PureDWTS Season 27, Week 7: Who’s Dancing What, And When?

Country week. Um, yes. No. All it means is we’ll have yet another week of dances that don’t go with the assigned song.

Gee, who didn’t know that there were team dances next week, since IT WAS ANNOUNCED ON THE SHOW.  :::rolls eyes:::  Yes, it is a tad annoying when people come on to this site like they have some great intel we didn’t know…and it was something announced on the show. Also spare me the “I figure, based on instagram…”  unless you’re a long time poster here. Newbies doing that just make my eyes roll out of my head.

Anyway, the teams are….scroll……. (my money’s on Milo)

ETA4: Dance order update from Cheryl’s instagram…her team is last also.

Juan Pablo & Cheryl – Charleston (song: “One Shot” by Hunter Hayes)
Dancing 3rd
1-800-868-3408

Milo & Witney – foxtrot (song: “Born to Love You” performed live by LANCO)
1-800-868-3410

John & Emma – jazz (song: “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” by John Denver)
1-800-868-3407

DeMarcus & Lindsay – Viennese waltz (song: “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton)
1-800-868-3404

Evanna & Keo – rumba (song: “Every Little Thing” performed live by Carly Pearce)
1-800-868-3405

Alexis & Alan – samba (song: “Ladies in the ’90s” performed live by Lauren Alaina)
1-800-868-3401

Joe & Jenna – tango (song: “Burning Man” by Dierks Bentley feat. Brothers Osbourne)

Bobby & Sharna – V. Waltz (Song: “Can’t Help Falling in Love” performed by Chris Janson)
Dancing last
1-800-868-3402

ETA: Well, just to show you that they like to switch things up, it’s team captain Bobby Bones, ya’ll. And Team JoeDown, which I think someone mentioned in comments but I’m too lazy to go back and look. Entertainment Tonight clarified the team names for us…but I don’t think there is any other new information in there. You can click the link to see some photos though.

ETA2: Got one of the songs.  I heart Dolly. Don’t bungle this, Bones. -Court-

ETA3: All songs & dances up.  If John’s headed home come Monday, I think he’ll at least be going out on a high note with that song/dance. DeMarcus hit the jackpot with his song – everyone seems just bonkers over Chris Stapleton these days.  -Court-

Team HayNow (song: “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton)
Milo and Witney
Evanna and Keo
Bobby and Sharna
John and Emma

Team Joe Down (song: “Country Girl” by Luke Bryan) Dancing Last

PureDWTS Season 27, Week 6: Who’s Dancing What, And When?

Looks like we’re getting a number from the Tour cast, the Jabawockees are going to be on….this is from the press release. I’ll spare you the very bad puns.  We also get tWitch!

Stephen “tWitch” Boss, will choreograph and dance to a delightfully eerie number based on a music video from Freeform’s “31 Nights of Halloween,” with his spectacular dancers, including his wife and former “Dancing with the Stars” pro, Allison Holker.

Moulin Rouge???  Um. Okay.  Ordinarily a tango to that would be awesome, but Halloween and JOE??  Lord save us. 🙂

ETA: Here’s the running order….and it’s total crap. :::rolls eyes:::

Milo & Witney – Contemporary  (Song: “Toxic” by 2WEI)
Dancing 1st
1-800-868-3410

PureDWTS Season 27, Week 5 – Power Rankings

Weird things happen when Disney comes to town. Wonky scoring, a fake-out jeopardy and almost-elimination…I guess we should unpack what all went down and see what can be inferred from it. Generally, I think the judges were out to give out as many points as they could reasonably get away with last night, to everyone except Joe; this accomplishes two things: it makes the voting margins very small (due to the larger number of total points), and also makes it harder for Joe to try and make up ground and potentially oust a better dancer. Given that we’re now on the hook for (2) double elims (and one of them is on night 1 of finale week), and we didn’t eliminate anyone this week, I’m thinking next week we cut (2) couples, when we’ve got the best odds of Joe at the very least falling into the bottom two.  He doesn’t have to be the lowest on the totem pole; if they can just get him second-lowest, they can flush him out.  As for the psych-out almost-elim – my little bird told me the couples were told by producers (after the fact, of course) that the two couples in jeopardy “were only picked for shock value, it wasn’t a ‘real’ jeopardy”. Be that as it may, I think that faux jeopardy will only have the effect of boosting votes for DeMarcus and Alexis – I think the former is doing fine, vote-wise, but I think the latter probably could use whatever boost they can give her.  I think it’s interesting that they went more for “shock value”, when they could have actually utilized this jeopardy to boost someone that maybe needed help – Mary Lou comes to mind, as I have yet to find any super-passionate Mary Lou voters (except maybe Bill – I know you’re reading this, bruh) and there seems to be a lot of viewers that tend to forget about her by the end of the night. Then again, with 5 weeks down and 4 to go, they’ve gotta start lining things up for their ideal finale…

