Dancing with the Stars Season 21 THE FINALE Night Two – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Who’s going to win!! Not too much longer till we find out. 🙂

Because it’s the finale, it’s really important you remember the rule below:

NOTE: DO NOT POST ONE LINER COMMENTS AND CONTINUALLY REFRESH THE PAGE!! It’s the finale – breaking the rules might get you temporarily banned. The traffic is too high for this. Please walk away from the computer for a few minutes after commenting so others have a chance without the site shutting down. Thx.

T-minus 30 minutes…

LOVED the opening number. Made me get in the Christmas spirit.

Alfonso is rooting for Bindi…and the staging in the Ballroom is hopeful. Don’t disappoint me DWTS.

Holy crap, this show is two hours long?? CRAP.

Kim and Hayes seem like eons ago, actually.  She has less rhythm than I remember. Music is live since the just screwed it up.

I still love you, Victor, you little ball of fun hips. 😀

Haha Tom Bergeron!!

Hayley makes a damn good Maryanne.

That “Carlos, yer gonna die, hahaha” from Alek KILLS me every time. 😀

I see two male pros that I don’t recognize, and one female earlier. Who are these people?

So, Victor redid his dance with the sombrero and it actually stuck this time. 🙂 But did he fall down? I turned away for one second. I was watching Bindi and Derek on All Access.

Andy Grammer singing “Right about now” – great job. Love that song.

Bwah – Gary made those outtakes. Then when his dance is starting him looking at Anna going “WHAT??”

LOVE THIS SONG “Xs and Os” I think it’s called?

Seems like Alexa and Mark’s Breaking Bad dance was danced with more confidence by Alexa this time around. I dug it.

Gary is the reason why little kids cry when they see Santa. 🙂 Loved that bit – Gary as Santa, Paula as Mrs Clause and Victor as an Elf. 🙂

Congrats to Mark Ballas and BC Jean! I think they have a hit on their hands. I’m seriously addicted to that song “Roses and Violets”.

Andy Grammer and Chaka Kahn?? Perfection.  And I love all the dancing going on on this finale – actual BALLROOM. Take notes Rob Wade – there is no reason the whole season can’t be like this.

Okay, the fusion.

First is Nick, who had a rough transition to Salsa and she didn’t really fuse the dances – they actually stopped right in the middle and switched styles.

But of course, Julianne is going to stand up and rave with OTT praise.  It’d give it a 28 or 29, but I imagine it will get a 30.

Lindsay: “Cuddle, cuddle, cuddle, let’s friken dance” LOL

Notice how Alek and Lindsay switched styles without stopping the dance? Pretty damn good. Better than Nick.

I suspect based on what Julianne just said, that they’re leveling the scores tonight, that whole “We have to remember this was 24 hours..”  Okay forget I said that, they just lowballed him. He actually danced better than Nick did.

Bindi makes me fucking cry in her package for a damn ChaCha AT!! This girl!! Unbelievable.

Nick actually has a very good singing voice. Like this song. Showing highlights from all three couples. Very nice.

THIRD PLACE – Alek Skarlatos. I think that 6 point deficit did him in.

And the winner is…

BINDI IRWIN!!!

I have to say, Bruno and Julianne lifted Bindi up…even Sharna and and Nick cheered for Bindi. And Bindi almost gives Tony a concussion with the Trophy.  I’m crying.

DWTS Season 21, Week THE FINALE – Dancing by the Numbers

Honestly, the finale Dancing by the Numbers is kinda irrelevant, but there might be someone who wants to read it, so I do it.

As often happens, the judges cop out in the finale and give everyone the same score except for Alek – and really, 9s were fair for him. Do I think all the freestyles were equal?? Hardly.  I would rank them 1) Bindi; 2) Alek; 3) Carlos; 4) Nick….but of course the scores don’t reflect that. And of course Nick got a perfect score for a jive that had some problems. :::sigh::: I should be used to this crap by now. The leaderboard?

DWTS Week 11 Table 1

Now by this point in the season, you all ought to know the story. But just in case you don’t…

DWTS Week 11 Table 2

What it comes down to is this: if Alek can’t cover the spread, it comes down to whoever gets the most votes – Bindi or Nick.

For Alek to win, he needs BOTH of the following things to happen:

  • Alek gets 12,700 more votes per million votes cast than Nick, AND;
  • Alek gets 12,700 more votes per million votes cast than Bindi.

He has to get BOTH things in order to win. Will he? It’s certainly possible. I would be bummed out by that, since I think Bindi is the better dancer, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

It’s a slightly easier road for both Bindi and Nick. To put it simply, for Nick to win, he needs BOTH of the following things to happen:

  • Nick needs for Alek to NOT get the 12,700 more votes per million votes cast than him, AND;
  • Nick needs to get ONE more vote per million votes cast than Bindi.

