in flux – harder to say what’s going on there.

DWTS Season 11 Pro Watch – Lacey’s Back ON!

Written by: Princess Heidi

Something happened behind the scenes and now Lacey’s back on the show! Someone in the comments made a wish and it apparently came true. :-)

That’s all for now – more later if there are any new developments. I have a really juicy rumor about a possible female star – trying to determine if it’s a hoax or not. ;-) And no, I’m not talking about Kirsty Alley.

DWTS Season 11 PRO WATCH – August 24, 2010

Written by: Princess Heidi

And as most of you know, Anna Demidova is out. I’m afraid I saw that one coming a mile away. I guess she just didn’t make enough of an impact on the show and, at the point she joined up, making an impact was relatively important. Some of these pros are stars in their own right – like it or not, you purists. :-) Where do we stand on the rest of them? Well…

Chelsie Hightower – probably in
Cheryl Burke – Unknown
Edyta Slwinska – Unknown
Lacey Schwimmer – OUT
Anna Trebunskaya – Unknown
Anna Demidova – OUT
Karina Smirnoff – Possibly In
Kym Johnson – Unknown
Ashly Costa – Probably out – tweeted “me too” to Jonathan.
Julianne Hough – OUT (Footloose)

Alec Mazo – I bet out
Derek Hough – Probably In
Louis Van Amstel – As of today, doesn’t know yet.
Mark Ballas – Unknown
Maks Chmerkovskiyi – Unknown
Damian Whitewood – Unknown
Dmitry Chaplin – OUT
Jonathan Roberts – OUT
Tony Dovolani – Unknown

Apparently, DWTS says there are 12 contestants this season, so it looks like the men are set, unless there is a new pro we aren’t aware of. And it’s always possible they could exchange Louis with Alec if some of the women are too tall. If the 12 is true, it looks like all the women are set too, assuming that Ashly was saying she’s not on this season and Jackie Josephs isn’t on.

DWTS Season 11 – PRO WATCH

Written by: Princess Heidi

:-) Today’s the day when they start finding out. Today’s the day I haunt Twitter more than ever – usually. Today I was outside most of the day and am sunburned. :-) But here’s what I found when scanning twitter. I’ll post more info as it becomes available.

First up, Miss Chelsie Hightower. Now, I’m thinking Chelsie is almost a lock for this season. For one thing, she was on Extreme Makeover Home Edition with Derek and I think everyone who did that show has a better than even chance of being back. Secondly, Chelsie tweeted earlier, in response to Ashly Costa, that she didn’t know yet – this was like 17 hours ago. Then, a few hours ago she tweeted “Leaving SLC – won’t be back until November”. Now, when I tried to find this tweet I couldn’t because I think she deleted it. I did find where a fan retweeted it saying how glad she was that Chelsie was back on the show. Well, either Chelsie realized she was giving a wrong impression, or she spilled some beans she wasn’t supposed to – you pick. You could tell the fan that’s not what you meant – or you could delete the tweet and hope no one else (Like me :-) ) saw it.

Next – Dmitry Chaplin. Dmitry tweeted this earlier and he hasn’t taken it down. He doesn’t strike me as the arrogant type who would assume he’s back (especially since he wasn’t last season), so I take this as a confirmation. Ya know Dmitry is not my favorite – I find him too quiet and kinda boring. But after the behavior of a couple pros who shall remain nameless (for now), I’m definitely glad if he’s back. :-)

The only other clues I have right now are the Extreme Home Makeover pros – Derek, who stayed nearly all week, Anna T, Chelsie, Tony and Mark. I have to think that they will be back, since they are on that show, but I could be way off base of course. Plus, Derek was at the studio for no known reason a week ago. Hmmm…you be the judge.

NOTE 1 – People, just because MSN says Julianne is back this season, doesn’t mean she really is. She’s NOT – she’s filming Footloose in Atlanta and she’s said straight up that she’s not back. Do we need to have the conversation about not believing something just because you see it in print from a supposedly reliable source??