…which brings  me to my next point: given that last night was the midpoint of the season, it’s time to take inventory of who I think is headed to the finale and who is probably not.  I’ve been told by several people that Carrie Ann apparently said in her Instagram live that (5) couples go to night 1 of the finale (meaning we get five freestyles) and then there’s a double elim at the end of the night, and only the final (3) dance on night 2 of the finale. So somewhere in weeks 6, 7, and 8, we’ve gotta shed (4) more couples…meaning there’s a double elim at some point BEFORE the finale, and my guess is that it’s next week.  My gut says they don’t let Joe anywhere near the finale, if they can help it – and Bobby’s probably not far behind him. Mary Lou just seems to be fading into the background, so I doubt she’s long for this show, either; I think the last cut is probably a toss-up between John and Juan Pablo – I think John’s actually connecting better with the audience, but I get the feeling TPTB are going to do whatever they can to ensure that the better dancer (Juan Pablo) makes it over the decent-dancing everyman. So that leaves us with Milo, DeMarcus, Alexis, Evanna, and either Juan Pablo or John headed to night 1 of the finale; of those, I think the final three SHOULD be DeMarcus, Milo, and Evanna. But given the sudden showmance angle with Alexis & Alan, and the fact that they seem to think Juan Pablo is the greatest thing since sliced bread, who knows what will happen.

Things I enjoyed from last night? Loved that they found ways to work in the junior pros and contestants, and that opener was the most unique one we’ve had in awhile – loved how may Disney Easter eggs they managed to throw in the background (loved Hayley trying to jam Cinderella’s slipper on Britt’s foot in the hallway 😛 ).  As far as I’m concerned, Jason Maybaum can cohost with Berge anytime – that kid is a riot 🙂 Read more..

PureDWTS Season 27, Week 5: Who’s Dancing What, And When?

Disney Night. :::sigh:::  Who will likely do well?? Alexis, Milo, Evanna are the three who I can see really doing well with their dances and corresponding themes. DeMarcus likely will, but a charleston could be interesting. Will they continue to lowball the hell out of him?  JP…question is, can Cheryl finally make him happen??  Bobby will be interesting to watch. Can he harness all that energy into a beautiful waltz??

ETA: Updated with running order.  Right off the bat, good to see Milo closing the show – I think that’s a good sign for him. Juan Pablo going 2nd is concerning – especially since he went first last week and was a bit of a non-event. Joe likely dancing at the top of the 2nd hour makes me think he’s probably not headed home. -Court-

Alexis & Alan – Foxtrot  (Song: “Just Around the Riverbend” from Pocahontas)

DWTS Season 25, Week 5 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Disney Week – another theme that, to me, seems like it can go either way. And honestly, some of these selections seem…weird. I couldn’t find the press release, but this is what a Disney fan site has…but it seems legit.

Winners: Lindsey/Mark, Jordan/Lindsay and Drew/Emma all got good dance style with highly recognizable and/or current songs. I’m already dying to see what Mark will do with his song. I also think Cheryl will do something fun for TO.

Losers: Once again, Nikki kinda gets hosed with a song from a movie that hasn’t even been released yet.

The Jury is Out: Nick got a great song, but I’m doubtful that he can do it justice. Frankie and AT?? I’m cautiously optimistic. Sasha should have a great combo, but I’m no longer confident that Gleb can give her something memorable…and she desperately needs it. Victoria and Vanessa?? Eh.

ETA: Apparently, Val couldn’t find a way to do a Charleston so it’s been changed to Jazz.  Remember how the judges always claim that all the contestants have to be judged the same regardless? Yeah, right.

ETA2: Here’s the Dance order per George Pennachio…Go Nikki closing the show!! I would like to think it means something, it likely has to do with set pieces on a night like Disney night.

Victoria Arlen and Val – Jazz (Song: “Steamboat Willie” from Steamboat Willie)
Dancing 1st
1-800-868-3413

Vanessa Lachey and Maks – Waltz (Song: “Un Jour Mon Prince Viendra” from Snow White)
Dancing 2nd
1-800-868-3412

Lindsey Stirling and Mark – Foxtrot (Song: “When You Wish Upon A Star” from Pinocchio)
Dancing 3rd
1-800-868-3407

Nick Lachey and Peta – Quickstep (Song: “Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book)
Dancing 4th
1-800-868-3408

Drew Scott and Emma – Viennese Waltz (Song: “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie)
Dancing 5th
1-800-868-3404

Sasha Pieterse and Gleb – Rumba (Song: “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid)
Dancing 6th
1-800-868-3410