Same thing, essentially, for Bindi to win. She needs both of the following:

  • Bindi needs for Alek to NOT get the 12,700 more votes per million votes cast than her, AND;
  • Bindi needs to get ONE more vote per million votes cast than Nick.

It’s sorta that simple. Of course, they have the relay dance to practice tonight and then perform tomorrow. The question is, is there a point to it?? Or are the judges just going to score Alek lower and equalize Bindi and Nick whether they are equal or not (aka totally abdicating any real judging)?

If they give all of them the same score, the gutless wonders should just sit next season out. Let Len do it all. 😉 Then again, we shouldn’t be shocked – they’ve pulled this stunt many times over the years. Julianne being Derek’s sister just makes it worse. If they rank them, then I expect it will be Bindi, Nick Alek. Will that make a difference? Well, the skeptic in me says that the person who is going to win will be the high scorer in that dance, whether they deserve it or not. Why? Well, the judges like to be right AND/OR they won’t want to be accused of changing the outcome.

Of course, the other option is that one of them just blows away the competition to the point that the relay won’t change the outcome. We’ll have to save most of this discussion for Monday morning quarterbacking. That’s the way it is with a lot of the things that happen on DWTS – patterns and such are obvious once the season is over.

One of the things that happened last night that I don’t recall ever happening before is a change in the running order from one round to the next. So, what was the point to that? Why not just have Bindi go third in both rounds? Why the change? I’m not so sure it benefited Nick to follow Bindi, but going last in the finale has some advantages. It may not matter in weeks 6 through 10, but the finale has a lot of new viewers, typically.  Then he was the last guy standing with Carlos – another benefit.  It makes one wonder.  That’s some mild pimpage there – nothing like the last few seasons, but still.

Okay, enough blather. What’s going to happen?

Well, any of the three could win.  What do I think? My gut still says Bindi, but my gut is quivering. 🙂 I’m just not sure. When WAS I sure? Well…with Kellie I was pretty sure. Donny Osmond? Sure. JR? Sure. Kristi? Sure.  Hines, Donald, Meryl, Alfonso, Rumer? All sure…or pretty sure.

Here’s the problem. ALL of the conventional wisdom says that Nick should win. That Nick will win. And a large part of my brain still thinks he will win. But Bindi…I don’t know if there’s ever been a contestant like Bindi the Ray of Sunshine. And of course, Alek comes on the show right at a time of global upheaval. These three people make it a very difficult call because all three have a strength: Bindi is the best dancer and the heart of the show; Nick is the ringer, boybander with a huge fanbase; Alek speaks to our patriotism and a good bit of fear transformed to hope.

Which of the three is strongest? I’m still feeling Bindi. But I wouldn’t be shocked if either of the other two take it. I’d be bummed, but not shocked.

Dancing with the Stars Season 21 THE FINALE Night One – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Okay all – this is it. The end of another season. Don’t know what’s going to happen, but I hope the dancing is good.

T-minus 30 minutes…

Here we go…our male pros wearing far more clothing than most of them are used to. 🙂

Carlos foxtrot started out looking like an AT or something, with the walk, the pose, the colors. Wonder if it counts as a lift if she has her hand on the floor but not her feet….

Sexiest foxtrot?? Really, it was a decent dance, but it seems un-foxtrot like – they got hosed by the song.

Alek’s arms are still weird, but he has improved tremendously. Huge lift right in the middle of the dance. Wonder if their coach will call it. Also of note – CAI’s attitude when she was with them was very down.

Heard on All Access – ALEXA is going to be in Carlos’ freestyle. Derek and Bindi are non-stop practicing backstage.

Beautiful flashback to the DWTS of old – Meghan Trainor singing while Peta and Artem dance. Gorgeous.

This Jive from Nick is going in and out. In sync, then out of sync, clean, then messy. If he gets a perfect score for this I call foul.

Yeahhhhh…..guess I can see better on TV. Definitely better than some he’s done, but not perfect.

Come on, Bindi!! Holy crap…I don’t think I breathed during that whole dance. I never would have lasted – unbelievable.

Well, I had a lot more written but I lost it because I can’t update the site because people are refreshing too much.

I will just say that I didn’t really care for either Carlos or Alek’s freestyles, although I liked Alek’s better. Me not liking it could be in large part to being pissed I couldn’t get on the site. Witney borrowed a bit heavily from MOVE Live on Tour, with the lights and the formation at the beginning of hers. And I tended to lose Alek and Lindsay in parts of their dance.

And they change the order. Bindi just got seriously hosed. I’mma be pissed. There better be a damn good reason.

Bindi and Derek slayed that. I’m all weepy now, thanks. Derek putting that photo up there without telling Bindi. Wow.

Er…that’s it?? I mean, it was good, but it was just like a dance he did earlier in the season and totally expected. :::sigh:::

Notice in that last shot the only person with their hands not on the MBT?? Bindi and Derek.