NOTE 2: A little bird (who’s first initial is C) tells me that Jackie Josephs has moved to LA. :-) Just sayin’. Is this her Twitter? If it is, she’s following and talking to some interesting people. ;-)

Dancing with the Stars – Who Wore It Better, Part III

Written by: Princess Heidi

As promised, here is your third weekly installment of our continuing analysis of reused costumes on the show. :-) While the first 2 editions dealt solely with costumes reused in season 10, this one is a mixed bag of dresses going as far back as season 5 – proof that if the folks at Randall are reeeeally having a hard time selling a costume to the public, some lucky/unlucky pro or celeb may get the privilege/punishment of having to wear it a second (or sometimes third!) time. Read and discuss!

Oh, and P.S. – we’re trying hard to do a guys’ edition of Who Wore it Better, but it’s proving to be really, really hard…so if you know of any dittos, please let us know, and please at least look up pictures or find them on youtube to ensure they are, in fact, the same costume – some of the ones that have been brought up to me are really just similar (but not identical) pieces.  ;-)

Battle of the black, silver-spangled Latin dress: Melissa’s cha-cha with Tony in season 8 vs. Kym in the ladies’ pro dance opener in season 9
Courtney: As an aside, I really didn’t care for that opening dance that the season 9 pro ladies did – it felt a little low-energy and kinda like it was just thrown together at the last minute to fill space (lord knows why). That probably explains why Kym just doesn’t look quite as “finished” in it as Melissa does – love the fedora and jewelry that really ties it together on her. Both gorgeous ladies with fabulous bodies – but I’m giving it to Melissa for having a little bit of extra “oomph”.
Heidi: Boy, this is a tough one! I do agree about the ladies pro dance – very messy, disjointed. As for the dress…not sure how I feel about the fedora on Melissa – it almost feels like overkill, what with the choker and the bracelets and the earings AND the hat. Who was the famous actress that said she always took one thing off before she left the house? This could have been done here to better effect. She needs to lose something from the head/neck area. That said, Kym is the opposite extreme – too minimalist. And really, those pro dances are the opening numbers so there’s really no excuse for it except maybe laziness.
The winner: Melissa, by a choker.

Battle of the short, red, fringed, Latin dress w/matching belt: Karina in the Michael Jackson tribute in season 9 vs. Julianne’s cha-cha with Helio in season 5
Heidi: Again, two beautiful girls who can wear just about anything. If I have to pick I have to go with Karina because of how well she can wear red. Jules wears it well too, but it looks better on Karina. Have to agree with Courtney, below, also – Jules’ hair is too severe.
Courtney: Now as adorable as Jules tends to look in pretty much anything she wears, I think I actually like this one better on Karina – it could be the lighting, but I think the red looks better against her skin than it does Julianne’s, who looks a bit more washed-out. Also prefer Karina’s loose curls to Julianne’s bump-it updo. I hate those damn things!!!
The winner: Karina, by the skin of her…skin.

Battle of multi-colored, neon-fringed Latin dress: Jewel’s would-be preseason photo shoot with Dmitry in season 8 vs. Misty’s mambo with Maks in season 7
Courtney: Ok, I’m putting it out there – this dress is cursed and should probably be burned due to bad karma. Misty donned it for a mambo; two weeks later she withdrew with a devastating Achilles’ tendon injury. Jewel wore it for her promo photo shoot; not long after she was sidelined with 2 fractured tibias and had to be replaced with Holly Madison. And really, this dress is just tacky with a capital T. I loathe neon – especially multiple shades of it on the same dress – and I particularly loathe it when it’s fringe. Blech. Nobody wins in this one!
Heidi: Have you noticed that Maks has a fondness for multicolored, bright, tacky dresses? It’s weird, because then he puts Joanna in a classy beautiful dress – which I’m going to credit to Derek since the design is done early in the week and Maks has a bad track record. :-) But yes, this is one nasty dress and they seem to pair it with bad hair and OTT jewelery.
The winner: Do you see any winners here? I sure don’t.

Battle of the two-piece, tri-color ruffled & feathered Latin dress: Joanna’s preseason photo shoot with Derek in season 9 vs. one of the dancers in the Tiempo Libre performance in season 9 vs. Kym’s samba with Warren in season 7
Heidi: Okay, I’ve decided that I don’t like multicolored dresses. Too, too much. But like every other possible article of clothing, Joanna can pull it off. Partly confidence, partly issues with her competitors, like Courtney says below.
Courtney: Poor Kym & unidentified Tiempo Libre performer – it’s really hard to hold a candle to Joanna in, well, pretty much any costume. And I daresay she rocks what would be an otherwise rather awkward dress pretty damn well – having a fab figure and a great spray tan doesn’t hurt, either. Kym looks a little pasty in the sunset color scheme; the costume just looks kinda loose on the brunette from Tiempo Libre.
The winner: Joanna, by default.