Terrell Owens and Cheryl – Quickstep (Song: “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from Lion King)
Dancing 7th
1-800-868-3411

Frankie Muniz and Whitney – Argentine Tango (Song: “Angelica” from Pirates of the Caribbean)
Dancing 8th
1-800-868-3405

Jordan Fisher and Lindsay – Foxtrot (Song: “You’re Welcome” from Moana)
Dancing 9th
1-800-868-3406

Nikki Bella and Artem – Jazz (Song: “Remember Me” from Coco)
Dancing 10th

PureDWTS Season 20, Week 5 – Disney Week Song Predictions 2.0

And Disney week is upon us once again 🙂 Since so many of us (myself included) are chomping at the bit to start speculating about what we might hear, I thought we’d resurrect the season 18 Disney week song prediction post to start the discussion!

First, a little bit of intel: allegedly, there have been some issues with song clearance, AGAIN – which is no surprise, considering there were clearance issues with some of the season 18 Disney week songs (“Be Our Guest” got approved in the nick of time; “Hakuna Matata”, however, did not) and Disney is notorious for closely guarding their copyrights.  Knowing that – I would not be at all surprised if some of the season 18 Disney week songs got reused.  Disappointing? Maybe. Avoidable? Doubt it.  Also, knowing this show’s penchant for reusing songs, I would not be surprised to see if some other Disney songs used before on other seasons of the show crop up again. So to start the predicting off, here’s a recap of the songs we saw during the last Disney week, and songs we’ve seen on the show before – then I’ll share my Disney week wishlist, and you guys can share yours 🙂 Read more..

PureDWTS Season 18 End-of-Season Awards – Which Song Choice Was the Worst?

So you’ve seen the results for the best guest judge voting – now onto the results for the crappiest song of the season!!!
worstsongchoice

Write-in votes:

“All of Me” by John Legend (Meryl’s foxtrot) – 2

“Girl” by Pharrell (Amy & Mark’s salsa) – 1

“Can’t Remember to Forget You” by Shakira feat. Rihanna (Nene’s Argentine tango) – 1

“Dare You” by Hardwell (Amy’s freestyle) – 1

“Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers (James’ rumba) – 1

Votes omitted due to failure to follow the format – 2

Courtney: The two songs I thought would garner the most votes, did – and while “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems” probably didn’t do Charlie any favors…it actually started to grow on me after a second viewing 😛 Maybe it was just the enthusiasm with which he attacked it, but he made the most of a crummy song.  The same cannot be said for “I Luh Ya Papi” – which the two couples dancing to clearly disliked as much as we did.  It drives me nuts when J. Lo does songs like these – they just make her sound downright unintelligent, and make it seem like she’s trying to remind everyone that she’s hip and has chola street cred because she talks like this.  The song is bad, no doubt – but I also don’t think Val or Maks really put their all into choreographing that duel, and thus the end result was even more lackluster.  I have to roll my eyes a bit at “I Wan’na Be Like You”, because I really only added that because I saw so many Meryl fans griping about how “terrible a samba song” it was. Boo hoo, poor Princess Meryl gets saddled with one mediocre individual song the entire season – go ask Charlie how it feels to get screwed over every other week, with “Sail”, “Mo’ Money, Mo Problems”, “Wildest Moments”, etc.  And James has more to gripe about with that gadawful “Gasolina” than Meryl dancing to a song from The Jungle Book.  As for the write-ins? Once again hard for me to say that Meryl got screwed with her foxtrot song, because even though it wasn’t really a foxtrot, it was still one of the top 10 songs in the country at the time and the shippers (and judges) ate it right up.  And anyone wanna make a bet that whoever wrote in “Dare You” was an insecure Meryl fan? 😛

Heidi: I ain’t takin’ that bet, Courtney. Same kinda idiot who haunts Amy’s instagram to scream “Meryl and Maks!!” on every single photo that Amy posts. :::rolls eyes:::  Must protect Princess Meryl at all costs!!  My nickname is an inside joke…wish I could say the same for Meryl’s. But no…the pedestal is still very, very high. Meryl overcame so many obstacles on her path to victory…horrendous song choices…mean judges picking on the stellar choreography…oh, wait. 😀  ANYway, JLo was getting  a lot of crap on the radio this morning for pretending to be “Jennie from the block” while staying in Manhattan. Apparently she gave 25k tickets to people in Brooklyn for her concert and half of them didn’t show up? With songs like “I luh Ya Papi” can anyone really blame them??  Yes, the song was bad (it got my vote)…but the choreographers did not help at ALL. Lord what a whimpy assed dance. The difference between “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and the “I Wan’na Be Like You” is also totally in the choreographer, IMO.  Neither song is a REALLY terrible song choice (but Charlie definitely got the short end of the stick in this instance), but Sharna made the best of it while Maks couldn’t get past it.  I can’t help thinking that if Derek or Mark had been handed Maks’ samba song (or JLo’s song), we would have seen some pretty creative choreography. Ah well.