First Safe is Alek…

Then Bindi….

And (as predicted) Carlos and Witney were eliminated.

ETA: Because I’m not sure where else to put this, here are the three dances for the 24-hour Dance Challenge.  -Court-

Nick & Sharna – Tango/Salsa
Bindi & Derek – Argentine tango/Cha-Cha
Alek & Lindsay – Tango/? (source only knew that each fusion had tango in it)

DWTS Season 21, Week TEN – Dancing by the Numbers

I wrote this week’s numbers post two different ways because we’re not sure how they’re counting votes and scores.  I was thinking they would use both the 9th and the 16th scores and votes, since there wasn’t a true elimination. But then it was suggested that since Tamar was “eliminated” and that they revealed a supposed low combined scoring person, that they would simply use the votes and scores from this past Monday (the 16th). Plus, when you look at the scores from 9th, it’s very likely was Tamar that would have been eliminated naturally, if she hadn’t withdrawn. She only had one point on Alek, after all.  But who knows? I’ll just write it both ways. It’s instructive to see what huge numbers of points does to the margins.

ETA: And Option number 1 it is! Per Orlando Sentinel and Just Jared as a back up:

One couple will be ejected as Monday’s show ends. ABC said that couple will have “the lowest combined viewer and judge votes from the previous two weeks.”

The first option is they use the points and scores from both weeks. And, as you can see, that’s a whole lotta points.

DWTS Week 10 table 1

Alek is the low man on the totem pole doing it this way, with Bindi way out in front and Nick in third place. Kinda crazy. Kinda suspicious. Are we going to hear that Carlos is going to go on tour shortly?? I don’t get the appeal. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 21, Week 10 – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Two more Mondays to go.  Will tonight be dreadful, or was last week the real low point of the series? Only time will tell.  All I can hope for is some great dancing.

T-minus 30 minutes…

Nice little opening number. I guess.

Bindi’s package made me weepy. No surprise.

NOTE: DO NOT POST ONE LINER COMMENTS AND CONTINUALLY REFRESH THE PAGE!! It’s the finale – breaking the rules might get you temporarily banned. The traffic is too high for this.

Not a Salsa fan, so it’s no shock that that’s not my favorite dance of Bindi’s. I was momentarily confused, thinking she was doing samba, then I realized that’s later. Kinda hosed doing two similar dances in one night.

CAI telling her she’s too clean?? Oy veh. Talk about ridiculous.

Alek’s package will get him a bunch of votes…and his dance was just lovely!! I loved it.

Hmmmm….I would be scared of that perfect score, Alek fans. Seriously, *Alek* gets three points higher than Bindi?? Bindi Irwin??

Carlos should stop talking. For reals.

What was the point of the rope and the direct rip off on Derek and Amy’s freestyle ending?? That…sucked….

So, that crap dance is one point better than Bindi’s “too clean” salsa?? Seriously?? And the person with the highest cumulative points of the season is currently on the bottom of the leaderboard? Yeah, that’s not at all funky. :::rolls eyes:::

Not much tango in that tango and his (Nick) feet were a mess at the beginning. It just looked…funky and not in a good way. :::sigh:::

Sad commentary on my thoughts on the show…I was sure they would give him the same score as Bindi. Don’t worry, dude – they already have you marked down for beating Bindi in the dance off.

I don’t know if anyone has done the math, but if Nick beats Bindi and Carlos beats Alek in the dance offs, Carlos will be at the top of the leader board by point and Nick and Bindi will be tied for last place.

Great dance from Jenna and Val!

Oh god. Tamar is OFF the show!! Give it a rest. I feel for her, but damn. The producers on this show are drama junkies and they’ve infected Tom.

Think about it – Tamar has virtually dominated the show for two weeks now.

Got to hand it to Alek, he is having fun with it. Loved it. Is Carlos the better dancer? Sure. Was he more entertaining than Alek? Nope. I’m sure this score will surprise no one.

CAI throwing the pity vote. Erin trying REAL HARD not to give away what they’re doing tonight and almost blowing it.

Bindi and Derek going first?? Bindi should have won that one easily with the samba rolls. There was no contest. Nick again coming up short on content compared to Bindi.

Ah, the judges do something unexpected and give the points to the right person.

Mark and Derek scare me. Every time. That kicked serious ass.

Holy crap, two great dances from Alek tonight. I also have to say that Lindsay has been schooling both Witney and Sharna in terms of choreo. I’ve enjoyed Alek’s dances more than either Nick or Carlos, this week in particular.

Judges are CRAP.

That was a pretty good Charleston, on it’s own – but compared to the Charleston that we saw in the middle of Bindi’s dance last week, it wasn’t so much.