Battle of the silver-fringed, super-sparkly, cut-out Latin dress: Mya’s preseason photo shoot with Dmitry in season 9 vs. Lil Kim’s cha-cha with Derek in season 8
Courtney: Ok, observation: the lighting in the pre-season shoots never seems to do justice to some of these dresses the way the lights of the dance floor do. This is no exception – the dress just glows on Kim, while it barely reflects any light on Mya. Plus Mya’s pose just looks awkward to me – really kinda surprised they picked that one as her best shot. The dress seems to be wearing Mya, rather than the other way around. Kim DOMINATES this dress!
Heidi: Kim dominates everything. It’s all about confidence and attitude and Kim has plenty of both!! Both dresses were used early on too, so that’s not a reason. It’s weird too, because Mya was a trained dancer – I would expect a more confident stance from her even that early.
The winner: Kim by a ‘tude. :-)

Battle of the blue-fringed & stoned Latin dress: Shawn’s samba with Mark in season 8 vs. Natalie’s preseason photo shoot in season 9
Heidi: Not a fan of this dress, really. I think it looks better on Shawn but only because she’s moving. Hate her hair and think they went overboard on the make up though. Natalie is fine in it and she has a beautiful smile. But I have to give it up to Shawn.
Courtney: Another instance where photo shoot lighting doesn’t do a girl any favors, and neither does standing still – this dress doesn’t look nearly as impressive on Natalie as it does on Shawn. I wouldn’t say it necessarily looks BAD on her, but it’s just kinda…blah.
The winner: Shawn, for not being a statue.

Battle of the long, dark blue, corseted paso dress: Brooke, Kym, & Cheryl in the team paso doble in season 7 vs. Kelly’s preseason photo shoot with Louis in season 9
Courtney: 4 very different ladies, one dress. Poor Cheryl – everything costume they made her wear in season 7 just seemed to look mediocre, and unfortunately this is no exception. I think what bothers me about Brooke wearing it is her expression – it’s supposed to be aggressive, but to me it looks more confused…so she’s out, too. Kym looks decent in it, but I really love Kelly in this one – the dramatic feel of the dress seems to suit her personality well, and looks good with her coloring.
Heidi: Love, love, LOVE this dress. It’s probably one of my favorites ever on the show. Love the color, love the corset, love the flowy skirt. Love. As for who wears it best? Well, not Cheryl, for reasons stated. She doesn’t look horrible in it, she just doesn’t hold up as well as her competitors. The thing I remember about this dress is Kym’s fierce face during the dance with Warren, and how beautifully they all pulled this dance off. I think the dress brought out the right attitude in all the women. Kelly? Yeah, I love it on her too. If I have to pick a winner, I’ll go with a tie between Brooke and Kym, mainly because of my fond memories of that dress.
The winner: Kelly, because Heidi can’t pick just one.

DWTS – Did He REALLY Say That??? The Tony Dovolani Edition

Written by: Princess Heidi

Our Pros, Celebrities, Judges and Hosts often say things that perhaps, from a professional standpoint, they shouldn’t. Sometimes they’re funny, sometimes they’re experiencing foot-in-mouth disease, sometimes they’re aggravating, sometimes it’s just none of their damn business. Courtney and I thought it would be fun to take some of these comments and discuss them, under the heading of “People say the Silliest Things”. Plus, some of us miss DWTS when it’s not on – this will be something to talk about. :-)

First up, Tony Dovolani, in People Magazine Online:

“I enjoyed every bit of last season — well, most of it, I mean,” Tony Dovolani, who partnered with controversial contestant Kate Gosselin last season, told PEOPLE at the ESPY Awards Wednesday in L.A. “Next season I would like to have a more able partner, someone who doesn’t have so many distractions in their life. The producers know how I feel.”