Vogue: It’s so funny as when I first heard Charlie had “Sail” for a Paso Doble, I didn’t think it would work, but, it actually didn’t bother me. Give it up to Charlie and Sharna making the best of it….again as they did through out the season. Another song that just annoys me to no end anyway is “I Love Ya Pai”. I cringed through out Danica and Meryl’s Samba duel with that song. However, another song I didn’t like was “I Wanna Be Like You” for Meryl’s Samba. Awful song with a lack luster dance too. In the end, I voted for “I Wanna Be Like You” for the worst song.

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 5 – Power Rankings

Well Disney week went just as predicted, for the most part – overall, it was a pretty feel-good evening in terms of scores and critiques, (minus one or two puzzling comments here and there), and the rules seemed to be relaxed a bit; the animations dancing along the couples were not as intrusive as they were made to sound; Donny, of course, managed to make every critique all about himself instead of the dance he just saw; and Erin (who looked like she was going to the prom and her bff had done her hair & makeup and let her borrow a “super expensive” Claire’s rhinestone necklace) did not call a moratorium on obnoxious questions in honor of Disney week, and continues to bug.  The opener was probably the best we’ve seen so far this season – tons of fun and a good use of the Disney songs they were actually able to clear (more on that later).

So what did we learn tonight? That if you give the impression of not really caring about being on DWTS, then the audience won’t really care about voting for you.  Such is the case with Cody, our first “shocking” (but not really, when you think about it) elimination of the season – I think many of us had commented that he seemed rather blase about the whole experience, and just didn’t seem to be very invested or enthusiastic about learning the dances.  I know many had assumed that he was getting “tons of votes” from his teenybopper fans, but once again, I reiterate: it’s not how a small (but vocal) minority is voting; it’s how the main demographic (middle-aged women) is voting that will determine long-term success on DWTS.  I doubt Cody is too disappointed about getting sent home, though – his pride may be wounded, but I’m sure he will be right back to donning his genie pants and admiring his hair in the mirror while singing “Surfboard” to his supermodel girlfriend in no time.  😛 He got his exposure, he’s good to go – I just feel bad for Witney, who made a pretty damn good showing for her first outing as a pro and just suffered from having a partner that didn’t connect with viewers, despite her best efforts.  Thank god for the switch-up – I think her week with Drew was just a taste of what she’s capable of as a pro. She’s got a thumbs-up from me if they want to bring her back as a pro next sesaon! 😉

So now that we’re at the halfway point of the season, how are things looking, overall? Hate to say it, but I’m starting to get the William Levy-vibe from Meryl – somebody that the judges/PTB seem intent on jamming down my throat as the be-all, end-all, and someone who manages to avoid negative critiques altogether despite making technique mistakes that other couples get called out on in a heartbeat.  I’m also still not quite sure what the deal is with Charlie – the judges seem to be much harder on him than Meryl, despite him not really being inferior to her in terms of skill; can’t decide if they’re setting him up for more of a “journey” arc or what.  Danica seems like she  might still be in the mix as a potential contender, but the judges seem to run hot & cold on her; James, however, has solidified his position as this season’s “dark horse” in a BIG way – I would be nervous if my name were Meryl, Charlie, or Danica, because James is HUNGRY for that MBT. PureDWTS Season 18, Week 5 – Disney Week Song Predictions/Wish List!!!

Bye-bye, gadawful switch week – helllloooo, Disney week! This may be the one good idea TPTB have had the entire season 😀 Sounds like a lot of you are pretty pumped about it – so why not get even more excited by compiling a song wish list and seeing if we might be able to predict what everyone might be dancing to, shall we?

Vogue & I came up with a list of the most popular Disney songs we could think of and divided them up by dance style – Deep Throat indicated that all the songs were probably going to be very well-known, so while I think it would be totes appropos to see Maks dancing to “Gaston” from Beauty & the Beast, it’s probably far more likely that he & Meryl have a song like “Beauty & the Beast” or “Be Our Guest”.

If you didn’t catch it yesterday, some of the couples revealed some clues about their dances in this media post Vogue posted yesterday.  Some other clues, which I revealed on Twitter yesterday? Both Meryl & Charlie have eschewed the expected “Disney princess/prince” roles that some were hoping they’d assume this week, and are both going for “something different”.  And because Peta is about as subtle as a sledgehammer (thanks, emojis) I’ll go ahead and throw out one song spoiler: James & Peta are, indeed, doing contemporary to “Let it Go” from Frozen. Happy Hump Day, kids 😉