I’m sure they didn’t plan at all for Bindi and Carlos to be tied. Not at all. :::cough:::

Was that another Disco number from Nick and Sharna?? It was a good dance…but it seemed familiar.

There ain’t no time for an elim, is there? Tom did say that either Nick/Sharna or Bindi/Derek had the lowest combined total. Do we actually believe him, or was that him workin’ some BS??

Carlos PenaVega’s DWTS Blog After Week 9

Well, this is certainly interesting. The most interesting thing is what he says about his contemporary dance, considering what we saw for Bindi’s Trio dance sounds just like it. Makes me wonder where Witney is getting her ideas. I would bet the producers vetoed it because Derek was already doing it. Interesting they didn’t get told about the 3rd dance until Thursday. Other than that, Carlos echos what  a lot of us have said about Tamar and Alexa.  From People.com – thanks to DWTS Gossip for the heads up:

My heart goes out to Tamar for having to quit the show [because she was diagnosed with blood clots in her lungs], but it is tough knowing that Lex could still be in this competition with me if Tamar had quit before the end of Monday’s show.

Witney and I have been talking about our contemporary dance since day one. Witney had this great concept that involved this giant cube and a rope. We were really excited about it but then we were told it wasn’t possible to do on the live show.

We let go of the idea of using the cube, but Wednesday Witney and I went in and really fought to use the rope and they eventually figured out a way for us do it.

I’m really glad we’re getting to do Witney’s vision, but working with the rope has been way harder than we anticipated. It worked perfectly the first time we went through the routine, but after that it was causing a lot of stress.

DWTS Season 21 Finale to be Taped at the Grove, LA

A “Hollywood Landmark” Tom said this past Monday – here I was thinking the El Capitan Theater, or Hollywood & Highland…or something like that. But…I guess the Grove would be fine. It’s all decorated for Christmas. From the Grove’s Website:

Join us for a live taping of the season finale of ABC`s Dancing with the Stars at The Grove on Tuesday, November 24, and watch your favorite performers battle it out for the Mirrorball Trophy!

Taping will take place from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

“Who Will Make it to the Finale?” DWTS Promo for Week 10

Well, they *sorta* make it sound like they will eliminate someone on Monday, but I don’t believe them. Listen to how it’s all worded. And of course they are still beating the Tamar horse. :::rolls eyes::: The thing you have to remember is that they could be referring to the finale *night* which would be Tuesday, not Monday.

DWTS Season 21, Week Nine – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, I figured you all would want to know who I think might get eliminated on Monday even if we don’t think someone is actually getting eliminated on Monday. We don’t really know for sure if it’s happening or not, but I’m leaning toward not.  I think what they’re going to do is take the points from this past Monday and the points from this coming Monday, combine it with all the votes from those two nights, and eliminate someone on the 23rd – finale night one. But I’m just guessing. 🙂

You’ve already read my rant on the disgrace that was DWTS Week 9, so I will just jump straight into the scores from this past Monday and the percentages. Read more..

The Dancing Poetry Corner – Double The Dancing Pleasure – Duets Style

I was toying with how to write this week in light of the drama in the Ballroom on Monday night. I decided to address the drama and then go on to writing as usual.

So much has been said about the situation of Tamar, how the show handled the drama, etc. Was she brave for returning to dance? Should she have returned at all? Was how the show handled the situation the proper way to do it? Was Alexa dismissed unfairly? Was Tamar unfair in not withdrawing and allowing Alexa to have the possibility of continuing? I certainly don’t know the answers to those questions.

What I do know is pneumonia and blood clots in lungs and anywhere in the body are serious business. My 94 year old Mother is recovering from pneumonia. She is doing better. My late husband developed blood clots in his legs during his cancer ordeal. He was already severely weakened from the cancer. Of course blood clots need to be caught and dealt with, if possible, to avoid them traveling, breaking off, and causing death.

My prayers and good thoughts are with Tamar for clearing up of the clots and being restored to health. That is the most important thing. The questions I mentioned may have a bit of importance, too. But, first and foremost is that Tamar gets well. The drama that happened is unfortunate but it is past. It is on to the show next Monday night. And on to my writing about this week’s Monday night’s show.

When I was thinking about a way to write about the show, I thought of the commercial of the past – Double Your Pleasure – Double Your Fun – With Doublemint, Doublemint, Doublemint Gum. The show offered us a new concept this week – Duet Dances to Showstopper Tunes and Shows. I was excited to see what the dancers would come up with for this concept. I was not disappointed.

The ending drama in the Ballroom was the elimination of Alexa and Mark. After growing into a special, spectacular dancer, Alexa’s time was over. It is so hard seeing anyone go at this point of all of the seasons. Those remaining have matured into dancers of beauty!

Next week the popular Trio Dances return. I always love those dances! I can’t wait to see who is chosen to work with the couples. And what they have come up with for their exciting dances!