Heidi: Oh, Tony, there are many things wrong with this statement, if remotely accurate. First off, some pros were not fortunate enough to even get a partner, let alone one that you (hopefully inadvertently) imply is disabled. Complaining about Kate – no matter how horrible she was (and she was horrible – no mistake) probably seems like Paris Hilton complaining about her new house only having 5 bathrooms to people like Dmitry, Lacey, Kym and others. And you know what, Jonathan is only sporadically on this show and he ALWAYS has a worse partner than you’ve had. Geez, you were on the cover of freakin’ PEOPLE magazine!! Besides, even slight disses against a former partner, no matter how true, strikes me as very unprofessional – and saying “the producers know how I feel” sounds arrogant. Not to mention the producers probably remember that you just took Melissa Rycroft to the final two seasons ago – more than Jonathan can say.

And then we have this gem: E!’s Awful Truth

While dishing all the goss with the Dancing with the Stars crew recently, Tony had no problem telling it like it is about Jake Pavelka and Vienna Giardi’s recent “juvenile” break up: “It was such great TV I couldn’t help but watch,” Dovolani recently joked about Jake and Vienna’s ABC special. “Wow, wasn’t that a train wreck or what? My wife and I kept looking at each other like ‘Is this really happening’,” Dovolani reiterated. “But it was great TV. Thank you!”

Courtney: Ooh wee. Now while I agree wholeheartedly with our Albanian friend that the very public, very messy demise of Jake & Vienna rivaled some of the train-wreckery previously known only to various VH1 dating series (again, I reiterate: “Can we please get a poly-a-graph test here?!” only reinforces to me that Vienna should have been cast on Rock of Love XXVII instead of The Bachelor), Tony, honey, there are definitely things that could be said with a little more tact – or in this case, not at all. So much for the alleged camaraderie of the season 10 cast (which was tenous at best), and the reasonably classy reputation that the majority of the pros tend to keep in the media. It would honestly not surprise me in the slightest if some of the pros from this season were conveniently not able to participate next season due to “lack of celebrities to match well with” – if they can sit Kym out for a season for holding out for more money, I wouldn’t put it past the producers to punish some of the more mouthy pros by not asking them back for season 11. And without getting into detail, as far as relationships go – I don’t think most of the pros on the show are in any position to be giving out opinions on relationships – there’s been enough tabloid fodder about some of them (who shall remain nameless ;-) ) to make Jake & Vienna’s split look downright civil. Just sayin’…

Heidi: Isn’t it weird that the very YOUNGEST pro on the show is the one who has shown the most tact when asked about Jake and Vienna? Chelsie was asked a direct question and, from what I saw, left it at a “could see it coming” type thing. But Courtney…you left out the best (worst?) parts of this E! thing!!

“Honestly, not my worries,” Dovolani dished to us when we asked him what he thought of the recent Kate Plus 8 investigation. “I haven’t stayed in touch with her, she hasn’t stayed in touch with me. I needed a break and I got a break—which was awesome—with my family.”

Aside from persuading “Tone-dog” to team up with Lindsay Lohan on the next season of DWTS, the babe told us he’s had it with one group of so-called celebs allowed on the ABC hit.

“I think we’ve had enough Bachelors on our show,” T.D. ‘fessed.

As for whether he’s ready to give the boot to all reality TV celebs? He said the ban doesn’t have to go that far.

“As long as they have followers I guess they are stars.”

Heidi: Well, provided that Tony is accurately quoted here, I don’t really know what to say. Dude, it just seems to me that taking direct shots at the producers in public is not really the road to job security. I could be wrong – but this is a show that has 16 to 20 pros already in the stable and they’re likely to only go with 11 to 13 stars again. Do you want to take chances?? I mean, Derek is possibly out for Season 11 (who can tell, he may never leave the bedside of a certain malaria ridden, Brit pop princess), but as far as I can tell the rest of the gang is eager to dance with a star. As far as stars to match YOU, well, there’s Maks (who is being rather circumspect right now) and Dmitry. And I KNOW Dmitry wants back on the show. He’s tweeted as much. Dude, what ARE you doing?? Even if the producers don’t care, I’ve seen several articles about your comments with the word “me-ow” included, not to mention “thrown under the bus” and other indications that we’re not alone in thinking these weren’t the wisest words you’ve ever spoken.
